We’ve done so many water changes & substrate cleanings and filter cleanings, only to no effect. The tank only has two large Koi, nothing else. Hi, I just got a 37 gallon tank, and I bought a fluval aqua clear 110 filter for it. Do you think I will still need a wave maker? Was looking into a 1050gph wave maker. Same brand as your 1600gph.
do you need this if your tank is heavily planted? I have a LOT of live plants and the top is covered with floaters. I just added an air stone, but there is still not much movement at the top due to the floating plants. Are the plants making oxygen? Do I need to remove some of my floaters? My shrimpies just love them so, LOL
You have great videos and I love your fish. I just had Oscars only and decided to try the African Cichlids. I have two questions on this. How do you bring out the color of your fish? I changed over from rock to sand substrate and I can't my water clear. Do I need more water changes ? I tried 1 already and some fish died. I'm real nervous about the next one.
Fish color come out for multiple reasons, like genetics, diet, stress levels, water parameters...your fish shouldn’t die during water changes. Watch this playlist in African cichlids, should be helpful for you. ruclips.net/p/PLP5OXTIIDO8MG9hyJ8PjbC33zEbcyy8__
I have a 37 tall g tank. I have a bubble wall, a sponge filter, as well as a bubble waterfall feature. It seems most my agitation is at the back of the tank. So I got a wave maker yesterday 270 gph I believe Aqueon. My Danios and my Cory's didn't seem to mind it much but my dwarf flame gourami started hiding..till I found him laying on his side and then just looking in bad shape. I took the wave maker out and next morning he was still restless but looking vibrant again. I feel it stressed him out greatly. But still noticing he seems to dart to the surface more than usual and at times seems to gasp. Was wondering if a smaller rated wave maker would work, or would some sort of bubbler set in the front of the tank would help? Tank is only 12" wide so thought it be enough agitation with the amount bubbler I have but the front if the tank is as still as a deer in headlights.
I have a 10 gallon planted tank with a lot of Java ferns, it’s a betta sorority with 6 bettas. How should I oxygenate the tank. I was thinking just under filling it with water so that the filter will create a lot of flow.
I assume you have an HOB, then yes the water splashing back into tank will oxygenate the water. You could also add a small sponge filter that will also add oxygenation as well as mechanical and biological filtration - Check it out here - ruclips.net/video/lSzgK731woI/видео.html
Hi Kev! First time fish owner here. I've really been enjoying your videos and your fish are beautiful! So I bought some glofish and I have a Fluval Flex 9 gallon tank. My fish definitely is lacking oxygen. They keep coming to the top, opening/closing their mouths really fast, and they aren't eating well. Besides buying a stone, what else can I do?
I have a question, I just put a power head in the tank pointed at the surface in a 40 gallon bowfront but the fish still gasp for air. What did I do wrong
They could be stressed for other reasons. Make sure your tank is cycled and theres no ammonia or nitrite in it. If you're new to the hobby I highly suggest you check out my playlist for beginners. It'll be very helpful for you 😁 - ruclips.net/p/PLP5OXTIIDO8NYvhUHAmwAd54WFmS4d8er
What’s up kev hope u enjoying your weekend.? Can I put two wave-maker at the bottom of my tank and two at the top I have a 75 gallon once again thx u for your help
@@KaveManAquatics well I'm running a 307 and 407 in my 55 gallon peacock which I will be transferring to a 75 or 125 (I'll have a fx6 also when I transfer) by the end of March. My outputs won't bend upward unless I put them close to surface of water. Plus I have a sunsun 800 gph wave maker like you had on your 75 gallon. But that is pointed towards the surface for the agitation. Without that wave maker, I get dead spots.
Hi Kev has always been a big fan of your detail explanation (keep it up man✌️), may i know whether a big splash (like from the top filter or drip box may cause swim bladder problems for any fish(goldfish) as it may directly splash on them causing them to flip upside down or pushing them away (pressured)?
No, water flow doesn't cause swimblader disease in goldfish. It is more complicated than that. many factors like bacterial infection, or internal parasites, but most likely low fiber nutrition. The more fancy the more prone to it. Try feeding vegetables like peas and spinach, lettuce or gel food. You can even make your own gel food from powdered goldfish food and gelatin. Search for instructions on RUclips.
Hi. KEV. Very nice video, and lovely tank.I fallow your videos and you done great. Thanks for the tips. I have South American Chichlids on my tank 550 litres. WHAT wave maker power do I need,to be enough oxigen on my thank.Much appreciate.
Thanks Kevin I like your videos it has helped me a lot because of it I just bought fluval 407 I do have Is the fluval fx6 But I want to downgrade thank you again
@@KaveManAquatics umm the video didn’t answer my question .....if I don’t have a wave make at all would a fan that is placed at the top the the aquarium ( not in the water ) provide the surface agitation like the breeze does to the ocean ??
@@jayalbert9849 you said “or a wavemaker” I read that as you asking if a wavemaker would work. A fan won’t create the waves a wave maker will. You won’t get even close to the surface agitation a power head or wavemaker could make.
No it does not harm the nitrogen cycle, it promotes it. Yes it does detoxify ammonia, it doesnt remove it. The ammonia is still in the tank for beneficial bacteria to feed on. Heres a great video for you on the topic - ruclips.net/video/9Cuqylaak3E/видео.html
That depends on many things. Tank size, type of fish, how many fish, your maintenance schedule....watch this entire playlist and you may get a good idea of what you need - ruclips.net/p/PLP5OXTIIDO8NYvhUHAmwAd54WFmS4d8er
I have a 5g tank and am ready to upgrade to a 10g. I have one guppy that is gasping for air but I already have an air stone, aquaclear filter and my ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are 0 as of right now. Amazon sells nano wave makers I see and was considering it for my new tank due to my current problem, but not sure yet if its necessary or if a bigger tank should do the trick.
A bigger tank is always better, IMO. But a wavemaker is too powerful for a 10. I recommend a min of 30G for a wavemaker. Something is wrong with your testing because you should not have 0 nitrates.
@@KaveManAquatics long time for reply. After said that I took a sample to get tested and luckily everything was fine at 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and 10 nitrate. I went again on the next testing time and vigorously shaked my bottles for a full minute and got more accurate results. Never had that problem but lesson learned😔
Hello sir, I am Suryakant Kalunkhe from Mumbai India As u said earlier in ur videos about crystal clear water need a good wave maker , to rotate water, sir I am planning for discuss fish so can I put a wave maker in tank.

