      HUMUS agreed to hand over dead bodies if Israel handed over live Humus members and IDF left Gaza.
      Israel wanted live hostages and a list of dead/alive, to stay in northern Gaza.
      But I am sure you knew this already. This is why the US and mediators are trying to get a bridging deal in place by giving a little of both to both warring sides.

    So Blinken has only made a deal with Netanyahu that completely trashed the original deal because it allows Israel to remain in occupation of the Philadelphi Corridor and the Netzarin Corridor which cuts Gaza in half and allows Israel to continue the war after the hostages have been returned. Now he blames Hamas for not being interested in the new deal which bears little or no resemblance to the deal agreed by Hamas in May. Shouldn't the mediators be completely neutral? In all honesty, would the US have ended the occupation of Germany without Germany concluding a peace deal that entailed that Germany would never ever start a war again? I mean they can't just give Gaza back to Hamas.
    Nevertheless, that there is no alternative to Hamas is of course to a high degree of Netanyahu's making. The point is, if the US want Israel to leave Gaza, they have to push Israel to negotiate with the PA, not with Hamas.

      @@TommyV8898 It seems rather that the Israeli public is pretty indifferent to the plight of the Palestinians. What they are really interested in is (their) peace, like probably every other population around the world. Whatever is convincingly more likely to produce this peace will be embraced by the Israeli public. Unfortunately the peace process was followed by the second Intif*da, thus discrediting the peace process, while measures like the wall proved pretty effective in securing something akin to peace (for the Israeli side). That this temporary breathing space was not used for deepening the peace process but to get Israel and the West Bank more and more entangled by building scores of illegal settlements is a tragedy.

    Ceasefires are NEVER requested by the side who is winning a war, only the side losing the war. Can you see the winning side saying "please give us a ceasefire so we can stop pummeling the losers".
    Israel should only agree to a ceasefire if:
    1) All remaining hostages are immediately released unharmed;
    2) Palestinian leaders formally recognise Israel's right to exist as an independent State including ALL lands they currently hold (except West Bank and Gaza of course); and
    3) HAMAS surrenders all weapons.
