Thanks for the video. Helped me quickly change the oil in my Coleman 6250 Generator that needed it badly! These generators are work horses for sure! Saw in your comment reply below that you fill with new oil until oil starts coming out of the fill hole. This was helpful.
Actually the fill hole is where it should be coming out of when filling. That is plug yellow in color. The drain plug is below that and is only used for draining.
While filling and once full the oil will start coming out of the fill hole. Once again it's yellow in color. Don't mistake the lower drain plug with this or engine WILL Be Low on oil.
I haven't had to do anything but change the oil in this generator. It's built like a tank. Maybe put air in the tires and blow out the air cleaner with compressed air. It starts first pull every time!
@@NorthwindGarage thank you, I am currently out of power from Milton in Florida and it’s keeping my fridge cold and my window acs running. I always run ethanol free, did an oil change after 20 hours and just put a new filter. Do you know if it has a fuel filter?
@@JackMcCoy331 I don't think it has an inline filter but it may have a screen on the shut off in the fuel tank. Might be able to see that through the fill with a stout flashlight.
It's less than a quart I believe but fill until oil runs out of the fill port. Then your all set Replace the fill cap and it's ready to run. Thanks for watching! 🇺🇸👍😁
You can also drain the oil from either side. Whichever side has best access for your generator. Drain or fill on that side. It's all the same oil. Thanks for Watching! ✌️🇺🇸😁
Is it normal for a brand new generator to have a heavy gasoline smell in the oil? I unscrewed the oil cap dipstick plug to put oil in it and when I smelled the small amount of oil on the plug it had a heavy gasoline smell.
Hello. I'm back again. Whats the easiest way to drain the fuel tank? Do I disconnect a hose near the fuel shutoff knob? if so, which one? Thanks again!
I drained some of the gas. However, I noticed the fuel line was cracking. Put another fuel line on. Couldn't get the carb hose back on. Had to pinch the hose to decrease the circumference to get it back into the back of the air cleaner. Worked great.
I've been looking for an instruction manual for this generator (PM0545007 with GenPower 305 B&S motor). All of the manuals online are only inserts lacking basic operating instructions. I'm looking for a few answers. How many gallons does this tank hold and what is the runtime on a full tank or per gallon? Thanks so much.
@@NorthwindGarage I tried searching by serial number or model number on the powermate website, but there's no results. Every manual I downloaded says "Insert" in the upper left, which lacks basic operating instructions. The "insert" says it holds 6 gallons of gas, but just wondering how long will will run. I guess the runtime also depends on the wattage load. It was my Dad's generator and I want to learn how to use it for my elderly mom, just in case.
@@NorthwindGarage Thanks brother. Greatly appreciate it! Through trial and error, I managed to get it started after realizing I had to open the gas tank valve. I did shut that valve after testing it. Today, I'm going to check the color and level of the oil and change it if necessary. Thanks again!
@@NorthwindGarage Thanks, I made the mistake of adding like 3 gallons of gas to gas that was in there for years. Oh well. Next time I know to run the old gas out frequently before putting in new gas. Thanks. To add... I don't think this generator has much mileage on it. My Dad may have used it for maybe 3-4 power outages.
@@NorthwindGarage I'll run it today for a half hour. When I first started it up a few days ago, there was black smoke, maybe because I didn't have the fuel valve open (because I didn't know about that valve at first)? Or maybe because it was sitting for years?

@@NorthwindGarage I misspoke, I meant the fill hole like your showed in the video, not the drain hole. Thanks again for the great instructional video.
Do you have any other videos of you working on this gen? Thanks for easy video

It starts first pull every time!
I strictly use non-ethenol gas in it.
And I start and run it about 4 times a year whether I need it or not.
It runs flawlessly

Mine has two oil fill caps and two drains but on takes 1/2 qt and it’s a 6250
Good to know! Thanks for Watching! 🇺🇸👍😁
Is it still running?
Yea just used it a week ago. Thanks for Watching 🇺🇸👍😁
Great job from vzla y have one how much oil use 1 ltr about?

Thanks
Did you fill it up to the top of the fill hole?
Do u no if u have to change oil on other side of generator to mine is just like yours , but with 2 oil fill caps & drain plugs ?
I really wish this question had been answered. I'm wondering the same thing. And literally can't find a single bit of info on it.
Both sides have the same oil sump
You can fill it from either side. The purpose for that is different applications for the same engine.

U tightened that drain plug kinda tight.

I have the same generator but with the tecumseh engine, damn good generator.... but yes loud lol

What size nipple would fit in that drain plug hole
1/4 inch NPT
That is what mine is yours may differ.
How much oil do you add. Come on dude?
While the generator is level add oil until it starts to drip out of the fill hole....
Then replace the cap. And your done. Thanks for Watching 🇺🇸👍
