If you go to sky tree during the 2-3 last hours before closing theres practically nobody around. Although you might be missing the ultimate sunset view, the city skyline at night is still beautiful!!
Kat Nguyen agree. I pre booked the sky tree in advance to come back at about sunset. You get the best of both world. An amazing daytime view and a view of the in setting. Excellent
I will say "watch the weather forecast" when you go to observatories lol. I made the mistake of going to the metropolitan government building on an extremely overcast day and the cloud cover began at the level of the observatory. We couldnt see far into the distance that day at all.
Ericking, I went to Thailand. JAL let me stop in Tokyo...no charge. I stayed with a Japanese friend it was awesome! Tokyo is NOT as expensive as every says. Much more economical then London or New York. You can find a nice hotel for around $100 US a night. Stay in a traditional Japanese boarding house for half that price. That was 5 years ago though.
Comment down below, anywhere you felt was a bit underwhelming in Tokyo to help others watching this too! Also, stay till the end of the video to hear the what other tourists have to say :)
Trying to think of a place..but its pretty hard for me. I absolutely love pretty much everything about Japan. So much so, that I visit 1-2 times a year haha.
I definitely think one of the biggest tourist traps is what you mentioned as the SkyTree Tower. My experience was that there were so many people and long wait lines. The view was less than stellar and maybe the humid weather didn't make it any better. I definitely wished I went to more Temples in Tokyo. Love your videos. I have some videos of my trip to Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Okinawa on my youtube account. I wish I saw your videos before I went to Japan. Very helpful.
We went to the Skytree just after the New Year on a weekday and the queue was only about 10 mins. So glad we didn't have a problem! We must have been very lucky.
One of the first mainstream vids that gives more than the typical Tokyo but rather has some decent info, and shows proper alternative locations while still avoiding the harsher realities of #tokyolife. Well done. we need more like this, still middle of the road, accessible to the average common tourist, but showing more parts of the city that actually are worth visiting.
I for one appreciate this video knowing that as a tourist we already stick out like a sore thumb I try my hardest to avoid going to any places where tourist swarm like flies. Great job and keep up the hard work.
There are a lot of tourists. But you have to realize that very few attractions in Tokyo are really meant for international tourists... One of the most famous cities in the world and how many people know that even Tokyo Tower exists? You look at Harajuku or Akihabara or Shibuya or Shinjuku and you can see a lot of tourists... but the reality is these are still basically just normal districts with normal shopping, etc. The only more or less true tourist district (tourist upcharge on most stuff despite equal or inferior quality)I can think of is Odaiba... and even that's still almost completely targeting Japanese people. Basically, the point is most people at all these places are still Japanese. And probably not even Japanese tourists. They're just people going about their business, or having fun on a day off. Of course, stuff like towers you pay to go up are basically the epitome of a tourist trap, but overall I just don't get that feeling as much in Japan as most places.
You totally nailed it. Takeshitadori is similar to Melrose in LA. All the shops have overpriced, cheap quality item and they all carry the same stuff haha ... Love the tips of the other buildings with cool views as well. Thanks for sharing! :)
Maybe I didn’t see the right parts of Akihabara but I preferred Nakano broadway. You get a lot more of the local experience and there’s still anime centered shops (since that’s why most visit Akihabara as a tourist). If you intend on visiting- get a 7-11 meal because they’re so much better than the American ones!
I did like Nakano as well. Akiba was pretty fun and I enjoyed both. I feel like with Akiba you really have to search those buildings for shops you like. I found a music store with tons of old CD's in the 5th floor of some random building in Akiba and that place was awesome. Nakano is much more accessible though.
If I remember correctly... both times I did the sky tree I went halfway and never paid to go to the top (30th floor as you said). I loved the first floor stores personally (went I when it wasn’t too crowded), so I definitely recommend that...
Tokyo metro gov. building is good but the view @ Tokyo tower is much better since you get to see the bay and Tokyo. trust me. Skytree tower view isn't great as it is too far east of Tokyo. but yea go to them all to see different parts of the megacity. 👍👍 tokyu plaza rooftop is a mad chillout place, they have Starbucks there too. when I'm bored I go there to relax on the rooftop ^^ Tokyo dome city is a cool place as it has a roller coaster around the shopping centre and other rides. ikebukuro has a nice aquarium on top of a building (sunshine city). could add more but hey.
internationally ME i also think you can get a good view over asakusa/skytree from the culture and tourism center, which is near senso-ji...it also is free and the building has a platform that only has a few tourists are on
A big tourist trap that I went to was Gonpachi, the restaurant from the movie Kill Bill. It was very overpriced and I saw the most foreigners there than anywhere else in Tokyo.
When I was in Tokyo with my father we always walked in the small streets and parks. I loved doing that and it was nice not being amongst all the sound all the time.
