Fabulous Video . . Just wish you could have caught the train exiting the south portal of Bootlegger Tunnel. Haven't been there since April-May of 2007 when 2 engines from a uranium plant in Findlay, Ohio were moved to the end of that spur at Potash. Think I could see them from a distance in your video. Excellent work capturing that terrain though !
Nature's beauty is simply mind-blowing here. The huge red rocks are stunning and the train looks like a toy compared to the massive rock walls. I'm sure it was a tough job building the track on this rough terrain. The potash factory is pretty cool especially with the gorgeous surroundings. The cut north of Moab is incredible, basically the train is running in a deep trench there. It's good to see you weren't the only railfan who chased this local. Fantastic aerial footage again Dan. The trip to Utah was productive and very successful.
You are right Z it is quite amazing. I am really glad I was able to get that deep cut to finish up the video. That spot wasn't even planned for the video. It happened by chance. I hope you will still enjoy more future videos that won't quite be able to compete with this haha!
Wonderful western scenery! Although, from growing up in the 60;s I was waiting to see a coyote fly by on an Acme rocket sled. Thanks for sharing this, I had never heard of this operation before.
Dan, you are correct, wow. You have out done yourself with your best yet. Simply beautiful. Very different scenery than here in Wisconsin. Thank you for what you do.
Hello from Barcelona, Spain We have potash mines here too. It is transported from the mine to the port of Barcelona in narrow gauge, for about 40 or 50 miles. Good video, as usual. Beautiful !!
Hello from Munich, Germany. Absolutely fantastic - a landscape unbelievable and with trains even more a highlight. I've been to Tehachapi Loop, to the Morants Curve and followed the Route 66 to watch trains and Cane Creek is another gem!!!
MAGNIFICENT! That is how the scenery looked on my 32-inch computer monitor. I was mesmerized by the rock formations and the colors that I was seeing. I wonder what this video would look like on a large screen TV. The potash train looked beautiful passing through all this scenery. I really enjoyed the closing segment of the potash train running through that rock cut. Thank you for this video, Dan, it was well worth waiting to see the potash train in this one-of-a-kind location!
Thank you so much Thomas I thought you would enjoy this! I have yet to watch it on my big tv but am looking forward to it. I could just stare at all the rock for quite a while. That last shot at the cut was actually not planned. I had just drove ahead of the train and jumped out to fly as soon as I was ahead of it enough which just ended up being right there. Pretty lucky on that!
HOLY COW! In this one instance I'm almost going to say, forget the train... Thank you for sharing some beautiful views and perspective that I'll probably never get to see otherwise!
Another great video production. You were blessed with a perfect weather day. Sometimes it’s so windy through there you wouldn’t have been able to fly the drone. Southern Utah is America’s best example of the layers of sediment and rock that remained after the Great Flood. Your video of the book cliffs shows this as well.
Oh really windy huh? If that's the case then yes I had some major luck because that could have been bad. No wind this day. Yeah the Book Cliffs makes that very apparent as well.
Thank you very much for uploading this video Dan. I agree it is an amazing and beautiful part of Utah. Excellent video as always. Only one train a week ! In Germany they would have closed this line long ago.
Awesome how beautiful America truly is especially when seen from a cross country travelers perspective. I got to see much between the Mississippi River and both coast lines as well as traveling up the various rivers in the middle of the country. And the military put me overseas to serve my country so I have ridden the rails abroad too
Great video Dan. One of our club members and his wife rode the Rocky Mountain Mountaineer on that trip. What beautiful scenery and you had a perfect day to shoot that footage. Just breathtaking taking. I am going to watch this on my daughter’s 85 inch Sony big screen in April. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work. Dave
Superb, Dan. The colours in the landscape are very similar to those in the iron-ore region (Pilbara) of Western Australia but the land formations are totally different to anything here. Stunning scenery.
A couple years ago (sadly before I had my new Canon camera), I drove my son-in-law out to Moab so he could take part in an endurance run. Quite fortunately, right upon our arrival, we caught the local just after it had exited the tunnel and started the climb to the upper plateau. I cannot begin to stress just how absolutely fantastic the scenery is along the route. It is unfortunate that the Rocky Mountaineer does not descend into the most scenic areas. I would also like to point out to those reading this, and contemplating a trip there, that you will need to plan ahead when dealing with the tunnel section. The highway takes a LONG route around it, so you should arrive the day before and find a camp area. There are hotels but Moab is now out of control busy with rock climbers and tourists. If coming from the east and a day ahead, I also strongly suggest taking the less used route 128 when you first encounter it on I-70. The scenery is FABULOUS and it brings you directly to Moab. From there you can go compass west to the Potash plant or north toward the junction with the mainline. Use your Google Maps for sure.
