  • On the day of ITV's Rock on Tommy: the Bobby Ball Story at 9pm this evening, this video gives a deeper look at Bobby's later in life change of direction. Told with his characteristic humour and devastating honesty it shows the Cannon and Ball story in a new light. A prickly encounter with the chaplain to the Allhambra Theatre in Bradford unsettled Bobby and caused him to question the way his life was going.

    I met Bobby Ball on holiday when his wife was ill and can say what an absolutely lovely man. He borrowed a book from me at his wife's request, finished reading it and asked to borrow another. He never used to read or relax on holiday, his wife thanked me for that small gesture. Thankyou Bobby for your company that year and for all the laughter you gave to others.

    I'm watching this testimony,, and its great. What Bobby says is right. A lot of people go to church with a bible and thinks it makes them Christian, they sure giving it lip service. As it says in the bible " by their deeds shall he know them" and also "let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father in heaven".. I've been lucky in my life to know two Christian people, who did great things for my family, and asked for nothing in return. True Christians don't ask for recognition.

      I can respect that you are at least gracious and affording. Great comment. I only ask that you never close your mind to the "possibility" and keep your ears and mind open. You someday will hear the creators voice, forget what anybody else says, including me. Just don't close the door to this possibility. I wish you well, in life and peace and happiness.

    Bob has found something that some of us never find in life - inner peace. We are so bound up in making money, buying stuff we don't really need, and don't really want that we forget that all we need is each other. Bob has gone now to meet his maker. I hope he is in Heaven and truly at peace, looking down on us mere mortals who are searching for that 'something' whatever that something is. R. I. P. Bob.

    I only found out after Bobby passed away that he found God. Well in truth God found Bobby. But the great miracle extended to Tommy finding God also. Bobby and Tommy didn't talk for years after a fallout and when Bobby found God his first port of call was to contact Tommy and reconcile their friendship. Big lesson there for all of us me thinks. RIP Bobby, you will be very much missed.

    I have never heard someone talk such open straight forward about God ever. I see the various tv shows but they feel so detached, sanitized, cold, words spoken without feeling. It's Christmas so say the official speech, sing the obligitory hymns and go back home officially finished. Bobby summed up the entire thing without all the wailing and high pitched singing no one understands or can make out the words. It's like the official made for tv version including smart new clothes and didn't the hat shop do well that week. Well done Bobby simply put and without ceremony. 👍 Sadly no longer with us but left those words behind for others to hear. ❤

      @dannycarter1966 Год назад

      @@petersnowdon6405 because I believe in a creator, but he's long gone. It ok believing that Jesus Christ loves us all, but during the Holocaust, the recent Turkish earthquake or for someone slowly dying with COVID 19, Marburg, HIV or Ebola, that notion simply falls apart. I've been round the block, I've seen too much cruelty in this life to change my mindset now. But it really changed Bob for the better which radiated out to his family and friends, so good on him!

    • @petersnowdon6405
      @petersnowdon6405  Год назад

      @@dannycarter1966 Danny, I think the point you raise is the number one sticking point for both non believers and believers alike and there are no easy answers. We can fall back on two things: first God has given us free will to do both bad and good to each other and without that we would just be robots. Secondly, when it comes to natural disasters we live in a precarious world where bad things happen to both good and bad people regardless. It's just the way the world is and the movements of the earth's crust and the oceans is all part of a dynamic system that sustains life. We have to ask if God intervened to stop earthquakes should he also intervene to stop us falling and breaking our necks from a ladder? And again is a world without risk the world we want. The only other thing I would say is that in for example the holocaust there were people who came through that with their faith intact or even found faith through it - so as you say it is a very individual thing. Glad you liked the video anyway and thanks for your comments which are very apt. Peter

      So basically he was a total bastard to his wife for all those years and he thinks he can flick a switch and be forgiven by a so-called god that is in his imagination. That's the trouble with religion, it's no more than a get-out-of-jail-free card. How pathetic. So someone can go and rape someone, or kill a child, and say "Oops, sorry god, please forgive me" and walk away with your held high. Religion is really for the weak. There is no god, FFS.

      Al. What you say is a very common feeling. One I had myself many years ago when I was searching for some kind of meaning. The philosopher and mathematician Pascal said something like; there is God shaped vacuum in every one of us and only God can fill it. The heart of the Christian message is having a personal relationship with God but that simple truth gets lost in what you could call Religion. Many people find that when they get that settled then, as you so wonderfully put it, that is the missing piece of the jigsaw.
      I would be happy to talk more with you about this if you feel it could help but think that it should be by a private link or phone call rather than on these public pages. Decide for yourself if that's what you want. My email is pete@videoman.co.uk and my number is 07711 737066.

    I work in a smell theatre. And that is what I said when Bobby ball left. Backstage he is Arrogant and full off self importance. He was very demanding and rude to our volunteer staff. He as definitely got the Napoleon complex. But him talking about God. Puts retch in my guts. He was talking like he was 10 men. You would not believe how close I was to dragging him outside. But I love my job. So pride took a back step. Even in this video. He is asking for praise and showing off his non existence importance. in telling the good people to clap..vanity is one of the deadly sins. He is showcasing this to you now on stage..he says he's joking. But this was one of his demands for our warm up guy..he demanded huge applause.