Love your vlog - so genuine, honest and authentic. None of that pretentious, overly glossy ones many others do! Well done, keep it up. Also very helpful in helping me decide what to do for my upcoming trip to TKY. So thank you.
when we went to the sky tree there was like no people at all there. recommend to first go to tsukiji fish market REALLY early in the morning, like 4-5 am, and then go to asakusa, sensoji temple around 7 o'clock and it'll be really beautiful and empty and after that go to sky tree when they open at 8am. you won't even need to wait 15minutes in line, and there will be almost no people there ! ❤
Oh! When I went to Meiji shrine I was lucky enough to witness a traditional wedding! It was very quiet in comparison to western weddings and the bride was breath taking.
Excellent tips and suggestions. The Skytree looked so crowded, I don't know how enjoyable that would be. The temples look wonderful though, would really enjoy seeing those.
Agreed, As someone who has waited in line in the hot summer for a ticket to go inside it does take a bit away from the experience I stood in line for about 15min so to stand in line for 45min...ouch...
I like when people go to another country and expect the locals to speak English, but when foreigners come they get upset over them for not speaking English!
Well done video. Usually travel videos only show the good side, but i like something more down to earth like what you have done here. Will look out for more.
90 to 100 minutes for a ride in disneysea isn’t that bad lmao especally if you know how to use the fastpass system, but the biggest trap is probably the merchandise stores just after the gates because you can find better and more quiet stores inside the park
Standing in line for one and a half hours to have a small ride is "not that bad"? What the fuck, I've never waited more than 10 minutes and that was a fucking eternity.
@@roejin7365 In my country 3 hours would be the time to drive to the park, wait to get into the park, time spent at the park, the time driving home from the park and the time to make dinner for entire family eating it and taking a nap.
Created a channel just to comment on this video.... and yes RUclips I agree to all terms and conditions! NOW show my comment to the whole world! Hahaha It goes something like this, I love how you made this video very helpful we're going to Japan on Monday and we'll take all your advice on every tourist spot you mentioned :) Keep em coming! Cheers from the Philippines!
Thanks Kevin :) Glad you are enjoying my videos and I hope you guys have a great trip!! Now, let's hope RUclips doesn't send you too many email notifications haha those get annoying :P
Thank you. I'm taking notes because I'm planning a trip to Japan. This is so helpful and very straightforward. I like how you give useful tips minus the drama that other videos have.
Me and my boyfriend must have gone up skytree at the right time because the queue was only around 10 mins, not many people and the view was stunning, we also had tea and cake overlooking the city, very romantic and was very much worth it!
Just a tip for ramen enthusiasts... if your religion or personal dietary preferences restrict pork please be careful of ramen shops because most of them put lard in their soup even if they don't/won't tell you.
We spent 18 days in Japan this past April. Didn't have a problem getting into the Sky Tree. The lines were short, no more than 10 minutes. It was a weekday morning though. The best part of the trip was the cherry blossoms were in full bloom in Aomori. It was lovely! If you ever get to Hiroshima, you need to try the okonomiyaki.
My favourite part of my trip so far has been Tokyo tower. Get there early. Go to the 1st floor of the main observation deck and order a cola float and just admire the view. Well worth it
Great video, giving lots of tips! I particularly liked the part about Yokochos ; I will keep it in mind for the next time I visit Tokyo. Can't wait :') Thanks!
Love Yokochos in Japan. The Shinjuku one is getting a little bit overrated with tourists so different try the other ones! I recommend Yurakucho or Sangenjaya!
The video is great already, but you took the time to provide all those information in the description is even better. Thanks so much. Wish we can visit Tokyo soon!
I like Angela's tone in that she is able to point out things that might disappoint tourists without casting aspersions on those things. This balance is not often seen on RUclips.
Was just in Japan last week! Very much enjoyed it visiting tourist places as much as i can although I wasted too much time in Akihabara! On the bright side it gives me something to look forward to on my next trip!
Great vid! Went to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building instead of Tokyo Tower thanks to this video and managed to see Mt Fuji in the distance as well after failed attempt the day prior when we went to Hakone's round trip
8:07 I went to that bar a few times! The bartenders are super friendly i recommend making this one of your stops. I cant wait to go back and see them again.
Chill out, she just made an observation. I went to Estonia and everyone spoke english, so you never know. And good for her for being vegan, and it's very interesting that she had no trouble finding great food.
Yeah, I like the fact that she said that was understandable; I've had a friend of mine who was stationed in Spain, and someone had actually COMPLAINED to him that the locals didn't speak English! He was like, 'You're in Spain, so....' -_-
If you think that was crowded at Harajuku when you filmed your walk through, try that on a Sunday around 1pm. You were there when it was maybe at 20%. On a Sunday at 1pm it will be almost impassable. From the west end of the street looking down, it will look like a wall to wall carpet of heads. FYI, makes for an amusing picture.
