This is me desperately trying to figure out what Matteo Piano was talking about on Twitter. Thank you so much for the explanation I still have a lot of trouble understanding Italian so I was feeling a bit stranded.
I'm convinced the demoscopic jury is one big reason reason why the winner and Top3 of Sanremo are usually always liked by pretty much everyone (and therefore also perform well at Eurovision), aka safe. The demoscopic jury represents the tastes of the whole country, as opposed to just the Sanremo audience. I'm worried that replacing it with a radio jury will reward mainstream generic music that does well on the radio but doesn't necessarily connect with everyone (young and old) the same way. On the other hand this could also allow for more modern beats to get better results, and finally bring some freshness to the contest, where the same old ballads that older generations love so much often dominate. So it'll be interesting to see if the genres in the Top5 will change from previous years because of this. Will it be more modern but just as generic? Or will there be a more exciting fresh atmosphere? Don't forget that because of its old tradition, Sanremo is notoriously followed by an older audience, but has managed to attract younger generations in the last decade or so also by featuring contestants from all genres and age groups. I see this change of rules as part of the same effort into making the contest even more relevant in the modern music industry (although it already is, a lot).
Demoscopic jury doesn't represent anything and never had. It's not enough big to represent "the whole country" and the songs that did better in Eurovision like Zitti e Buoni have been destroyed by the useless demoscopic jury... The demoscopic jury is an obsolete thing that was necessary when there wasn't televoting and internet. Now it's just useless
That's not correct actually, demoscopic jury always awards the most known name, in fact they awarded Francesco Gabbani and Ermal Meta instead of Diodato and Måneskin (that then won Eurovision). Not forgetting that the demoscopic jury has put Måneskin in fifteenth place below some useless songs that now no one remembers. Thank God we got rid of it and we have the radio jury (that beforehand belonged to the press jury)
I get the importance of Sanremo, but honestly, the show is just exhausting for the average viewer. That’s absolutely no need to make contestants perform their songs so many times and I think the cover night is absolutely pointless. They should do heats 1 and 2, choose finalists and vote for the winner in a Grand Final. I’ve been trying to follow the whole show for so many years, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to stand in front of TV for 4, 5 hours for a whole week.
Sanremo Is a monument in Italy. I understand in other countries Will not understand the importance of Sanremo festival. It has the cost of and Esc each year, It's a big investiment for the public broadcaster Rai and produce much of Money. And It's the event most follow in Italy. This Is the reason of all. Sanremo Is followed and loved in all the world by Rai International and the italians in the world are more than 80 millions.

Demoscopic jury was Sanremo's cancer.
The crime of putting Måneskin 15th and Madame 20th below many useless songs still hurts today
