    I am currently studying Japanese, and I thought I would share some of the beginner things I have learned :)
    Sentence structure:
    (A) wa (B) desu(ka) where A is the noun (i.e. Sushi, Toire, Neko) and B is the adjective/adverb (i.e. oishii, kawaii, doko, etc.). Ka is added to the end of desu to make the statement a question. (i.e. "Sushi wa oishii desu" - "Sushi is delicious", "Neko wa kawaii desu" - "The cat is cute". and "Toire wa doko desuka?" - "Where is the bathroom?")
    Useful Vocabulary:
    Itadakimasu - polite word said before eating. Translates to "I will start eating" or "I will receive"
    Gochisosama - said after finishing your meal. Translates to "I really enjoyed the meal" or "thank you for the meal"
    Kanpai - A toast, or "Cheers"
    Omiyage - a small gift, usually a snack item from your home country or a country you have just visited.
    Arigato Gozaimasu - "Thank you". The "gozaimasu" is very important. It makes the statement formal, or polite. To say just "Arigato" is informal and can be viewed as rude.
    Do itashimashite - "You're welcome"
    Ojamashimasu - Said when entering someone's home. Literally means "Excuse me for disturbing you". It is very polite, and will make a very good impression on whomever you are visiting.
    Honto ni - Used to add emphasis, such as "Honto ni arigato gozaimasu!" - "Thank you very much!" or "Honto ni sumimasen!" - "I am very sorry!"
    Daijobu desu ka? - "Are you ok?" or "Is it ok?"
    Anyway, just wanted to share :) It also helps me to remember when I write things out! If I spelled anything wrong, or did not use it correctly, please let me know! :)

    We have returned from a 3 week stay in Japan. It was a fantastic experience, I love Japan and greatly miss the japanese people. I had watched most of your videos before leaving and I wish to thank you for your efforts ,I appreciated your advice. The few words I learned were very helpful in getting around. Every one was so very helpful to us, I truly miss them, you have a wonderful culture and you should be very proud. We drove a car north of Tokyo for 1 week then stayed in Tokyo, and then took the Shinkansen (JR Pass) to Hiroshima. Hiroshima was a very emotional part of our journey as we watched groups of school children pass in front of the Children's Memorial,it was a heartwarming and touching moment. The entire journey was a refreshing positive experience that we will cherish forever. We hope to go back.

    Yuka, this video is very helpful. I use a lot of these words when I travel to Osaka recently.
    We had trouble as to how to buy the ticket from the machine, and we ask some strangers to help us. Its actually very easy to use, but for first time traveller to Japan like us, we're confused. Maybe you can make a video about the transportation.
    Thank you for sharing your video!

      Cheryl Chan Thank you for watching and the comment and A GOOD Advise! Yes, I'm going to make how to use them. In fact, It's difficult for me to use ticketing machines in Tokyo!!! Soooo complicated.

    A really useful phrase I learnt when studying Japanese was "Mouichido yukkuri itte kudasai" (If my tablet supported hiragana I would've used that haha). It basically means "Please say it again slowly". This is only useful if you have some previous knowledge of Japanese though. I'll be using this religiously when I go next year as I understand a fair bit of Japanese but I'm still getting to grips with the speed of the language.

    Yuka, your videos are immensely charming, entertaining, and incredibly useful.
    It makes such a difference to get all this first hand information from a Japanese person.
    Makes me feel so much more confident - as I hold Japanese politeness in such high regard - and do not want to appear rude.
    Just a minor thing: this high pitched swoosh sound hurts my ears. I really love your videos - which is rare. Most people just ramble on and I have no patience for that.

    G'day ,
    Me and 3 friends from Australia are going to visit Japan in February mainly to get a grasp of the Japanese car scene as we are addicted to modification of cars due to the fact we drive japanese ones here in Australia lols. So is February a good time to visit and where can we make the most out of the automotive industry with 2nd parts in Japan we will be landing in tokyo and venturing out from there.
    Cheers mate!

    • @yukajapan
      @yukajapan  10 лет назад +1

      Prashneil Mudaliar Hi, thenk you for the comment. Well, I don't know anything about modification cars, though. And you might know this event already, " Tokyo auto salon" will be he;d in January in Tokyo,(www.tokyoautosalon.jp/2015/en/) and one in Fukuoka in Febuary (fukuokacustom.com/).
      Is this the info you're looking for??? I really don't know about cars. So if give me more details what you guys want to see and try, I can help you. :)

    Yuka,I have watched 3 of your short videos and your delivery is not too fast,which aids understanding.Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu.Tokorode,perhaps you have a video explaining when to use "ga" and "wa"? someone from Nihon told me you can use either...it does not matter all that much which particle one uses...but another person from anata no utsukushii kuni,said that is not necessarily the case.Domou arigatou.Noeru

    • @yukajapan
      @yukajapan  9 лет назад +2

      Noel Paech Well, I haven't made a video, which explains particles. And the usage of "ga" and "wa" play a role in correct Japanese. But if you ask me where I can understand you even though you choose in correct particle when you speak Japanese, I say Yes, I can totally understand you. So, there are correct usage of particles.

