You can pan on the mouse by holding down the scroll wheel then holding down the shift key :)

Well I'm from the USA, and I grew up using imperial measurements; so I'll have to choose the "barbarian" selection, stone chisels, and clubs to make my creations. Excellent tutorial btw. Love the English humor too.
Great set of videos even from this "barbarian." :) Kidding. I do enjoy these. They have been very helpful in my new journey with SketchUp.
whilst drawing,moving, scaling, any action that requires locking to the axes, arrow keys on the keyboard "force" the axis : up = vertical, left = red etc... Not sure about the key/axis association but just mash'em till you find'em. Holding shift when axis is highlighted locks that "travel direction". Also when wishing for sketchup to assign ANY edge for reference, "scrub" over said edge with the mouse : skp will understand and set this as pink reference. Finally, set axes works within a group, without interfering with global model axes. Datum cube is a great tip, never thought of that, thanks!

you can click to start a shape (don't have to hold down the mouse) then type your measurements and hit enter.
Other thing you can single click and object, double click, and triple click an object. They gradually select more of the object you are on. Have a play with.
For the shortcut on a Macbook pro press the O key to orbit L for line Q for the protractor P to push and pull E to eraser R for rectangle Z to magnifi H to pan T for tape measure A for the ark tool C for circle and B to Paint. There could be more but thats all i could think of the top of my head.
It's unlikely you'll go back a year and read my comments, but your simple mention of line colour was, "I never knew that." With good intentions, many others often know something so well that they forget what it's like not to know it and leave out tiny details like this. Thank you.
For the orbit shortcut on a Mac (Trackpad or the Apple Magic Mouse): press and hold control + command and then use the "left" mouse button.

I absolutely hate that here in the USA we use the "barbarian" system of measurement. I am constantly transforming to metric.
There are two types of countries in the world. Those who use the metric system and those who have been to the moon.
The US engineers at NASA who designed and built the spacecraft that took us to moon used the metric system.
Shift while pressing the mouse wheel and ctrl while pressing the mouse wheel you can pan and orbit
I am not a barbarian! Some how I feel disappointed! Seriously great to see the tool functionality explained in plain English. This is going to be a great series.
For those that are not familiar there are a lot of hotkeys in the web version. If you use the search tool and type something in it will show you the hotkey. You can even add or customize the hotkeys, which is what I did. Vary handy.
Thanks for using the Web version. I am a Linux user and I report that it works very well so far. Sketchup is somewhat hit or miss when working under WINE.
To pan hold down your middle mouse button and press and hold shift at the same time. Now when you move your mouse from side to side and back to front etc you pan around the model.

Great Series. Thanks, Question, how do I resolve sketching/working in metric (If I don't want to be a barbarian) but American lumber is dimensioned in inches?
I think there are a bunch of keyboard shortcuts for Sketchup? Can’t remember what any of them are but there’s definitely one for pan. I think if you put ‘Sketchup keyboard shortcuts’ into Pinterest, lots of folks have made nice little pins for all of them. Unless they don’t work on the web version maybe? Awesome series. I’m trying to build a set of cabinets/bookshelves in my dining room as a total woodwork rookie and it’s impossible to conceptualise things with pen and paper.
I'm surprised you don't use the tape measure tool more. I find the dashed lines it creates invaluable to define my shapes before I draw them.
note. you can enter dimensions by just typing it in. its a click type click to enter process. as for pan by mouse, its press the centre wheel and hold shift.
Hi Matt, great video's, can you use plugin's from example from Sketchucation and also can you download 3D model from the 3D warehouse on the Web Version which would be cool or are I asking for to much here !!! Stay Safe Mate !!!.

If I'm not mistaking,you don't have to hold down the mouse button while extruding to type in the mesurement. If you drag and release and then type the mesurement, it will still apply the measurement. Excuse my English if I typed something wrong.

Don't know about the web version, but in SketchUp Make 2017 you just have to use the keyboard shortcuts. Press O for orbit and hold Shift to pan...

This is a very, very bad sketchup turorial... He missed out on very important features that make using this software actually not annoying. Also some super important shortcuts and tool aspects. For example, the tape measurer just shows that he does not know the software, you just have to press ctrl/cmd to have it actually mesure something instead of placing a guide
Maybe he doesn’t “mesure” like you
