I love the idea of smart mirrors, item assistance and not having to stand in a line but, as someone that does work in retail, I'm terrified of these benefits too. Retail is how the majority of my age group are able to work. If stores don't need someone to find items for a customer or serve them at a till then, the most common job on he market is going to be the most difficult to get just to earn minimum wage.
The best idea for the future would be to switch your phone off before going shopping or, better still, leave it at home. Who wants to be bothered with adverts on your phone transmitted by the shop you're already in? Aren't there enough advertisements in shops?
oh yes, there are advertisements in the shop but why stop there when we could live in a world with advertisements EVERYWHERE 🙄🙄🙄 Thanks for the comments Patrick
Let's add it's too damn rude to be on it when I'm trying to check you out! I don't speak anymore to these type of customers. I'm not competing for your attention, people!
Patrick McAsey I recently went shopping at Meijers in Grand Rapids. I received a cell phone call and spent time pacing the aisle. Security was on me like a hot potato. When it was obvious that I wasn’t going to steal they backed off. A bit. Turn your cell phones off. Big brother is watching. Boy was George Orwell right. (Wrong year.)
The smart mirror thing could just be a crowd puller than actually increase sales. One of the biggest challenges of e commerce since its inception has been that it never got people over their need to touch and feel the product before buying it. similarly i feel that even with smart mirrors people would want to wear product and feel how it fits. on a side thought, it could even be hacked into right? bit creepy
Something watching you and potentially learning about you and your style... Bit creepy? Probably! There tends to a be a link between foot traffic and sales so if it does pull a crowd it should lead to extra sales. I doubt we will ever lose our desire to touch and feel. The mirror shouldn't act as a standalone technology but rather be integrated into the process so it is easier to determine if you want to try on a different style or colour. Thanks for the comment Hilly
Agreed. The smart mirror just feels like it'll be for that person who takes loads of clothes to the changing room just to try them on for Instagram. Having a mirror do that that takes less time than changing clothes yourself with just be surrounded by ppl trying to use it.
Yeah I tend to agree. I think the nature of human interaction will change, less interaction in a transactional environment; hopefully more for deeper relationships
(shrug) if there is anything that the game Detroit Become Human taught me is that Robots will become more self aware and they can start to outsmart humans to the point where they don't them.
We'll still have humans on staff to do stuff robots don't understand. Basically human stuff to correct for human errors or creative chaos caused by either customers or lazy employees. Human contact is also good for teaching older customers how the futuristic experience works, so they aren't startled or confused by the processes and then have negative feelings about the brand or store.
Transformative technology will have such a big impact on the way customers shop - and the way retailers conduct business. Adopting this new tech, in some capacity, will surely be demanded of business owners.
Wow... the fifth technology, is so convenient, at first glace is like getting something for not paying it but today, this makes retail shopping even more awesome.
I like some of these ideas. The whole purpose of stores is to sell things that customers want to buy and if they're better able to match up buyers and sellers that's good for everyone. -- The problems come when all this extra data collected gets stolen by, or sold to people with more nefarious intents -- we know this can happen because it's already happens. It could even be as simple as some pervo sneaking peeks of undressed people in a fitting room with 'smart mirror'.
there is the classic store let's call it 1.0 products almost never change the owner chose the products it is boring now, there must be a new store let's call it 2.0 products always change people choose the products there will be via an app on the app, there is a huge catalog, people choose the products that will show up in the store. the store is constantly being supplied with the products people choose.
I've been working Retail for 11 years selling Men's Clothing and I can tell you from experience that most customers want to be assisted by a live human being.
Beacons are pretty cool... Never heard of them until I seen this video. I can see it being very beneficial but a lot of small businesses will rely on this and like we've been seeing, the standard for customer service will decrease. I can see them helping gamification etc. I do think there is a LOT more that can be done with just your regular employees. Yeah, delivering discounts straight to your device is cool but it lacks that human touch that you would only get from a member of staff.
i am mark, i work for the biggest MKT consultanting company in china. welcome to china and we can communicate about new technology about retail and marketing.
There is a few thoughts around this. Potentially there is a tax paid by businesses based on the level of automation, the higher the automation the higher the tax. The country then has an index based on the % of automation in the economy and based on this index an amount is paid to citizens. My view on the future is this - ruclips.net/video/fLSBpai9tE0/видео.html