I have angel fish and I just put The wave maker on how long does it take for your fish to get used to the wave maker? They seem to be nervous going to the bottom of the aquarium
Awesome video! Thanks! Got a question. Ever had to deal with brown algae? (Diatoms) I’m going nuts. Doing water changes, clean off the rocks and plants. Do glass scrub, and now I’m trying PhosGuard for two weeks and not helping. I have more now. Fish keeping for over 1 year, got a 75 gallon community tank for 1 catfish, 3 rainbows, 2 Gold Gourami, 2 bleeding heart tetras and 3 blue zebra Danios. All less then 3 inches long. Any info would be great.. thanks
Brown Algae is tough to deal with. First thing I’d say is get a pleco, or 2 if you have that much. They are great algae eaters. Next basic steps to attack algae is to limit your lights to only a few hours a day and limit your feeding. Excess food and phosphates in the water will feed the algae...hope this helps.
Thanks, well I keep african Cichlids and they require brackish water, if thats what you mean. Check out the video on african cichlids where I cover how to raise PH. ruclips.net/video/vD3aL5ONwzo/видео.html Also, I have a new video coming soon specifically on PH, keep an eye out 😊

Dear Sir, I have 90 gal tank with 15 cichlid & nearly 50 fries of 1 inch size in breeding net hanged in same tank, I am facing problem of low oxygen in tank for that I have added 5 air stones in tank & one wave maker for cleaning sand substrate also for surface agitation, but still I saw my fishes some time taking fast breath specially after feed. Plz guide me what can be the problem in my tank, 1 point this issue starts from last month when I changed substrate from gravel to sand before with gravel there was no issue of low oxygen only 3 air stone used no wave maker. Now some time fishes looks OK but again start fast breathing also stay on air bubbles.
Test your water. You may have disturbed the nitrogen cycle by changing substrate. If you have Ammonia or nitrite in your tank your fish can get gill damage which makes it difficult to breathe.
@@KaveManAquatics Dear sir I have checked water with API Master Test kit, High Range pH= 8.1, Ammonia= 0ppm, Nitrite= 0ppm but Nitrate = 80 or may be 70 ppm as i changed water on 30 Oct so tomorrow I shall change water. I think u r rite may be ammonia or nitrite spike came when i changed substrate on 20th Sep 2020. Now i have 2 issue ist what i do for fishes gill can u plz tell me medicine. 2nd big issue Nitrate in my tank were above 40 ppm even after changing 40 % water weekly with gravel then i changed to sand but Nitrate still high even more. It mean gravel was not issue then what's issue i could not understand plz help me if u can, how to reduce nitrate.
@@NewAquariumHobby only water changes can reduce nitrates. If they are still high after a water change wait 2 days and do another bigger water change. I do 80% water changes because my tank is over stocked. If you have a lot of fish you need to do bigger and more frequent water changes.
@@KaveManAquatics Sir if we hv to change water more then why we use filters with sponges, bio balls, K1 media, ceramic beads & lot of things. Today i added 40 drops of General Cure All medicine for gills issue, let see.
Do bubbles HAVE TO POP (BREAK THE SURFACE) for the (carbon dioxide-oxygen exchange) to occur? Or just the fact of the surface (MOVING) creates the “exchange”?
Great question, its the surface moving, The pop at the top from the bubbles makes the water move. Thats also why a wavemaker is great for surface agitation. Theres no pop, just movement 😁
Hey Kev quick question, you've stated in other videos that you run your wave makers 24/7 - 365. However I see time to time your also running an air-stone. Just maintaining a redundant system or something else?
My African clawed from which is only about the size of a half dollar bod wise just ate one of my 1" 1/2 mangino chichlids wondered where they were going just caught the culprit in the act
