Just the sort of breaks we love too. We had three nights near Bedale in Yorkshire last week. A very basic site though I do like an electric hook up for my hairdryer and coffee machine! We spent about £160. Most of it was fuel. The site was £20 per night. We visited two National Trust properties, no charge as we are members, dog friendly too. Love to cook our own meals. We had two treats, a coffee and an icecream. Lying in bed looking at the stars and hearing the dawn chorus, we wouldn't swap it, you can keep your fancy hotels! Back on the road in two weeks and we cant wait! Three holidays already this year and many more to come.
Hi Andrew, lovely to see You, Absolutely Loved the Content of this Video!! I'm so pleased You will be Returning to Finsbury Park later in the Year & can enjoy what the surrounding Area offers. You looked so Chilled Out sat in the Caravan & out on the Grass with Dougal & Ted! When you're in Lovely Place or Your Favourite Place it does Wonders !! I'm like You on Steam Trains, Lovely. I'm fortunate in that I only live around 40 Minutes by Car from Whitby (My Favourite Place) It's nice that there are quite a few Cafés that are Dog Friendly too. Thank You for Sharing, Lots of Love to You,Dougal & Ted 💖💖💖💜💜💜 XXXX
Great video Andrew! I've only recently gotten back into watching your videos again and once again you have me lusting after a caravan. I've been trawling your back catalog of videos and this really took me back to when you did the living simply series and how you don't need to pay out thousands of pounds just for a break when you can explore the UK at a fraction of the cost. Simple and less really gives you more. Loving your EV rig adventures as well definitely is a different approach against the societal norm and you are absolutely nailing it in showing what can be done with EVs.
Absolutely great, dear Andrew, to be part of your travels again. Covid and Brexit have prevented us to visit the UK again, but, boy, do we feel tempted to cross over again with our campervan any time soon. All the very best 🌈🌈🤓😃👋🏻👋🏻
Dougal is a different dog now with Ted on tow, he looks more happy and content because he has a best buddy. I know your vid was aimed at us humans, but I just seen Dougal and Ted in their happy space. Love all your vids Andrew, keep up the good work
Whitby smoked kippers are superb - brings a tear to my eye just thinking about them. That campsite near Pickering looks idyliic though you did get the weather - we are looking at sleet here this week as the winds come in off the North Sea. My son and his partner live in York - a fabulous city to visit but even better to live there - they can afford to rent City centre and they have a great lifestyle
I'm with you in every single aspect. And even using an EV as daily commuter, hooking up 2t and going from Germany up to Lossiemouth would be more time consuming than my days out of the job would allow me.
Lovely. I'm (Brit in Bavaria near Hymer HQ) waiting to get electric BMW iX1 and want then to get small Adria or Weinsberg as have 1200kg limit. Kia EV6 with its, 1600kg & V2L adapter, was my 2nd choice. Now beginning to regret it!
Lovely idea for a video. A very enjoyable watch and you’re 100% correct. One can travel the world , but everything you really need is right on your doorstep. I personally gain great enjoyment from camping here in Ireland, (albeit with heated camping ‘carpets’, inflatable sofa etc etc). As you said Andrew, it’s simply to ‘Smell the grass’, and be close to nature. Over the past two years, I’ve ventured off on rental motorhome holidays to the West Of Ireland, definitely beats camping when the winds pick up. Great to see Dougal appear to have a new lease of life, with more energy with Ted by his side. 🐶 Again, lovely video.
Oh wow Andrew! This was a fantastic video, so well written, filmed, edited etc. I enjoyed it so much, I'm going to watch it again later! See what you mean about concentrating on quality instead of quantity. This was one of your best, I am unanimous in that!! Lovely to see Richard, god that man's got style, he invented the word!! Both of you together in your leather pants, I've had to have a moment to get over it! Please, we want more of the same!! Glad your mum got to see Uist and stayed with you and spent some quality time with you and the boys, cherish those times. Ted is so cute and lovely as well as Dougal. They are brilliant together, loving the running sequences and Ted brings the ball back like Dougal! Your are very good at training and all that hard work has paid off! I can't wait for the next video now especially if they're all going to be as fantastic as this one!! Keep it up, take care and well done on a brilliant piece of work, brilliant! Sending love and hugs xxx 😘🥰🐶🐕❤
"A poor life this if, full of care, we have no time to stop and stare." Another excellent video, Andrew - thank you. Looking forward to the Adria review, too - it's certainly a handsome-looking machine!