The way retail is going, if you think about it, where thousands have lost jobs this year, where are they l going? Where are all the students going to go that graduate for example in head office roles, everything is becoming more expensive, including bills etc. Sorry but automation is the beginning of the end of humanity. Agenda 21 comes in to play for sure and as I have been in the retail industry for the last 12 years I have seen the decline and I have seen good people go. This is not good, we a use online shopping as do I, but in retail more and more stores are using self pay. Even when I call customer services for anything anywhere the staff are trained to discuss using apps or automated services... they fail to realise that promoting these things are actually putting them out of a job eventually. It’s all madness and I see great issues arising further over the coming years.
I been in the retail for 30 years and let me tell you guys something, everything is changing fast. There will be no more poor people. It will be all about the rich.... God Is watching this...
By the way, the penetration of ibeacon projects in 2020 is too low, because nobody install apps, again Seeketing technology is an alternative to send message by proximity without apps.
Consider nos to loose time with bluetooth beacons.... ratio of people with all the requisites are less than 0,5% of your total customers... even if you promote a lot!!!. Al retailers have tested yet... no ongoing projects at all...
Alex ... very interesting and entertaining video. People need to pay attention to what is going on and you provide a nice bridge to that information. Keep it coming.
I can't understand why everyone in the comments are so scared about emerging technologies? With every emerging technology, tons of new job requirements releases! Just have a look at the history of jobs roles and present job roles. For an instance, just see the different earning opportunities RUclips, Google, etc brought for individuals as digital content creators and marketers.. There is no life without evolution, otherwise we would all have still been in stone age.
I’d like to browse in a store then scan the item with my phone to maybe buy later. I want the beacons to help me find things so I don’t have to wander around the store. I want to be rewarded if I am a good customer. i want to be able to get instant feedback to the store through the app. I want to know what song was playing over the speakers, and maybe vote for which song is played next. I want to see where associates are in the store on the map and summon or call them through the app. I want to instantly pay for items from a roving associate and not wait in a long line. All of those ideas don’t involve bugging me. They are about making my life easier.
This video is very usefull. Can you make another video about new issue of retailing. Because i am interested about retailing and i work at retail bussiness
Stores would have more customers if they made their staff work, stop stinking up the place with fragrances, and turn down the garbage music that is way too loud.
At a general level, successful e-commerce sites reduce barriers to sales. Barriers include the delay between purchasing and receiving the goods and the fear that what you receive is different from your expectations. Any approaches, such as VR shopping, that reduce these barriers have the ability to drive sales. Specifically, I have not used VR shopping so while I find the technology exciting my concerned is that it is a gimmick.
I mean that it could well be like 3D glasses after Avatar was released. Everyone thought they were the future and there was significant interest in them however now, ~10yrs later, 3D is not the dominant format.
That beacon idea sounds so annoying. I’m sure their going to find a way around the consent. I’ll have someone text me the word Macy’s or some chain restaurant name and next thing you know I’m seeing adverts for them on Instagram and google! They’re invading way too much of my privacy just to push content to me that I don’t care about.
I'm not a materialistic or big capitalist twat but I'm tired of shoplifters ruining my work experience. We can't do anything about them and they leave dirty old clothes in our store while stealing the new stuff. I want a store that uses facial recognition to deter theft. In the case of grocery stores, facial recognition could be used to ID people who steal necessities like food and diapers to send them coupons and resources to obtain these items cheaply but legally.
there is the classic store let's call it 1.0 products almost never change the owner chose the products it is boring now, there must be a new store let's call it 2.0 products always change people choose the products there will be via an app on the app, there is a huge catalog, people choose the products that will show up in the store. the store is constantly being supplied with the products people choose.
Damn you could have fun with this tech. Stores could be really embarrassed when customers feel their space is being interfered with. I'd be tripping robots and deploying my micro-EMF wipe over the devices! 😂🤣
Hi Alex, i was amazed when I saw your video. I'd like to present it with our team department, just wanna share what the future shop approach will look like ;)
Yes, I bet we'll be able to buy them for our homes, so we can actually try on clothes from home, and avoid going to the shop completely. Great for busy people, and people who don't like in-store shopping. Also great for retailers, since they have virtual "personal shopper assistants" who make suggestions (ie: bots), and they can reduce returns dramatically, reducing costs and carbon footprint.
There's something wrong underlying all this. De-humanizing so much some processes might actually hurt sales. Plus, people like to talk to people for a solution-based approach to selling. So, as much as this is cool and all, there's no universal applications. Like Nordstrom would stop being Nordstrom if it loses their personal shoppers.

