I love this song! As a wannabe bass singer, It's a great vocal exercise. However, I'm under no illusions that I'm within a million miles of Richard Sterban's masterful performance. He's in a class all by himself. You're either born with that kind of voice or you're not. It's great that he's used his talent in a positive way, singing gospel and values-affirming country music. The Oak Ridge Boys have enjoyed a long career entertaining millions of people worldwide. I'll always be a fan!
Whenever I see these guys, it looks like 3 guys from the 80s found an old timey cowboy frozen in ice and thawed him out and decided to start a band. That sounds like a pretty awesome movie actually.
I always think he looks like one of those outdoorsy dudes that posts on YT that lives completely off the grid and builds shelters just using the materials in the surrounding forrest.
Richard Stuben can still hit these low notes now! No Oakridge Boys concert if complete without this favorite song...And he still gets the biggest cheer from the audience.
We still have Adam's 45 record of this. Our son, Adam, was 2 years of age when it was released. My brother, Eddie, recorded it on a cassette, over & over & over again, front & back! Adam would play the tape & sing along with it every single time, front & back. I would love to hear that little boy sing Elvira one more time. Adam, Resting in Paradise. 🕊🤍🕊August 06, 1978~May 12, 1996.
Just saw the boys live tonight Sun November 24, 2013 @ the Star Plaza Theater in Merrillville Indiana, their 40th anniversary tour and the boys had the whole place on their feet!! They did two Hours straight!! We have seen them there every year since 1991 when I was a teenager. Let me tell you they still got it!! Plus as usual, Richard had all the women excited with that Bass which sounded better than ever. God Bless them and to many more years of performing!!
Aron Maxson He also reminds me of John Ritter's best friend from Three's Company. I think his name was Larry or something like that. And strangely enough, the guy I bought my first car from looked a lot like him
I grew up on music like this. Being black and growing up in inner city West Baltimore my mom and grandma were some ol country gals. They always listened to country and gospel. Hee-Haw was also on heavy rotation in our home.
God bless you guys thanks still going strong after all these years later appreciate you and the memories you guys rock thanks job well done you should be amazed and proud love you guys ! Joe
My uncle and his college roommate watched this video back when it first premiered and he said they were both surprised it was the “shortest and only clean-cut guy” who is the bass.
Lyrics Elvira, Elvira My heart's on fire for Elvira Eyes that look like heaven, lips like sherry wine That girl can sure enough make my little light shine I get a funny feelin', up and down my spine 'Cause I know that my Elvira's mine So I'm singin', Elvira, Elvira My heart's on fire, for Elvira Giddy up, oom poppa, omm poppa, mow mow Giddy up, oom poppa, omm poppa, mow mow, heigh-ho Silver, away Tonight I'm gonna meet her, at the Hungry House Cafe And I'm gonna give her all the love I can, yes I am She's gonna jump and holler, 'cause I've saved up my last two dollars We're gonna search and find that preacher man Now I'm a singin' Elvira, Elvira My heart's on fire for Elvira Giddy up, oom poppa, omm poppa, mow mow Giddy up, oom poppa, omm poppa, mow mow, heigh-ho Silver, away Elvira, Elvira My heart's on fire for Elvira Giddy up, oom poppa, omm poppa, mow mow Giddy up, oom poppa, omm poppa, mow mow, heigh-ho Silver, away Elvira, Elvira My heart's on fire for Elvira Giddy up, oom poppa, omm poppa, mow mow Giddy up, oom poppa, omm poppa, mow mow, heigh-ho Silver, away Elvira, Elvira My heart's on fire for Elvira
This brings back memories living in Brooklyn NY as a little kid 1 country Station all the way at the end of dial in the 88.3 or something but my father loved country
So there I was, wondering which of these fellas was going to have the deep bass voice...video's playin....I'm jammin....mentally wondering which of the middle fellas has that voice....I fell out of my chair when it turned out to be the city slicker on the right. I haven't been this surprised since Rick Astley came out.
You'd think it would be William Lee Golden (the tall guy with the big beard) but it's a surprise when it's the shorter, clean-cut guy (Richard Sterban)!
Couldn't agree with you more! I went through "all of them" on here now, looking for a good version to have in my playlist. And this is by far the best one, too bad the sound quality is only so so. You can hear that his mic has been turned way up and you hear him much better than in any other version!
Part of that is because they actually had his microphone turned up properly in the mix. Due to the low frequencies of bass, you need to turn the volume up to actually hear it - that's part of the reason bass takes so much power in an amplifier as opposed to the mid-range and high-frequencies. Good engineers understand this and will make that adjustment. Most audio engineers for TV shows try to keep the mix neutral or "in the middle". When you do that, nuances like Richard's great voice just get lost in the mix. This time the audio mixing engineer got it right turning his mic up in the mix a little louder than the others. Thus it's not overpowering the others, but you can hear it better.
I like very few country songs, and I just love this particular version of "Elvira." I love the way it's put together, and I especially love it, because you can tell that everyone on that stage, especially Joe and Richard, have their heart and soul in it. They love what they're doing, and have fun doing it!
Okay, the bass singer is fantastic and I remember listening to this in the 80's and I thought that was amazing. But as far as deep bass voices, go look up J.D Sumner, his group was the back up singers for Elvis Presley. At one time, he was in the Guinness book of records for deepest bass voice and this man from the Oak Ridge Boys studied up under him.
richard sterban sang backup for Elvis presley before joining the ORB's. i also didn't know they were mostly a gospel group until this song which as a kid i always thought was about Elvira--the horror film person, or a horse 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
i am a bartender in winnipeg casino and i saw them live last night at the casino.. richard's voice is like a deep bass that even the ground in the casino vibrates while his doin his thing.. i hate country music but i like this one.. its addicting..
Just really talented and skilled men going strong after these years later it's good seeing everyone including all the vocalists having a good time at the concert job well done you should be amazed and proud love you guys appreciate you guys ! Joe
My son sings base in barbershop quartet in high school and I told him to watch these guys on you tube. I always loved them growing up and its nice to see the new generation appreciating their unique sound.
I just love anything bass, no matter how you use the word, bass singer, bass player, bass fishing,no surprise to my friends that I am married to a bass player who likes to go bass fishing, relevant to this video: Richard is indeed hot & my favorite bass singer! to me, he makes this song, can't imagine it without him
And the guy next to him looks like he’s going to trap and kill his dinner after the show. Interesting band to say the least, but one of my favorite songs from my childhood
Lol that's Richard Sterban, and in case you were interested, his voice is always that deep. Even when he talks. He can pull his voice to a scarily deep level.
Richard Sterban's suits from 1981 still look fantastic in 2022. He always had impeccable fashion sense. Still does.
Not to mention, he's still good-looking.
Yes
I love the oak brothers...is there anybody out there listening 🎶 🙌 😌. ..😊😅😮😮😢🎉🎉❤❤
No
I love listening to the Oak Ridge Boys and I'm 40 , I was born in 1984
I always loved them, except for the few years that William Lee Golden wasn't with them. That ticked me off!😂
Rest In Peace Joe. 😢 thank you for the music of my childhood. This song is never far from my heart.
This song was a cultural phenomenon back in the day. It made a lot of people smile. Nothing wrong with that!
DANG RIGHT! We need MORE fun loving stuff today👍🏻
I just worked a private party here in okc & saw them live. It was awesome ❗😜😜
still making me smile
That Bass voice....absolutely incredible. Was onr of my favs in the 80's
It"s uncanny!
He sounds the same 40 years later.
Richard Sterbin posing like Roger Moore's James Bond as he hits those low notes is everything I needed.
Facts
That's kind of weird though
Every time I went to see them & Richard would hit those low notes, all the girls in the audience were swooning.❤😂
Listened to this through headphones yet I am certain that guy's voice managed to vibrate my whole house
Lol
Do you still listen to it?
LOL
I saw them in concert and the entire building shook. He’s AMAZING.
Most unorganized, un-alike looking group of extremely talented artist!
Yeaaahhhh...
True
Lol
Bass dude’s incredible and I think I’m jealous. 🤣
What are you doing here? Of all places i find you here??
He was Elvis’ bass man too