      Dennis, thanks for your comment. It's not up to me to defend Bobby one way or the other but I would be interested in whether he remained as arrogant after his conversion. Usually driven people like Bobby don't change their basic personality but when they really become a Christian their behaviour changes over time, providing they continue growing as Christians. Sometimes people make a good start and then give up (for a variety of reasons). I agree with you that on this clip Bobby is still the showman, working the crowd at the beginning but later he gets deadly serious. The great stars, Brucie, Morecambe and Wise all had that and it never leaves them. But I do think that he is telling his story as it was to him and I have heard the chaplain from Bradford Theatre, Max Wrigley, speak and he would confirm the details of this story.

    I get quite jealous when I hear about people finding God. The idea that, like a light bulb being switched on, your beliefs can change in an instant, and you suddenly have comfort and something to believe in. I just can't do that. I suppose it all boils down to your own personality whether you can do that or not and I really wish I could, but I just can't.

    • @petersnowdon6405

      Gary. I think your comment is so typical of how many people feel. They want something to happen but it seems beyond them. Whilst it really is a genuine mystery and a stumbling block, there is also a clear promise in the bible that if we call out to God he will answer us. However it is a great mistake to think that everyone has the same experience or that it is necessarily dramatic, like it was in Bobby's case. Nor should we assume knowing Jesus will solve all our problems. After I put this clip on I found out that Bobby had faced a lot of big challenges after his conversion incl near bankruptcy. All I can suggest is that God loves you, we are separated from God because of sin but Jesus came to be the bridge between us and God. If we respond to his love and ask him to come in to our lives and be our saviour he will in some way make himself real to you in a way that is very personal. Best wishes and thank you for your very perceptive comment. Peter

    Brilliant and inspirational speech. Is it possible to be a Christian without believing in heaven and hell?

      Kelvin. Sorry I have not replied earlier. That's quite a question and I will give you my opinion but don't take it as 'gospel'. I think too many people see Christianity as just ticking a load of boxes that you believe in. Actually it's about having a personal relationship with Jesus. In the early days of coming to faith it is quite likely that there are a lot of things in the creed that you are unable to believe in. As you come to develop your relationship with Christ then you start to work through some of these things and maybe get a different view. I would advise first and foremost concentrating on the main thing and not get too distracted about the exact nature of what you do or do not believe about heaven and hell. Although I may not totally agree with them, there are many Christians who cannot accept the idea that people go to hell because they feel that what Jesus did for them by dying on the cross applies to everyone and the love of God is so unconditional that he could never send anyone to hell. Others feel that the justice of God cannot let wrongdoing go unpunished. The only way to be really sure for oneself is to put one's trust in Jesus, to ask him to come into our lives and forgive us. Once you have opened the door to Christ it's surprising how you see things in a different light and some of these other questions get resolved. Nevertheless, I've been a christian now for a lot of years and I still have questions that are unanswered! Hope this helps a little bit in your quest. All I can say is that it is worth the questioning in order to find peace with God. Don't hesitate to get back to me if you feel this is helping and no questions are off limits. Kindest regards, Pete

    If you go to church and have been asked to take part in covert stalking of someone then refuse as this practise is against all God's teachings through Jesus Christ. It comes from the devil not God. It is Gang stalking and is about nothing more than bringing about the ruination of peoples lives. Rest in Peace Bobby, what a beautiful service.

      @@jamesgilbey4162 Yes it is a sin and no one excuses it - Bobby didn't - but if there is no forgiveness then we are all sunk. It must have been a great act of grace on Bobby's wife's side to stay together and many women would say they could never do that. In their case it seems that not only was there genuine repentance on Bobby's side but also a complete change of behaviour. It seems like they were both happy that they had stayed together. For me whilst not condoning Bobby's earlier behaviour it is an amazing story of the genuine way in which God can work in.a person's life no matter how despicably they have acted.

      @@petersnowdon6405 Mr Snowdon, we are all sunk anyway! Was it a great act of grace on Bobby's wife's side or just an acceptance of life style and greed? Most Women and rightly will never ever trust a man again after being cheated on just the once let alone in the words of Bobby 'Every night, work it out for yourselves' It's a great thing forgiveness but like respect you need to work and earn it. It was brave of him to share his story. It did surprise me though. After watching him on shows such as 'This is your life' where he was holding he's wife's hand throughout, it's really hard to believe a word that came out of his mouth.

    • @petersnowdon6405

      Let's assume he exists for a moment - but he/she has one drawback - invisibility and lack of a voice. So we can't communicate in the normal way. It may be true that we can see him in nature or even in other people or in loving acts but that's not the same as knowing him. When people say that they have 'found God' it's not because he has been absent but because they themselves haven't been 'tuned in', rather like tuning into a TV channel. All the channels are there but we need a receiver and some instructions. There are various barriers to this. First we may not know that God can be known in that way but once we do know that then it is usually our pride that stops us from acknowledging that we need him in our lives. It is that breaking down of the barrier on our side and 'asking him in to our lives' that is often what people mean by 'finding God'. It can happen in a huge variety of ways because God always treats us individually but the result is to have some kind of knowledge that we are now in touch with God. I forgot to mention the important bit which is that Jesus is the one who is the one who allows us to get in touch because he was the visible expression of an otherwise invisible God. I think that's more than enough for now! But your comment was very valid and I hope I might have given a poorish explanation.

    That was CRINGE!! I Loved Cannon and Ball back in the 80's but watching that was awful. You don't need Jesus or God or Allah to forgive you when you have been an unfaithful pisspot! You need to say sorry to the people on planet earth that you upset and hope they forgive you. Then you move on and try not to mess up again. It really is that easy, we are all 'sinners' at some point in life so if you are forgiven by the people you sinned and they forgive you then forgive yourself and enjoy life. Life is short, remember that. Peace.