I went to Tokyo last summer and I agree when places are super crowded it can be annoying and take away from the experience but I think in some cases you just gotta do it! (and try and go at a quieter time if you can) I thought the view from sky tree was unmissable, and the whole shopping mall area was cool..I was lucky enough to avoid those huge queues somehow! (But I went we a kind of tour group and I think we had a fast pass!) The view from Tokyo tower is less so but there’s a temple close by and there happened to be a haunted house thing there which was super fun! I agree that Takeshita Dori is a bit underwhelming; the back streets are where it's at! I think my advice for tourists who are only planning to go to Tokyo once, would be.. go to Tokyo tower area but don’t go up it. Go up skytree, if you really want to, but at a quieter time with fast pass and look down the backstreets of Takeshita Dori!! Also Cat Cafes aren't so great, most of the cats seem a lil sad and don't wanna play so maybe avoid them. (sorry this is so long lmao I hope someone finds this helpful)
I went to cat café that was placed a little outside of inner city, and it was the best cat café ever! There was kittens who wanted to play and cuddle with you, and they were all super cute! It was a small and cute café :) I also went to a cat cafe in Shinjuku and it was horrible. The cats were shy and grumpy and didn't want to cuddle, you weren't even allowed to hold them. You were at the other café :P
Okay, i don't know if someone deleted my comment, but the good cat café's name is ekoneko, the address is: Nerima-ku Asahigaoka 1-73-1 Mita Building 2F the bad one is the one in Shinjuku named Kyariko Cat Cafe, don't go there :P

Great video, and really handy tips. We loved that you interviewed people and even interviewed a vegan who had good experiences in Tokyo , as we were really concerned as vegans ourselves how we would go on our upcoming trip in 2018! Thanks very much, really well presented.
Nice editing. I am a professional editor/photographer as well. My only tip would be to invest in a moderately priced wireless lavalier microphone with a gain adjust. So you will be able to gain down when you are near waterfalls or exterior fans/vents that make background noise. The trade off for the clear audio while in those surroundings, is that you need to speak up a bit louder to compensate for the gain adjustment.
This is so benevolently harmless, if I compare that to the many _real_ scams that Serpentza talks about in China. What a difference. Nihon, I love you.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I was actually underwhelmed by Mandrake in Akihabara. I would say that Nakano Broadway had more interesting anime goods that are older. If you want recent anime goods, then shops like Animate around Akihabara are good.
I think it depends on what you're looking for? Mandrake in Shibuya is really good for doujinshi or older publications. I've never been to the one in Akihabara, but like you said, if you want affordable and older anime merch, Nakano Broadway is great. (Plus the giant rainbow ice cream there is a must!)
We'll be going to Japan on FEbruary next year, 2018, and as early as now Im watching a lot of travel guides about Japan, hope I'll be able to keep it all in mind!!!
Awesome! I've done a few videos of Osaka but I will be covering more of the Kansai region when the weather warms up a bit :P @filmjoelk I'm missing the takoyaki!! D:
First of all, Happy Birthday beautiful Angela!! Wishing for all your dreams and wishes to come true! Secondly, amazing video as always! Thank you for putting in so much thoughts and efforts into your work. It's such a pleasure to watch! The Chitai Yokocho in Sangenjaya is now on our list of to go's ;). - Tracey
The last lady shown on the video made me so happy. She said she was a vegan; so am I. It is so nice to know that a vegan can find places to eat in Japan that coincide with our lifestyle.
Squall Leonhart Maybe some stores change the prices depending on who walks in? (obviously they’ll try to charge foreigners more) So if the prices are displayed in the window already, this scenario can’t happen. Idk if charging foreigners more is a big thing in Japan tho it’s definitely a big thing in China so that’d be my guess.
@@jenna_maria sorry that isn't true. Prices are there and traditional places don't display them in the window. Sorry it's not a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. Think again
Can I just say thank you so much your hints and tips for us travellers are brilliant. Myself and my sons are looking to travel to Japan in the near future and this is great.
Can't wait to go back to Japan! When I visited the Skytree it was almost empty, no lines and many places to walk around to sigthsee. We went around 6pm in November 2015. Amazing experience!!!
Golden Gai can definitely be a tourist trap, but if you are in Shinjuku I feel like it is something you should at least check out once just for the novelty of it
I've been to the CN tower in Toronto many times. Long lines, expensive and crowded. Skytree must be twice as bad. Try and get there as early as possible if you have to go. Another great video Angela!
Thank you internationally ME!!!! I viewed and enjoyed all your Japan videos of different places and things to do. This helped me in planning my daily activities while I'll be visiting Japan next week in June 2018!!! SO Excited!
I had one of my best travelling experiences in Golden Gai. I wandered around the area before picking a bar with just one customer inside. The owner barely spoke any English, and he was chatting with the only customer who looked like a salaryman in Japanese. However I was pleasantly joined by an Mexican-American guy and an Dutch dude, and we had an awesome chat on a ton of topics, from football to travelling experiences for a couple of hours over drinks. My take on Golden Gai is that it's a nice area if you are travelling solo, or wanting to meet new friends since the area is frequented by foreigners who are seeking adventures. It's difficult to find locals that are willing to chat or even hangout due to the language barrier, so Golden Gai is perhaps your best bet. Just keep your mind open, find a bar with a nice atmosphere, doors open (very important), reasonable cover charge (forget the 1000 and 1500 ones, it's not worth it), and chat up.
