The craziest thing about that scream: Chester could do it live, and it was even crazier live than the studio version

    • @JupiterThndr
      @JupiterThndr 10 месяцев назад +30

Also totally improvised. When Chester was recording the vocals for this song he didn't know how long to hold that note so held it for 17 seconds. Mike then said we are not touching that and they had to rearrange they rest of the song to keep it.

I never get tired of seeing people react to this song and that 17 second scream. One of the best songs to exhibit Chester's crazy vocal control. As some other fans have said, picking a "favorite" song is near impossible, but if I had to point to a few to recommend, I'd say Breaking the Habit, Castle of Glass, Catalyst, When They Come for Me, and Leave Out All the Rest.

Oh man, the reactions are always great. First people are jamming, head nodding with the beat. You can see them feeling the song. Then the eyes start to widen O.O as the scream goes on and on. They slowly stop jamming and everyone just goes slack jawed and they all just have to take a minute to truly come to terms with the amazingness of the scream and the realization that this song really came from deep inside and you feel both sad and awed at the same time. It's very powerful.

I’ve been a massive LP for years, loving every step they’ve taken, including Fort Minor and everything Mike able to accomplish with it. But let me tell you, Faint has and forever will be my favorite track that LP has ever released. There’s a certain beautiful and almost methodical balance between rap, rock, screamo, nu-metal, and electronica that they built in that track that is absolute perfection.

The lyrics to this song were written in 2005/2006 when Chester was having a really bad problems after his divorce from his first wife. This song was released 10 years before he death.
He has been the full 17 second scream live several times. The first one that comes my mind first is Given Up AOL sessions.
If you want to hear Chester scream a lot live then watch Faint Rock AM Ring 2007 or A Place for my Head live in Texas.

They did a live performance of it on Jimmy Kimmel and Chester breaks down at the end due to the fact that the close friend was Chris Cornell of Soundgarden/Audioslave/Temple of the Dogg, Chester looked up to Chris like an elder brother.

I had a chance to meet them in person and they were a riot LOL. Eyewitness firsthand Chester doing his scream and it was absolutely amazing. Anyone who is a true fan like I am would realize that none of their songs were ever happy or about great relationships they were all about digging and searching and finding themselves. It is so sad looking back and not seeing the signs of the pain he was actually going through. Growing up in Southern California I had a chance to meet and talk to a lot of musicians in my day. Most of us think because they have money and fame and all the things that go with it that they must be happy but obviously he was truly truly hurting so bad inside.

The scream will forever be iconic. But, the way he is able to go back to hitting that note without struggle on the "up"

Yeah it may not be the longest but it's still ridiculous. 18 seconds screaming like that is crazy.

Check out the last song he recorded. Cross Off is the song. It's under Mark Morton "Cross Off". It's Lamb of God but Chester did the vocals. Song is ridiculous 🤯

The reasons Chester was so damn good at conveying emotion through his song was because all if his emotions he was trying to convey were all real emotions

I've seen a handful of reactions to this song, but you are the first one to really grasp it. I don't think that I would have understood it if I hadn't experienced my own depression.

The reaction when he hits the scream is amazing. Every reaction of this song i see has the same. About halfway through people's faces just drop. Lol

I would say the most heartbreaking performance by Chester was One More Light Live (Chris Cornell Tribute), It was on Jimmy Kimmel. He was very good friends with Chris Cornell and, I believe, found out earlier that day the Chris had killed himself. Definitely worth watching.

My favorite Linkin Park song is Powerless, though I'm certainly in the minority nobody talks about that song ever but I love it
The way I interpret Powerless is that it's a song about watching someone struggle with something whether it be an Addiction or Depression or something else and trying and wanting to help but being powerless to do anything about it, I don't know just something about it gets me
Waiting For The End and Across The Line are also great but you can't go wrong with any of the songs
