I've just spent my whole sunday watching to your videos, and I knew most stuff already, but for those 4 or 5 tips I didn't know it was worth it! your way of teaching is very entertaining even if the topics are boring by definition. Thanks for your great work!
Awesome stuff! A few small notes that could speed things up: 1) If you scale the cube in edit mode at the start, it will leave the object's dimensions at 1x1x1 and you won't have to apply the transforms before going on. 2) Instead of setting the cylinder's origin to geometry and then snapping it back to the center of the edge, you can set the geometry to origin instead, and it will leave the object origin where it was and move the geometry. I'm really enjoying your videos so far, the focus on clean efficient modelling and the wider vfx industry pipelines are really interesting!
Hi ZachlmFilm! Thanks for the comments. In 3D, there's often may ways to do thinks and sometime you have old habits that are hard to get rid of. Always nice to hear other ways to do stuff. Greatly appreciated. Cheers
Great series filled with a lot of tips for me. I personally find the knife tool too "slow" when I already have the vertices and I just need to split the face: selecting the 2 vertices and pressing J (to connect them and splitting the face) is way faster (bonus point: it works also across other edges splitting them if needed)
Yeah! I realized that after I made the video. Maybe I can make a card to fix that. There's this function available on RUclips but I'm not sure what it's for. Thanks for the comments! :-)
@@BlenderBob Hi Bob. I tested it out and separate will separate the faces instead of extending it like you've shown in the video. Is there an additional command after I might have missed out on?
I have found your information great for some of the industry standards that are missing for a lot of Blender tutorials. On another note I am also from Canada and grew up in northern Ontario so I have heard much much much much worse accents to work through. I would love to pick your brain on the efficacy of blender for professional work as I have to pay for Adobe CC and Blender seems to be the best 3D option for a home bound freelancer/ student.
Thanks for the comments! Blender is so powerful, it's quite amazing how fast it is growing too. If you ever want to work in the film industry, I suggest you learn Nuke for compositing. I think they have a non-commercial version available. If not, try Natron. It's a Nuke carbon copy and it's open source. It's unstable and there's not much development going on with it but it's better than nothing. Nobody in the film industry uses After-Effect for comp. Only for motion graphics.
@@BlenderBob Ya, I have used nuke student trials in the past but the limitations are...limiting... I am focusing on blender and have used Adobe CC for 5+ years so my workflow is a little off film industry but I have no hope of fitting in there with my chronic health issues so I am focusing on independent accessible work (remote driven independent films and motion graphics ) Blender has got a lot of compositing potential too and is getting better. Part of why I have zipped through all your videos is it is so rare to get some industry driven tips geared towards VFX or photo-real renders.
If I have done modeling a project with booleans, and now the topology are screwed but the shading is okay, what should I do next? Retopologize or just leave it because the mesh doesnt have to deform?
Hi Phal. Hard to tell without seeing it. If it doesn't deform and renders well and you already did all the textures, leave it like that. If you have issues in some areas, just fix those. You can send me pictures on my facebook page, maybe I can help you more that way. Just search for Blender Bob. Cheers.
@@BlenderBob Thanks for sweet replying. I think I just did, but my wondering is still there. I model a laptop case with all the interior details. The structure of the case is not what we can see everyday, and it supposed to be modeled in CAD or fusion 360. But somehow I managed to make it Blender with all the magical booleans. From shading it looks okay but I just can't UV in order to texture some text and logo. It's very messy.
Phal Happy You are better off using Hard Surface techniques with addons like HardOps, Box cutter, Decal Machine, MeshMachine, Fluent, Speedflow, etc. You don't need to use conventional UV Unwrapping either to apply decals and details. DecalMachine is a great alternative to that in conjunction with the other addon tools I mentioned.
PukkaFactor I strongly suggest you watch the entire series, especially episodes 1 and 2 and you will see why these addons can’t be used in the film industry. They are great for fast prototypes or for geometry that will ne be distorted or displaced bit in the the film industry, that’s what we do. You present models made with these plugins for a job interview and they will turn you down.
@@BlenderBob Question. How would this model fair any better than a model produced using some of the above mentioned tools, i.e. HardOps, Boxcutter, etc? You've modeled that can't be any more easily distorted or displaced. A model with just as many ngons. I'm digging this series, but I just don't get the disconnect here. If you know how to work with Booleans, and how to clean up the geo, you can do this exact laptop model and end up exactly the same. No? FYI, I just subscribed to your channel and look forward to see more of what you do.
Ah ah! Les Québécois sont pas mal pour faire des accents français mais on dirait que les Français sont incapablent de prendre l'accent Québécois. Étrange tout de même.

Nice one lad!! Learned different techniques tbh. Andrew prices email brought me here btw 😁😁
Oh! Cool! I just saw that he commented on one of my clips. :-)
Just discovered your site ........ love it.
Cheers

Thanks! Spread the joy!
Awesome!! Love it!! I'm more of a CAD/BIM modeler but can't wait to jump in to mesh modeling, these techniques are just awesome!!
Thanks! Make sure you watch parts 1, 2 and 3 to get a good base. Part 4 coming soon. :-)
@@BlenderBob Will do. Tip...change the Thumbnails. Not a good representation of what your gonna get and they look very boring. My two cents
@@eztutor823 Yeah, heard that before. I'll try to change them when I have a minute. Crazy rush right now. Tx

J'étais passé à côté de cet épisode ... Bisous depuis la France ;)
Awesome video and Awesome chanell! I wonder how do you get that pie menu in 1:49 Is it an addon or some shortcut?
I use pie menu editor so I customized a lot of them to fit my needs. You can check my Maya to Blender survival guide for more info. :-)

It’s just separate. My bad.

Ok. I never actually tried. Good to know. Thanks.
