  • I get asked often, if God loves me, why would he send me (anyone) to hell. Well, he won’t, hell is our choice, and this often comes from a misunderstanding of Gods mercy.

God is a person with a gun pointed at your head. “Hell” is them pulling the trigger. “Salvation” is them not. As the hostage, you either “love and worship” the person with the gun for all eternity, with blind obedience, and live, or you’ve “forced” them to kill you. That’s the choice the religious has postulated. Does it sound like a free choice?

This video came at the right time for me... Yet, there´s a few dangers here and I´m having trouble balancing them out: the first is having mercy become a license for relativism. "Everything you do is OK because God will have your back" kind of attitude. The other danger is being so forgiving of oneself that you mistake your own permissivity with God´s mercy. This can practically become an abolition of the pursuit of holiness. Treading the path between these excesses is the narrow way indeed... Hard to do. Hope yall succeed brothers and sisters. Please pray for me, God bless!

Great point and very true, we must never take Gods mercy for granted. The two things I believe God looks for in us is we must be truly sorry (a humble and contrite heart), and a firm resolve to turn away from our sin. Thanks for the comment.

That implies that we have the agency over our decisions to avoid doing wrong. It’s a perspective that conveniently ignores the effects of one’s personal experiences, genetics, culture, etc on their own decision making. It implies that all action comes from a place of knowing and understanding and that every human knows when they’re doing wrong.
The path to hell is paved with good intentions, but how does an average person separate good intentions from absolute good? How does one achieve a level of consciousness that could bring about awareness of the effects our actions have on others?
Hell to me is like the boogie man. A tale told to keep us in line. A truly loving and altruistic god wouldn’t need to threaten us with an eternity of torture. Hell doesn’t exist on some separate plane. It is here. We create it.

there are 4 words translated as "hell" in the Bible, 2 in the O.T and 2 in the new. In the O.T the words are "Ghenna" and Sheol. Ghenna was a place outside JerUSAlem where they would burn their refuse and occasionally the body of a dead criminal who had no one to see to his remains. Sheol means the grave/place of darkness. In the N,T the words are Hades which is also a place of the dead/grave and the last is Tartaroos meaning a place of restraint where satan is. there is no fire in the grave, only in the lake of fire at the end which is reserved for satan and his demons but if you chose to go, you go.

Here are my thoughts; is hell a merciful decision to create? God is merciful, yes, under the premise of the pre-existing conditions that he has created. I can also be called a merciful man for not beating my cat to death, if it was something actually considerable to me. So my question is, is sending a temporal being into an ocean of infinite pain for all eternity a merciful thing, no matter the conditions? Even if the being begs to be thrown in there I question whether it would be a merciful thing to agree and let it happen. Note that I am a devout Christian now becoming Catholic, and despite all of my incredible experiences with God these thoughts still linger at the back of my head.

Amen man, and welcome aboard. There is much debate on this as Im sure you are aware. The way I look at it is like the child who rejects his mother. The mother has her arms open wide to the child no matter what he has done, but the child continues to reject her. If he dies, he dies in a state of separation from his mother. She is devastated. And as much as it kills her, she holds his freedom.

Im a recent Catholic convert myself and I often have the same type of questions. Here´s what helped me so far: Thomas Aquinas and many other doctors of the Church would define evil, not as something positive, but as something negative, the lack of something. In this light, we can´t say God "created" hell. Hell is the result of rejecting the good things that are from God.
Also, hell may be thought of as a place of suffering, but Tradition also understands it as a state of the soul. The catechism itself uses this language. This makes a lot more sense to me. You are not "sent" somewhere. That place is within you. If a man feels that his wife is "distant" though they live under the same roof, it doesn´t mean that she is literally at a greater geographical distance from him. This distance is a spiritual distance, it´s all in the heart.
God is like a universal tuning fork and we are like strings that need to be tuned into that frequency - except instead of sound, the frequency is love and forgiveness. When we arrive on the other side, we may be out of tune. If we don´t care about tuning ourselves to God and we just want to go our way and play our own song, that´s hell. It´s a state of our souls, which is not the result just of what we do, but of the decision to reject God in our hearts.
The last thing I´d like to say, and which really made me click, is this: God created us out of love, and He wants us to love Him back and be united with him. Now, love can only be voluntary. You can´t force someone to love. That´s implied in the very nature of love. Love is only truly love as long as it´s freely given. This is why freedom is the whole reason why we were created. If the whole point is love, the whole point is freedom. If we don´t have freedom to reject God, we don´t have freedom to love Him either. Which makes hell a necessary consequence of the whole equation.
What I´m struggling with right now is understanding what it means for the suffering to be "eternal". It can´t mean "every day forever", since time as we perceive it now will probably be perceived differently when we´re dead or resurrected. It might be some sort of endless present moment, a changeless state. I´m still searching for clues regarding this.
Hopefully something I said was helpful, cheers and God bless you my friend.

