After finally looking up Henry Surtees' crash and watching the Will Power Gateway 2017 crash and Justin Wilson Pocono 2015 crashe live, I am for head protection now, in IndyCar and F1. Yes, it is the traditional thing to have the head clearly visible, but we cannot keep risking driver's lives any more than is necessary if racing is to survive.
Keith Harvey They're gonna have a plexiglass shield on the F1 cars in 2018, almost like an old sprint car or a snowmobile. There could be good things or bad things about it. The good thing is that it guards around the cockpit, making any debris touchless to the driver, and it also may improve of aerodynamics, along with DRS, which can reach of max speeds about 2-5 MPH faster. The bad about it is it can be debris in it's own right. Like, what if you are coming on a crash at 185 MPH, the car is aside from the track, not displaying a full chorus yellow, but a tire is bouncing around somewhere. If it hits the glass it'll easily reflect, but what if the shield breaks? So yeah, mostly good, but I also have some concerns
Halo is the best compromise. I've been watching racing of all sorts for over 40 years. I've seen more than enough fatal accidents and don't want to see another. There is plenty of evidence that a halo (as it is now) would have saved numerous lives. Remember that each time there is a safety device introduced, loads of people complain about it. Over time we stop moaning and adapt. And occasionally we'll see clear evidence of the device's "job in action", so to speak. IIRC there was an incident in F1 early this year (Spain? My long term memory is better these days lol) when a driver escaped serious injury at least when something (a wheel I think) hit his halo. If it were a wheel, remember that that's what killed poor Henry Surtees :'(
Lord that intro...I'm scarred for life now.
0:14: That face you make when you are forced to do something stupid because it was in the contract.
Kinda like in Stroker Ace, with the "Fastest chicken in the south." (I know it's a Nascar movie)!!
Was not expecting Aerosmith when I opened the video, nice touch!

Grindcore Racer 67 there not using the shield, they are using the halo system
Grindcore Racer 67 theyre using the much less popular, and i think the dumber, halo. Not a fan of the Halo

1:24 - Indy Lights used to have quite a lot of cars
Gateway! That was such an exciting race to be at
Kanaan at the opening, WTF
Can we recognize the safety team at 3:10 for getting in the trucks and on the move before the cars even stopped?
I thought they never leave the trucks while on standby?
AHHHHH!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH DUDE LOOKS LIKE A LADY
0:00 What the hell that picture looks familiar
1:28 "a bonsai move" You mean like one of those little trees? >_>
no it was "a banzai move"
Who are in the intro? I myself can identify Kanaan and possibly Franchitti.
Arie Luyendyk has the pipe put of his mouth, looks relatively natural for some reason.
dude on the left it was Dan Wheldon
Bryan herta has the blonde wig
Its The Andretti Dream Team: Tony Kanaan, Dario Franchitti, Dan Wheldon, and Bryan Herta. Also Arie Luyendyk for some reason.
I think it's safe to say Gateway is a hub for WTF moments
We need Gateway in the top level of NASCAR.
Breakneck racing in a million dollar tuna can... Never ... No way, no how..
1:51 DANICA PATRICK THIRD WTF
Danica was good in Indycar
She was a race winner. Don't be so surprised.
TAGLIANI WUZ KANGZ N SHIET
I wanna be honest, I was at Gateway, I live close to it, and the traffic leaving the event was AWFUL
I feel Rahal wrecks every year at St. Petersburg
Was that a dream at 49
3:40 I have the Hot Wheels model of that car.
Bourdais didnt do nothing wrong there, he just ran out of room like Derek Daly says
