krakatoa exploded in that fashion cause its been building up pressure for over a million of years and that its chimeney was block by a lime stone bolder so when it erupted it couldn,t take the pressure that built up under it for all that time and it got weakened from the base to the top so when it reached it the end of its chamber limits the gas contains in the magma which had been compressed to almost a fusion point expended so quick that the volcanoe couldn,t take that kind of pressure and just got blown away like a little pile of sand . +Revenge Sniper The Ring of Fire is simply the border of the Pacific Plate. It has no magma chamber as it's not a volcano. There are many volcano along it. It's like you're saying your street is faster than my car.
+GeneralZeleck They are? Which ones? What would be the connection between a hotspot volcano in the North American Plate like Yellowstone and the Ring of Fire, the plate boundary for the Pacific along which many volcanoes necessarily occur? I'm a geologist so I'd really like to see the scientific articles you read this in, not that it would matter all that much since most other volcanoes are tiny in comparison.
Fenland Gunner It won't be one giant eruption. It would be multiple eruptions happening around the caldera at the same time. The only good news is that there is not enough melt, the more liquid lava, in the chamber to trigger a V8 eruption at this time.
@@somedudethatripsplanetinha4221 Not really. Utah borders Wyoming where most of Yellowstone is located, close enough to be very badly affected. Plus, just like the other person said, the entire mainland of the US would be affected in some way.
@@markwilson4078 heck I live 1300 miles east of Yellowstone and geologist claim that I’m still in a very high risk zone should Yellowstone have a super eruption.
From an Australian citizen's perspective, the 1883 Krakatoa eruption was loud enough to be heard as far away as Perth and Adelaide, distances of over 5000 kilometres. From the analysis of the Yellowstone National Park Caldera, ie, supervolcano crater, my estimation is the eruption could potentially be heard as far away as Tokyo, certainly it would be heard in Honolulu, showing just how destructive supervolcanoes are. Something to think about,.......but, not dwell on
Pack a good parka :) When Yellowstone does pop off, everything within 100 miles will be killed. upwards of a million in that zone alone. When the food chain collapses from the ashfall that will cover at least 50% of the USA, we're talking biblical level famine for years and a global wide volcanic winter for years. "The Almighty says you're fucked."
All empires eventually fall. The United States will follow that same path. Whether it's a natural disaster, or a war that takes out the USA or a series of bad presidents.
Kyle Rasmussen it is not 600,000 years over due. You're trying to use the last three eruptions of this hot spot to come to that conclusion, but using all of the eruptions tied to this hot spot gives you an average of 700,000 years between eruptions. There's also no such thing as overdue. It's not a clock.
Kyle Rasmussen it’s not 600k years overdue it happened 600k years ago so 600k years later is when it should have erupted again but it was dormant for 40k years
DarkMatterEXE They only started saying that to shut up the "Chicken Littles". It's still safe to say it *could* happen in the next year or in the next 50,000 years: we just don't really know enough about supervolcanoes to predict anything that resembles accuracy. Not a single one has gone off since the dawn of civilization. Hell, Europe only became aware of the existence of regular volcanoes when Vesuvius went off and swallowed two whole cities. When Yellowstone goes off, it's taking whole countries out.
waterdamnaged incorrect. We understand that you need a certain amount of melt, the more liquid magma, to reach a high enough explosivity to cause a v 8 eruption. All models point to needing the chamber to be filled with 50% melt before a large eruption can happen. Right now, there is between 10-30% melt within the chamber. If it erupts tomorrow, it won't be one of the massive eruptions.
yeah, only like southern and Northern California are somewhat away from the immediate danger, but the toxic gasses will eventually cover all of the west coast.

It would be multiple eruptions happening around the caldera at the same time.
The only good news is that there is not enough melt, the more liquid lava, in the chamber to trigger a V8 eruption at this time.

Denibeus its 600,000+ years over due....
Kyle Rasmussen it’s not 600k years overdue it happened 600k years ago so 600k years later is when it should have erupted again but it was dormant for 40k years
Landrar it’s overdue cause the volcano is dormant

This volcano erupts every 600,000 years, it has now been 640,000 years. I guess all we can do is wait in excitement for it to erupt. sounds fun
Every 700,000 years*
DarkMatterEXE
They only started saying that to shut up the "Chicken Littles".
If it erupts tomorrow, it won't be one of the massive eruptions.
iSuperUnreal Actually, scientists predict that it should erupt in around 40,000 years (just an estimation) it's not actually "overdue" 40,000 years
SOME GUY have you ever heard of a year without a santa claus?

Jay B the shockwave would prob completely separate the east coast from the west coast either that or the explosion
Masked Crispy the west coast would be wiped off the map and covered in 10 feet of ash
yeah, only like southern and Northern California are somewhat away from the immediate danger, but the toxic gasses will eventually cover all of the west coast.
