@@maktwnq1031; During the late 70s and early 80s the sbc and bbc could NOT compete with ford's Cleveland. NHRA had to get rid of the Clevelands. Nobody made any aftermarket parts for the Boss 429 so Bob was forced to drive around the country buying 14 year old production ford engines while the competition was running the newest and best parts the aftermarket had. Chevy has been the go to engine since the 50s for the majority of hot rodders first with the sbc and now with the LS for the past 20 yrs..many mustangs have LS power ..for a reason , they kick ass.. And there's a lot more to drag racing than the engine as everybody knows..traction,suspension, gears ,weight all play a huge part
Lee had the complete aftermarket, with all the best parts, backing his chevy.... Bob drive around the country trying to come up with enough 15 year old ford production parts to put a engine together. NHRA Did everything they could to keep Bob and ford out of the winners circle.
Before you shoot off your mouth about what was under the hood of Shepherd's Camaro, you should get your facts straight. At that time they were using a factory marine G.M. block, crank along with G.M. aluminum heads right out of the parts catalog that Lee put a lot of time into. Both were great engine builders and drivers, I saw all those cars run from that era.
Yeah, about the only one was Bob's, besides Ricky Smith who was also FORD Powered. Back in those days in Pro Stock, had about 2 Fords and the other Cars were GM, and a few Mopars, And as everyone knows it only takes 1 to Win, and that's usually what happened, and it was Bob's Fords that Won, pretty much 95% of the time.

Two of the best legends in drag racing , Rip

Dale Ostrom thanks for the info I didn’t know that
Bob glidden was a one man show. It’s incredible what he did with 100 less cubes, and extra weight.

Ford also had some serious cylinder heads. It could be argued that the Ls GM adopted symmetrical ports of the Fords.
The LS is a Ford Windsor, symmetrical exhaust ports and look at the head bolts , it’s a superior design.Basically the Ls is a Ford Windsor
