I really enjoyed this hour. You guys enjoy deer camp and don’t worry about trying to film it. If you do, all we really need is 10-15 mins of B roll, just to provide images for context. Pictures are worth a thousand words after all
You guys did an episode on the tikka action. It would be great to see a 10 min talk about different actions like model 70, mauser 98, rem 700 and clones, savage 110, ruger m77, weatherby mark v etc... and the evolution of bolt rifle designs.
I’m very blessed to be part of a long standing deer camp. It has evolved over the years but we are now in a place where we have very close friends and family that have some fun traditions and friendly competition. It is for me, as much about the camp as the hunting.
I feel blessed to go to “deer camp” with my dad, uncles, and friends for a week every November. I look forward to it all year. Deer camp is where we eat delicious food, catch up, play cards, drink a few too many beers, hunt hard, and celebrate harder when we get our deer. I love spending that time with my dad, his brothers, my cousin, and friends, listening to stories and creating memories I’ll cherish forever. Hopefully, I can continue this tradition with my son someday!
I always try to shoot a doe as soon as season starts so I have meat in the freezer, and the pressure is off. Then I can concentrate on a buck once the rut kicks off. This year I shot a doe on opening day, and immediately an 8 point ran up to see what was going on, worked out perfectly!
In Alberta, most will refer to Mule Deer as 4x4 with brow tines; whitetail as a 5x5. Old Mules lose the brow tines as they get older, but gain more mass. Whitetail almost always have brow tines. The brow tine is G1 ( the first point on all deer) , if over an inch long, it's a point in B & C measurements.
Great episode. Wish we had some visuals on the 2-point/fork discussion. Have a feeling in my neck of the woods we call a fork, a “crab claw”. BC, Canada.
Mark my guy. I eat a Honey butter sandwich every so often. It’s better with sourdough and local honey. Very wonderful treat everyone should try. I really want to get some folks to get a deer camp going. It’d be fun to have the social aspect.
I can't speak for everyone else, but for me this kind of hunt is fun to hear about. Maybe because in central North Carolina where I am able to hunt and the way I hunt, it is not conducive to groups of people bigger than 2-3 in the same stand, looking different directions. So, most of the time it is solo, unless you are a kid with dad, and you go home with the deer that day and cut it down in the backyard and maybe a buddy comes over to help and swap stories about how this one was got, then you go help him next time with his. Most of the time it is small plots of private property with permission for one hunter, but do not bring anyone else with you.
Good afternoon, I have a 54 cal tc musket cap inline, 777 ffg power, power belt 348 copper. By volume, how much powder should I start with? It was given to me a few years ago. Tried pellets and wasn't happy with the results. Watched your show on mussel loaders, now I want to try loose. Start low and work my way up.
So cal native, 1hr from border I have 30% Mexican neighbors so local markets have Good tortillas, talking corn. Fried in lard hard shells, lettice, tomato, crema, salsa of choice n diced carne asada or ground beef is a staple. Neighbors consider a rolled corn "Taquito" a taco. Mexican food, It's all good!!
I'm only 7 minutes in and wondering if this was the retro rifle deer camp, lever action deer camp, or just another go to rifle deer camp? Let's see it unfold after burritos are superior.
Man the way some people are so against counting brows is insane. I’ve seen bucks with 4” brow tines and 9 additional points and they were like look at this beautiful 9 point. No sir that is indeed 11 points, because if we can’t call those absolute unit spikes on the forehead points then what are we really measuring.
I’m from South Texas an if you want a real good taco especially breakfast taco, you’ll need to make a trip. San Antonio down is where it’s at the rest of Mexican food dies north of there lol.
CWD Question-What do you do with the meat if it tests positive for CWD? This could be a good video if you know any biologists or people who know about CWD and its effects on meat.
That’s a real Sophie’s choice there, fellas. I live in TX and I’ve gotta go with tacos. Genetic predisposition not withstanding. Solid reference, Mark!
Had mate on trap line in mountains New Zealand he was seeing two red stag regular as clockwork one day one was there acting all weird when to check it out the second one had got tangled in suppljack and was dead. And the other one got angry with him when he go to close. So maybe not to indifferent to one another.
Different strokes.its very hard to even get a license for deer in NM.we cannot shoot does.deer season during the rut 4 days .i wouldrather shoota young buck.much better meat.same for elk I dont put in for a bull I have shot my trophy bull.a 2yr old cow ís full grown and ohhĥ so tender.i often take 1 and a half days to pack.i leave a minimum behind .kidneys liver heart pancrease all bones hide.all i may never get another cow license.2yr old cow elk treated right is the best trophy ever.mule deer is best with salt and pepper as jerky with cold beer.nuff said

1200 words with inflation, 915 words after tax.