2021 - Who thinks this is Still a great song.
Whenever I see these guys, it looks like 3 guys from the 80s found an old timey cowboy frozen in ice and thawed him out and decided to start a band. That sounds like a pretty awesome movie actually.
This was country in the early 80s. They had that whole Urban Cowboy, City-sophisticated look
Yes. I would watch it
Who is the old timey cowboy
So funny but I agree with you!😊
I always think he looks like one of those outdoorsy dudes that posts on YT that lives completely off the grid and builds shelters just using the materials in the surrounding forrest.
That bass made the song let alone Richard was gorgeous 😍😍😍
When Richard goes "Yeaaaaaah" sounds like a foghorn, haha. Epic.
Man, I use to go crazy as kid for this band. They have a special place in my heart to this day.
Richard Stuben can still hit these low notes now! No Oakridge Boys concert if complete without this favorite song...And he still gets the biggest cheer from the audience.
This song is still badass 41 years later. I was a kid when it came out.

They had the whole place on their feet, why? Did they set off the fire alarm......
Talented and with good material.
Steve from Married with Children sure has a deep singing voice
Oh man, you're right. Thanks for the giggle!
Aron Maxson He also reminds me of John Ritter's best friend from Three's Company. I think his name was Larry or something like that. And strangely enough, the guy I bought my first car from looked a lot like him
Marcy must have given him some nice blow...inflated his balls.
Which one's Steve?
I said the same thing lol.
I grew up on music like this. Being black and growing up in inner city West Baltimore my mom and grandma were some ol country gals. They always listened to country and gospel. Hee-Haw was also on heavy rotation in our home.
The aesthetic voice of Oom papa om pa pa was fantastic ❤
Mike & Molly brought me here.....very grateful!
This is one of my Favorite country songs!, I'm An Old Country. Music Junkie!, a 50 year old BlackMan! from Dallas,
I remember when this came out, it was the fall of 81, and I was seven. Man I loved this song. “Elvira!” My mom got so tired of me singing this song!
God bless you guys thanks still going strong after all these years later appreciate you and the memories you guys rock thanks job well done you should be amazed and proud love you guys ! Joe
Love how they get into the music. They only grow better with age
2024 and love this song.
My uncle and his college roommate watched this video back when it first premiered and he said they were both surprised it was the “shortest and only clean-cut guy” who is the bass.

