I wonder how many people will be hearing Northwest Passage for the first time, thanks to this band? Just imagine how much fun they will have when they go on to discover the rest of Stan's music.
Hopefully they do. I wouldn't have heard Unleash the Archers if it weren't for this and I'm having a lot of fun discovering the rest of Unleash the Archers.
That's exactly what happened to me. I had already heard his name after reading about the accident aboard the air canada flight, so i wanted to listen to some of his songs, just to have a perspective about how good he was before he passed, but I had forgotten about it for a few months. And then his name shows up again in the description of the "Unleash the archers" cover. I felt like I HAD to listen to his songs, his voice was so poweful he made any mic sound like a top quality one, he had pure talent.
... They featured my theory comment in the video. Ermahgerd... I'm... kinda legit freaking out. That's wholeheartedly awesome and I am so happy! Thanks! Love you guys! I think I might need to pop up to the Vancouver area for a show in your home stomping grounds, or maybe that Finnish cruise next year... hmmm.. Edit: Who else thinks UtA needs to play this song live at the NHL Heritage Classic this coming season?!
UTA holds a special place in my heart. For years I’ve been trying to get my oldest daughter into metal. Brittany and the wonderful musicians in UTA did it. I get requests for Apex and now NW Passage in the car from my daughters! Thank you for making music that literally inspires and entertains generations of my family.
This band needs even more recognition! They literally take the time to make amazing (story) songs and then do a music video for the songs which makes it even better cause its like a little movie we get to see and plug in the pieces! I think that's what makes it really epic. And then we have Brittney sharing her time to explain the stories on the songs cause we fans want to know! lol anyway tho I just want to say Thank You for your music and I can not wait for more music to come. :D
I will be honest I have watched the video dozens of times and still really had no clue what was going on. Also this is a song I had never expected to hear a cover that does the track justice let alone a metal cover. UTA easily one of the top bands from Canada.
I love you Britney, I can't wait to see you in France with the whole amazing group. I couldn't see you in 2021 in Lyon because of COVID but I will wait until you're not to far for another tour. You rock!
A friend of mine copied me the Northwest Passage video on facebook yesterday...I've never heard of your band but I LOVE THIS SONG...the big themes, the amazing vocals you kick out...love it can't wait to hear more...been listening to this a lot in the last 2 days :) I'm finding myself drawn more and more into the symphonic rock sound, especially such amazing female singers out there...I'm a big fan of Within Temptation and now of Unleash the Archers! Bravo Zulu!
discovered this band this year, am loving every track I've heard, will pick up the album(s?) soon! Lived in Victoria years ago, would've totally gone to every show! Tell the drummer to keep the stache!
Just came across this video the other day going down a rabbit hole when I remembered this song listening to sea shanties a while back and came across the cover; luckily enough, I'm a metal fan as well and loving the rhythm and vocals! Got a few friends from the north, and will introduce them to y'all soon enough! Had a completely different take on the video, that "evil" you was your stage presence. You have to be a bit of a different person on stage than when you're in a conversation, and I thought that all of the band was showing what y'all actually do in day to day life in between gigs(it's hard to pay the bills). Keep doing what y'all're doing!
Cried when I first heard the song. It's so powerful. And I love these explanations! Anything from you guys is amazing. Hopefully the tale of the Immortal in Apex isn't over either.
Awesome Music vid, and great explanation! Do please keep making these "The Story Behind''s for future songs. These are going to be sweet when the next album comes out!
I'm a huge Stan Rogers fan and metalhead, so I really enjoyed seeing the two meeting in your music. "Northwest Passage" isn't my favourite of Stan's songs, but it holds a special place in my heart, nonetheless
Hi Brittney! Your glasses look great on you. I found my way here because I'm a big fan of "Northwest Passage" from my exposure to Chicago's Bounding Main covering it. I really like y'all's performance of it! This is the first I'd heard of Unleash the Archers, and I really like what you're doing.
Aaaaahhh! The clouds of confusion dissipates. Every time I've watched the video I have been contemplating what you had smoked, snorted and sniffed to come up with that script.
the EP was awesome and I looked up the original artist of Northwest Passage and he was an amazing songwriter and singer. He died so young. A major loss for sure
Thanks for taking the time to explain the video. Stay rad, stay nerdy, stay metal, and please come to MN sometime soon. \m/ Northwest passage has a lot of meaning for me so it's really awesome to see you guys doing a fantastic cover of it.
