  • Driverless cars are here to stay. They will park themselves, sync at intersections and travel at high speeds efficiently and safely. By 2040 it is predicated that accidents will be reduced by 80% as a result of this technology.
This video offers a forecast of the future of the car industry and an overview of the 6 levels of the driverless cars from the society of automotive engineers.

The future definitely looks interesting specially if it could reduce the rate of road accidents. What remains unclear though is would this lead to better traffic conditions and less congestion on roads? With missing traffic lights this would reamain a big question. Last but not the least while I love driving, I wouldn't mind being in a driverless car for long drives where one wouldnt need to focus on traffic and lane changing and speed limits!

Pretty soon the rich folk won't need the rest of mankind at all.

Driverless cars are definitely a thing of the future, and as someone who has had some involvement with the Blind in US society, driverless cars are quite a blessing. However, to ask if I would not have the option of driving, or of teaching my children to drive, that makes me more than a little sad. My first driver's license was a rite of passage. So was my first fendor bender, and just last year when a young gal bumped my fendor, I didn't get mad. I gave her a hug and told her it would be okay. This is what I think the person below was saying, and what I'm saying. Life is about people, our experiences, and our planet not necessarily about our objects.

That's a really nice story Rocko. Thanks for sharing.
Perhaps it will be a little like older societies where you had to kill an animal or survival a night in the wilderness as a rite of passage. In the future, they may see driving a car as a similar level of pointless danger
