Ah, thanks Robin. I love this. Always come back to basic, because everything is built on your basic. This is also a nice little warm-up for a class session.
Glad you're into it Marcus, thanks! The more I've danced, the more I've realized that focusing on the basics, enjoying them, milking them for all their worth, adding your body movement, your energy and all that is where the magic really is. -Robin

I'm not sure if you have one but I'd love a video focused on shoulder movement. Mainly in free steps but also with the partner.
Thanks

I've been looking for a video like this for a long time -- thank you so much!!! I wanted to ask if you have a version on2, I'm beginning to transition and plan to see if I can adjust the timing on my own, but would love to have someone to follow along with
Hey Saba, really glad you found it and it's helpful! I made a mini-course / play list called Finding the Beat which has two On2 videos at the very end, but they're not quite like this basics routine. Nevertheless, take a look at the end of this playlist and thanks for watching! ruclips.net/p/PLzGRdLHrtfBwCPD27hvxH8uvx0pA3ovxM -Robin
Excellent! Not as simple as it seems, and I've danced for a while. Favorite one of yours yet!

Hello ! Very useful, thank you . The challenge I am facing right now is social dancing. I take regular lessons (6 days / week / 1 hour each, for 3 months), cuban style , and when I'm on the dance floor on social, I forget :( or lack of imagination to put all the pieces together. Any suggestions ?
My question for you is what are you practicing 6days/week? If you can't remember anything when you go social dancing my guess is the issue is in what and how you're practicing. If you want to be a better social dancer you have to practice things that help you become better at that: know individual moves, their names, how to combine them, the structure of a song etc. Are you doing that? -robin
Love this ❤️
Thanks Kathleen!! Appreciate you watching, have fun :) -robin
This was incredibly helpful
Super glad it could help! Thanks for watching -Robin
Really great practice!
Glad you enjoyed Olesia, thanks!
I loved that. Thank you

The 1, 2, 3, then skipping 4 to 5,6,7 really gets me 🤣🤣🤣
you can count the 4 and the 8 if it helps!
Wow , amazing ways to try basics steps , really appreciate your sharing , will surely try to do practice & work on same on socials....with love & light energy from india.
Happy you enjoyed! Thanks and have fun practicing. -robin

you're welcome Kyle! -robin
Iy was fun 😍😍 thnku so much
Glad you had fun Alisa! :) -robin
Hi Robin, first of all congratulations for your channel which has been very helpful and always full of helpful and professional advices, I would like to ask you if is there a way to be able to dance with any stile of salsa, because I have been before cv19 attending LA classes, but my social are mainly with Latin people who dance Colombian,Cuban, and I end up having less fun than who doesn't. Take classes at all.
Also I find difficult dancing slow songs.
Plus I have been chatting with more advanced people who enjoy now just festivals no even social..I want to have fun with everyone everywhere anytime, what are your advices thank you in advance.
Hey, thank you, and that's a really good question. I think i'll make a video on this! My quick answers: 1) yes you can dance any style of salsa. There are stylistic differences but in general the same principles apply to all styles - you just have to know what they are, and then try dancing those styles to get the feel for them. 2) Advanced dancers may prefer festivals because they can find other more advanced dancers there. It's not necessarily because they don't like socials, but in some communities there are not a lot of motivated dancers, and so if there's advanced dancers who are high-achiever types who love self improvement and growth they often get bored always going to the same places and dancing with the same people who don't value improvement and growth like they do. 3) Being able to have fun with everyone comes down to two things in my opinion, developing your skills so you're always improving, and having a fun and playful attitude - the way you do things is often more important than what you do. Give people your best energy always. Hope that helps for now, I'll likely make a video like I said because this is a topic so many people are interested in. You're not alone! By the way, if you haven't already tried our online course definitely try it free for a week here and pick up some new skills: thedancedojo.com -Robin
Thank you for your answer Robin, really appreciate, I got in mind other 3 topics that may help you create a video, and me understand more:
1)Before the lockdown in the usual social I was creaving find someone LA and intermediate, because I was a some point not clear on leading beginners, or not patient..
2)I also loving the music and care a lot about my "esibition" instead than connecting with the partner, selfish would say
3)I would love to learn some tricks, the one that make the dance experience with me fun and different with the surprise effect.
I was definitely having problems with timing and I have been working on it.
Obviusly I am telling you all the little problems, obviously there are a lot of good things and experience that make this hobby amazing and unique.
Love dancing and the people like you that give us the opportunity to grow and understand more. Thank you man.
I definitely will use your resources!
Thx for the vid, my goal is to improve since I have stoped 15 years agos!
Right on, you'll get it back with practice! -robin
Dude, awesome video
Glad you like it man! thanks -robin
@@thedancedojo I did this ever day for one week, and I kid you not…I saw immediate improvement on my timing and flow with partner work…. Much more smooth… I’ve only been doing this for two months and I got told I’m a great dancer multiple times. This practice video really does work
i thought i was doing okay till trying to follow this. wow the foot work is crazy hard

