The Wife and I made a very difficult decision to sell our dream home that we built four years ago... and purchased a log cabin. We basically traded our dream house for our dream property. We gained a pond, equipment barn, and the new Spicer Designs Shop. All of this is placed on a beautiful 10 acre lot. Sometimes you just have to go for it! There will be more of these videos to come, so make sure you SUBSCRIBE so you can follow along. Thanks for watching!

18" overlap on my projects for rebar, but that could be jobs specs.... You dont have alot of concrete encased duct banks in your area? That tie wire will cut your forearms up good after a few days of Tying cages.... I know as an IBEW electrician, we fold our wire over and saddle all the splices, the steel guys laugh at us, but it doesn't fall apart!

    Idea 💡....
That attic storage dwindles down to nothing.... U could pack it with inso and use cutt off wood peices to sqaure up that angled dead space... Insuring the space doesnt go wasted.... Or build your self some angled storage bins full of once a year items like holiday shit.... Just so you dont lose storage space... Food for thought... "If im making any sense that is lol" its coming together. Tho Man. Keep up the great work 😉

I probably wont put too much up there because its only 2x6’s on 24” center. I dont want to take any chances. Will be perfect for large awkward items though. Sleds, kids inner tubes, crap like that. Thanks for the suggestion though.

That footer work looks pretty good to me! Thru my 60+ years of living and doing "stuff" for homes, my list of 'jobs I never ever ever want to do for a living' has concrete work right at the frickin top of the list. Followed closely by plumbing in tight spaces. Once, went and got a load of do it yourself concrete in a little tow behind mixer/trailer doohickey. The undersized Toyota pickup got stuck in the yard 50 yards from the project area. Naturally the concrete hardened up in the container quite nicely before I could get it out. Which meant an exhausting level of effort to chip and chisel it out so I could return the doohickey to the concrete merchants without being charged more than the house was worth. Maybe I should have used a Honda Ridgeline but they didn't make them back in 1985.

had a 30x20 to pour last year... thought it was small enough to be "real easy" because of course, youtube video look so much easy... they "pull" on the concrete and it looks effortless... WRONG this shit is heavy and it doesnt flow... at the end of the day i was half dead physically and mentally because of the stress (nah,,,i was 300% dead)... never ever be alone again lol hat off to you!

Getting old is for the birds. I truly feel your pain. I was very fortunate to retire at 50. Everything is still in good working order. Last year at 54 on June 14th. I woke up tired. Have been there ever since. But I too have a bit of the OCD. Not too bad, yet there. I would rather do it myself, and fail to the point of having to remove every thing done. Then to have someone else do it for me. Do your research ask questions of those that do. Listen with open ears and a sincere thank you. And move forward. Ever forward. On a different note, been retired for 5 years. Currently I’m 35 pounds lighter than back then. So get off your butt and do some stuff. Ahahahaha

Footings look good. You might want to consider moving that small attic access… squeezing in between that garage door track and the wall looks like it’s gonna be a PITA for future Kyle. Moving it near the elevator might prevent you from needing a ladder… or moving the ladder less distance. Pro tip!!

Honda Ridgeline - what a joke. At least nowadays they look more like a truck. Keep on movin’ - I’m 54 and have learned that when you slow down it’s difficult to get back into the swing of things. My Papa died at 94 and pretty much up to that day he was working on renovation projects for people, doing what he could. 160 pounds of twisted blue Italian steel is how he described himself - and he was totally correct.

Working with cement is way harder than you think. 2 out of 3 pours for me didnt go great especially when you do it yourself or have only 1 helper. One time I had to go to the hospital because I didnt have rubber boots on and I was standing in the concrete in sneakers and the chemicals ate through my skin on my ankles. I still have bad scars there. When I went to the hospital the nurses didnt believe me how it happened. I think they thought I was making Meth or something. lol

Hah! The smaller bed is pretty standard on the half ton crew cab. I bought it used so i didnt have much choice with the bed. I made a video a couple years ago with all the upgrades. I think its 2 in the front and 1 in the rear. So it has a 1” rake

    Couple questions.
Rebar should be encased in concrete, not driven into dirt to support other rebar. Rust jacking happens.
I noticed your osb sheathing is installed tight. Do you not leave a gap as per manufacturer instructions??

    • @SpicerDesignsLLC