When I saw the model trains exhibition, I immediately wondered if you still have your Suitcase Train. And then, the people who made it were on screen, and you answered my question. Good video and better than good, it is useful.
I love camping so much. Brilliant video, thank you! Ted and Dougal are adorable together. Let me know if you are ever in the Lakes and would like to visit the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. 😊
Brilliant MrD. Am currently laid back in my caravan at Patelely Bridge. Watching this was like having relaxation therapy. Thanks for all your efforts. As usual top notch. 😊👍
Hi Andrew. Totally agree. We have an annual parking pass for Rutland Grafham and finally Pitsford Reservoir. Not overnight but at least once a month we go out in our Motorhome for the day. A good walk. Watch the wildlife and lunch in van or in the Waterside cafe. It's only about an hours drive from us. Couple of hours snooze and off home. 🤠👧👫
I totally agree. We travelled just 35 miles to Barnard Castle for a short break in our campervan. We booked from Monday to Friday, then added Friday and Saturday and last night decided to add one more night 😊. It’s been lovely.
As I mentioned a while ago, I don’t comment much on any social media, that doesn’t mean I don’t watch it! I am so happy Dougal has taken to Ted, I worried he may feel his gorgeous nose pushed out by a cocky puppy, having been the top dog for so long. I needn’t have worried, they are clearly bonded. This makes me happy. What a life they lead. Any space for a little un Andrew? 😉
Great video Andrew! It’s nice to see you enjoying yourself and nicely chilled out! The dogs are as cute as ever and getting on nicely :) The Adria Altea Dart looks lovely and lightweight too from what I’ve seen online. I’m looking forward to seeing your review of this caravan it looks really nice! I especially loved when you parked opposite your car as you was charging it and was able to sit in the caravan in luxury!
Thank you for sharing, what a lovely week combining your interests, nature & relaxing ! We love your new setup and always great to see Dougal & Ted 🐶🐶 health happiness and well-being really came across, we could feel your joy and relaxation !
A great video once again Andrew. However, whilst this example and break is amazing, its a limited market I have to say. After 30 years of caravanning, I was tasked with getting a friend a break with his family over easter week. I was shocked to see prices at the club site at Kendal for £52 a night. Has it been so long since I used to go away for a week for that? Your example would please many young families also, but only if their interest was kindled..... While ever companies take such liberties with school break prices, those planes will keep flying.
Loved this video Andrew, so simply and succinctly stated, we only started our camping adventures when we retired from our high pressure jobs three years ago. Only wish we had discovered this sooner. Loved the look of the CS near the North Yorks railway. We really like the CS sites for their often 'off the beaten track locations. Thank you for taking us on your journey!
Thankyou so much for that video, my wife and I have just returned from a week in the Lake District in our caravan with our fur baby Penny. Life is quite stressful at the moment for my sister and I as we are caring for our 94 year old father who is starting to show signs of dementia. Prior to going away I was very anxious and stressed with the situation, but I can honestly say that the few days away from home and out in the open air brought me back to some sort of normality. Our caravan is our happy place and we are looking forward to our next trip in June. Thankyou Andrew, Dougal and Ted for a truly heartwarming video 👍👍👍
I love that Adria. I had an Adria Adiva previously and we loved that caravan and wish we still had it. Nice to see you enjoyed North Yorkshire. Our caravan is currently sited for the season at Rosedale Abbey, so Pickering is only down the road. When you visit again, try and visit the museum and engine sheds at Grosmont. I’m sure you’ll love it 😊
Fourteen minutes and fourteen seconds of pure joy Andrew. What a delight to see Dougal and Ted so happy together. I was going to suggest acquiring a telescope to complete the great outdoors experience but that would possibly open a trap door to bankruptcy! Happy travels boys.
