Really good review with great detail on the device and registering the unit. I am buying one very soon, I've had three occasions in the past when I have needed one due to no phone reception. It sucks waiting hours for a rescue helicopter when your mates are in serious pain from a trail bike accident
Great video mark. I hadn't even thought about a device like this, so a timely video for me to watch. I love that it is Australian made, I think buying locally is always a great idea, so thanks for identifying this product. Love your work!
Great overview - I advocated constantly for our remote staff to carry these. Unfortunately the company would not look past the bottom line. Some people think a Satellite Phone is the be all and end all for remote safety, but don't factor in things like rolled vehicle and broken aerials. When I was field based I would have loved one of these as a last resort. I am considering adding one to my motorcycle pack for when I am out of serviceable area(which is often).
Pity the company is so short sighted. I think in your part of the country something like this would be a great thing to have. I'm thinking that you might be able to claim the purchase cost as a tax deduction if you work in remote areas, worth asking.
Great price Mark... mine cost me.near.on $450 in Australia a couple of years ago...best bit of gear and great to see you getting one. Esp in places like AU and NZ where it can be either über remote or rugged these literally are life savers. Smart buy... great video as always. Phil N72H
Actually it was your recent video on the ResQLink that reminded me to get off my butt and get a PLB. I was lucky to find these on special at the time so had no excuse to delay. Thanks guys.
Thanks Les. I must admit it is a strange thing to buy something with the hope of never actually switching it on! Best wishes for the silly season mate. Cheers, Mark.
I had/have an older version of this model but unfortunately, its battery has expired. When I enquired with GME about replacing its battery, I discovered that I would save about $10 (nett, including postage) over buying a new unit (at market-price, not RRP); plus incur risks associated with shipping back and forth, etc. So very disappointed. That was my experience but, who knows, things may have changed. If you are attracted by the ability to replace the battery... call GME and verify the nett costs to you.
Grave and Imminent Danger. Does that mean you can have 12 pints of Lager at the Belgium Beer House and a Salmonella Kebab then set off your PLB when you mysteriously find yourself walking through Toowong Cemetery at midnight Saturday night ?
Whilst the Toowong Cemetery does have graves (and a shirt load of them), I'm not sure about the imminent danger. If you spend the kebab money on another pint or two of beer you would not find yourself in such a situation. I hope this helps ;-)
Great Review, and will save lives. But.............. $279 to get the battery replaced after 7 years. $289 to buy a brand new unit with a 7 year warranty. Battery replacement only has limited warranty. This is just wasteful, and completely unreasonable. Surely it's not that hard to make a DIY removable battery. Sat phones are becoming cheaper, waterproof, and have the ability to locate. I will have to think hard if am to buy another for prospecting this season.
+ottoswinebar I know what you mean. It's like printer ink cartridges, costs more than a new printer and ink! Still for around $41 per year this device still stacks up for me.
+AussieMark909 Nice RUclips channel BTW, found it when I was searching today for a replacement PLB. I spend weeks in Outback WA, so a lot of helpful info. Good Work
Yeah seems stupid, but for the cost just buy a new one, you probably spend more money on non essentials per year than this device, but this device has the potential to save your life.
this was a bloody brilliant review! well done. answered loads of questions
Thanks very much, glad it was useful to you. Safe travels.

Well done Mark, it's great to see a review on these types of these units.
Thanks mate, just a little bit of insurance I hope never to need. Really amazing bit of technology when you stop to think about it.

You are far too kind good Sir. Thanks for the support mate :)
Thanks for taking the time to upload this, answered all my questions, well done. Will buy one these units this week.
great review mate, also love the cockies screaming near end
Cheers Rod. It's a bit of a parrot paradise here so they often turn up in the background on my videos. Thanks for watching.
Excellent informational video , Mark! Thanks!
Glad you liked it Bill. Thanks :)

AussieMark909 Yep, I definitely could have claimed that when I was field based.

Superb addition to the kit Mark.
Best Wishes....Les.

Great video and advice, Mark. Cheers, b.
Thanks Biggles, good to hear from you mate.
Thanks Mark, they are a good idea, it's on my to get list.
They really are amazing, so much capability in such a small unit. Cheers mate, I appreciate your support.
Def a great piece of kit to have! I've been thinking of getting something like this for awhile. I was looking a the "Spot" unit.
I think the SPOT is more of a tracker/messenger and does not use the same satellites as this system which is a dedicated emergency system.
Thank you so much for this great review. I have been advised to get a PLB and this one definitely seems like the go. Thanks heaps :-)
you know you're tired when you first read the title as "personal bacon launcher" ..bed time...
Sounds like a great product idea to me. Sweet dreams :)