      Gifford Tojo Yeah, it's tricky one. For us, L and R sounds, especially R sound is really tough one. People have got hard time to be able to pronounce correctly since we have just one sound, which is kinda combined L and R sounds...

    Hi Yuka! Thank you for the video! I already know some of the basics but I'd like to be able to speak more whilst in Japan.
    Would it be possible for you to make a video about phrases/questions used by employees in restaurants and stores so we understand what they're saying?
    Thank you!

      Experience JAPAN with YUKA Please make videos for travelers! Many of us will find it useful if we can understand e.g: go straight, turn right or turn left in Japanese. I'm going to Tokyo during Christmas until New Year and I am really excited! Maybe a video of what Japanese do on New Year? Thank you. =)

    Hi Yuka, thanks for this very useful lesson, I have watched a few of your videos. I am planning to go to japan next year for an one month travel but still need to do a lot of search first. Would you mind to recommend some websites or any other resource that I can access, they could be either in English or Chinese. Thanks again for your videos. :)

      WenZhe Cao Thank you for warching my vids! Of course, I can recommend websites, though. I assume that you don't need general info, don't you? I'll put links if you let me know what kind of info you want to get or things you're interested in. How does it sound??? If you want to know just general info, also, let me know. I'll put links!!!

      Experience JAPAN with YUKA Hi YuKa, thanks for the reply, I am planning to go to Japan for roughly 30 days, so there will be a lot of cities i'm visiting, so far on the list there are Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, Nara, (please recommend if you think there are other places worth going in Kansai), Nagoya, Tokyo, Yokohama and Sapporo (is Sapporo the right place to go if I want to try sea food and hot spring in Hokkaido?)
      So here are the questions in my mind: 1.Do you think 30 days will be enough to cover those cities or do I need more time?
      2. My friend suggested me to buy a Japan Rail Pass before going to Japan, this Pass will cost me about 18000 Yan every week, do you reckon it is worth buying or should I just buy tickets in the stations, given the fact that I'm visiting a lot cities.
      3. Do you know any websites that have detailed tourism information ( things like famous tourist place with location, transport, open time, ticket price, etc) for each cities I mentioned above?
      4. Just like any other countries in the world, in Japan there must be a lot of non tourism places such as restaurants (food! I love food !:D:D:D) or other fun places,etc that only local Japanese people would go, so I remember you are from Osaka, any place in Osaka I should put on my ’must go' list?
      Thanks again for the help! really really appreciated :)

How can your English be this good since you are living in only 日本語 speaking community? or actually you lived abroad before? :D
    Btw, nice videos. I don't think it's a problem for others to survive in Japan, but would like to suggest if you can do Vlog on where Muslim people can actually enjoy Japanese food? Well I guess it's hard though. hehe. Thanks for reading!

      Thank you very much once again. This particular video was really helpful. I've been to Japan several times and I've actually been using the five words in your Survival Guide but was never certain of the meanings until I watched the video. Certainly clears up a lot of doubts. I'll be travelling to Osaka next month for a vacation. I'm sure to now use this smattering of Nihonggo with much more confidence. thank you for answering my question i really apriciate it. If it is not for me to ask can you please tell me how do you use honorfics? ( -san, -chan, -kun, -dono ) and which one is appropriate to use them? or even do foreigners need to use them? thank you again

    • @yukajapan
      @yukajapan  10 лет назад +1

      Dertly Trainer Well, as far as honorfics, it is pretty safe if you use -san. -chan is for girls and -kun is for boys. Both are casual forms. And -dono is... Well, it's an old form. We use -dono in writting, not speaking.
      Well, if you speak Japanese, I'll say Yes, it may be better to use. But it totally depends... Does this help you? If you have more questions, let me know!

    When do we say gomenasai instead of sumimasen? And when do we need to put 'o' for something. I remember when we ordered for water we had to say omizu kudasai.There was even this place daiba that was called odaiba. Also, when is it proper to use onegai shimasu instead of kudasai? I have a lot of questions. I hope you can answer them. Thank you!
