      Might have been good to note that b_i+i \cong b_j+j mod [period] iff i=j mod [period] for valid site swaps. So a 513 wouldn't work cause (5+1)=(1+2)=(3+3)=0 mod 3 and all land at the same time.

    Hello, Taylor!
    After your juggler's challenge this was a great help to understand where to get the meaning of those numbers!
    In Asia they say: you aren't your truly self, unless you try three different professions in this life, and in my humble opinion, your next step is DEFINITELY TEACHING!!
    Such a combination of patience, gradual explanations and pleasant voice!

    When I started learning siteswaps, I installed an app called "JuggleMaster" which can be found in the Play Store, and every time I thought about a siteswap I checked there If it's valid, the app really made siteswaps more intuitive. Recommended.
    Also, great tutorial, although I think the beat explanation makes more sense, if someone thinks of siteswap throws as heights it'll lock more "features" of siteswaps and will make thinking of siteswaps more difficult, but I do understand you are just trying to simplify things.
    Keep up the good work 👍

    That was an incredibly easy way to learn and understand siteswap, when I learned it around 15 years a go I found a really old book and it was a very theoretical explanation that became very confusing at first, and didn’t mention anything about how to know the number of objects, so I used my own intuition to find out with the juggling experience, now it would be easier to try new tricks, so I’m very happy for that. Thank you very much for doing this video

    I would add the rule that the sum of the digits divided by the number of digits equals the total number of objects. Seems like a much more basic concept to grasp vs the "letters". Also would avoid confusion about 2 vs 0 and what makes a valid siteswap.

    great explanation of the opaque and esoteric codework behind the arcane world of juggling. a code which is called, for an inexplicable and forbidding reason, probably lost in time or translation, 'siteswap'. ive tried several times to follow explanations; to get even a basic insight into its cunning logic but my mind quickly got muddled and i was reluctantly forced to give up my quest. this is the first time ive had the slightest clue what is going on. how one could actually use this unfathomable language of numbers in practice is another ball game entitely

    • @barneylaurance1865
      @barneylaurance1865 8 месяцев назад

      I always thought was called "siteswap" because the time and place a ball is going to land is thought of as a "site", and if you do a high throw and then a low throw the second throw will land first so the two balls swap sites, compared to the sites they would land in if you did a regular cascade or fountain.

    • @TaylorTries
      @TaylorTries  4 года назад +2

      Picking the right ball is tough, and there are a lot of factors! Are you mostly juggling outside or inside? On grass or concrete? Is wind an issue? The answers to these questions will help determine what ball you should use!
      As for your lightheadedness, make sure you are staying hydrated while you juggle. Drink water often! If the lightheadedness is from heat, try to stay in a shady or cool place when you practice, and drink a lot of water.
      I usually practice for about 2 hours. But I do it inside, and I drink a LOT of water. I also highly recommend that you stretch your neck, shoulders, and wrists before you do a long practice session. It’s possible you’re also getting lightheaded because you’re tending up. Try stretching and drinking more water and see if that helps ☺️

    What would be the siteswap for the 3 ball column pattern, I mean is there any number for throwing the ball straight up?😮😅

    • @TaylorTries
      @TaylorTries  4 года назад +1

      “Columns” or “the 1 up 2 up” is technically a synchronous pattern, which is not part of vanilla Siteswap, so it gets a bit more confusing. However, to answer your question about the ball going straight up, those are “4”s, because they don’t cross hands!
      The Siteswap for columns is (4,4)(4,0) which is a bit confusing because of the synchronous throws, but basically the Siteswap shows that the throws are 4s ☺️ It can also be written as (4,4)(4x,0)* depending on if you switch hands on the middle ball throw. But again, that’s more advanced Siteswap and I plan to make a tutorial on it soon!

    So the 3 ball tennis trick may be written as 533 ?

    • @barneylaurance1865
      @barneylaurance1865 8 месяцев назад

      No, standard 3 ball tennis is just 3. One ball is going over the top so although it's a bit higher the timing is still 3. You always catch the balls in the same order that you throw them, they don't "swap" in the air.
      533 would not be possible because it averages to 3⅔. The average of the numbers in a site swap pattern is the number of props you use. 711 is a possible pattern for three balls, but that big 7 throw would make it really difficult I think.