I've been a rail fan for decades and have saw a glimpse of scenery like this once in a while, but your videos are the best. I have a shelf train in my home office with typical scenery around the wall, but I'm believe I'll make one wall look like this.
This is so beautiful. I saved it to watch it again. And again. The way they cut the the slots for the is really amazing. the Rocky Mountaineer looks super cool. It's fantastic that your videos are watched around the world. I'm so glad to have found your channel, the aerial footage is breath taking. Thanks for all your hard work.
The topography terrain and colors are magnificent the coverage is outstanding thank you so much for making these awesome videos! I think this is my favorite one so far of your videos. The 🌙 @ 20:20!
👍💯Lot of railroading in the red rocks there. Those EMD's must make some thunderous sound off of those walls. Thanks Dan...happy flying and Happy Trails!🇺🇸
Another stunning video of location that I am very familiar with. I couldn’t believe it when I saw Corona Arch! You really outdid yourself with this one, Dan.
This is the most beautiful Railroad video I have EVER seen. Ten thousand thumbs up Dan. I am pushing the subscribe button now. Thanks for your hard work!
Thanks so much Dale I'm glad you are here! I don't know if I will ever top this video but I hope you will still enjoy more that I have to offer! This to me is the most spectacular piece of railroad in the country and potentially the whole world.
This is so stunning!!! The scenery is so breathtaking! Again, I’m so thankful for your videos. Seeing these beautiful areas I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. The train making its way against a stunning backdrop! You’ve done it again! Love it!
Yay thank you! There are two places in the country that are the most striking where railroads run in my opinion. One area in Wyoming and this place in Utah. They are both checked off the list now that I have visited this one!
What an awesome piece of the UP. I would love to try and model this on my N Scale layout, but folk just wouldn’t believe the colours are for real. Thanks again for this amazing video Dan.
I believe this is the first flyover video of this remarkable branch I've seen. The others were in fixed positions. This region of Utah is simply breathtaking, and as usual your captures of the area are marvelous. Well done, Dan. Another amazing video you've put together.
I have been to Moab a number of times and have always wanted to see where the RR goes. But time is always so short when I am out there on vacation. Everytime I am out there I do go to the south end of town to see if the Illinois Central semi trailer is still there on the right as you level town. The IC is my home town RR. Thanks for posting this.
Spectacular, as always Dan, and I am this close to agreeing with you on this being the most striking Railroad in America... While the scenery is unbelievable and where the tracks go is amazing, where I feel it lacks is in the word Railroad; it's not really much of a railroad, with just a couple of old SD70Ms and a handful of old hoppers once-a-week. Still, this is spectacular and exceptionally well filmed, but for rail-fanning personally, I find the Columbia Gorge hard to beat; spectacular in its own right and you'll miss a train if you get a coffee!
Really enjoyed watching this video. We live in Grand Junction. We have gone by this rail route many times on our way to do 4 wheel drive trails. Always wondered what sights were on that train route.
Cool footage. If I'm not mistaken, all Colorado River downstreamers should be thankful for this spur line. Without it the UMTRA nuclear yellowcake remediation in Moab (across from Arches National Park Entrance) would have been a trucking logisitical nightmare. The railroad has moved an amazing amount of the contaminated soils from the factory site to a special holding bunker somewhere out west. If the CO river would have had a cataclysmic flood the entire CO drainage basin could have been polluted into eternity.
I thought for certain that our trip was going to take us on to the east and follow the train through Ruby Canyon between Westwater, Utah, and Mack, Colorado. That's a gorgeous canyon, with the tracks often hugging the canyon wall on one side and the riverbank on the other. The view from Knowles Canyon Overlook is particularly special: you can look straight down on the train from 400 feet above! That canyon is a very popular float trip, too (so popular that now you need a permit). For what it's worth, I live in Grand Junction.
That is definitely a wonderful canyon as well but I do think this takes the cake. I'm actually partial to the Wind River Canyon in Wyoming and to me it is the most striking region but in general I think this is top of the top.
These Utah videos have raised the bar Dan! You will really need to work hard top top this series. You really should get up to NE Utah and shoot the Electric Coal Railroad Deseret Western. Have you given up on the larger DJI drones now?