Sky Tree is one amazing structure. Using design features from the famous pagoda's this one fantastic experience. Sure it's busy so what it's well worth booking to save heaps of time.
Wow a lot of views already. I've been to most of the tourist traps (just not the small bar streets in Tokyo). Also been to some of the alternative areas mentioned. Definitely going to have to check out the roof top lounge in Harajuku next time. Definitely agree that Sky Tree wasn't really worth the wait and price. I didn't mind the price of Tokyo Tower and the sky walk (where you step on clear platform) was pretty cool. I would add that some of the themed restaurants are overpriced and not worth it. I heard Maid Café aren't that great, but heard the Robot Café is good (except insanely expensive). I went to Kawaii Monster Café in Harajuku and thought that was cute and the food not bad (really pretty looking). There's also a show with it. Also went to Alcatraz ER theme café and that wasn't worth it. Another item I recommend are the animal cafes. I've been to several owl cafes, a bunny café, cat café, and a hedgehog café. Definitely recommend the Hedgehog café (it's in Rippongi). I recommend Owl Village café in Harajuku (not the one of the busy main street but the one facing the Harajuku station.
Themed restaurants are what they are. They're basically always going to be super expensive. It's a shame that Alcatraz ER doesn't seem to be very good- thematically, it seems like it could really work. Robot Restaurant seems to be love it or hate it, and of all things, is probably the closest to a tourist trap. It's pretty much designed and advertised for foreigners to go to that. Foreigners often mention it (with again, a very positive, or not particularly, review), but I don't think I've ever heard a Japanese person (that wasn't working at a hostel or something) talk about it. On the other hand, while @home and maidreaming in particular seem to draw foreigners by reputation, I still can't help but think that maid cafes are designed with Japanese clientele in mind. They're expensive, but the food is super cute, and if you get the right stuff, more or less filling. I've been once, a long time ago... and maybe I'd be up for going again, eventually, haha. I didn't have sky high expectations- I just wanted the weird experience. Service was excellent, and everything else passable. Price, not that terrible, but beyond my usual means. lol
I'm 99% sure I went to that roof top lounge in June '17 and it was insanely crowded. It's right across from a Starbucks. It might be empty in weather when one wants to wear a heavy jacket, but if it's warm it's going to be popular.
there is a maid cafe in akihabara called "@home cafe" they display their menu and price in front of their store so you won't feel like you got robbed by maids
Avoid Robot Restaurant. Very expensive (approximately $60); the show is about 90 minutes long but almost half of the time they are on intermission selling you food and merchandise. Plus the show itself seemed cheap (no actual robots). For what you pay for robot restaurant you can pay the same for Tokyo Disneyland.
I went there, and yes, it is expensive, but I liked the show. It was flashy and intentionally cheap-looking, but with the amount of action going on, the taiko drum performance, and super sentai-like show, it was worth it.
Best place to find a Tokyo or Japan souvenir T-shirt? Was in Tokyo 12 years ago and never saw a vendor selling T-shirt’s. Will be in Tokyo this August.
That's why i went up a sky scraper instead of the Eiffel tower itself when i was in Paris. PS: Actually Tokyo Sky Tree is the tallest Tower in the world and the second highest man made structure overall.
I agree, the back streets of Harajuku are the real gems of the area! Also, west Tokyo neighbourhoods like Kichijoji, Shimokitazawa and Koenji are so much better (and cheaper!) than Shinjuku and Shibuya.
Great video and I like that you offered suggestions and visuals of where to go instead of the touristy overpriced places. I am planning a trip to Tokyo, Kyoto, Uji area and maybe Sapporo. What month was this video shot? I am still deciding on when to visit Japan...I am def ruling out summer as I don't want to melt. ;)
What were some of these people expecting from the Skytree? I thought it was fantastic. It gives you a really good perspective of how big that city is and how many millions of people are going about their lives down below. All the offices, apartments, cars... I found it to be very moving and humbling to look down and barely be able to make out the people below and to know that minutes before that I was just another tiny dot walking down the street. There are so many people in that city alone. It was quite thought-provoking. Is it a bit expensive for what it is? Yes of course but I still believe it is worth it. Note that I can see how going during a crowded time could really take away from the experience. I went at the perfect time- right as the sun was just above the horizon and right as it set. There wasn't much of a crowd and I was able to see the city both in daylight and at night. It was a bit foggy but it was still a wonderful sight and I recommend it to anyone visiting Tokyo. If you go on a day with no fog you'll get even a better view than I did.
