That pencil trick is totally something I would do 😂 ... Dowels would work too, a stick is generally pretty cheap... probably cheaper than the pencils now that I think about it.
I would use dowels myself though pencils are fine. Maybe ash or rosewood for the dowels to keep it guitar theme and i would probably glue the 2 pieces together just for some piece of mind. Cool system wayy more cost effective
There’s any number of things that you could use that would work. The pencils were just the first easy and affordable option that I ran across when I was walking around Lowe’s looking for something to support the hangers.
My wife found Oyenbboi version of this for guitar hanging at an Amazon return store. I haven't put it up yet, so I don't know how easy it's going to be, but I'm interested in this too.
Great, budget solution, Robert. On the pencils, I'd use the whole pencil on the hangers. That'd give you a little more wiggle room, in case the hanger moves over time. As you're taking the guitar off the hanger and putting it back on. Or maybe find a way to glue or tape it to the back of the hanger. Another even cheaper solution, is to use those black wall hangers you bought from amazon, (The 10 -20 pack ones) and attach those to a 2x6 on the wall. Space them them 5 in apart on the 2x6, that's the perfect distance for each guitar to not bump into another one. You can also paint the 2x6 to match your room. I've used this in my shop, and it works great
Mr. Whizbin, Well done! Yes, this is a very informative video. I'm "lucky" to not have the guitar storage problem that you do. But things could change! Rock on!
Thanks for thinking outside the box. My guitars are on the wall, coming down the stairs, using string swing for about half a dozen of them. But like you, I searched for a cheaper alternative and found it on Amazon. $13-$15 verses $5? Yeah, Im good with the metal plate verses wood. Nux pedals and amps. Joyo pedals and amps. Relatively new players in the effects realm. Joyo 6 band EQ and The Zombie 2 are a couple of great products. Got a couple of Nux pedals too. Thanks for your vids which encouraged me to purchase these. Old school, you get what you pay for. I was skeptical to pay less than half for an effect pedal from a brand I didnt know. Glad I watched your vids! Thanks
Great tip! It's a lot better than the method used to hang a Strat I bought, that was mounted at a now closed Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery. They used two nails shot through the body with a nail gun to mount it on the wall! The guitar was just used to decorate one of the walls, but I felt sorry for it, so I bought it cheap. I do not endorse or recommend the nail gun method, unless you hate your guitar.
Sweet Warren Moon jersey, Robert! My guitars live in their cases, except for #1 (My Telecaster) which is always in a stand next to my bed, in-case inspiration strikes. Add to that now, my ‘76 Strat, which isn’t as garbage as people say 70’s Strats are.
@@RobertWJacksonI’m a Bears fan, so football has been a sore subject this year. Maybe both the Bears and Colts will be better next year? We can only hope. 😂
Robert" over the years of watching your content, ive realized how much you and i have in common. Taste in guitars, gear, music ect... Your channel has gotton much bigger but i still think it should be much larger!
Robert, I'm really cheap. I figured out a way to hang guitars for about $1 per guitar. 1. One heavy duty eye bolt per guitar. 2. About 30" of #7 Paracord tied around the neck just above the nut under the strings, and running up the back of the headstock. Tie with 2 square knots, one just opposite the nut on the back, and one leaving about a 3" loop of cord above the headstock to hang the guitar. You must use paracord - available at wall mart - it's super strong. And it doesn't mar the headstock like the rubber of a regular hangar will. 3. Felt dots on wall behind guitar will prevent contact with the wall and protect the finish on the guitar. 4. A stud finder (cheap to buy, you'll use it forever) Locate your vertical studs on your wall. Drill a hole for the eye bolt about 3" higher than you want the top of your headstock. 5. A BIC lighter to cauterize the cord ends. Use a 4' level to get eyebolts even across the wall, mark spots for each bolt and drill. Screw the eyebolts in securely to the stud through the sheetrock. The paracord easily comes off for live performances, or just loop around a tuner key when practicing to get it out of the way. When you hang the guitar from the eye bolt make sure the smooth side of the bolt is up so as not to fray the paracord. The weight of the guitar tightens the knot, making the hanger totally secure. Wall studs are 16" on center, the perfect width for guitars. Note: when you cut paracord, you must immediately burn each cut end for a couple of seconds to prevent unravelling. If I could figure out how to post a picture, I would.
Thanks! There’s a ton on Amazon different prices. I just never knew how or where to look. Thanks so much. They’re all over my living room ATM and they actually look ok. My little grandson comes by though and plays with them like Lego which was great until he dropped one on his little foot. No harm done but now I always put them away when he comes. Anyway I know “ cool story bro” lol. Anyway I just ordered a bunch. Thanks again.
I used 2x4s and built an 8ft by 8ft Tee that holds 10 guitars. It's my Fender wall. I did the old Roger Dean paint scheme of dark blue on top fading to very light blue on the bottom. My Ibanez's and Firebirds are on a single 2x4 painted red with the swivel heads you have. All mount directly into the wall studs, the T with el brackets. What you are showing looks more finished and professional though, very nice.
@@RobertWJackson Thank you Robert, I 45'd all the ends and put rope lights inside the sections. Comes apart easily for moving. I got 18 hanging and 13 on multi guitar stands.
I was going to suggest that a 2x6 is cheaper than those panels, but by the time you sand and stain/paint the wood you’re about at the cost of those panels.
@ didn’t think about that. I have the perfect number of guitars and length of wall where my guitars hang from the studs. I’ll have to figure out something eventually though, or seek help for my problem lol
Thank you so much for this information, don't have enough guitars to warrant what you demonstrated, however for my pedals that's a different story. A 4 foot geartrack and 30 inch shoe racks will do the job, nicely angled and totally visible. 👌

How do you feel about the strength of the Therwen hangers? The pivot point looks like a potential weak spot. Also thank you for the Gladiator recommendation!
Couple months ago I ordered a String Swing floor stand for 5 or 7 guitars for roughly $350.00. What showed up was a box equaling the size of 4 or 5 shoeboxes. I emailed them and said "I need to return this" I got a little push back: "It requires assembly and is really sturdy". I don't doubt that, but I refuse to put 10K worth of guitars on a rack that fits in a box that size for $350ish bucks. I returned it and got a full refund after I paid for it to go back. Never again String Swing. Never again.
But, Robert, you forgot about the tone loss factor! If you hang expensive, boutique guitars with premium tonewoods on an inexpensive setup, it will degrade the tone over time. Remember, great tone comes from the wallet..... or something.
