Tomasz, your YT channel influenced me to purchase my first table saw. I followed your tips on setting it up, improving and tuning it. I've just upgraded the table saw and have just taken delivery of the Evolution R255TBL+. What an amazing piece of kit. Lots of improvements that I think you'll like. I've mentioned your influence to Evolution UK and hope someone reaches out to you. Best wishes my friend.
Your videos are aways helpful and help people who don't have a fortune to spend on the best of gear. You show us how to get the best from our budget tools. Well done you and keep up the good work.
Had the same thing on my Einhell saw. Followed your video to make a new zero-clearance insert plate and all is well again. Took 20 minutes to make. Massive improvement. Thanks.
It's amazing how accurate a cheap saw can be, if you take a small amount of time to actually work out why something isn't quite right. I've still not used my Rage 5 yet, but have already noticed a few iffy bits ... one being the plate you mention ... but a few minutes is all it takes to sort it
I’ve been having the same trouble with my Excel table saw (can’t afford a decent one yet) finally got the saw blade parallel to the mitre guides by removing the motor assembly and grinding off lumps and bumps caused by poor casting, got the fence square, made an outfeed extension, decent blade and it would not rip boards square for joining boards! The culprit is definitely those crappy clearance plates, they’re so flimsy and totally useless! Bit of a nightmare making a new one for the Excel saw because of the shape but it’s worth the effort 👍🏻
Tomasz, thank you very much for this useful and important advice. It's so helpful that I've subscribed to your channel. I've been having exactly the same cut problem with a completely different brand of table saw and although I was going to get around to making a zero-clearance insert plate to avoid tear-out, now that I know this is likely the reason for the saw's poor performance, I'll make it a much higher priority. Thank you!
Just received the rage5-s table saw and the evolution vac for dust extractor.im planning to do like you've done and do a router table using it too so got the Triton router
I have one of these table saws. Not used for anything specific at the moment as I have had to build a workshop around it :). I know this stuff is built to a price but this is a big issue easily solved at source for a few quid on top of the price. Evolution keep throwing freebies in with their stuff. When I bought the saw it came with a fine cutting wood blade. When I bought the vac it came with an adapter. Why not just put on a fit for purpose plate...............Gotta say Thomaz. You are the goto guy on youtube when it comes to this saw :)
Hi Tomasz, I've watched many of your videos and it has helped me no end to get started with woodworking and setting up my workshop. I would like to ask a couple of of questions. I also have a rage5s and one of the problems I have is not having the fence parallel with the blade. It often cuts a tapperered cut. I can measure both ends before but how do you get it to cut square. Also what is the small pot of glue that you use to glue in bolts with? Regards Grant
Well you need to check what is not straight. Mitre slots should be the reference for you. So check the blade against the mitre slot and then the fence to see which one is put of alignment. And then fix the issue. I do have a whole video on how to tune up a table saw (rage5s)
@@CasualDIY Hi Tomasz, I rewatched your excellent videos on the subject and eventually bought a digital gauge. I eventually got it sorted with the two furthest away Allen key bolts at the end of the blade. After a bit of trial and error, I got it sorted. Totally agree about that insert: I tried stiffening it with wooden inserts (for angle cuts), but still not great. Also, I haven't seen anyone else commenting on this, but my fence has a slight bow to it, which is a real nuisance.
My fence is straight, however I'm planning to make my own in the near future. You can put a straight melamine board over it to improve its performance for a quick fix
Is it feasible to "stiffen" the original insert by gluing (epoxy) a "rib" of some sort to the underside along the length, close to the blade aperture? I'm hovering on buying one of these saws and every little it of info helps!
@@CasualDIY If it worked at least that would be useful for 45degree cuts. I have seen 3D printed zero clearence inserts for sale on Ebay . I don't know how rigid they are, does anyone know?
This is a really useful tip. Another problem I have encountered is when I cut a piece of wood using the guide, it is not parallel, any suggestions please. Also the guide sits down flat on the table, but when you tighten it down the far end lifts off the table bed so the clamped end is touching and the far end is not, it has a gap of about 1.5mm gap, is this correct.