BEAURIFUL COUNTRY SONG ! I LOVE THE TUNE.
My grandparents introduced me to this song. One of my favorites!
So there I was, wondering which of these fellas was going to have the deep bass voice...video's playin....I'm jammin....mentally wondering which of the middle fellas has that voice....I fell out of my chair when it turned out to be the city slicker on the right. Ktadema what you call him a city slicker lmao....
Lmao! That's mean!
bizotically_yours83 right?! I wouldn’t get Richard angry, pretty sure he can sing the balls off a charging rhino at 50 yards lol
I’m remember how popular this song was in the early 80s!
The Oaks are the best, love Joe's tenor voice, all great!!
From l to r: Jon Oates, Kenny Loggins, Grizzly Adams and Carbone from Goodfellas.
BRILLIANT!
"Carbone", would also make a good Dracula.
For some reason I was falling for this...
He looks more like Doug Henning...
@@ThiefInLaw his eyebrows look like bats
1982, Vero Beach Florida, my student days. ans Eagle's Hotel California. A must part of the day ❤❤❤❤
Ever since seeing that episode of family guy ( I think it was family guy.) This song never seems to leave my head.
That was awesome! Brings back so many memories!!!!
Even if you hate country music, you can't help but like this song.
Reminds me of my Mom and Dad listening to this song when I was just a little one!
Love you both Mom and Dad!
I think this is one of the best versions in terms of Richard's bass.
Couldn't agree with you more! I went through "all of them" on here now, looking for a good version to have in my playlist. And this is by far the best one, too bad the sound quality is only so so. exactly my comment. it was steller in this one.
I was going to say the same thing! It's good they've turned his mic up a bit more than the other backing vocals, sounds brilliant

My Grandma would always play this song when I was little
I can't help laughing every time I hear Richard Sterban sing that C2. Such resonance!
richard sterban sang backup for Elvis presley before joining the ORB's. i also didn't know they were mostly a gospel group until this song which as a kid i always thought was about Elvira--the horror film person, or a horse 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Founding old things is like finding New self ❤❤
richard stuben sounds like my 2009 honda crf 450 fourstroke dirtbike, what a awsome voice.
love the oak ridge boys greatest singing group them and Statler brothers
I actually thought the cowboy was the bass man but when it was the guy on the end it gave me a shock (≧∇≦)
“The cowboy” William Lee Golden can do some deep notes I think he can do an E.1
i wish i could go back to the 80's and early 90's again
i wish i could meet the bass singer
i am a bartender in winnipeg casino and i saw them live last night at the casino.. richard's voice is like a deep bass that even the ground in the casino vibrates while his doin his thing.. i hate country music but i like this one.. its addicting..
Bass guy has the largest set of balls in the history of the universe, and it’s glorious.
His balls get larger everytime this video plays
Yes, just look at the way he's standing
I grew up listening to acts such as The Oak Ridge Boys. Nostalgic!!
Just really talented and skilled men going strong after these years later it's good seeing everyone including all the vocalists having a good time at the concert job well done you should be amazed and proud love you guys appreciate you guys ! Joe

Heard this on the radio today and I had to see them perform it. Great video!
RIP Aunt Elsie
This song will always be "our song".
I'll keep singing it & thinking of you.
Love you
love this song~~~
thanks for sharing~~~
The bass singer learned the ropes from J.D. Sumner when he was in the Stamps. They were Elvis' vocal group on his seventies tours and records.
I was age 6 watching sesame street , but I herd this Song on the Radio....... I loved it......
Takes me back to my childhood...
best live performance love it when they have richards mic turned up where you can actually here him
I just love anything bass, no matter how you use the word, bass singer, bass player, bass fishing,no surprise to my friends that I am married to a bass player who likes to go bass fishing, relevant to this video: Richard is indeed hot & my favorite bass singer! to me, he makes this song, can't imagine it without him
That bass is awsome!!

How can you not watch this and feel good :)
I love Richard's voice.

also, the bass singer is amazing, but he looks like he's gonna do my taxes when he gets off stage
Lol
And the guy next to him looks like he’s going to trap and kill his dinner after the show. Interesting band to say the least, but one of my favorite songs from my childhood
Not in those pants
Or he’s gonna represent you in your car accident claim
Lol that's Richard Sterban, and in case you were interested, his voice is always that deep. Even when he talks. He can pull his voice to a scarily deep level.
