Highly HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY underrated band
No they were overrated for 15 minutes
Cold Blood is a good romp.
Highly underrated front man.
Absolutely!
To dedicate your life to Rock and not receive financial reward, yet still smile. That's True spirit.
I grew up in South Australia and somehow I got their first cassette when I was 14 in 1982, and I didn't know the force of rock and they actually scared me, True confession, there ya go :)
@@621retsamz I grew up in Sydney, and heard their song "Get It While It's Hot" from the Hot Metal cassette that the Hot Metal magazine put out, and was hooked at once. That Hot Metal cassette introduced me to Kix, Ratt (Way Cool Jr), Mortal Sin (Mayhemic Destruction), Ozzy (Miracle Man) are the only songs I remember off it.
The real, sincere people will do it regardless of how much "success" they have. The man is obviously the real deal. He seems like a kind, decent guy as well.
Don't Close Your Eyes will always remind me of a special time in my life. My best friend's brother had the KIX tape. So timeless like Cinderella's Long Cold Winter. Congrats on the timeless music guys.
"Don't Close Your Eyes" indeed is a masterpiece... timeless for sure.
Although that track is about a girl ( I assume one of them knew)’s supposed suicide attempt, though it is kept ambiguous whether it was successful or not.... a couple of the other tracks on the release namely “Cold Blood” and “Get it while it’s hot” should’ve received more airplay.
Both Night Songs & Long cold winter are solid throughout... but it all goes downhill during the touring period for Heartbreak station (and you probably already know about that, if you’re a Cinderella fan, that is)... Still Climbing is alright, consider Tom Keifer had come out of vocal chord surgery... Tom is also a great guitarist IMO at least.
I was memorized by the late 80' and early 90's rock and metal on Mtv. Once I found Metallica and Megadeth then it was all over for "Hair Metal" for me.
Kix and Great White were the 2 most underrated bands of the 80’s. Great bands live and great songs
I agree with you 100%
Saw them play together at Red Rocks
Great white was a lot more successful than kix
@@dawson1787 yes they were
I couldn't agree more. They are THE two most underrated bands from the 80s!
_Midnight Dynamite_ is still their best, in my opinion. Pure hard rock gold.
I was just going to say I know every single song on that album.. Great Stuff
For me their first album 🤘hooked.
Agree
When he says Midnight Dynamite didn't land...well, among my group of friends in Idaho it landed. We played the hell out of that album at parties (along with Back in Black, Appitite for Distruction, and Shout at the Devil among others). My first band was named "Scarlet Fever" as a tribute to these guys (plus we thought it was a cool name). Love this album.
@@BROU-bb2uc - yep, I grew up in central PA .. that 1st album is the soundtrack of my high school years!
What an underrated band!
Seen KIX 3 times! Every show was awesome! These guys are legends in Maryland and surrounding areas. We love KIX!
I'm from Maryland. I found nothing special about this band. They never progressed beyond the HammerJacks mentality of binge drinking. I saw them two nights at HJs and both nights they used pre-recorded backing vocals. Not impressed with them or Child's Play. WraithChild America smoked Kix.
I seen them once opening up for ratt I still have Steve's autograph in my scrapbook he is cool af and very laid back
@@Praetoria113-zm3no Thanks for sharing. Tell us where the YT video is about you and your life and we'll go over there and leave some negative stuff
@@Praetoria113-zm3no yea nothing special about them alright, that’s why they are still selling out shows and still bringing in new fans while what is Wraithchild America doing??
@@jordanspory7633 Who cares? Selling out shows? At what, carnivals? Kix is a joke. When's the last time they recorded anything? So, basically their playing shows using decades old material to the same crowd. No wonder Baltimore never gets anywhere.
They deserved SO much more than they got.
@Metalfan Rockfan Your problem is that you're thinking back to 1992. Of course the hair metal bands were going to go by the wayside in 1992. But those teenage girls who were listening to Nirvana and Pearl Jam in 1992 were listening to Poison and Cinderella in 1988. Which is my point--Kix's music was on par with bands of their similar ilk that were popular then. Kix may have been a laughing stock in 1995, just like Courtney Love, Garbage and Sarah Mclachlan would be unknown to the average teenage girl in 2020. Musical tastes change. Hopefully I cleared this up for you, Cupcake.
It could probably be a movie, They really got SCREWED, They are as good and as high energy and talented as ACDC
Kix were NOT a "hair metal" band! They were a HARD ROCK band around since the mid 70s, waaaay before hair metal!
