What I do with kick and snare is use a transient shaper to make the transient louder. Then I use a clipper to clip off the transient to get back the headroom. The result is usually a snappy sound with less noticeable distortion because it is only clipping that short transient. Genre also matters. Metal is going to be different than EDM, for example.
That can work too. This is similar to clipping in mastering. So when I master tracks I like to clip off the short transients to gain some headroom. This works because it's such a short amount of audio that it's clipping. Your brain doesn't notice the distortion. Keep in mind when clipping, you're adding square wave distortion, even harmonics. Which is why it sounds bad when you clip the low end. And sounds good when you clip the high end.
Continuing with your thought process on the kick, what if you first cut some low end before clipping? Would that allow you to clip it more aggressively before adding the low end back?
@Durkhead there is always an attack setting on a compressor which means it doesn't kick in right away. So sometimes you could be left with a larger transient than before
@@Mr_Audio i dont know what your doing but when i use a compressor before the clipper you can almost turn the clipper up as loud as you want without getting the crispy crackles from the cutoff peaks
Ayo can we hop in a discord call and work on a project together? I have some questions that you may be able to help clear up. I figure its easier to connect with a smaller content creator than it is with someone like kyle beats, simon servida or nick mira yk? lol. I know a ton of shit about producing as i've been doing it for bout 5 years but there are still inconsistencies in audio sometimes where i have no idea how to overcome. I do parallel processing/compression, i level and gain stage multiple times in my mixes usually actually, i know about phase correlation and how to keep it in check. Yet sometimes my shit still sound lame ah and idk where im going wrong in terms of mixing my kicks/808s. It's one of my biggest struggles
Yk when the 808 and kick sound great in headphones then you go to the studio monitor and its ass? or you go from studio monitor to headphones and its better on the monitors instead :O type shit or the 808 just sounds different in headphones vs monitors. This doesn't always happen but it does and maybe theres something else im not thinking of but i would like to see what you think
I made this composition as a hobby, the song talks about (IA) I'm looking for an artist or DJs who want to record it. When he composed it, I thought of a vocal like Lady Gaga. here is the link to the composition, very grateful. ruclips.net/video/vfjQwy342Z8/видео.htmlsi=LriYyNGwbyotvCkW

I don't know. I might try this to see if it works. If it does, I'm definitely a fan of the idea.
If you try it definitely let me know if it works?
