That can work too. This is similar to clipping in mastering. So when I master tracks I like to clip off the short transients to gain some headroom. This works because it's such a short amount of audio that it's clipping. Your brain doesn't notice the distortion. Keep in mind when clipping, you're adding square wave distortion, even harmonics. Which is why it sounds bad when you clip the low end. And sounds good when you clip the high end.

I don't know. I might try this to see if it works. If it does, I'm definitely a fan of the idea.

@Durkhead there is always an attack setting on a compressor which means it doesn't kick in right away. So sometimes you could be left with a larger transient than before

@@Mr_Audio i dont know what your doing but when i use a compressor before the clipper you can almost turn the clipper up as loud as you want without getting the crispy crackles from the cutoff peaks

​@@RXHMNDokay so you would load melodyne on each track Then after that at the top left there's a button that looks like there's a bunch of tracks. Click that button. It should pop out your track window Then you would want to record all of them in at the same time. At least that's how I do it. So you'd want to have the record button selected on all of them. You can just click on one of them and hold shift and click on the last one and all of them should be selected to record Once you record them all in then you can edit them. How you please If you need more help we can set up a one-on-one zoom call And this is how it works in Ableton. Other daws can be slightly different

@@Mr_Audio Ah, so the plugin needs to be on every track and still needs to be transferred. I thought there was an easier way without needing to do that and just have all tracks automatically from the start. Thanks for the input

Some daws are ARA compatible and that means once you put the plugin on the track it should already be transferred in there and any change that you make in the plug-in will also change the waveform in the arrangement view of the daw But Ableton does not have ARA compatibility

@@Aseptic_Technique I try to make most of my production videos daw agnostic.

This effect rack is only for Ableton users. Ableton is both windows and Mac compatible.

I'm guessing someone somewhere told you this information. This will not cause any issues. Let's get that out of the way first. 24-Bit audio and 32-bit audio is a different way of storing information that is all Most consumer interfaces support 24-bit audio going in and 32-Bit audio going out However, there are some interfaces that do support 32-bit audio going in But most of these are field recorders and this is so that if you record too loud of a sound in the field, you can reduce the clip gain to get that peak back so you're not going over 0dbfs when you export. And this can be done in your daw after the fact Most interfaces people use for recording vocals, guitar, drums and other sounds don't support higher than 24-bit going in However, they do support 32-bit on the output This will not cause any issues between your daw and your computer system because it supports 24-bit going in and 32-bit going out. See 32-bit audio has existed for quite some time now. If you want to know the science behind it, 24-bit audio is stored using binary code 32-Bit audio is stored using scientific notation and all that means is you can fit a lot more information in the same amount of space as 24-bit audio I'm guessing I should probably do another video using audio examples to better explain my point

Here's a link to the interface that I have if you scroll down aways. You'll see what I'm talking about. You'll see that it has 32-bit conversion, no compromise in monitoring. @@soundsfromYYBY then your interface is capable of this as well. If you look at that link I sent you scroll about halfway down. You'll see that it supports 32-bit output Once in your daw, you can process in 32-bit on any interface. What you hear will probably be 24-bit if you're interface is not support 32-bit output but you'll still have all the benefits of 32-bit

You have to put melodyne on each track that you wanted on. I usually put it at the beginning of the chain. Then I like to transfer all of them in at once. You can click the transfer button. At the top for this. However, you can activate all of the transfer buttons at the same time. There will be a little red record button off to the side where all the tracks appear. You can click the record button on the top track in melodyne and then hold shift and click the record button on the bottom track. This basically selects all of them to be recorded. Then you just play your vocals through all the way through and then they are imported into melodyne You're kind of like recording them in Certain daws have ARA support Mine which is Ableton does not so I have to do this every time

You kind of have to record it in. There's a transfer button up top Click that and then play the vocals sample through Then it will appear melodyne. Then the video will make a bit more sense

You can use the standalone option but I prefer to use it as a plugin

This video basically just gets you familiar with all the tools in melodyne. At least the basic ones. What do you seem to be struggling with? Maybe I can help.

I'm pretty sure the future is only available in izotopes ozone and Fab filters pro L2 If you don't have those, you probably don't know anything to worry about I don't think you can disable the future, just turn it down to zero

The more consistent pleasing sound which I forgot to mention is dither I have a couple of long form videos that explained dither and show what it sounds like But this video is very old I'm much better at making videos now

@@rmndnb You could try boosting some low mids on the bass Sometimes I'll keep the kick and the bass the same note, make sure they're in phase with each other So they're not canceling each other out in any point And then resample that one note together, put it in a sampler And play it like an 808 in a sampler Sometimes I also find that that works as well. It depends on what kind of music you're creating If you don't mind me asking, what kind of music do you normally create

@@Mr_Audio Thanks for the answer. I make drum and bass so getting this part right is key! But learning everytime. Also I mostly put the bass slightly after the kick plays to give it even more space.

It's definitely also a good method but it might make your low end feel a bit loose at times but sometimes that's enjoyable though. That is something that is done in a lot of reggae tracks. You should definitely try ring mod sidechain I forgot to list the links for the plugins in the description but I will list them tonight sometime. But method number five that I mentioned works very well for that genre too. There are a few videos on RUclips explaining how to do it. I would just type in ring mod sidechain in the search bar and you'll see a few videos, they're short and sweet but very informative. I'll probably go more in depth with ring mod sidechain in the future.

Even though it did not have that much room in the recording, I still would not have used it had I not taken some of the room away. And the room, you can really only hear it on a few notes. But those are the notes that I was singing the loudest. So of course the room reflections would definitely be noticeable with compression at least on those parts.

And plus if you check out the rest of the comments, most everybody found this trick useful. I hope you do too as well my friend!

Is there a vocal you're trying to save with significantly more room reflections than the one that I'm showing in the video?

@Mr_Audio I think I was looking for something simpler. You have obviously worked with the product, but sometimes when doing videos, we forget to plan out what we are going to say a little bit. I didn't mean to be so hard on you. I reread what I typed and I thought "damn, I was kind of hard on the guy".

Good question I actually made a video on this, but I'll give a simple explanation here. Plugins have aliasing filters. Some may start to slope into the audible range when using 44.1k That's the only reason However, when you downsample you can create a lot of ISP's. There are always trade-offs

@@Mr_Audio Thanks for taking my comments in the spirit in which they were intended :) Yes, we're all learning all the time. Having a properly structured video leads to more structured input into the brains of those watching. Same as when i give a 1-hour lecture to a lecture theatre with 550 students. I need to GET their attention, KEEP it, then SPARK their inquisitiveness, EXPLAIN stuff very logically and in order, clarifying any tricky concepts along the way. I'm sure you already know this, but knowing and doing it are two different things :) Keep at it - you obviously know your subject matter really well. It's just a case of practicing how to structure it, lay the video out (not a full shooting script but at least a series of topic headers) etc. And try to stop saying "I'm going to be covering this/explaining this/ etc in a few minutes". Maybe once, if you have to, but not as often as you do it in this video. Keep on learning :)