hey, I have the same table saw as you. I have a pretty frustrating problem but its hard to explain by text. Is there a way I can send you a video showing you? I can do short cuts pretty easily but anything long (over a metre) the piece "wedges" and eventually i simply cannot push the piece through anymore. As you can imagine, this is pretty dangerous. The pice i cut, short of long also doesnt pass over the blade evening, it will twist causing the blade to cut a second time on the "up cut" causing the piece to be a mill or two thinner than the table saw is set. I'm not sure if that makes sense but I can record a video if you're available to help.
Fallen victim to this myself in the past. I have the 255 pts (essentially the same saw), I have an issue with the fence. I check its square to the mitre slot, and if not set it using the 2 bolts on the top, but when I lock it the far end moves about 2mm left towards the blade/mitre slot. Well that's usually a nature of budget tools. If your workplace would invest in a much better saw with cast iron top then it would perform much better. However I bet even with a saw like that you would still need to do a zero clearance plate as the gap would be too big and pieces could fall into the slot where the blade sits.

I've had a similar result, but from a different reason with the same saw. My floor wasn't totally level, and I zero'd my angle finder on the table, then moved the saw location but didn't re-zero the angle finder. So my blade itself wasn't at 90 even though the digital angle finder said it was
One of the reasons I upgraded mine to a better quality saw. After all, these are construction grade saws, trying to do fine joinery was too frustrating for me.
My rage 5s table saw blade simply will not adjust to 90 degrees from the very beginning. Maximum I can get it to is 89 degrees. Really poor design and I’ve no idea how to adjust this issue. I’m guessing it will involve stripping the whole table down again and micro adjusting the blade alignment then putting it all back together and the thought of having to do that just makes me regret buying this after it getting so many good reviews

I git a video on how to tune up a table saw I bet the answer is in that video
You've done some great videos regarding this saw. I for one appreciate it as I've copied some of your ideas, but why oh why did you have the original plate in? You know it's turd lol 👍
Needed it for a 45 degree cut. I need to do my own 45 plate I think
@@CasualDIY yes I could do with doing a 45° plate
How about a 5S upgrade?
Rage 5S Pro
Instant Stop Blade Brake
Soft Start
Locking Rack & Pinion Fence
Draw sawdust from below table
Easier Blade Change
Run off mains and batteries
Brush-less motor
Not heard about that one to be honest.
In my dreams! (you just have to drink enough coffee) @@CasualDIY
Well, I wrote to Evolution with that wish list and it is a least in the hands of the product development team! @@CasualDIY
@@chrisward9706 hmm we shall see how far that will go, it's about time for second generation Rage 😉
Let me know if you want to receive a 3D printed version I d offer it to you of course!
Interested if you can send me a link please
@@ChippyVUK not sure it allowed to put link, I ll let the author say yes or no ;) (but searching zéro clearance insert evolution rage 5S you will find it ;) )
Sure you can drop a link it will be held by RUclips police but I will unblock it 👍
I'll try to have a go at printing it myself. Thank you kindly for the offer 👍
@@CasualDIY let me know how it goes ;)
I hope you have recycled that original part.😁
Still need it for some 45 cuts. But I'm thinking of making my own. Or maybe I'll try to 3d print one 🤔
if you had made a zero clearance plate already why go back to the plastic one??
Because sometimes you need more clearance, Clarance.
45 degree cut mate
@@1pcfred Don't forget the vector, Victor
@@shanecummins5108 roger, Rodger.
@@1pcfred 😂😂 classic.
Only 2 mins in and as I found out this saw has an unforgivably bad throat plate as standard
Evolution now do an aluminium zero clearance plate which pretty much solves this issue
Yes I've heard, well that means they heard the feedback and were willing to sort out the issue. The question is, is it an extra you have to buy or does it come with a saw?
@@CasualDIY sadly you have to buy it but it does come with two insert plates for two different kerf blades. I think someone has done a review on RUclips but I can’t remember who.