I'm relaxed just watching this one. I am a single parent to 1 dog and 1 human and caravaning seems like a great option for some low stress holidays. No airports or worrying if my 2 year old will cry the entire flight. Maybe i'll be able to afford it one day.
Interesting that you post this Andrew. Since I sold my campervan last year I have been thinking of what my camping might look like. Over Christmas I bought a tent in the sales, so this year its really back to basic and simple camping! Will be trying it out soon in my beloved Pembrokeshire ❤
Hi Andrew, great video, you guys are so lucky to be able to combine caravans & trains! Wonder when Statfold will open a caravan park, would make a stay perfect for us train nuts with a caravan! Cheers Kerrin
Fantastic Andrew! Best video I've seen in quite some time, very enjoyable. We're away in the caravan next week for the first time in 18 months, and this has got us even more excited to go.
Hi Andrew, Dougal and Ted, you are so right. Coco and I stay local ( the midlands ) as its about a relaxing time not a stressful long drive. Unfortunately we are stuck at home at the moment as I had no water or heating due to the exhaust burning a hole in the fresh water tank ( so the dealership mechanic said ) on our recent holiday. I’m awaiting them getting a new tank and repairing the heater, hopefully it won’t be too long. Thanks for another relaxing video.😊
Hi, another great vlog , although we are not in a position to purchase a caravan , I know it can be a great holiday as we had some great camping holidays as kids . Loved the footage about the trains and as always Dougal and Ted . Andrew you have done a great job with recall with Ted , unless you are very good at editing ( which you are ) and have cut out the bad bits 😂. But seriously Ted is coming on great and Dougal , Ted and you look like you’re having a ball . Another calming vlog 😊
Great vlog, it explains to our family why we just bought a Motorhome when we and our dogs, live between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean! Even slower living. Thanks.
A real thought provoking video there Andrew. We sold our caravan last year to have a bit of a break from it and try different sorts of holidays but we are really starting to miss it
A very wise choice indeed, Sir! The only trouble is they've become victims of their own success and the 2023 build sold out roundabout Christmas time I think!
How lovely. Looks like that was a wonderful trip for you (& the boys). Can't wait to get out in our Adria again - short journeys or longer. We often end up booking extra days if they're available :) Interested to look at CACC in comparison to CAMHC - CL prices seem to be creeping up. We don't need all singing all dancing - we have the Adria facilities. Sometimes just watching the world go by is quite enough. Taking a look at Pickering -thanks for the info.
Great to see this! Im from across the channel, the netherlands. Love to see people also use the caravan to go off gridd and use it as intended. Unfortunatly lots of people use it as a go to one place, stay there for 3 weeks and go home.. also great to see the possibilitys with the EV as a towing car, even as a big battery, is this a special option on the car or all evs can do that? Love to watch this
Hi Roy, to my knowledge it's only the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and VW ID Buzz that have Load Transfer/V2L (vehicle to load) but I am sure that as new EVs are launched/refreshed then this will become more and more common. Thanks for watching.
Hari OM I am just relaxed watching all this! I need to go back and take note of those places, as I am rather fond of heritage rail rides and life in the slow lane. With all good luck, by the end of this week I will have my new van and the change from sticks and bricks to life out in the wilds and can begin true and proper... Dougal and Ted clearly are loving the life. Who can blame them. YAM xx
Great life style advice! I traveled 30 miles from home during Easter Break and did the some as you with V2L on Ioniq five! Would have been interesting to see if you or I could have done it without burning gas! (Heating caravan and water, cooking from portable induction and air fryer) maybe next time!
That would be interesting Christian. As my cylinder is refillable it's deffo cheaper than using electricity at 35p/kWh. However, the price of Calor might be a whole different story! Thanks for watching.
II love the quietness and calm of your videos makes me want to leap into the screen and join you.Thank You Andrew and gor sharing your beautiful dogs.Pkease more videos.X
Thanks Susanne. However, to maintain this level of quality reduces the output to once a fortnight I'm afraid. I'd rather do quality over quantity. Thanks for watching!