Steve taught vocals at the music store I worked at in Lemoyne Pa. Thats where Lizzy took lessons. Steve is an AWESOME guy! My band opened for Funny Money often and I took some vocal instruction from him because I was singing 4 times a week and blowing my voice out to the point where I lost any high end to it. I walked into Steve's studio in the basement of Wrays Music House and the first thing he said to me was "Brian you know how to sing there is nothing I can show you that you cant already do. I am going to show you how to TAKE CARE of your voice. The best thing I ever did. Eternally grateful to Steve. My voice has changed through the years and I have adjusted but thinking about breathing and warming up and cooling down saved it! Thank You my Friend!
Great story Brian
Just saw KIX a couple of weeks ago at the Whisky on Sunset. In his 60’s and Steve still sounds great so I’d say he knows what he’s talking about.
Blow my Fuse came out my sophomore yr high school. Still listening to it today. Thanks for all the great music!
Probably one of the best front men to be onstage. and I really mean that
Steve is a super humble and self deprecating guy. Great interview! I’m going to fire up a couple old Kix albums. Keep em coming boys. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Blast a few of their tunes in your car with windows down sunglasses on 😎
I miss going to Hammerjacks and seeing these guys. It was great when they came down to Leonardtown MD to play a few years ago.
Mega Wow! This is SO awesome! Thank God Kix is back.
I bought Midnite Dynamite here in England in '85 on the strength of the cover alone, still love it! I moved to D.C. the following year to go to Georgetown and got to see Kix numerous times at The Bayou. Great live band.🤘
I remember in college KIX playing at George Mason Univ. and along with my friend we were in the restroom standing at the urinal and we look over at the urinal next to us and its Steve! We were like WTF!! He talked to us for a bit before having to head to go on stage. Super nice guy!! Use to go see these guys play all the time in DC at the Bayou!
Steve was my vocal instructor as a child and someone I have always looked up to and admired. His talent is obvious, his charisma is unmatched and his whole soul is in his music. Steve rocks!
Awesome
Oh wow! You are so fortunate. I’ve seen Kix twice and just absolutely love Steve’s energy. And wow. He still sounds amazing! He also seems like such an awesome and personable guy too.
Sister went and saw Kix back at the old Sandstone Amphitheatre here in KC. She said Kix put on one of the best kickass shows she ever saw and she went to lots of concerts back in the day.
I have seen hundreds of bands from the 70's until now and KIX had and still has one of the best live shows around. They are touring and if you get a chance go see them. Good time for sure
Just saw Kix, they were outstanding - still have it. Steve Whiteman is an incredible front man - VERY UNDERRATED BAND!!!
I wasn't even aware of these guys in the 80's, found them on SXM's Hair Nation and have been a fan ever since. The guitar sound on Blow My Fuse is amazing
That bit with splitting up the gear, actually getting together after a year and closing the book, what a cool thing to do. I have mucho respect for people who live like that. No drama. "It was fun, love ya brother, you take the board".
I sang in a band that played with Steve and Kix at The Network just after their Midnight Dynamite album was released. He was chatty, super talented, high energy. The whole band was something special. We were trying to make it too...and had cut some singles for 98 Rock in Baltimore. I later struggled with booze and decided I could not stay sober and continue that lifestyle...but I always remembered Kix and followed them. I think they are probably the most underrated rock band I have seen. You have to have experienced them live to really get the full feeling of how good and tight their show was.
By far one of the best vocalists! Still tearing it up today when as you know most singers just can’t pull it off anymore! Understandably!!
Kix is Rock n Roll.
Peace
I never tire of listening to these legends. They were the gods of our generation.
Blow my fuse was my 1st Kix album. Loved the sound of it.
Good interview. Honest guy. I wish him and the band the best.
Kix is generally a band that makes me feel sad because they were the first band that taught me how harsh the music industry is. I found kix on RUclips and was completely blown away. Another great band that even i being alive for 22 years never mentioned once, never said anything about how great this band is.
Don't feel sad. That's the business. Appreciate their music because its feel good rock and roll.
KIX at Hammerjacks! Damn I'm old 😆
Steve is one of the best guys you will ever meet.
I just can't talk enough about how cool he is 🎶🎶🎼🎼
KIX is amazing! Going to miss the legends after September 17th! Thank you for the music! Love from Jerry in Maryland!!!
