    You know you have a great stealth camp when even you cannot spot it!! I wasn't exactly stealth camping, but more existing in a budget shelter after my divorce. But I did find using cheap shower curtains provided waterproofing, also scrounged the reflective insulation, to hold in the heat, a small alcohol burner provided a cooker and heater. Still worked, still had a small car, thankfully, there was a truck stop nearby for showers and a laundry mat, and thankfully it was only for 3 months. One other was planting Citronella around to keep out the bugs!! Charging mice however, never encountered! lol

    👍👍👍 .. The Trangia Mini is a great little Set.
    I've enhanced mine with two inner-nesting bowls from a 70's 'Evernew Camping Bowl Set' and an outer Decathlon 'Quechua' One Litre Stainless Steel Pot. Not the lightest setup and definitely not for the 'If it's Tuesday, it must be Belgium' Speed Brigade, but returns most of that which I serve at it 😊.
    Filling the Trangia Burner with Glass / Ceramic Wool and Carbon Cloth has greatly reduced the risk of inadvertent fuel spillage in addition to making lighting up in below zero temperatures much easier. Burn efficiency does not appear to be overly compromised. Actually, the apparent more 'gentle' burn suits my style of cooking.
    A good share .. thanks .. take care ..

    I like the idea of using the bag so you don’t have to wash the pan after, my issue is always not having enough water. Don’t agree with getting such cheap equipment, it’s never up to the job, better get military surplus or save up for something that’s not going to fall to bits after a couple of uses. Not entering for the Trangia, got way too many mess kits, mostly mil surplus. Love cooking, love camping (wild camping, but I’ve always just called it camping- never wanted to stay on a site with loads of people),
    I do really enjoy your videos though, I’m not into gear snobs, all the “must have” equipment, I do however, like stuff that does what it’s meant to do, which is why I have a lot of mil surplus, especially the old canvas stuff, lasts more than a life time.😁

    • @lumpygravyalfresco82

      I disagree. I like many others don't have a big or even a moderate budget. So we have to skrimp and save. Its how shrewd you are and how you get the best use from something before you can replace it with a higher quality item. Just getting out there and enjoying the outdoors...with what ever kit you have..safely....is a start.

      I was in the army. Royal engineers in late 90s early 2000s... The gear they give you is shit, everyone immediately replaces it with their own gear they buy out of their pocket soon as they out of basic haha

    • @thomasmusso1147
      @thomasmusso1147 Год назад

      Getting cheap gear initially, has it's merits. Something with which to test the water before deciding to get more involved. Also, ideal for the kids for 'backyard camping' (mine absolutely loved it .. including the dogs .. a male Jack Russel and a female Pit Bull who would enthusiastically join in for the overnighters 😊). This also protects one's more prized gear from kids and dogs 😏.
      Mil Surplus .. a good way to go. I still use cook kit issued to me from the late 60's into the 70's.

    It's good you show you can start camping with next to nothing . Might give some people the inspiration to get out there . I've got some expensive gear but it all has a purpose and is small and lightweight for multi day trips . I have a lot of budget stuff aswell which my daughter uses to get out with me and it's stuff I lugged about myself when I didn't have the money for the better quality equipment. I use one of those tarps when I go fishing and set up a dry area with bunjees and have the fire underneath like a lean to kind of effort keeps the rain off you if it starts and don't need to get your tent wet going in and out in the rain .

    Big fan
    One thing though, plastic is stable at room temperature but is carcenagenic when warmed. That's why bottle water is an issue: if it's been sat in the sun at any point in its life, it can be dangerous (not like 5,4, 3, 2, 1, dead, but in the same way cigarettes are, cumulatively). Popping the food in plastic and heating it is not good. Those toxins leach into the food.

    Yey to the Trangia Mini. Typically, I use wood as a fuel, depending on location and weather, if not a Jetboil but the the Trangia Mini is still my favourite. So reliable and built to last and will out live me, I'm sure. I stopped using the saucepan a long-time ago, but still often carry the mini frying pan with me. Oh, Trangia do a little attachment that slides on to the bottom of the Trangia. It has a small wad of cotton to pre-heat it in low temperatures, and is a must (but quite expensive for what it is, I think I paid £15 or similar). Prior to this, I would build my own out of a beer can but having cut my fingers badly once, with blood going everywhere, I decided on the attachment.

      I've filled my Trangia with a loosely-packed glass / ceramic wool base, topped with a tight concentic roll of 'carbon cloth'. Why?
      The risk of accidental spillage is greatly reduced .. lighting the burner in cold weather (below zero) is a cinch and burn efficiency does not appear to be overly compromised. In fact, a more 'gentle' burn appears to be the order of the day, which suits my style of cooking.