@@stevenbullock9276 definitely brought the band to that next level of greatness, they were already great just thought he made them that much better. great bassist.
Agree with all the comments here. Nikko was a top-notch player. Have they chosen a replacement yet? Seems like they've just been using fill-ins for live shows.
As wonderful as Dropkick Murphy's recording Woodie Guthrie's "Shipping up to Boston". I'm thrilled that you've brought this seminal set of lyrics to the present. THANK YOU!!
Omg! I love her, Unleash The Archers are one of my favorite metal bands, and knowing there Canadian just makes it even sweeter ,cant wait for the new EP to drop!
Unleash the Archers, steadily but surely becoming a huge name in the industry. Love the video and the story ! Amazing that they went all the way to create something like that ! True nerds to the bone ! They fucking rock !
Congratulations on the new track and music video! That was an amazing idea. The premise of this is awesome. It opens up a whole world of opportunities for all sorts of weird twists and cameos in your videos to follow. It can even spill into the lyrics, which of course, you've probably already thought of. Everything becomes possible when you mix time travel into it. Loving your work. Really looking forward to the next one. Stay nerdy... ('nerdy' and 'awesome' are synonyms in my dictionary) Because without that we wouldn't have this amazing cover and the intriguing video and plot that come with it.
I just love the single - and i played it on loop all weekend. Thank you for taking the time to lay out the video for the song. And if i might add .. freaking awesome seeing the Joe Abercrombie books behind you - i have the same trilogy in those covers. I'm a book nerd so it gave me a big smile to see you have an interest in the same literature
I love this song, I love that video, I love this band. What an awesome idea to do an explanation and finally unveil the truth behind it!!! Love it! Thank you for doing this!!! 💖🤘
I don't watch 'Rick and Morty', but I got that the video was about multiverse, but I didn't notice all those details in the first time I watched the video. Really great indeed.
I felt like the killing at the end wasn’t so much a “murder other versions” and instead this whole video is about being an artist and “the path not taken”. IE: a choice precludes all other choices and whenever we choose we “kill” another possible version of ourselves. Like as an artist, I often wonder what my life would be like, having not chosen this path-like depending upon what version of myself was dominate at key junctures. Because to quote Walt Whitman: “I am large, I contain multitudes.” This aspect of the song really spoke to me, because I mourn for those pieces of me that have been denied. What does “normal Brent” wind up doing if I chose to follow a more mainstream path, rather than bucking society. That’s the part of this song that really kicks me in the heartstrings. I don’t hate “other Brent” and in many ways, I’m jealous of him, but ultimately he has to “die” for me to be me. It’s an inherent tragedy of existence but ultimately I’m unable to do or be anyone else, because I “am I” and the road not taken, no matter how similar, is someone else. So yeah, ultimately we just have to accept ourselves and not deny our heart. You can’t get away from your heart, and every single one of us becomes what and who we are by-no matter how painful-doing what we love. Ultimately that’s all any of us can do, and artists are perhaps a bit more in tune with that than other versions of ourselves. ;)
Honestly, I thought the video was about the stress and anxiety of trying to carve your destiny in the real arts (music, metal) and comparing it to the doomed explorers trying to find the non-existent Northwest Passage. During the long hours of traveling and hardships endured pondering if it’d been better to live a “settled life” as I believe the song said. Although, great explanation by Brittney. I’ll still identify my explanation as the truth, haha. Seriously you should have left it in the air. Great video, and as both an American and Kentuckian I envy that song and the passion in which y’all performed it.
I wonder how many people will be hearing Northwest Passage for the first time, thanks to this band? Just imagine how much fun they will have when they go on to discover the rest of Stan's music.

Unleash the Archers: Into the Brittneyverse

Love the Joe Abercrombie "First Law" Trilogy in the background. UTA is so great!
Yeah, I just left a similar comment, fantastic triology! The three stand alone books that take place after the triology are almost even better.
That's awesome dude! How old are they?
Parenting, done right. Nice job, dad.
80's grandma glasses have never looked so hawt.
I don't know. This is something Evil Hayes would say.
I just discovered this band like a month ago, and very quickly they've become one of my favourites.
1:19
Stop it. I can only love you guys as a band so much.
_please never stop_
Same here
I love these videos never stop making them cause i like seeing into the minds of the creators
This woman is my Spirit Animal! And while she a true BEAST on the mic, she seems like the coolest essence and presence!