You just need a current, not loads of surface aggitation. As o2 is lost it will get replaced as the water mixes, same with co2. It will match the surrounding environment and it depends on the minerals etc in the water itself. It's actually really hard to change water chemistry and make it stick. It's more important to get water from the bottom up to the surface as gas exchange only happens at the surface (usually done by the filter which is why the intake is always low down and the outlet near the top). Also many fish do not like lots of movement on the surface.
Great video man. Quick question about your fish, are those haps & peacocks or mbunas? I thought I seen a convict and a blood parrot as well but was confused because those aren’t Africans. Help me understand what you got there haha. Thanks
No Mbunas, just Peas and Haps. I do also keep 1 Blood Parrot with them that does super well. Blood Parrots do well in up to 8.0 PH and depending on the individual's fish aggression, it can work. Check this out - ruclips.net/video/7FQoNp5EO0I/видео.html
Hey, back with a question. I purchased the wave maker and the circulation powerhead pump that you have. I also purchased the bio sponge filter. I currently have a regular filter inside until i do my water change today. Now you know that I have a 55G tank, my question is, is it okay to have all of these surface agitation devices at once? (I hope that made sense) lol
The air that you bubble through the water via an airpump and airstone contains 21 % of oxygen! Gas exchange always occur at the water/air interface. Thus, by inserting millions of gas bubbles in your water tank you also increase the surface for gas exchange, and the smaller the bubbles, the higher the gas exchange surface. While the air bubbles travel through the tank, oxygen and CO2 can dissolve in the water. But no matter how long you keep pumping air through your tank, the equilibrium concentrations of oxygen (9 ppm) and CO2 (5 ppm) in water will never be exceeded. It is thus not just surface agitation that increases the gas exchange between atmosphere and water but also the bubbles themselves travelling through the tank!
@dirty1clean the wave maker is good, I use it, too. But it's not suitable for fish that cannot deal with high water flow (e.g. fish babies). In such cases an air stone workshop well.
My 2 sobo wave maker have killed 4 tropical fishes by sucking them in 😫as I didn’t knew That every time when I plugged out wave maker plug to feed my fishes after plugging in it rotated in sucking mode as by that when I was sleeping 2 wave makers sucked 4 in including 1 male 2 female Betta n 1 molly 🙈🙈so now I m going for Jebao wave maker CP 90 😭

Hey dude, hope your well Just a quick question. On one of my tanks, the surface agitation is pretty decent. I'm running an internal and external filter on this tank.. Each outlet is on either side of the tank. But I keep getting this oily film on the surface and I can't seem to get rid of it.. Any advice for what I can do.. Doing a water change today aswell as cleaning the internal filter and going to try not to feed as much from now on to see if it makes a difference lol. And on my other tank the water agitation is perfect and I have no issues with that tank whatsoever 🤔🤔
At some point you could have added something to the tank that created that oil. A certain food or a new piece of decor...Water changes will eventually get it out but it will take time.
@@KaveManAquatics everything I use decor wise it's stuff I already have or have used in the past.. Nothing really new has been added besides some plastics plants last month or so.. But I had the oil surface before they were added.. A good clean out seems to have done the trick for now.. Well for today anyways lol... But thank you, appreciate the advice my dude!!!.. But I will look into if it is something that I have added into the tank
Sorry to hear that. I know it may seem that way. But whats more likely is he died and the current brought him to the wave maker were he stayed stuck on.