if you go to senso ji at night time it's AMAZING, basically nobody is there, the shops are close and you really feel you are in ancient Japan! You can also have a nice view at sunshine 60, Its on 59th floor (where the restaurats are located) The worst thing do to its de robot restaurant in shinjuku, extremally overpriced for a basic show with "robots" never ever go to this show. avoid all maids cafe in akihabara, overpriced food and sometimes wierd situations hahah also if you are anime fan avoid brand new stuff, tokyo have endless second hand stores, like boof off and hobby off
Great tips! :D I've walked through Asakusa at night and it's just completely different from the day time when theres people everywhere. It has a really awesome vibe to it, doesn't it :)
OMG yes, maid cafes are so awkward. I could barely speak Japanese, the maids could not speak English, everyone was uncomfortable... But one of those sorta' shy, reclusive, loner type guys sitting at the bar beside me could speak some English, so he could awkwardly guide me through some things :D
travelled in june to japan and loved it !! amazing country and everyone is so friendly we did hire some wonderful guides to make the most of our trip ..a local guide is worth every penny or yen .your videos are very helpful...We did do tokyo tower and it was cool .and we also did disneysea we did find long lines for every thing but that is life and it is a very popular park and it is an amazing park ...would love to go back japan and see more of the country
Dear Angela, This was my first youtube video i saw in my preparation for my trip tot Japan next may. Thank you for your tips and advice and i love your video's. I love to see the next one's Edo
a native english speaker(who probably speaks no other language) criticise that the japanese people speak no english... learn japanese or another language! ;)
I mean she openly said that she "totally respected that". Furthermore, English is spoke worldwide. Japanese isn't spoken outside Japan. Knowing English is way more useful than knowing Japanese. And that's coming from someone who speaks both.
Ah.... then quite close. Only sort of reversed?.. In the Eye one has to wait for about an hour in the ticket line and then 1-2 hours in the line to the eye itself.
And the shitty thing about the Eye is that once you have seen what you want and is happy you then have to wait for that slow thing to make the final 180 degrees of the rotation to get back down while thinking "Why the hell did I even get on this colossal waste of time???"
City view is overrated in my opinion, I've been to Namsan Tower in Seoul, well, looks like any other big city from above other than you can't take really quality photos through the pretty messed up windows, also I've seen Nagasaki from the top of Inasayama, Bergen (Norway) form Flöyen, Kyoto form top of Fushimi Inari, Hiroshima from Ryuo Park and many more, you can't really tell the difference. If you find a small city/village surrounded by mountains and lakes/rivers, it is worth it.
If you go to sky tree during the 2-3 last hours before closing theres practically nobody around. Although you might be missing the ultimate sunset view, the city skyline at night is still beautiful!!
Kat Nguyen, I agree. me and my friend visite the Sky Tree at almost 2 hours before the closing. We were able to go up w/o the lines.
Good tip guys.
Ye true. I went there in the evening and I stood maybe 10 min in line
Kat Nguyen agree. I pre booked the sky tree in advance to come back at about sunset. You get the best of both world. An amazing daytime view and a view of the in setting. Excellent
Me and my friend went there in the morning so there weren't that many people around.
5:16 the shop up the escalator to the right is the Studio Ghibli shop. Highly recommend it for any fans!
Nice tip ;)
An even better option would probably be to visit the Ghibli Museum.
Tom Smith Ghibli museum was super cute!
Skip that and find a Rilakkuma Store!!!!!!!!

I will say "watch the weather forecast" when you go to observatories lol. I made the mistake of going to the metropolitan government building on an extremely overcast day and the cloud cover began at the level of the observatory. We couldnt see far into the distance that day at all.
You are the real MVP! If I ever travel to Tokyo (I hope so) I will pay attention to your advice.
Those queues! D:The worst part about tourist areas is that they are full of other tourists.
I traveled during Golden Week and the lines weren't particularly bad, I think many people had left Tokyo to vacation elsewhere.
I had a local friend take me around to the food places in back alleys. Was great to avoid other foreign tourists.
tell me about it! I went to Florida, Orlando last year and when I was on the bus, it was full with English people loool ( I'm English myself)

wow.... Japan really is gorgeous. hope to go there one day.

Book that ticket! haha :)
do it!! and visit kyoto
I'll be sure to come back to this video when I go to Japan next year, thank you so much, I'm sure it will be extremely useful.
How exciting! Time flies so next year will come right before you know it :) Thanks for watching.
Comment down below, anywhere you felt was a bit underwhelming in Tokyo to help others watching this too! Also, stay till the end of the video to hear the what other tourists have to say :)
internationally ME great video amazing sights, I would love to visit the temples.
Thank you for your video. I'm going to Japan in April and I have limited time, so your video's are great to help me plan.
Iran is amazing in this year because we have a lot of rainfall ,So travel to Iran ....A backpacker from Iran
We went to the Skytree just after the New Year on a weekday and the queue was only about 10 mins. So glad we didn't have a problem! We must have been very lucky.

Very insightful opinion. cheers
You totally nailed it. Takeshitadori is similar to Melrose in LA. All the shops have overpriced, cheap quality item and they all carry the same stuff haha ... Love the tips of the other buildings with cool views as well. Thanks for sharing! :)
Yay, glad you liked it!! ;D
Go to the Tokyo Skytree at night. The line is much much shorter and the view of all of the building lights at night is nice.