Steve is badass and an awesome singer/entertainer!!! Blow My Fuse and Hot Wire are 2 of the best albums ever!!!! Love Kix!!!
Just saw them tonight at The Landis Theater in Vineland N.J. The entire band are really highly polished pros that look & sound great. These guys worked that place & the crowd went nuts.
Cali-native that loves KIX and the song's over the years since the 80's. Finally get to see you rock live at the whiskey a go go I pray this year as it will be my last chance to see a band I've been wanting to see live for years. Now hopefully covid can't stop the show. I'm disabled and in lots of pain as it sucks getting old ,but I'm going 600+ miles to come see you all jam. I'm so stoked and pray that the show will go on. Wish I'd seen you guys before when I was doing the strip in the late 70's-90's clubin on sunset in Hollywood. I sure miss those great days and all the great bands that came from them. KIX is one of the best and have all your albums, CDs and DVDs now. I haven't been listening to anything else for awhile now as your music is still rockin me at 60. God bless you all for this last chance for me to see you play live again. Hope to see you soon. KIX rock's!!!
Don’t close your eyes is one of the greatest ballads ever written in ANY genre.
Love Kix.
What a nice and humble guy.
The "Redneck Rocker" is the perfect, and very endearing, description of one of Rock-n-Roll's greatest singer/frontman! Cheers!
So many great memories following Kix back in the late 80's and early 90's. Me and my gang followed these guys all over MD, VA, PA. Hammerjacks was the best venue of course. Many front row shows. We would get to Hammerjacks hours before doors open so we could get front row.
I was listening to KIX yesterday yall kick some ass I would see live good tunes
Love KIX and will always go see them when close by. I still believe they should be getting more respect than they get. If you never saw these guys, GO GO GO WONT BE DISAPPOINTED.
Much respect for Steve and the KIX boys - loved 'em since '81 - highly underrated by too many!
Mark is a class act...have loved Kix from day 1...see them at least twice a year before f'n plandemic...still have tickets to 2 postponed concerts...can't wait to Rock my Face Off with KIX
since the early 80's, one of my FAVORITE BANDS!!! ...they will ALWAYS be in my cd player & in my rotation! thanx & god bless ya guys!
Will forever be one of my favorite bands!
Fantastic live band. See them every time they come back to Pittsburgh PA
I have been a fan since day 1. Steve is an impressive showman. My first Kix concert was when I was 13. Many years later I took my 16 year old son, who also was a fan, it was like no time had passed. So, much energy, made me feel young again!
A fantastic live band. Steve is a phenomenal talent.
Westernport MD, everyone I grew up with was "related" one way or another to Steve Whitman.
"Every" party I was at had Kix blasting on the radio...every, single, one.
P.S. Piedmont was, and still is as far as I know, a total shit hole.
Awsome hard Rock band of the mid to late 80s very early 90s.
No wonder why they're called KIX as they kix ass !!
Very underrated.
One of the best bands from the 80s. Blow my fuse and hot wire some of the best
Love these guys
I'M NEW TO YOUR CHANNEL AND I LOVE THESE INTERVIEWS!
They would come through the club circuit and when the played the Switch in Raleigh, NC, everybody would go - because it was a big, good-time party. They would spray the audience with seltzer bottles. Everyone was having such a good time. Steve was amazing live then and still is - if you get a chance to check out the live in Baltimore video - it's just beyond words.
That live Hammerjacks concert on here is badass. I saw them open for Whitesnake at Hampton Rhoads and man can Steve choke a harp! For Shame was amazing live with the whole arena singing with all the lighters.
Watched and admired em for years. Always 2x2 ads in the back of Hit Parader!
Rock on! Glad some success had been ongoing 🤘
I love you Steve!! 😍
I love their album Hot Wire! Luv-A-Holic and Rock & Roll Overdose are my two favourite songs of the album 🤘
We used to go see them at the RPM club below Pittsburgh many times and they played to all 11- 16 people there like they were playing to a stadium. Both KIX and Funny Money......after the show they'd come do shots and beers at the bar with us and just hang out.....awesome guys, best live band ever
I'm a VA local, been a fan since I heard "The Itch" the first time and have all of their CD's. They should have been HUGE in my opinion. Hope they put out another someday.
Kix was awesome! I still listen all the time to Cold Shower & Blow my Fuse. I loved them 🤙😎
Midnight Dynamite was (and still is) a phenomenal record.
Love the way Steve tells it like it is . Loved seeing you guys in the clubs and big stage you guys did it right!!