You are so right Andrew. Lovely video. I have a micro motorhome, and sometimes a friend and I will just drive a couple of miles to the local park. Pop the gas on- brew a cuppa, have some special biscuits, sit and chat and knit and we feel as if we have been on holiday… de stressed. Less is more.
I only go off grid now, despite having a fully loaded van, I find the connection to nature is greater than a commercial site and the money savings are considerable. I find off grid much more relaxing and enjoyable than a commercial site with arrival and departure times, plus numerous rules.
Another lovely relaxing video, so wonderful to see Dougal and Ted enjoying their holiday together. Your cooking always looks amazing. Last weekend we camped in Kent and for the first time we used the Bright Spark toaster you recommended in one of your Scottish videos a while ago, it's amazing, I've shared this product with a fellow VW Campervan and dog walking friend, and indeed with the Bilbo's VW Campervan owners group.😊. Looking forward to following in your footsteps to these areas in your video. We love C& CC club and CS campsites. Cheers Andrew. Dougal and Ted xxxxx
Thanks for this video Andrew. I have just got back from Hong Kong and I can't wait to hitch up on Sunday. So much much more fun and so much healthier. Regards Tim
My neck of the North Yorkshire woods! I've also stayed at that CS. It was very good, very near to the NYMR and to Pickering Town centre with its independent shops! Mind you, it was the wettest week ever when we went, but we can't blame the site for that...
Hi, loved all your informative videos from getting the Ev6 onward. At 65 years, I want to start caravaning! (not since my teens!) But with an EV6 which may be my last car! (I tend to keep them 10 years. A couple of Qs... Have you looked at towing a folding caravan? Is there a way of telling the EV6 your towing width? I've watched and read about all cars in the group and the EV6 knocks them for me all including tesla y: my original choice!
Hi Grant, I'm with you on the decision process in arriving at an EV6. I've not yet towed a folding camper but very much hope to soon. I don't think you can tell the car the width of your trailer - simply if it is small, medium, or large. I select Large for the caravan and the car's calculations regarding range are very good. Cheers!
Superb video. Thanks. All the editing must have been really hard work but, let me assure you, I found it delightful to watch, and so relaxing. Please feel free to exhaust yourself (and of course the dogs) for our entertainment any time you want! Thanks again 🤗
What a lovely time! SO my situation is. I never go to a place to “see things” That’s were the problem lies because when I get to where I plan to go I then wonder what I am doing there!😅 What a numpty! I’ve been Caravanning for the last four years and apart from our fantastic “Freedom” rallies I just turn up to places fill the fridge with loads of stuff I bring home with me and walk around for a few days. What a laugh! Thank you for your video inspiring as ever! ❤ Peter.
I do think the upfront cost to get the caravan is a big turn off though. It’s certainly holding me back. The Adria you have in this video is £25k? That’s a lot for most people to be able to afford. What I wonder would a £5k caravan be as stress free? Do older caravans get issues in the same way as older cars do? That would be an interesting comparison. That Adria looks lovely though, it looks more modern than my house!
A £5k caravan is good purchase, and it'll get you in to caravaning, and then if you do take it up then you can invest in a more expensive one later on ,no need to go out and buy a brand new one because they are an expensive investment, find out if you like it first before shelling out for a brand new one
I have to put my hand up and never thought of doing this what a fascinating video thank you so much. We live in the peak district so there are so many local places, brilliant video especially on the health side as myself and wife live very stressful business lives this may well be the medicine we need :) Thanks andrew
Ted is growing up and has settled in well and looks to be a good companion to Dougal (despite what some predicted when you got him!!!) I did read that heritage railways were being forced to take old carriages out of service because some numbskulls were unable to figure out how a manual carriage door worked!!!! Please tell me this is a late April Fools joke?.... I despair at the way society is going...