@@thedancedojo thanks i signed up, looking forward to getting my foot work improved! im a canadian that lives in puerto vallarta mexico and the cuban club here is super fun to go to so having some moves is a must!
@@badtostada6123 Right on! although we dont teach cuban style (aka casino) the footwork will still help your coordination :)

Greatest challenges...turns without losing balance, Suzy Q's!!!
Thanks for letting us know Mia! -robin
Do you have a similar exercise for Bachata?
No, I don't. -robin
I don’t have a partner to practice with. But I want to get your course...is that ok or do I need to find someone??
Hey, I'd definitely suggest going for it and learning what you can solo (shines, body movement, turn technique, musicality etc.) and then you can do the partner work whenever you find a partner. We'd love to have you! thedancedojo.com -Robin
I'm trying this. It's tough. I'm not designed for this lol. Tall and big feet. But I will try.
Anyone can learn, regardless of height, foot size, age or skin colour. We've got you!! -Robin
Anybody have anymore tips for salsa dancing!
Just take a look through our channel :) -robin
Hello! Thanks a lot for this video☺️ i struggle with my upper body, It kind of stays still
You're super welcome! Body movement is a huge challenge, for me too. If you want give the 1 week trial a go - the body movement module in the course is super helpful. link is in the video description :) -robin
You can use a chair for a pretend partner. Keeps your dance frame strong. No slouch. Even a broom etc.
I find I prefer to practice without an actual object. I haven't found something that simulates a partner well enough.
LOSE THE TIME WHEN I FINISH A TURN
Should the girl start on the opposite foot to practice?
You can do it however you like. The convention when doing shines (dancing solo) on1 in classes is that everyone goes forward on1 (lead's timing). When you dance on2, everyone goes forward on2 (follow's timing). When dancing solo there's no rules, so you can use whatever way works best for your brain. Just know that in classes it will typically be done as mentioned above :) -Robin
@@thedancedojo thanks for the reply!
Do men always lead with left foot ?
yes! traditionally leaders start with the left foot and follows with the right. -robin
A few counts at the beginning would have been helpful for the beginners. I was lost for the first 2 minutes.
Thanks for the feedback and for watching! -Robin
I need to learn how to dance with a partner and not take the lead. I really never danced with a partner.
It's a cool and useful experience as a lead or a follow. Definitely worth exploring. thanks for watching! -robin

SUCH a Gringo!
hahaha
i liked at 5:35
It's good to try some different shapes and directions! -robin
struggling with slowing down
Happened to me as well at first. With practice you'll ve able to adjust to any speed! keep at it and try something super slow.thrn a slow song will seem "normal" -Robin
Salsa practice looks like a guy who has some memory problems...left home...and it is what it is.He should choose a direction to go back home;-).Still he undertsant any mistake can be fatal and get him miiiiile awwway...so..
Or you can just go to a Zumba class. :) There's usually same solo salsa there.
It's great fun and a workout but it's normally with an instructor who doesn't know anything about salsa. So it's not great for improving salsa specific skills.
Wayyyy too hard for beginners
You'll get there! After you go to some basic classes you'll be able to do it :)
so complicated
Can't please everyone I guess!
not as cool as märt stüff
I've been doing this almost every day for a half a year, amazing! Thank you so much! Greeting from Hungary!
Wow Laszlo, that's awesome. thanks for telling me. do you feel a differemce from when you started? so glad you're enjoying :) -robin
@@thedancedojo Yes a lot, i've started everything with your video, then searched for like other ones also. If this COVID situation ends, i am planning to go on classes in my area.