Yeah i didn't like akiba at all (overhyped and too many booby lady figures for me haha) Nakano all the way!
Nakano was probably my favorite! The neighborhoods in Nakano-ku are adorable as well
I love Akiba, but Nakano has my heart. Im more of a retro anime fan, and it was my paradise. I could die happy in that Sailor Moon section.
Same here, I have found Nakano broadway way cooler and more enjoyable than Akihabara.
I've lived in Tokyo for 3 years and I feel like I've learned so much about Tokyo that I never knew after watching this haha. Awesome job!!
Lol I've been in Tokyo for about a total of three years too :P Get out there and explore issei hehe
you gotta be kidding me? There is so much to this country than what this girl is saying.
Tokyo metro gov. building is good but the view @ Tokyo tower is much better since you get to see the bay and Tokyo. trust me. Skytree tower view isn't great as it is too far east of Tokyo.
but yea go to them all to see different parts of the megacity. 👍👍
tokyu plaza rooftop is a mad chillout place, they have Starbucks there too. when I'm bored I go there to relax on the rooftop ^^
Tokyo dome city is a cool place as it has a roller coaster around the shopping centre and other rides.
ikebukuro has a nice aquarium on top of a building (sunshine city).
could add more but hey.
Great tips :D I will be doing a video about what to do in Tokyo but since there is so much to choose from, I thought I'd do this video first!
Thanks for showing me around in your show Conan ;D It´s always fun to see places and to know their name just because of you and your family ;D
internationally ME i also think you can get a good view over asakusa/skytree from the culture and tourism center, which is near senso-ji...it also is free and the building has a platform that only has a few tourists are on
I saw your name/avatar and honestly just thought, "of course Conan wouldn't suggest Sky Tree Tower, I've seen that movie."
A big tourist trap that I went to was Gonpachi, the restaurant from the movie Kill Bill. It was very overpriced and I saw the most foreigners there than anywhere else in Tokyo.
Tons of foreigners in a local restaurant... that is never a good sign.
Yeeeeeees
also japanese food is overpriced ,
overrated and overstimate

When I was in Tokyo with my father we always walked in the small streets and parks. I loved doing that and it was nice not being amongst all the sound all the time.
My hobby includes urban exploration. So what you did is exactly what I love doing, I can relate to you 100%
My favourite spot is Todoroki Valley near Setagaya. Quiet, secluded spot and free entrance.
This is my second time going to Tokyo and that's one of my favorite things to do.
greatest city on earth... I'm from UK went to Tokyo for my honeymoon for 2 weeks but hopefully will go again next year
#neocolonialists
The Geekazoid congtats ;)
Did you make your husband sit at home and use video chat to make up for it? #Strongindependentwoman
What did you visit in Tokyo? I’m planning to go for my honeymoon too
And fuck the US you missed that part...
Could you do a video about your favorite culture spots? Like places that represent your favorite aspects of the culture.
I'm so happy that lady mentioned she was vegan as I was worried about finding vegan options. Thank goodness for happy cow.
I was so tired being surrounded by a sea of people D: never againnnnnnn especially for that price...
internationally ME I can only imagine how draining it was.
I went during a weekday and there was no lineups at all. Went right on the elevator up to the top floor.
Agreed, As someone who has waited in line in the hot summer for a ticket to go inside it does take a bit away from the experience I stood in line for about 15min so to stand in line for 45min...ouch...
Reminds me of the time I tried to see the Mona Lisa. : (
I like when people go to another country and expect the locals to speak English, but when foreigners come they get upset over them for not speaking English!
It's almost like English is the international language
And I hate your sarcams!
I agree, I always try to speak the native language, even though I butcher it. I hate/ am ashamed at how egotistical some Americans get.
To be fair Japan is the only country that speaks Japanese.
I get upset if they don't speak English AND ENGLISH IS NOT MY NATIVE LANGUAGE. Learn English, it's 2018..
Well done video. Usually travel videos only show the good side, but i like something more down to earth like what you have done here. Will look out for more.
Thank you!!
90 to 100 minutes for a ride in disneysea isn’t that bad lmao especally if you know how to use the fastpass system, but the biggest trap is probably the merchandise stores just after the gates because you can find better and more quiet stores inside the park
yeah it is, why would you wait 100 minutes for a ride? that is beyond ridiculous
Standing in line for one and a half hours to have a small ride is "not that bad"? What the fuck, I've never waited more than 10 minutes and that was a fucking eternity.
Why're people getting peeved... I waited 3 hours for the Jurassic Park ride at Universal Studios in Hollywood ==
@@roejin7365 In my country 3 hours would be the time to drive to the park, wait to get into the park, time spent at the park, the time driving home from the park and the time to make dinner for entire family eating it and taking a nap.
@@vedmaburuxova68 You obviously never been to Disney.