Update it’s 2020 : face mask and fighting over toilet paper is normal
That's the first thing in my mind :).
The smart mirror in store doesn't help. A big reason you want to try on clothes is to see how they fit you
My school forced me to watch this
The best idea for the future would be to switch your phone off before going shopping or, better still, leave it at home. Who wants to be bothered with adverts on your phone transmitted by the shop you're already in? Aren't there enough advertisements in shops?

Yea I tend to leave my phone in my car and take my iPod into stores I listen to music pretty everywhere I go

Turn your cell phones off. Big brother is watching. Boy was George Orwell right.

I predicted this a loooong time ago and even looked into it as a business service, buying clothing in a VR world.

U can actually buy a smart mirror rn it's called himirror
Agreed. The smart mirror just feels like it'll be for that person who takes loads of clothes to the changing room just to try them on for Instagram. Having a mirror do that that takes less time than changing clothes yourself with just be surrounded by ppl trying to use it.
I'm really into New Technologies but Human Interaction is kinda important for .. you know.. Humans
Yeah I tend to agree. I think the nature of human interaction will change, less interaction in a transactional environment; hopefully more for deeper relationships
Depends on the humans.
Joni Barton you mean the robots 😄
(shrug) if there is anything that the game Detroit Become Human taught me is that Robots will become more self aware and they can start to outsmart humans to the point where they don't them.

I hate changing rooms as it is. cameras in there? no thanks
A mall with facial recognition, smart mirror,no checkout exists already in China. It is not in future, it is NOW.
Where?
Step 4head some unmanned retail store in China
Step 4head Not yet popular now
@@王绎栋 Is there a link where I can read more into this? Very interesting
Well not i usa.😐😑
The real question is where is customer service going to because today service is aweful!! No wonder stores are closing!!!!
Jerry Adams I totally agree! You never get assistance when you need it and those long lineups at the checkout can drive you insane! 🤪
We need to be very careful where this is actually stripping away our rights and privicy.
Jerry Adams
So true its virtually non existent now.

how about more cashiers?
Cameras and tracking sensors in changing rooms, surely that isn't going to abused or hacked.
I've been working Retail for 11 years selling Men's Clothing and I can tell you from experience that most customers want to be assisted by a live human being.
You are correct
This makes me uncomfortable AF
I thought he said they are going to use "bacon" to enhance the shopping experience. I figure that is likely to work. 👍

yeah.... every one of these are horrifying when you think a micrometer below the surface
Yeah... with no jobs for anyone.... so no money.... so who’s shopping?
Good question. I suspect UBI (universal basic income) may becom part of the future.
Lifelong Learners who pays for that?

How much cost of smart mirror.
It is online now.
It's 2020. Most shops are closed :(
I really liked the video. I would like to share the technological news for shoe stores. Thank you very much.
Well I'm not afraid of any of these changes.. bring them on!
it is true... future is more ways for companies to sell.. sell .. sell stuff down our throat...
By the way, the penetration of ibeacon projects in 2020 is too low, because nobody install apps, again Seeketing technology is an alternative to send message by proximity without apps.
I'm glad that people can't shoplift anymore because the things will be scanned when they walk out the shop
Amazing video, congrats!
do you have script?

Nice. It's so simple and good for everyone.
Great video, thanks Alex
Shopping at mall is more fun than online crap...
Plot twist:- I'll buy a basic phone strictly for only shopping process.

If the staff actually helped the customer instead of running away from trying to stock shelves would be great.
The robot assistant in super markets is so creepy.
loved this video segment
Sorry, it is not necessary forget privacy to obtain visitor journeys, recurrency, etc.. please visit Seeketing to know more.
Great video
But what if you are always frustrated and have had a frustrating face all your life?
Este es el futuro, en uno de los sectores que más está evolucionando.
Tech is one thing, this is borderline criminal. No reason to have every store tracking me and my information. Good bye Macys
Privacy issues aside for the moment, it's a shame that more retailers haven't joined the party.
Please people can't even operate self checkouts without becoming a whiny little cry baby over it
Great information! I want more....! Please!

Retail 2020 | 5 Technologies that will change the way you shop
Will these technologies be there by 2020? I'm just asking because us humans should not expect too high on those.
That beacon idea sounds so annoying. I’m sure their going to find a way around the consent. Yeah expect to see a lot more robots by the time we get into the 2020s.
Lovely feed, looking forward to the future and more interesting feeds on technology in future fir consumer.
Thanks!
great thoughts on the advancement of retail shopping experience.
Wow its super super awesome !!
This... doesn't age well. Considering what happened during 2020.

5:05 that will conflict with the shoplifting laws.
Es un excelente artículo que compartí con mi comunidad de store planners.
Gracias. Me alegro de este valor agregado para ti
Technology that will change humans.
meanwhile in 2020 all we do is sit and stare , shopping is that even a thing ?
Good App Helps alot
All the retailers are broke, store closings everywhere, bankruptcies etc etc.
But we will always indulge in the Food, who needs clothes anyways.
More emf waves does not make for loving and happy humans.
Cheryl Jeffali you are wise.

The future is now! Damn

It is my life future.
I am amazed.
Interesting and very useful video ..... ^^
Hi Alex, i was amazed when I saw your video. I'd like to present it with our team department, just wanna share what the future shop approach will look like ;)
Thanks for the feedback Pauline. I am glad it provided value.
i like smart mirror i really inspire by the future ideas
thanks

very interesting video, I am just curious about how retailers would control theft with auto-checkout?
A lot of technology is not good for us.
Lets go 'Back to the Past', when we experienced the simplicities of life and felt good about hands on experience.
Did they have this technology in 1964?
nice project....
I will choose it.
Technology is really becoming more popular and the more powerful it gets the less humans will rely on others.
great! grazie

This did not age well