Need a video next year. You guys are an asset to Vortex!
Western Pa hunter here we don’t all take them to the processor, except for the trail bologna and hot sticks. 😊
Crunchy taco, eaten over a tortilla, whatever falls out of the taco onto the tortilla is made into a burrito. Win, win.
That was the longest ten minutes of my life! 😂
great episode, loved it
Hey did you guys every talk about what your carry guns are?
"And we made beef" 😂😂😂

Super enjoyed this vid. You guys are so genuine. Whio doesnt love deer camp yarns….
Hand rolled burritos…WAAAY better than foot rolled burritos 🤣

Agree, it seems strange to call a 6x6 typical W.T. a 12 point
Great way to start the morning after finding out that all Tikka’s will be threaded going forward.
Back to back days of viewer #2 I'm slipping 😂
Definitely enjoyed the last years deer camp video.
I’m glad this is something we can all tacobout.
Can we get a podcast on carbon rings and a cartridge talk on the 7.5 Swiss?
I second this
We have a taco bar at deer camp. It is easy to keep warm, has a nice wide variety of components and feeds the crowd when ever they are hungry.
Great video deer camps are awesome.
That was one great deer camp gentlemen. I laughed a lung up to the Tom Cruise line. Don't film it. Raffle a spot in camp for us regular listeners.
More please 🙏

And lots of beer 🍺

It's a good 10 minute talk, but you know what would make it a great 10 minute talk the 340 weatherby magnum.
Enjoyed the stories! You guys missed the opportunity to talk about what guns everyone chose to bring to camp. Thanks for the content
Anybody have the link for last years deer camp? Is it the video with the lady at Vortex who takes her first deer?
We need a 7 SAW cartridge talk!
Would love to see Hunt Camp Videos again. Just GoPros would be great, don't need to be fancy or big production.

I was hoping this was the throw back deer camp from the pump action rifle episode
Retro deer camp next year? I’m going to be doing that over in my neck of the woods, filming it too! Bring it on, eBay.
_Super Nachos._
With *no salt* chips.
Stay classy my friends.
The way Mark say deer camp makes me think he’ll start stories with “this one time, at deer camp”.
Deer antler terms I grew up with is 2 points is a spiker, 4 is a y buck, and the rest is just the number of overall points.
Same way here in Pennsylvania
@currituck that's where I'm at
I'm only 7 minutes in and wondering if this was the retro rifle deer camp, lever action deer camp, or just another go to rifle deer camp? Let's see it unfold after burritos are superior.
How have you not mentioned the 7 backcountry yet
when are you guys going to talk about the 7.5 FK BRNO?????
Mark I highly recommend useing a cheese cutter to get even layer of butter 😅😊
What are your thoughts on ketsup on hotdogs 🌭 or any tubed meats? It's a no for me.
Burritos for breakfast, tacos for lunch and dinner.
Man the way some people are so against counting brows is insane. I’ve seen bucks with 4” brow tines and 9 additional points and they were like look at this beautiful 9 point. Taco vs Burrito: it’s like adult diapers…it depends
They should do a bow hunt turkey drive. And record that for fun.
in Texas, tacos > burritos...excellent discussion...
CWD Question-What do you do with the meat if it tests positive for CWD? This could be a good video if you know any biologists or people who know about CWD and its effects on meat.
Why did you leave breakfast tacos out of the conversation? 😂
Tacos first. Naked burritos are good too
That’s a real Sophie’s choice there, fellas. I live in TX and I’ve gotta go with tacos. Genetic predisposition not withstanding.
Solid reference, Mark!
This sounds like an old Saturday night skit church lady. She asked Anne Heche if she preferred tacos or burritos. Slightly different context.
Literally my first thought!
Suppressors are illegal in Canada. Very unfortunate.

I need an official comment from the creators of the 6.5BC on federal calling the 7mm backcountry the 7BC for short.
Depends if I am driving or not. Driving=burrito Dining in=tacos
Easter’s coming Mark! Am I getting swag or are ya committing to a can?
I love tacos, but a burrito is far superior.
Hahah. Everyone’s a meat hunter till they get a big boy!
Tacos
Tacos,,soft shells and lots of lettuce
2:41 What’s coming out of your speedo?
A burrito is a large taco
Burrito 🌯
Burritos all day, just because tacos are now a food trend. Jim nailed it with saying “white people tacos” haha
The correct answer is:
Breakfast Burrito
ruclips.net/video/prPjpwsGiws/видео.html
Tacos are easy, burritos are better. I am an equal opportunity employer.
Doner kebab over burritos over tacos.
Strat hunting with a can n you’ll never go back. Deer often can’t detect direction of shot
No such thing as too much butter :)
Burritos always rule Jim is right.
Tacos at the dinner table.burritos on the go.tacos are sloppy
When i make white people tacos at home (generally with deer meat) i fold at least one end burrito style cuz nobody likes a mess.
Different strokes.its very hard to even get a license for deer in NM.we cannot shoot does.deer season during the rut 4 days .i wouldrather shoota young buck.much better meat.same for elk
I dont put in for a bull

( I'm not one to shoot a cyote just to shoot a cyote) what the heck happened to you ryan you used to be cool.
Burgers vs dogs are not the same comparison as burrito vs taco.. burritos and tacos are way closer than burgers and dogs. Not a big fannof dogs.
In a strange bit of irony, I feel you should be deported if you don’t like tacos.
