Who needs a huge house with marble and gold fixtures when you can have a cozy, calming place like this... not me for sure! I would take this beautiful house over any mansion any day. Love it! ❤️
@@Aliciaek we raised our seven kids and helped raise a couple others in our 1,365 sq ft home. We homeschooled five of them too so our home was always full. Besides being small, our house has a terrible floorplan. Not open at all but we converted the two car garage into two bedrooms, had average so the kids had tons of room to play outside, and bought a 60 ft mobile building to use as a classroom with a separate playroom inside.
Damn Karen, Rick didn't say you were a magician. The house is beautiful. I loved everything you did, especially adding a second bedroom. You took a tiny house and glamorized it. Well done. Thank you for sharing.
It’s beautiful now. Love the decor. I love a small home. I love a polished concrete. In Tennessee it’s not a big hit. But this Tennessee girl likes them. The perfect size kitchen. I love a 10x 10. With nice appliances. I am thinking about blue tiles in my kitchen. I bought a small country home three yrs ago. Been slowly making it my own. And you can do quality in a small space without going over your budget. Love the guest room. It’s perfect. I want to do the exact same thing with the twin beds in our cabin lake house. To serve two purposes. This was awesome Karen ! Leslye
She really had the vision for a little diamond in the rough. Great job. And your interviews are fun. Thanks for being a bright spot during the quarantine.
I've never heard of Joshua Tree. But I like the name. I also like that she created a second bedroom that can also be a hangout space. I'm a reader. So I instantly imagined myself just sitting there with a lot of comfy pillows around me and reading a good book. Ideally I would have liked to see a separate tub and shower. But there wasn't space for that. That house was desperately in need of some love and attention. And she made a lot of improvements. She did a great job.
Los Angeles and Hollywood has long been a magnet for some of the most creative people in the world. But it's also a business. So, when they need to "get away" they come to Joshua Tree. It's why you see Joshua Trees in the background of so many movies TV shows and adverts. The main attraction is Joshua Tree National Park, established in 1936.
Love every aspect of this desert home. You maximized the space and gave it the illusion of being larger than it really is with large windows, lighting, etc. The decor is great too. I think you must have saved a lot of money by merely polishing the cement floors instead of alternative floor options. Really nice final result!
I looks great! There is not enough storage with out upper cabinets. You can make having open shelves in the kitchen sound like a great idea but it is messy and everything gets dusty! Overall you did a good job on a low budget. I love the desert.
Very pretty. I love the stove/oven! I think the only thing that I would change to stage better would be the plumbing in the bathroom. Maybe spray paint it to match the faucet?
Nice do over... however would miss the big overhang roof, not only for in season in out living but they also help keep the house cool and protect the house during monsoon season.
I'd love to know what it cost, now to own? My brother sold a property out there and made a nice profit. He's living off grid in AZ now. His needed a bit of work but had great bones too.
These new lockdown videos are good but I really miss the old houzz videos with professional shots where I can feel like I'm touring the house. Ugh pandemic 😣
This is a nice rehab. But not installing upper cabinets was definitely a cost-saving measure. Houses are always more desirable with substantial storage.
Does anyone know how the plumbing and water supply works out in the desert? I’m not from that region, so I’m not familiar if homeowners have to tap into a pre-existing water main source or if you have to dig wells, etc.?? Just curious, if anyone knows. Thx!
The space is much improved. Love the white kitchen appliances, but the choice of the blue geometric backsplash tile is clashing with the calm vibe of the rest of the kitchen.
my kentucky home is one level on a concrete slab. the concrete is covered with hardwood and carpet. so can we take all that up and “polish” the concrete? is it as simple as that? any tips/ideas will be so appreciated!
If the slab is in a bad state you could consider applying a polythene damp proof membrane over and pouring a fresh 2" concrete topping which can have a aggregate that will polish up beautifully. I worked for Phase IV contractors in Lexington for a while. Contact them.
This is great, but oh god the cracked grout at the bottom of the kitchen backsplash. Somebody's gonna' have a nasty surprise later if that doesn't get fixed.
It looks beautiful, but no storage. Where does your food processor go, your mixer, your stock pots, your toaster, your instant pot, colanders, on and on...any time you see these houses with open shelves they just have a few pretty plates, wine glasses and knick-knacks displayed, but no real kitchen devices. Obviously these people don't cook. And that's fine. But for those of us that do, these kitchens won't work. Everything's not just about how a space looks and photographs, some of us care about how it actually functions. Plus open shelves collect dust. I've had them, I'll never have them again.
I don't get why you would cover that great floor with rugs. They are NOT easy to clean. The polished concrete is easy to clean. The dining room chairs especially should be able to slide on the floor. Pitch the rugs.
This designer is not a cook. The bottom cabinets in the kitchen should be drawers, not having doors at all; they’re much more efficient to use. If she wants to design a better kitchen to cook in, she should do some movement studies. Also, when one cooks, oil and water fly up and coat everything on those open shelves, and coat that macrame mirror frame!!😮 That’d be a nightmare to clean! In my small kitchen, all are drawers except below the sink, and I have no upper shelves or cabinets at all, except around the microwave and refrigerator. I left them as deeper storage; they’re from the 1930s. I have enough storage in my kitchen.