I'll never understand why Hot Wire didn't get the play that BMF did. It showed huge improvements everywhere. I love it and still listen to it regularly. BMF and Midnight Dynamite too. Hope I get to see them live someday.
I had "Blow my Fuse" played till the tape stopped working, never heard Girl Money till now, I don't know why they couldn't have had radio stations that played different styles of music, cause Bands like this could have found an audience and kept them, like Joe E from Def Leppard said "we never stopped making music, they just stopped playing our new music on the radio"
KIX is one of the greatest bands of all time,, in my opinion.. So underrated.
Saw them last night for the first time and they were great still sounding great after all these years
If I were one of these legends I'd be like, "can you just not use a filter that makes me look OLDER, for goodness....." haha.
This guy has looked old since the 80's 😁
I watched your channel for a few years too.
as a teenager in the mid atlantic area in the early 80s.i can back up what steve said about the regional success.you couldnt drive thru town without hearing at least 5 cars blaring either one of the first two albums.they used to play at a place in west virginia called shiley acres.saw them there.they played a good show back then.thanks for the memories steve.
Love kix...I've seen them l
four times here in Houston they always put on a fabulous show thanks for posting your energy as you do a great job😊
This is great stuff. Can't wait for the rest of this!
Loved them
I have been there following the Kix from the very beginning. The band house was right down the street in Hagerstown, Md. and the Infamous Mountain view Inn was a every weekend thing. After 40 years these guys still put on one of the best live performance's
I love kix
They came to an after party at my girlfriend's house back in 1987. Hilarious guys. Brian is super fun. I had a great conversation with him about how they did the guitars on the Rock Your Face Off album, which was very interesting. Great band - amazing live. Holy cow - like the record loud.
Saw them twice -- 2012 in Maryland, and 2014 in Pennsylvania. Both were fantastic shows!
She drank my Heiniken
She took my quaalude
She drank my JACK DANIELS
Then she said....ohhhhh I dont feel good
40 years after first hearing that song, I can still recite the whole "story" part of Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Friends and I listened to that cassette so much I wore out several tapes.
I'm from Maryland so of course i love Kix
I don't even know what to say, KIX is such a talented rock band and got the shaft. Steve was one of the best front man I've ever seen, and such a super nice person. You guys will always be on top for me❤
I love this Band !!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw them a few times in Raleigh, NC @ The Switch. Really solid band!
Steve is so hilarious. I would love to see him go into comedy. The road may be ending, but the music will never die.
I'm from Swanton. 10 minutes from piedmont. I have the first 2 records and been a fan since the beginning. Love these guys.
Nice to hear you say that, We know time doesn't stop for anyone. Take care of your self, and you guys rock! Still have your cassette with others and turn it up when played on series/XM radio in the car mannnnnnn. Thanks
SEE YOU GUYS AGAIN AT THE BOTTLE AN CORK! WE LOVE YOU STEVIE!
Somewhere around '86 when I was 16, my best friend turned me on to KIX's Midnite Dynamite tape and I was hooked. Been a fan ever since!
Such an underrated band. Still enjoy their catalog. Midnight Dynamite should have been a monster.
Great performer highly suggest seeing kix especially for your first concert
"Blow my fuse", one of top albums of the genre.
Was never really a fan of Kix but this guy is really humble and honest.
Kix rules!! Can't understand why is underrated
Saw KIX in a club in Boston - Midnight Dynamite tour.
I loved the album. The show was ten times better.
The next album. Great too. Those were tremendous back to backs.
I think I was there too, but can't remember the name of the venue. Was it a place in Kenmore Square kind of across the street from the bus station? I saw Kix all over the place around DC, MD and VA back in the day, then moved to Boston for a while and made a point of catching them when they came up. An amazing live show every single time. So good.
That was the show ! Kemore Square ! Narcissus !
Wednesday night = Heavy Metal night !
@@seagullpoet Yep, Narcissus - haven’t thought of that for about 25 years!
I saw Kix with Winger and Cinderella in Long Beach CA in 1989, and while Cinderella was the headliner, I went for Kix.... So F'n good.
Great band!
The first song I heard of them on headbangers ball was Cold Blood .
Charlotte NC, Steve. Yep ,we Love Kix down here ..... seen them 6 times
‘Cold Beer’ is my fave Kix Song. Cold beer is all you need
❤❤❤Kix
Kix remains one of the best rock bands on earth.
The dirty boys from Baltimore, definitely one of my favorites 👍👍😊