In loving relationship, the relationship cant work through force. God loves us enough to let us make our own choices and gives us an option to be with him. We have to make that choice God... or not. Love is something that is freely given by free will. With out free will we cant love, we would be just robots. God lets us learn to love who he is or hate him... and if you hate him then you love evil as the bible says. People who love evil can dwell in evil forever AKA, Hell.

God is there, everything points to him existing, and the evidence for Christ's reliability is outstanding. It gets really hard sometimes, but use that doubt to research and study further, and build that faith that you know you have for God.
Others will tell you that he doesn't exist, so just don't worry about it, yet they have no true meaning, nothing matters in the end in their view, it's merely ignorance and pride in stuff they know very little about, I warn you to keep away from falling into those pits.

So, eternal torture, torment and inconmensurable pain are mercy?
Because hell its just not “bein away from god” its all theese things, that is what is written there in the bible, just for not believing ?
What if you are a good person and just dont want to believe because you súffered from this religion
What if you dont believe because this religion says nonsense like “hey dont get a tattoo” or “ hey dont be gay just because i say so, do it or youll go to hell “
    Really?

Punishing someone so unproportionally, so unfairly just for small stuff like that?

The best way I was told to deal with it in my opinion, is just that you have to understand that some people are out to hate, sometimes because they are mad at you or they are just generally mad at their life. It is really tough when you are trying your best to be kind but sometimes it is for the best to ignore them, weather its phyical or verbal it definitly isn't fair and I really hope the best for you. * The whole you cannot have love without mercy. Could you provide evidence to support this conclusion? Otherwise I disagree as I love my friends without needing mercy and I love my parents without having mercy. Due to this it appears it is possible to love without mercy.
    * To the question, would I forgive me? My response is, to what do I have to ask myself for forgiveness for?
    * After thinking how merciful God is, I find myself being more merciful than it. I would be so merciful I would not ask my followers for animal sacrifice, I would not instruct them to commit genocide, to legislate the treatment of others as property, to harm another man to satisfy a bet, I would not ask another to pay for the bad deeds of others. As to it being perfect, see above.
    * I firmly believe that I do not get to choose what I believe. Either something meets my internal level of evidence or it does not. If the bible is to be taken as fact, then it is God who made it this way. It is God who required me to need this level of evidence for my belief. If it is never provided then God in all his mercy made me for the purpose of suffering in hell. For some reason that does not seem merciful at all.

If one was to go to Hell by his own choices, pushing away God; if he was to realize his mistakes and ask for God’s mercy and forgiveness while in the depths of Hell, would God save him? Is Hell only Eternal to the extent that we turn away from God?

I'll be honest with you, I was barely tought God growing up as a kid.
Of course I grew up hearing about God or Jesus every now and again along with saying grace at dinner but..God wasnt really the biggest part of the picture in my life. Just someone who was there and was inconsequential to me...and I think that was the biggest mistake of all.
Im at a point where for the past 2 weeks, I've been trying to cram in as much information thats in Christianity and Catholicism and the words of John 3:16 ring in my ears with how beautiful it is...but theres a problem
Ive heard about sin and ive tried to stop (with help from the holy spirit of course) cursing, doing the 5-knuckle-shuffle, listening to music that ive been told isnt pleasing to God and this God that I hear of..
The God of love and mercy...thats not the God I've found myself believing in..
Ive found myself believing in a God who if you slip or don't make the correct decision, hes gonna damn me to hell forever...
Im not gonna do enough while following his son and hes gonna damn me straight to the outer darkness and complete seperation..
    I just..
I just wanna know the God of love and mercy

First Remember that We are not perfect. Only Jesus has been perfect. But he doesnt want uss to live in sin he wants uss to be holy. The good thing is that you actually thinking of trying to become better then giving upp whitch you should never do since many will fall away for God and that will let satan take over you back to bondage. 1. First you need to know how mutch God loves you. So mutch that he Died for you. 2.Next step Confess that you are a sinner and ask God for forgivness 3.he has forgiven you 4. Dont look back on your flaws. 5. Start getting into deep Prayer,Let God set you free from everything. Call out for The blood of Jesus over yourself and for protection 6. Start listning to music and pray same time and Thank God in ur prayers . 7. Start reading The bible 20 min a Day so you can feed The holy spirit with The Word . 8. If you have brothers and sisters in christ be some days in their company and pray for eachother etc.