Me, me...I want a big house, we living in a bi-level ranch is too small for my family....4 children, plus my in laws, 2 dogs, 2 cats....

This is built-over not make-over!!! Wooow! Simply amazing 😍
Love this house. Love the desert look, no matter where it is. She did a great job.
Good for her! We drive thru Joshua Tree quite often & there are so many houses that need TLC! Who would "thumbs down" this?!?

The designer seems very nice and down to earth - lovely!

Adorable little home concrete slab floors keeps it cooler in the summer and easy to maintain

I love spaces that are homey, comfortable and fresh, so tick, tick and tick.
This must be the best before and after ever.
I really really enjoy this series and the host is charming and well versed in the renos featured

Such a great job! The home looks so comforting and comfortable, and perfect for the desert.
How i luv this the dry desert sunny climate and a small house like this !!
I’m in love with this home 🙏🏿
This is so cute and practical!! It’s a space I can see myself in! Got a lot of ideas.
Love Joshua Tree and the drive up there. We lived in 29Palms and drove through Joshua Tree ..miss the views for sure. Lovely home 👏

I love this house!
I live in Joshua Tree and hipsters from LA flood this place every weekend. Which is totally cool.
Gorgeous remodel
Wow, BEAUTIFUL!!❤ If only
Very well done!
You're home is amazing! I love it
Rick Spence is looking good! I like the house too.
She accidentally says “shub tower” instead of “tub shower” and it made me smile
Love this house
She's good!
So beautiful. The only thing missing is a laundry room. Would be wonderful...love this!!!
Hi Gretchen, you'll be happy to know there is a laundry closet with stackables, just wasn't much to showcase in terms of video
Very pretty. I love the stove/oven! I think the only thing that I would change to stage better would be the plumbing in the bathroom. Maybe spray paint it to match the faucet?
Beautiful
Lovely place.
😍 REALLY NICE
This is awesome!
Beautiful 😍
Luv the design
Super cute house
I love it!
This is definitely a beautiful home...
#houzzgoals
Love this, wish it were mine!
Well done! Tip: Next project consider louvered doors for bedroom closet. Adds another layer of texture and charm inexpensively. Cheers!
great design with function well done. Almost a tiny home. lol
👍😍🙋⛺
Feels very French
Love it:)
Nice!
I enjoyed that

Do you have a shopping link for the entrance door? it looks amazing.

That would make me a perfect Fernando's hide-away. But I am sure the price is shocking. Great job!

I really want to see the work crew!!!!
Love the remodel! Looking to remodel a place in Joshua Tree and flooring will be the first improvement. Can you recommend a contractor? Thanks!

Hi - any chance someone can tell where the bed frame is from? Really liked it. Thanks!
Urban Outfitters
Looks great! Why didn’t you fix the fireplace pad, it’s still nicked up even though you painted it, couldn’t you have covered it with cement?
How much did you pay for the house. And then the remodel?
whoa

I didn't see any views? Or great landscape
Beautifully done, except kitchen tile is hideous.
I wonder if water is easily accessible in there. Knowing, it's a desert.
If they have the money they can dig a well. There is water because there are the palm trees.
err ... what established landscape?
Nice house but I saw what those little houses are going for. Crazy money
Nice house. Location. Mmmm
This is great, but oh god the cracked grout at the bottom of the kitchen backsplash. Somebody's gonna' have a nasty surprise later if that doesn't get fixed.
Fab … it suits the house. If you tried to overdo that house it would not work.
This house is very stylish. The perfect little getaway for a cool couple. But the picture in the bedroom is an awful style.
I thought the same, it seemed very out of place.
Would rather have an adobe or earthen

very nice.but carpet in a bathroom is a no no
Looks great but, there is ZERO storage.
All it takes is money.
And plenty of it.
Concrete floors, not cement. Cement is only one ingredient in concrete. Now you know. :)
👍🏿❤️😍

Meh. Not "blown away". I was expecting something special. Looks like a very basic flip. Way too many furnishings. Looks cluttered.
Any simmer in here?
