- Boris Giltburg performs Rachmaninov Concerto no.3 in D minor op.30 at the Arthur Rubinstein Piano Master Competition (Tel Aviv). Since its inception in 1974, the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition is one of the foremost Piano Competitions in the world. Arthur Rubinstein, who gave his blessing to the competition, headed the jury of the first two competitions (1974 & 1977).
The competition, is held every three years in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Considering the pressures of competition, his performance, like Olga Kerns displays the courage and conviction of Mr Giltburg. At NO TIME did this seem like a competition performance. It was a RACHMANINOFF performance, and a great one at that, right up there with the fabulous Bronfman and a few others. As I mentioned earlier, both pianist and orchestra, totally in service to the composer. Brilliant.
This was 4 or 5 years ago, and I've still not heard of this pianist until tonight. Shame how the market is saturated by the same old names.

I think we can safely say that today's level of piano performance has risen well above the time of Horowitz and Rubenstein, etc. So many pianists today can play so flawlessly.
A most beautiful recording, both audio and video. Bravo.
A most articulate performance by Mr Giltberg, personified by the lovely "waltz" in the 2nd movement. The contributions of this magnificent orchestra can not be overstated.
Mr Giltberg's articulation is in the busier passages is a joy to hear, no pedal blur. His playing is not want for expressiveness, always in service to the composer.
There is an obvious affection between this orchestra and pianist, and it is evident throughout.
An absolutely stunning and, for once, original performance of this popular masterpiece.
Awesome! Giltburg is in a class by himself, reminding of the great pianists of the past. This is one of my favourite recordings of this onderf concerto. The others are Rachmaninov himself, Yefim Bronfman and Alexis Weissenberg. Boris Giltburg is in very good company ;)
What an outstanding artist! A rare musicality, wonderful phrasing. This performance reminds of the great pianists of the past. He has everything, elegance, phenomenal technique, heart and soul!
This is an excellent performance. It seems like a lot of the time the piano is too aggressive, or lacking in expression, but not in this performance. Gilburg seems to really understand how to play this, and the tempo is just right too, great job everyone.

This is very fine playing withsome very original and thought-provoking ideas presented. This artist should be heard from much more. Bravo. Having worked for many years on this concerto, I can attest to it's difficulty both musically and technically

The young turks who play this (Rudy, Lugansky, Giltberg, Andsnes, Trifonov, et. al) all play splendidly and note perfect, so pristine technically you'd swear the concerto was washed by Mr. Clean himself, yet somehow they all lack the excitement of a Horowitz/Coates performance. Could it be the concerto is just so familiar today and we've heard it so many times we've lost the ability to be knocked out of our seats by it?

Whenever I listen to this work, I sometimes feel that Rach just didn't quite finish composing it. Some of the voicing in the piano part and some woodwind here and there I am sure he meant to go back and finish it but just didn't. It's the same with hs 2nd concerto - the coda just doesn't work seamlessly as it should. Very segmented composition.
Great performance, really great! Enoyed it all, although sometimes the piano is too high in the mix.

Technically flawless,and in fact, a great rendition....Kudos Mr.Giltburg... Lovely orchestra too... What's the orchestra called?One of the best video coverages too, focusing on the soloists at each interludes instead of only the pianist! However the one thing is that, and it is just my opinion, Mr.Giltburg takes too much time for each passage..Not the tempo, but the occasional slowing down...The one thing I found otherwise in interpretation of "The Greats", so to speak...
i think theyve overdone the greenery... but thats not his fault... i like his clarity of playing.

Et maintenent le voilà laureat 1 er prix du concours reine hélisabeth et ce qu' il la surtout fait gagner c' est ce concerto de Rachmaninoff et franchement même si deux ans sépare ce concert et le concours je trouve que sont interprétation du concerto a encore murit.