I went to Takeshita dori in 2017 and found what you call "secret place" but I was actually lost with my friend lmao. It was so cool tho !
Well there you have it, my hometown Tokyo is amazing. :) I'm a proud Tokyo girl... living abroad and missing Tokyo badly these days :/
Splendid work, Angela. innovative content, definitely prominent. makes us to look Tokyo in different perspective. 😎
Thank you! Hoping it helps some first time travellers.
This was a nice video, love how you gave some alternatives 😊
Hope you can try them out someday, Ivana! :)
Just a tip for ramen enthusiasts... if your religion or personal dietary preferences restrict pork please be careful of ramen shops because most of them put lard in their soup even if they don't/won't tell you.
Religious? In 2018?
They're not not telling them, they're enlightening them with pork.
Thank you!!!
Is Japan an islam country?....mind blogging!!
@Cameron Pangborn Of course muslims can eat pork, the same as anyone else. It is just superstition. They will not get sick if they eat it.
Japan has been on my list of places to visit for quite some time, I think it's time I made it a reality!
Ohhhh!! Do it!
Well worth it
Takeshita street -- nearby is Gyoza-Ro, a highly rated, VERY inexpensive Gyoza restaurant. Totally recommend!
I recommend Yurakucho or Sangenjaya!

i will someday surely visit japan, thanks 2 ur videos!!
Aww that's great to hear!! I hope you will plan the most awesome trip with some of my guides haha
Tdawg ... mind if I ask if may share what you did in Akihabara that you consider time wasted?
5:36, autocaptions: "so you think you're nearly dead, but then you realize the lime is like a snake bag"
Great vid! Went to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building instead of Tokyo Tower thanks to this video and managed to see Mt Fuji in the distance as well after failed attempt the day prior when we went to Hakone's round trip
That last lady's tip about finding food was awesome. Thanks lady
8:07 I went to that bar a few times! The bartenders are super friendly i recommend making this one of your stops. I cant wait to go back and see them again.
Lady at 10.50 so nice of you to respect the Japanese for not speaking English
MelbourneVape Store This is sarcastic right? lol
MelbourneVape Store
Cut her some slack, she is a vegan...
He was like, 'You're in Spain, so....' -_-
Classic
If you think that was crowded at Harajuku when you filmed your walk through, try that on a Sunday around 1pm. You were there when it was maybe at 20%. On a Sunday at 1pm it will be almost impassable. From the west end of the street looking down, it will look like a wall to wall carpet of heads. FYI, makes for an amusing picture.
I went to Tokyo last summer and I agree when places are super crowded it can be annoying and take away from the experience but I think in some cases you just gotta do it! (and try and go at a quieter time if you can)
I thought the view from sky tree was unmissable, and the whole shopping mall
area was cool..I was lucky enough to avoid those huge queues somehow! (But I
went we a kind of tour group and I think we had a fast pass!)
The view from Tokyo tower is less so but there’s a temple close by and there happened
to be a haunted house thing there which was super fun!
I agree that Takeshita Dori is a bit underwhelming; the back streets are where
it's at!
It was a small and cute café :)
I also went to a cat cafe in Shinjuku and it was horrible. The cats were shy and grumpy and didn't want to cuddle, you weren't even allowed to hold them. You were at the other café :P
Can I ask you what the name of the cat cafe that you found good was? I'm going there in two weeks and want to find a great cat cafe! :D
Awesome tips!! Perfect sum up at the end.

I live in Tokyo. This video is legitimate
Thanks ;)
jricooo I'm coming T the end of the month ..can you help me
lmao. u probably need to get out a bit more of tokyo. its not all about the city centre.

@@Jay_Tweezy Obviously, you get acces to both, the higher and the lower deck if you choose to go for the ticket to the top deck.
This is so benevolently harmless, if I compare that to the many _real_ scams that Serpentza talks about in China. What a difference. Nihon, I love you.
Right? I thought it was like dangerous areas to avoid or something but its more like places to avoid losing a few hundred yen.
What I thought exactly!
Japan > China. The difference is like earth and the sky. Chinese are manipulative
Funny, I was underwhelmed by the stuff in Animate, though I only did go to one of the (I believe) two in Akihabara.
Nakano Broadway is cheaper and has more variety.
Shopkeepers are also way friendlier!!
One of the best videos!! When u turned the corner by the crepe and shoe shops there was no one!! Yeeeee!
We'll be going to Japan on FEbruary next year, 2018, and as early as now Im watching a lot of travel guides about Japan, hope I'll be able to keep it all in mind!!!

great video very original idea 💯😀
The last lady shown on the video made me so happy. She said she was a vegan; so am I. It is so nice to know that a vegan can find places to eat in Japan that coincide with our lifestyle.
This video is great. I am heading to Tokyo in a month for the first time. Very psyched.
Never go into a sushi shop which doesn't display prices in the window.
whats that about?