Hi,
I just got a 37 gallon tank, and I bought a fluval aqua clear 110 filter for it. Do you think I will still need a wave maker? Was looking into a 1050gph wave maker. Same brand as your 1600gph.
What's a good mini wave maker for 10gal
10 gallons is too small for a wave maker.
do you need this if your tank is heavily planted?

I have one goldfish in a 29 gal tank. How can I oxygenate my tank?
Just ordered a freesea for my goldfish (:
I’m starting a 125 g tank what type of wave maker will I need?
I use the Ecotech MP40 now. Find it in my shop 😁 Koji.to/kaveman_aquatics
Thats all you will need. The airstone is going to dramatically improve the oxygen in the tank. But get it in ASAP!
@Kavemanaquatics ,hey Ken why don't you have South, or Central American Cichlids tanks setup??
Because I like having only 1 fish tank lol But...I’ve been considering a second...🤔

Since having a fx6 on this particular 75 tank at the time, did you have the output flow valve opened all the way or have it at half way position?
Opened all the way. Africans love the flow 😁
@@KaveManAquatics and did you have any issues with substrate blowing around when the valve was wide open?
Not at all. Make sure your outputs are angled upwards to create surface agitation. They shouldnt be pointing down towards the substrate.
I wish I could show you the setup lol

Hey can I put a nano wave maker in my 55 gallon angel tank
Angels arent going to like much current
So could u like take a fan and put it at the top of the aquarium to make the surface agitation if u don’t have a power head. ?? Or wave maker?
Yes, a wave maker. Watch this - ruclips.net/video/-GxwWc_riuA/видео.html
Can seachem prime with stability affect the nitrogen cycle cause ive heard prime detoxifies ammonia instantly so theres no ammonia for bacteria

Hey kev.
Does surface agitation raise or lower the PH? and What about at night time when lights goes off?
It has very little effect on PH. At night you still need the same amount of surface agitation. They need oxygen in the tank 24/7

Can there be too much surface agitation in the tank I think I have too much it’s messing my plants and fish
Never too much surface agitation. But you can have to much flow/current. If the fish can’t swim freely it’s too much
Awesome video!
KaveMan Aquatics i would have to agree I bought some awesome shrimp that are known for being monster algae eater and they made a big difference.
Jr cell - I have a Ralphal catfish. Think he’ll bother the shrimps?
Richard Velez I would say yes but it also depends on the fish buy one or two cheap ones and see how he does around them.
So glad I found you. I sub'd immediately! How many wave maker would you recommend for a 55gal tank? I already have two airstones
Thanks for the Sub! Start out with 1 and see how your guys like the flow. If they seem to enjoy it then you can add a second on the other side.

Now some time fishes looks OK but again start fast breathing also stay on air bubbles.
Test your water. You may have disturbed the nitrogen cycle by changing substrate. If you have Ammonia or nitrite in your tank your fish can get gill damage which makes it difficult to breathe.

Does wave maker give fishes oxygen
Hey Kev quick question, you've stated in other videos that you run your wave makers 24/7 - 365. However I see time to time your also running an air-stone. Just maintaining a redundant system or something else?

My African clawed from which is only about the size of a half dollar bod wise just ate one of my 1" 1/2 mangino chichlids wondered where they were going just caught the culprit in the act
Hey man, how do i know as to how much surface agitation is required
As long as your fish arent hanging out at the top, gasping for air, you're good 👍
You just need a current, not loads of surface aggitation.
Check this out - ruclips.net/video/7FQoNp5EO0I/видео.html
can i have blood parrots with frotosa
I have one with mine. But it's not a common mix, and not easy to do.
Absolutely, can’t do any harm by having too much surface agitation. More oxygen always better than less 😊
Certain fish such as Bettas need less water movement at the surface.
I need help with my tank can you help me . I have fish dieing
I hope I can...how can I help?
It is thus not just surface agitation that increases the gas exchange between atmosphere and water but also the bubbles themselves travelling through the tank!
i got a long air stone bar set up in my 130L with it turned on so what does that mean bro ^^
And… so is it the wave maker good or bad?
@dirty1clean the wave maker is good, I use it, too. But it's not suitable for fish that cannot deal with high water flow (e.g. fish babies). In such cases an air stone workshop well.
@@LJ.420 it means that you will always have good aeration and sufficient oxygen in your tank.

Just a quick question.