Thanks a lot and yeah this is hard to top! Hopefully you will still enjoy more of what I upload that isn't quite as exciting as this! I still have my Inspire 2 and it is fantastic for fast pace chases but aside from that the Mavic 3 Pro is just so amazing. Being able to switch around between the three focal lengths gives limitless options and is so much more dynamic. It's hard to go back to the Inspire 2.
This video was amazing Dan! I am now even closer to a trip to the USA at the end of May this year. Then I will go to Cumbres & Toltec and Durango & Silverton. Hope the planning works out to be here on a Friday. 🤩 Regards from Sweden 🇸🇪
That's the best one in this state. But there are a few in the state that are great scenery. Heber valley railroad through Provo canyon has some great views but only with the steam loco. They are under restoration.
The scenery is INCREDIBLE. The rocks and cliffs, just wow. At one point it looked the train passed right by a hidden lush green valley.
Breath taking natural beauty. Definitely one of your best!
Thanks so much! Hard to get better than for sure.
Wow, someone did a heck of vertical cuts to get that track thru the canyon.
Blue sky, red land, green foliage, yellow locomotives-- absolutely gorgeous
Thanks so much!
Excellent video. Thank you! 7:58 camouflage freight cars 22:09 shiny rock looks pretty solid
Thank you!

Excellent work capturing that terrain though !
That is what I was shooting for but I was late driving up to the first spot to fly into that canyon. Just barely missed it... Thanks a lot!
Nature's beauty is simply mind-blowing here. The huge red rocks are stunning and the train looks like a toy compared to the massive rock walls. I'm sure it was a tough job building the track on this rough terrain. The potash factory is pretty cool especially with the gorgeous surroundings. The trip to Utah was productive and very successful.
The Cane Creek branch line was built by Morrison-Knudsen for the D&GRW. (Rio Grande) They did cutting-edge work at that time.
You are right Z it is quite amazing. I am really glad I was able to get that deep cut to finish up the video. That spot wasn't even planned for the video. It happened by chance. I hope you will still enjoy more future videos that won't quite be able to compete with this haha!
Spectacular!
Well done Dan,
Thank you!🍻
I WORKED UPRR TRACKS 23 STATES. THANKS DAN
drop dead gorgeous scenery, and I enjoy and appreciate your narration it adds a lot to your skillfully use of the drone
Thanks so much and for the narration encouragement!
Love the UNION PACIFIC!!!
Thank you Dan!
All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!
Thanks a lot!
Great scenery out west
Crazy amazing back-drop - the train drivers are the luckiest people in the world, what a view from the 'office'.
Excellent video as usual.
fantastic footage!
Love the view, love the music
Wonderful western scenery! Although, from growing up in the 60;s I was waiting to see a coyote fly by on an Acme rocket sled. Thanks for sharing this, I had never heard of this operation before.
Thanks a lot I'm glad this video could be the one to teach you about it!
If I built scenery like that on my model layout people would tell me it wasn't realistic! What an incredible setting. Great video!
Thanks so much! A couple of others have said that same thing now too!
Stunning drone footage of some beautiful red rock. This is amazing and the train really gives perspective to how vast this area really is!
Even being there in person it was hard to believe was real.
Dan, you are correct, wow. You have out done yourself with your best yet. Simply beautiful. Very different scenery than here in Wisconsin. Thank you for what you do.
Thanks so much Mike! I am still in awe that I was privileged enough to go there and capture this.
Just one word, Dan: AWESOME!
Thanks so much!

Great presentation video and audio. Well done!
Thanks so much!
Epic video stunning landscape excellent videography and tasteful editing excellent choice of music. You also do a great job of narrating.
Thanks so much and I'm glad you enjoy the narration! I was hesitant to narrate for a number of years.
Beautiful work, you have done this stretch of road justice! Next project, lets see something on Ruby Canyon....please!
Thanks so much John! Oh I hope so one day but this is all very far from home for me. The next big thing is 4014 next month!

@@TheRailfanDan you are welcome! and thank you so much for your excellent videos

Another stunning video of location that I am very familiar with. I couldn’t believe it when I saw Corona Arch! You really outdid yourself with this one, Dan.
Thanks so much Rick! That shot with the Corona Arch has to be one of the top railroad shots in the whole world in my opinion.
Stunning video. I love that area, such incredible beauty!
Probably the most spectacular piece of railfan footage I have ever seen. FANTASTIC! Great job, Dan. Thanks. (Loved the Music).
Thank you so much Tom you're too kind! Even being there in person is hard to believe is real.
Solid presentation. Thank you.
Great scenery with a nice train view. Very good drone video-photography and flying! A inspiration for all us drone operators! Well done!