Oh my, I haven't heard that one! I think there is something about needing secondary locking apparatus, but NYMR simply has manual bolts for this purpose. Yes, sometimes I despair as well.... :-/
I think when you say it is low cost is very misleading. You are in a caravan that is valued at about £30000. Even paid off over 10 years this is a cost of at least £3500 per year. Add in storage costs, insurance xosts, maintenance costs and increased fuel costs and you are talking £4500 a year at least. Ok, at the end of the ten years you can trade your van in but you won't recoup more than half of the initial outlay. It's a bit misleading to suggest that the only costs are £10 per night. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's a wonderful way to see the country but it's definitely not cheap.
I know I've only just got home, but watching this makes me want to go straight back out in the caravan! :)
I know that feeling.
It does look lovely! Very relaxing too.
We're going away on Thursday in ours, can't wait. 😊
Lovely Pictures. Thank you for taking us with you. Have a good time and hugs vor the Dogs. See you soon. 😉
Thank you for sharing us another relaxing video about your camping live.
I enjoy very much.
Nat Rail Museum & Pickering et al is a fab way to relax that what we like too. Good price for annual ticket.
Just the sort of breaks we love too. We had three nights near Bedale in Yorkshire last week. A very basic site though I do like an electric hook up for my hairdryer and coffee machine! Lovely little vlog, was just the tonic just watching it! Got some handy vegan food ideas, too. Cheers!
Excellent Andrew Caravans, Dogs, Trains and Friends what’s not to like. 😁❤️🐕
Smell the grass, brew the tea. I like that, it hits the nail on the head. 👍
Ah, serenity.. And leather pants! It's been a while.. Great video as always!

One our favorites, you really captured this week beautiful
Ditto everything Anne said! One of your loveliest films, thank you. 👏👏
Thanks Anne! No pressure then? ;)
What a lovely vlog, we love your dogs 👌👌
Really enjoyed this vlog. Made me feel relaxed excited about going out next week again. Sorry but the dogs steal the show ❤❤
Just bought a Bailey D4-4 having sold our gorgeous Opus camper after 7 years…. Looking forward to more adventures, great video thank you 😊🌱🔆
I put all your videos on full screen. Much better. I felt like I was there with you. Love the steam train. 😎 ilona
It was lovely to meet you there Ilona!
I know Dougal is a master vlogger but, Ted is coming into his own, also. They’re both so funny together. 😂👍❤️
That looked a lovely way to spend a week Andrew you all looked relaxed, fabulous! Tracy
I love being in a caravan, I don't do any socail media it is a perfect break. I am a Yorkshire girl', so happy yourself, Dougal & Ted enjoyed it.
Oh and the boys are loving life too - clear to see.
Hello Andrew! Ted and Dougal are the stars of the show and really sooo adorable again in this nice video!! Kind regards from Belgium, Harald

This was a beautiful video. Thanks for sharing it, and greetings from Valencia(Spain)!
Brilliant MrD. Am currently laid back in my caravan at Patelely Bridge. Watching this was like having relaxation therapy. Thanks for all your efforts. As usual top notch. 😊👍
Love watching Dougal and Ted, yes apart from the driving I reckon caravaning is the best tonic. Thank you Andrew and take care.
The only trouble when we go away in the caravan is the wife doesn't want to go back home..she wants to keep going!!.😂😂♥️🇬🇧

Thank you for sharing, what a lovely week combining your interests, nature & relaxing ! We love your new setup and always great to see Dougal & Ted 🐶🐶 health happiness and well-being really came across, we could feel your joy and relaxation !

Couldn’t agree more camping is so relaxing, especially with the right people. The model railway were very interesting 👍👍👍
This is my kind of break, and precisely the sort of thing we're hoping to do with our recently acquired caravan.
Dougal and Ted are such Good Boys 🥰
Outstanding as always. Loved every second of this one. ✊❤️

Interesting that you post this Andrew. Since I sold my campervan last year I have been thinking of what my camping might look like.
Over Christmas I bought a tent in the sales, so this year its really back to basic and simple camping!

Hi Kerrin, I did see a caravan park there but I think it's only opened up for events - it didn't appear to be open on that weekend. Cheers!
