I owned a genuine Trueno (pronounced like two words, true no) imported from Japan. It was a hatch back too not the coupe. Tought me how to drive hard. Had twin carbys, hks cams and a trd diff. Terrorized my local neighbourhood in that thing, revved to around 9k. I remember seeing Yamaha stamped on the head or inside the head when I did new rocker cover gaskets. Wish i still had it but it taught me well and led me to more powerful cars that i drove the same 👌
if only they were still findable in the US. I have been searching for 7 years and still have yet to see one for sale. The guys who have them never let them go
"fun ae86 fact: the original diff that was used in ae86’s was a 1.5 way LSD &..." Hopefully this doesnt cross as some kind of "ackchyually" douche'ness, but this "fun fact" isnt actually accurate. The stock ae86 lsd wasnt "any way" (Though IF we were to pick anything, it would be more comparable to a 2 way lsd). 1, 1.5, and 2 way lsds function by a set of cams at the end of the pinion cross shafts, which sit between 2 pressure rings. Where they interface with the pressure rings are ramps, and as torque is applies, the cam pushes against these pressure rings. As these pressure rings get forces "out", they push on the clutch packs inside the differential, the more torque is applied, the more they lock up. The cam in a 1 way LSD is designed only to push against the ramp while accelerating. A 2 way has a mirrored cam profile, and applies even pressure when accelerating or decelerating, with a 1.5 way having a more gently profile on the "Decel" side of the ramp, applying less lock up while braking. The factory LSD inside the ae86 has none of this. Instead there are 2 "clutch members", and these clutch members press against the clutch packs. However instead of a profiled cam pushing into ramps, inbetween the 2 clutch members are just some springs. And thats it. The spring pressure is what provides all of the pressure against the clutches. Doesnt matter if you accelerate or decelerate harder, the pressure is always the same. Theyre actually notoriously weak, and famously wear out quite quickly. There are companies that make beefed up springs so apply more pressure, as well as more robust and thicker clutch discs, but theyre still quite limited in comparison to a 1/1.5/2 way lsd. Hopefully this clears up any confusion. Cheers o/
i had a red AE86 as my first car before they were cool, still have the receipt from it costing me a whole $550. My first car love and wish i could have 1 again but definitely don't wanna be paying today's prices for them
I mean ke70s are good but nothing beats the sound of a 4age at full noise with itbs I love how my ke70 sounds but definetly needs a 4age in it she's getting tired haha
Bro please. Not to be a downer but throwing an initial D clip in after every pull and talking over the car to say how awesome it is again and again is really not necessary. I just wanted the sound to last more than 30 seconds

fun ae86 fact: the original diff that was used in ae86’s was a 1.5 way LSD & they were popular in not just drifting but rallying and circuit racing

I recon you sound like a flog talking the car down. You’ve owned one car
Clearly has mild cams which is not matched to the ITB’s and long runner header. And could use a shorter final drive.