Not so much with the goats in Matthew 25:46, though.
      Sanity requires far more:
Acts -- 0 mentions of Hell
Paul -- never uses the word Hell
The Entire Old Testament -- 0 mentions
      Something's not lining up.
There is no hell. There will be a lake of fire, but it will contain sulfur (aka "brimstone") (Rev. 21:8), which changes everything:
      ---------------
Pre-Roman civilizations used sulfur as a medicine, a fumigant, a bleaching agent and in incense.
The ancient Greeks used sulfur to fumigate, to purify, to cleanse and consecrate to the deity.
For example, in Homer's _Iliad,_ in Book 16, a goblet is purified with sulfur.
For example, in Homer's _Odyssey,_ in Book 22, we find: "Bring me sulfur, which cleanses all pollution, and fetch fire also that I may burn it, and purify the cloisters."
The Romans used sulfur as an insecticide, and to purify a sick room to cleanse its air of evil.
For millennia, gold has been refined with fire _and sulfur,_ because of its ideal chemical properties. ( ruclips.net/video/4lHWv4zM7iA/видео.html )
      ---------------
The Old Testament has many refining metaphors: Deut. 4:20, 1 Kings 8:51, Psalms 12:6, 66:10, Prov. 17:3, 25:4, 27:21, Isa. 1:22-27, 48:10, Jer. 9:7, Zech. 13:9, *Mal. 3:2-3.* Maybe they should inform how we think about fire in the New Testament. Jesus even offered to sell gold refined by fire (Rev. 3:18). This shows that he too was thinking about refining too on the day the book of Revelation, including its "lake of fire," was born.
      ---------------
"But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For *he is like a refiner's fire and like fullers' soap.* He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and *he will purify* the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the Lord." --Malachi 3:2-3
      ---------------
*Connecting the Dots: The metaphorical lake of fire will punish **_and refine (purify)_** sinners. All will eventually be saved. God is good. Hallelujah!*
      ---------------
      John 12:32, 17:2, Rom. 5:18-19, 8:19-21, 11:32,36, 14:11, *1 Cor. 15:22,28* , Eph. 1:10, Phil. 2:10-11, 3:21, Col. 1:20, 1 Tim. 2:3-6, 4:10, Titus 2:11, 1 Pet. 4:6, 1 John 2:2, 4:14, Rev. 5:13, 15:4, 21:5,24-25, 22:2, combination of (Rev. 22:1,14-15,17a,17c), Psalm 22:27,29, 65:2-3, 145:10a, Isa. 25:6-8, 45:22-25, 57:16, Lam. 3:22,31, Ezek. 16:53,55, Mal. 3:2-3, The Total Victory of Christ videos.

