    Just accepted a job with Kaiser Oakland. Moving from Portland, Oregon where I get $72 per hour, but now at Kaiser will be making $112 an hour. Insane. I have 8 years of experience in NICU, the baby one. Monthly gross is 16, 080, whereas in Oregon I was getting a gross monthly income of $10,368. Why does California pay so much? I used to work at Mount Sinai in Manhattan, NY and I was only getting $58 an hour! NYC need to get a backbone, because those wages are criminal for a place without ratios or substantial benefits.
    I care about culture of a unit and money. Trying to retire early by investing aggressively in dividend stocks, while maxing out my Roth IRA, 401K, and Kaiser Pension. At 36 I hope to go per diem indefinitely at age 51. This is all possible because of the amazing benefits and pay at Kaiser. Some entry and mid level software engineers don't make as much as I do.

    It is funny how you mentioned the change in mentality you had during nursing school because EVERY SINGLE CLASSMATE of mine went through the exact same thing! Most of us started the program with a GPA of 3.7 or above. I had only made one B in my prerequisites, and the rest were all A's. By the time we finished the third nursing course, everyone was saying "C's get degrees" and was just happy to still be in the program because so many of the people had failed or dropped out during the first year.

    With all the training, responsibilities, and risks we take on, ALL healthcare professionals deserve to get “a bag” regardless of the location or employer. We know that it’s doable because of how much the c-suite bobbleheads (CEO, CMO, CNO, etc) pull in! And better pay results in better patient outcomes, less turnover, and LESS costs and waste! Let’s work together and focus on unionizing and improving laws EVERYWHERE because we ALL deserve it! 🤍

    • @NursesToRiches
      @NursesToRiches  27 дней назад +5

      You'd be surprised. The majority of nurses in this country aren't even aware that nurses are making over $100/hr in other parts of the country. Many of them have called us scammers for saying that's how much we make. So, until nurses educate themselves more about these topics, there is no way they are going to unionize to improve their financial situation or working conditions.

    • @jesstiss222
      @jesstiss222 27 дней назад +5

      @@NursesToRiches I appreciate you and Monica expanding people’s awareness of the possibilities and I’m just adding to that. Regardless of $100/hr that seems as achievable as having a $billion for some, probably 99.9% of healthcare workers know that they are exhausted and frustrated and doing far more than their share and can barely get by. CNAs, hospital techs, EVS workers, EMTs, and paramedics in addition to LVN/LPNs and many RNs know what I’m talking about and shouldn’t need to become RNs (if they’re not already) or move to Cali just to feed their families and not work themselves to death.
      It takes steps to get laws and union contracts like you guys have and I want us to realize that WE have the power to make that happen right where we are, step by step if we work together and use our collective power to bring about the changes that _every_ healthcare worker and patient deserves 😊

      Many nurses in the Red states do not realize the power of being unionized. Yes unions require dues, but it's a small price to pay for better pay and work conditions.

    So for the new grad, the weekly OT was at $85 an hour which was also his base pay. Why wasn’t it time and a half?

    • @NursesToRiches
      @NursesToRiches  27 дней назад +1

      I forgot to include the other half of that. Kaiser separates the regular time from the 0.5 time and the pay stub should show those same number of hours worked as being paid at 0.5 time his base rate. When you add that to the number of hours he worked at his base rate, he is essentially getting paid 1.5x his base rate.

    Does Kaiser NorCal count all years of experience as RN for pay scale? SoCal KP RN experience is only based on KP years acrued.
    I.E. RN with 20 years experience outside of KP will start as a new hire atSoCal KP with only 2 years of experience on the pay scale.

    • @NursesToRiches
      @NursesToRiches  26 дней назад +2

      The Kaisers in NorCal (with CNA representation) will give you 1 year of credit for every two years of outside experience, up to a maximum of 10 years of outside experience. So the highest step you can come into the NorCal Kaisers with is a step 5.