This band needs even more recognition! I was confused AF when I first watched the video , but now it makes alot more sense lmao
The beauty of Unleash the Archers
Now I gotta hear an Unleash the Archers’ version of Lost Horizon’s Highlander
That, or having Heiman as a guest vocalist would make my life complete
Thumbs up for you both gentlemen.
Any Lost Horizon cover by them would make my life
Absolutely love this version. Am a huge Stan fan, now a fan of UTA
I’m a great-grampa and I love UTA and this young lady.
I will be honest I have watched the video dozens of times and still really had no clue what was going on. Also this is a song I had never expected to hear a cover that does the track justice let alone a metal cover. UTA easily one of the top bands from Canada.
Love it. Great job everyone. Can't wait to hear the rest of EP.
So grateful I came across UTA this summer.
Can't
Get
Enough
I mean, the song is absolutly amazing!!,
but with the story behind it, it`s even greater!
- My new favourite song :D
please never lose that amaizing voice
My favorite timeline is the one where you guys stick around as long as Blind Guardian at least. ;-)
Nerds and metal heads woo!
So many great albums coming out this and next month....Dragonforce, Jinjer, Alter Bridge, you guys....amazing, can't wait for all of them❤❤❤
I love you Britney, I can't wait to see you in France with the whole amazing group. I couldn't see you in 2021 in Lyon because of COVID but I will wait until you're not to far for another tour. You rock!
Thanks for the storyline. Don't realize the meaning when I first saw the video.
Keep it up. Your right on track. Love UTA
The stan Roger's version is one of my favorite songs ever. Damn near shit my pants when I heard your version. You guys killed it
Best voice in metal.
I was heavily reminded of Blake Crouch's Sci-Fi Thriller "Dark Matter". It has a very similar premise to the video.
Less Highlander and Rick and Morty. Kinda reminds me more of that Jet Li vehicle from the mid-2000's "The One."
I love all these explanation videos. I love getting the artist's insider perspective. And I LOVE the music!!!
I AM SO HAPPY. They are my favorite.
A friend of mine copied me the Northwest Passage video on facebook yesterday...I've never heard of your band but I LOVE THIS SONG...the big themes, the amazing vocals you kick out...love it can't wait to hear more...been listening to this a lot in the last 2 days :)

A SPLENDID cover!!!
Thank you!!
My respect for this band just exploded when I saw the first two books from the Third Law trilogy behind Britney...those books are incredible...
I'm here for it! As a Canadian this is just awesome to see real history in metal. Thanks!
discovered this band this year, am loving every track I've heard, will pick up the album(s?) soon! Lived in Victoria years ago, would've totally gone to every show! Tell the drummer to keep the stache!
I have their album Time Stands Still. It's good.
I'm so glad I found you guys on youtube, you're excellent, keep it up!
Just came across this video the other day going down a rabbit hole when I remembered this song listening to sea shanties a while back and came across the cover; luckily enough, I'm a metal fan as well and loving the rhythm and vocals! You know, I didn't know how much I wanted this version of this song until I heard it, but well done!
What a product placement :P. I see Joe Abercrombie books behind You. I'm reading The Blade Itself right now :D
I noticed that, I'm about to finish Before They Are Hanged Now ;)
Their music fits that genre perfectly. If you like that book check out Brent Weeks - Way of Shadows trilogy.
Awesome cover and an amazing video. My favorite shot it at the gas station when the twizzler/redvine/liquorish slowly droops.
She's a Joe Abercrombie reader, too! Excellent!
It's a wonderful cover of Stan Roger's NOrthwest Passage, man!
Cried when I first heard the song. It's so powerful. And I love these explanations!
Anything from you guys is amazing. Hopefully the tale of the Immortal in Apex isn't over either.
Yep. Seriously a bigger fan after having my suspicions on the video confirmed. PHYSICS!
Awesome Music vid, and great explanation! Do please keep making these "The Story Behind''s for future songs. These are going to be sweet when the next album comes out!
First Law Trilogy right behind you! Hell yeah!
I'm a huge Stan Rogers fan and metalhead, so I really enjoyed seeing the two meeting in your music. "Northwest Passage" isn't my favourite of Stan's songs, but it holds a special place in my heart, nonetheless

It's like Jet Lee's "The One." If you haven't seen it check it out it's pretty good.
I bet that's the most you've said your own name in 10 minutes!
Love the song and the video!
Sustain the excellent work and generating the group!
Congratulations on the new track and music video!