So, I’m going to bring up some of my biggest concerns with faith. And I’m going to take any wisdom shared with me as an indirect way for my hypothetical creator to communicate with me. I’m writing because I genuinely want to understand.
If my parent saw me about to get hit by a train, it doesn’t matter if I just told them I hate them and want them to go away. It doesn’t matter if I have shunned them my entire life. They don’t even need to be my parent or know me. They would save me. My definition of unconditional love is someone who will love you even if you despise them. And to love someone is to protect them even if they never thank you. I don’t know why I can’t expect this kind of love from the most all loving, all powerful being in the universe. I’m having a hard time reasoning this.
I can’t help but feel like God sucks at his job. Billions of individual souls will suffer for eternity. Why? Because they didn’t secure their spot next to their creator. They didn’t acknowledge him as their savior or worship him wholeheartedly. Why is it that this is all that’s required to be saved? Why is it that so many morally upstanding agnostics/ atheists will suffer forever, meanwhile a man who many Christian’s claim is their brother is Christ, Ted bundy, is considered fit for salvation by god? What separates the sheep from the goats? Because it doesn’t seem to be moral quality, it seems to be whoever worships the one in charge of deciding who is saved. Which seems odd to me.
What about the non believers who genuinely seek out their creator? After a tragedy in my community, I desperately wanted to know God. I cried out to any divine being who might have been listening, I even asked for Jesus himself to communicate with me somehow. But I found nothing. I’ve professed Jesus as my savior many times because the first few times I figured I must have done it wrong, because the Holy Spirit didn’t seem to be working. But I still found nothing. And most Christian’s seem to be just as confused as me (considering all of the hundreds of different sects of Christianity who all think the others are wrong but believe they have the Holy Spirit.) All anyone has told me is that it must be this sinful, cursed world that makes it so hard. And all I can think is, why can’t god succeed despite all that?
Doesn’t it say in the Bible god wills everyone to be saved? How can he fail so miserably? Why will billions of souls not be saved? Because the world was too cursed? Too sinful? Satan was too powerful?
Some people argue that god designed it this way. And I can’t help but feel sick at the thought of a creator designing a system in which only a select few are able to be saved and live with their divine father, and the rest are left to suffer eternally. How does god justify this to himself?
People tell me deep down I must just not want to know the truth. But I’m telling you I’ve tried, and any last part of me that is secretly resisting is not something I can do anything about. People tell me ‘gods ways are just too hard to understand.’ That’s not something I can base my faith off of when my faith informs the way I live my life and the people I surround myself with. And I know that answer isn’t enough for millions of other individuals, all of whom are supposedly going to hell for not finding solace in those half baked responses. So where do we turn? Has anyone answered them satisfactorily? Do I just keep praying and hope God hears me and shows me what I can’t see right now?
I would love some podcast, books, or online creator recommendations. If anyone has struggled with similar concerns and found some way to continue to justify their faith, or was able to get in contact with our creator despite struggling like I have, please tell me how you did that.
I’ve been struggling with mental health for almost a decade now, with no end in site. I looked up ‘why am I always miserable,’ and the first video on this channel popped up. I feel like my life is missing something. If you believe praying for me would actually help, please do so, maybe God will hear you better than me
    Thank you for reading

The idea that God will torture His creatures in fire for eternity is a lie. God is the savior of all mankind. Demons want you to believe their doctrines which have infected the human race through the institutions that they have built up, namely the churches.
All of God's creatures will be reconciled to Him eventually. The creation will be perfected through Christ's work.

Great question. The answer is simple, He wouldn't. God would not create people and then torture them endlessly. Hell is a lie, it doesn't exist. Nowhere in the Bible is hellfire taught. You are struggling with the contradictions of a God of love and justice creating the most unloving and unjust punishment possible. It's flat out untrue and the Bible proves it.
Here are a couple of easy examples:
The wicked are destroyed not tortured forever.
"These very ones will undergo the judicial punishment of everlasting destruction from before the Lord and from the glory of his strength" 2 Thessalonians 1:9
The dead cannot think or feel anything, so eternal torment of the dead is not possible.
"the dead know nothing at all... ...their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished" Ecclesiastes 9:5,6

      @@Pj-fm7oe well I found this
"Gehenna" in the New Testament, where it is described as a place where both soul and body could be destroyed (Matthew 10:28) in "unquenchable fire" (Mark 9:43).
      There are more
Jesus spoke of hell as “eternal fire” (Matt. 25:41) and “eternal punishment” (Matt. 25:46). In Matthew 25:46, the same word-eternal-is used to describe eternal life for the righteous and the eternal punishment of hell for the unrighteous.
Jesus clearly taught that sinners were condemned in sin and would perish and go to hell if they didn't believe in Him as their Savior (John 3:16-18).
disciples and some Pharisees, Jesus tells of an unnamed rich man and a beggar named Lazarus. When both die, the rich man goes to Hell and implores Abraham to send Lazarus from his side in Heaven to warn the rich man's family from sharing his fate.
Everyone will exist eternally either in heaven or hell (Daniel 12:2,3; Matthew 25:46; John 5:28; Revelation 20:14,15).

I thought the one condition for his mercy was that you have to believe in Jesus. This video does nothing to address the real criticism of hell nonbelievers have. If he is infiinitely merciful and forgives everyone why does he a realm of eternal torment where he sends people who reject him? It also seems that his forgiveness comes with another pretty big condition, that being once you're dead and in hell you can never be forgiven and have to suffer forever.

Is God any different? The argument that a person can choose hell by rejecting God as a result of 'free' will is in effect saying a little girl has more strength than her dad. God has given man a 'measure' of free will, but certainly not to the degree that He would allow him or her to damn themselves forever in torment. Is God less of a parent than we are (Matt. 7:11)?"