Squall Leonhart Maybe some stores change the prices depending on who walks in? (obviously they’ll try to charge foreigners more) So if the prices are displayed in the window already, this scenario can’t happen. Idk if charging foreigners more is a big thing in Japan tho it’s definitely a big thing in China so that’d be my guess.
@@jenna_maria sorry that isn't true. Prices are there and traditional places don't display them in the window. Sorry it's not a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. Think again
Usually the crap restaurants display prices in the window lol

You mean‘ Never go to the best places ’.
I am going to Tokyo in two weeks! All of your videos have been very helpful!
@PhyZeik shes stuck in a trap
Thank you for this video. It's amazing. Much love from Canada.
One thing about those back streets is that the price at the shops sky rocket.
Golden Gai can definitely be a tourist trap, but if you are in Shinjuku I feel like it is something you should at least check out once just for the novelty of it
Went to Takeshita on a Sunday... INSANE amount of people.
It's interesting to see for a first Tokyo visit, but I'm not going to go there again.
SO Excited!
Not the traps I was looking for :/
Same =(

if you go to golden gai try bar buster if you can find it
I had one of my best travelling experiences in Golden Gai.
I found it funny the Vegan was interviewed in front of a Wendys !!! :)
Thank you for this, it will help with our trip next year !
Thank you. Your review is actually much more informative than this video.
Thank you, I was planning on going but it does seem a little expensive
Best place to find a Tokyo or Japan souvenir T-shirt? Was in Tokyo 12 years ago and never saw a vendor selling T-shirt’s. Will be in Tokyo this August.
Shawn Quish Nakano Broadway store I’m sure is loaded with them
Ueno, very cheap and good quality
Try Ameyokocho market near Ueno Station.
Wow. This is helpful. Also, I really appreciate how it's also listed down in the comments! Thanks for being considerate.
Don't miss going to see The Imperial Palace, that blew me away! also go to Meiji Shrine that is amazing!
That's why i went up a sky scraper instead of the Eiffel tower itself when i was in Paris.
PS: Actually Tokyo Sky Tree is the tallest Tower in the world and the second highest man made structure overall.
Teringventje no, it’s not u dickhead
J024 I did the Eiffel it was cool until the crushing wait till get down. But still it was cool
Well, it’s true all you can see in the horizon are buildings.
Harajuku STREET is great, not Harajuku itself. Tokyo Disney Sea is the best themepark in the world. Do not go on a weekend as the crowds will be huge.
Japanese love lines. If there's a line, they will line up.
If people bother to line up, whatevers at the end of the line must be good!
@@shizukamori6755we definitely did this (stood in the longest lines for whatever it was) and were never disappointed
So happy to see that vegan lady! I am going to Japan next year and I am vegan and it’s nice to know it’s not hard!! :D good video!!
I agree, the back streets of Harajuku are the real gems of the area! Also, west Tokyo neighbourhoods like Kichijoji, Shimokitazawa and Koenji are so much better (and cheaper!) than Shinjuku and Shibuya.
Kichijoji!
Amazing comfortable pillow. As a regular traveller , this is the best pillow i have ever use and its cost effective as well with long durability
You can also have a nice view at sunshine 60, Its on 59th floor (where the restaurats are located)
The worst thing do to its de robot restaurant in shinjuku, extremally overpriced for a basic show with "robots" never ever go to this show.
avoid all maids cafe in akihabara, overpriced food and sometimes wierd situations hahah
also if you are anime fan avoid brand new stuff, tokyo have endless second hand stores, like boof off and hobby off
But one of those sorta' shy, reclusive, loner type guys sitting at the bar beside me could speak some English, so he could awkwardly guide me through some things :D
travelled in june to japan and loved it !! amazing country and everyone is so friendly we did hire some wonderful guides to make the most of our trip ..a local guide is worth every penny or yen .your videos are very helpful...We did do tokyo tower and it was cool .and we also did disneysea we did find long lines for every thing but that is life and it is a very popular park and it is an amazing park ...would love to go back japan and see more of the country

a native english speaker(who probably speaks no other language) criticise that the japanese people speak no english... learn japanese or another language! ;)
Ikr I cringed so hard when she said that. Just the arrogance of it-.-
Now you know how we feel when immigrants come to the US and refuse to speak English.
I mean she openly said that she "totally respected that". Furthermore, English is spoke worldwide. Japanese isn't spoken outside Japan. Knowing English is way more useful than knowing Japanese. And that's coming from someone who speaks both.
She was asked a question and answered it, perhaps other people then we go and not take it for granted and download an app. Useful
Not surprised coming from an old rag especially from that down under nationality.... Arrogants
45 minutes.... compared to up to 2-3 hours to see the Eye of London - not bad.
Keep in mind that I had to wait 2 hours before I could finally wait in the 45min line to get my ticket.. lol
Ah.... then quite close.
Wow I only waited about 15 minutes for the London Eye. Guess I was lucky.
Those advices are exactly what I tell everyone! I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking that way.
Holy wow!! Tokyo is HUGE!!! That aerial view was insane. I wanna go so bad 😅
