That is one of the dumbest things general motors did was to discontinue their cars to give up all that market share. When gas hits $6 a gallon everybody will want a car not an SUV

@@davewoodmancy5124 Nature of the auto industry is they need to keep the assembly plants busy. Selling to fleets at breakeven makes sense if the can avoid huge cuts at retail.

Ford ties GM with cancelling the Fusion. They both should be applying brains and technology to make these cars more reliable, with better fuel economy, easier to service (no buried servo motors, etc.), and less costly. The new SUV stands for short ugly van. These new SUVs are mini vans with hoods. An SUV that stands for sport utility vehicle is a station wagon body on a pickup frame; a 1978 Chey Suburban was an SUV.

here is what happens when most of your cars are sold to fleets. They keep them for a year and then dump them on the used market which makes it harder to sell new ones when you can get a gently used one for a lot cheaper. So dealers have to mark down in order to move them which makes them not want to carry it.

It seems that GM noticed that a lot of Blazer EV buyers were Bolt owners. Selling an affordable car that people would later trade up and stay with the same company used to be common.

It is the same mistake again when GM discontinued the Malibu back in 1983. After many of their loyal customers complained they decided to bring it back in 1998. Now they are killing it again. For a sedan Chevrolet will not offer anything on their website now. Go look at Toyota's website, and you will see several sedan offerings. Now Chevrolet will look like Buick with only SUV offerings. GM just bought out a lot of Buick franchises because they did not want to invest the money to convert over to electric vehicles. Not everybody wants an electric vehicle. What about those people who live off grid, and those who do extended traveling?

Cars, vehicles in general, don't hold the allure they did a generation ago. My nephew drives some kind of a 10 year old Scion. He pumps all his discretionary income into computers and stuff like that. And he comes from a family of gear heads. He grew up around cars, trucks, dirtbikes, snowmobiles, and heavy equipment.
It's the prices, I think, that are making him and his friends not care.

Chevy needs to keep the Malibu. It serves well as an economical unglamorous vehicle for an American auto manufacturer. Same with the Bolt. It's popular with Lyft/Uber drivers and serves well as an affordable EV transportation.

Its just kind of sad and pathetic that the three domestics makes have basically given up the midsize sedan market to the Asian brands. They're not even trying. Meanwhile Toyota, Honda, Hyundai and Kia are selling hundreds of thousands of them each year.

This may be everyone’s last chance to get a brand new American FWD sedan in their lifetime. Because many European and Asian brands offer a number of cheap FWD sedans here in America and many Americans, on the other hand, prefer SUVs over sedans, it is unlikely that any American brand will ever offer a FWD sedan again in the near future. After this, the only American sedan options will be the Cadillac CT4 and CT5, both of which are RWD with optional AWD. The only upcoming sedan hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it’s possible as Ford has recently officially announced the possibility of a 4-door sedan variant of the Mustang and it’ll most likely be RWD-only, since it’ll most likely use a slightly lengthened version of the same platform as the current Mustang which is RWD-only as the Interceptor concept from 2007 did that. So this is it everyone, your last chance to get an American FWD sedan, exactly what was dominant in the 1980s and thus reminiscent of those times. If you want one, get it while you still can!

GM has made many mistakes in the last decade 🤣. Malibu has always been a good seller much like the Ford Fusion. The automaker’s just don’t care. It’s all about CUVs and SUVs that all look the same but boost more profits. Tak on the “EV shove it down your throat” agenda and a lot of decent somewhat reliable vehicles will continue to die.

    • @DeadAir21

The Malibu isn’t making them any real money. Like he said in the video most of these Malibus were sold to fleets and they don’t pay retail for those units. And here is what happens when most of your cars are sold to fleets. They keep them for a year and then dump them on the used market which makes it harder to sell new ones when you can get a gently used one for a lot cheaper. They did it to themselves. Why buy a Chevy Malibu, with no reputation for reliability or Camry or Accord with legendary reliability? a small 4 cyl American car with a notorious reputation for bad quality. Or a Corolla..... people are getting a Corolla.
Among EVs, Chevy has a better reputation. The Bolt battery buyback helped. In Uber/Lyft. The EUV is roomy and cheap to operate and buy. esp if you can charge at home