Thank you so much Andrew 🎉🎉🎉🎉 we also love caravaning 🎉
This was a really superb video, Andrew. I have no doubt our paths will cross at some point. Keep up the good work :)
Lovely video. This year I will only do vacations close to home and in nature. Thank you 🎉for inspiring videos.
sei bravissimo😊
Fantastic Andrew! Best video I've seen in quite some time, very enjoyable. We're away in the caravan next week for the first time in 18 months, and this has got us even more excited to go.
Fab! Have a great time S&D :)
Oh no! Hope you get sorted soon.
Great video as always.
Ha ha! No, Ted is a good boy and his recall is getting better. My bill for dog treats is HUGE though :)
Great vlog, it explains to our family why we just bought a Motorhome when we and our dogs, live between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean! Even slower living. Thanks.
A real thought provoking video there Andrew. We sold our caravan last year to have a bit of a break from it and try different sorts of holidays but we are really starting to miss it
That's interesting. I'd deffo miss a caravan if I didn't have one.
Cracker vid AD, glad to see the boys are getting on. Keep up the good work!
Many thanks Chris!
Totally agree and loved the video - we just bought our Elddis Xplore 422 only after a couple of trips are we realising how good a van it is.
Unfortunatly lots of people use it as a go to one place, stay there for
3 weeks and go home..
also great to see the possibilitys with the EV as a towing car, even as a big battery, is this a special option on the car or all evs can do that?
Love to watch this
Hi Roy, to my knowledge it's only the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and VW ID Buzz that have Load Transfer/V2L (vehicle to load) but I am sure that as new EVs are launched/refreshed then this will become more and more common. Thanks for watching.

I am just relaxed watching all this! YAM xx
Oh my word, that is awesome news Yam! Enjoy! :)
soooooooooooooo cool, thanks Andrew...I want a Ted and a caravan...100 quid a week, omg
So true. We have a break booked 20 miles from home to get away, outside and reconnect ❤
100% Sarah!
I only go off grid now, despite having a fully loaded van, I find the connection to nature is greater than a commercial site and the money savings are considerable. I find off grid much more relaxing and enjoyable than a commercial site with arrival and departure times, plus numerous rules.
100% agree Mathew! Thanks for watching.
Thank you
Another lovely relaxing video, so wonderful to see Dougal and Ted enjoying their holiday together.
Sounds brilliant, Janet! Thanks for watching.
I’m not into trains but I loved that video, it was a calming joy to watch, thank you.
(not since my teens!)
But with an EV6 which may be my last car!
Cheers!
Thanks for reply. Interesting.
Search Gobur caravans. Very clever. I wonder how weatherproof!
Have you ever tried a Trigano Rubis 420DD or similar poptop?
It looks great for EV towing!
Superb video. Thanks. All the editing must have been really hard work but, let me assure you, I found it delightful to watch, and so relaxing. Please feel free to exhaust yourself (and of course the dogs) for our entertainment any time you want! Thanks again 🤗
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
❤ Peter.
Thanks Adrian for this great video! Let's hope it will motivate people to think about where to go and why.
Dougal and Ted? Where's Jack and Mrs Doyle?😅
Ours is 2005 and still good. Just usual service and maintenance. It looks a bit dated but is very comfortable.
No bother. I think we are almost bullied into 'further bigger longer' when in reality we have most of what we REALLY want on our doorsteps.
Ted is growing up and has settled in well and looks to be a good companion to Dougal (despite what some predicted when you got him!!!)
I did read that heritage railways were being forced to take old carriages out of service because some numbskulls were unable to figure out how a manual carriage door worked!!!! Please tell me this is a late April Fools joke?....
I despair at the way society is going...
Oh my, I haven't heard that one! I think there is something about needing secondary locking apparatus, but NYMR simply has manual bolts for this purpose. Yes, sometimes I despair as well.... :-/
Hi Andrew. Have you watched "The Tim Traveller " The Food Restuarant where its delivered by Train. On RUclips. Worth watching. Cheers from old George
YES! I enjoy his quirky videos. All the best.
@@andrewjditton OK Andrew. I thought it was great. Happy Adventures. George and Jane
I do mention the initial outlay.
