you know i am not a historian but I could tell you about my experience in my ancestral house. the video majorly talks about the city which I believe were more common in the south eastern part of india. We have an old house that is around 500 years old in the northwestern part of India (M.P.), and yes, most of the houses had an indoor courtyard. it did actually had large wooden columns which had beautiful carvings . we also had a small fountain(which sadly didn't worked today) . in the village there were many trees around which podiums were built for people to sit, when I was young I use to see elderly people sit there all afternoon and talk. more over my aunt house was like one of the largest house in the village with a ~4 story high cylo , it was really beautiful. but sadly all this luxaries were only common among "higher cast" and the houses of lower cast were small and in the outskirts. 😔😔
You family has a house that is 500 years old? That must be amazing to visit and grow up in. Just imagine the lives that lived there. The people born and grown up and died. It's truly fascinating

Sri Lanka was to India, what Korea was to China. Same Culture and People historically, But settled down in a different region, which was too far away and developed their own Culture, History and Civilizaiton. There was some influence of course even before Buddhism, But they had their own Unique Civilization identity.
India itself is a collection of many dozens of kingdoms and cultures. The difference with China is there is a dominant Han Chinese culture, while in India it is decentralised. In the grand scheme of things, the Sinhalese are just another one of these cultures who altogether form India. Think of it, Kashmir to Lanka, all of it is one greater civilisation.

@@xijinpig8982 China too was united only after 300 C.E. Before this, Chian too was a collection of variois Kingdoms, Called the "Three Kingdoms Period" and sometimes even 5 Kingdoms. Same is true for Greece and most Nations of Europe. Perhaps you are not aware, India was called Bhaarat in ancinet times and united many times under Kings like Bharat (The first Legendary Emperir of india sometimee bfore 3300 B.CE who united 16 Kingdoms of Ancienet India into a Republic), Harshavardhana in 700 C.E, Ashoka in 100 BCE, Samudra Gupta in 400 CE and Marathas in 1700 CE etc.So India was united and fragmented many times. So it call stil be considers a Civilization, Just like Ancinet China, Ancinet Greece or Ancinet Persia..
My point flew way over your head. Yes, India has been mostly united many times. But India is culturally decentralised, and thats a good thing. Especially by language. China has a large majority of the same culture (Han Chinese), and this culture is representative of China as a state. For this reason, China also has ethnic minorities, like Machus, Mongols, Uyghurs and Tibetans, who are constantly oppressed and their cultures pushed aside in favour of the Han Chinese people. India does not have a dominant ethnic group. Kashmiris, Dogris, Panjabis, Marwadis, Mewaris, Gujaratis, Marathis, Tuluvas, Kannadigas, Malayalis, Tamils and so on are all separate ethnic groups that altogether are different cultures that make up India. The same way, Sinhalese people are not so special that they are much different from all these Indian cultures and ethnic groups. Look at the larger scale of things. Sinhala are people are just another South Asian ethnicity. India is a union of thousands of different South Asian ethnicities and the only difference is Sinhalese are not currently part of this Union politically. They definitely are culturally.
⭐ Let me clarifiy some doubts you have asked during the video, - ancient indian currency is called "rūpya" (from this the word Rupee) came, rupee means silver coins, and the same word is now used in all the places where indian influence was there till today, and there are many names for currency used to be there during each era, but mostly they call it gold as gold coing and silver and other names in local languages. - yes plastic surgery, mathematics, geography and all was common here in india, like how gallelio was k*lled because of telling earth is sphere, that non-sense was never there here in religion, infact we never had religion and science as separate thing, infact most of the indian scholars and scientists were very religious, because it was encouraged.you can read all the historical sources available. most of what he mentioned is available in archiological sites and in written history, and most of those dumb comments in the video is by a section of people who always does this in many videos, they create fake gmail accounts or fake insta id's and name them with indian hindu names and puke all the negativity, everyone knows here by now that mostly muslms from pakistan and bangladesh does this, and some sitting in india does this as well, it's because they just don't want others to know about pre-islmc era of india, till now since our independence even in my school days we remember it was always talked and lied about how great islmc invaders were, because our 1st education minister was a hardcore extrem muslm, and since then it was continued, now when finally the native culture hindus are started talking openly about indian culture, these things have gone up by them. and let me tell you most muslms are less educated in india, that is reflecting in our literacy numbers, they still like to live in poverty with their religion. 🙌 and these things won't be told in media, but public knows that.

This is a common confusion. Maurya Empire was started by Chandra Gupta Maurya. "Gupta" was a Title here in his name, Not his name. It meant "Of Secret origin". The Timeline of Mauryas as accepted by Historians is 321 BCE to 185 BCE, With the decline of final king Ashoka who conveted to Buddhism and Empire broke up due to Ashokas heir not assuming King. (He preferred to becomer a Monk and abandoned the Throne to the Ministers to manage). With this, came the Declien of Maurya Empire. Gupta Empire was started some 400 years later by descendants of Chandra Gupta Maurya (Dont ask me how, That is what they claimed), This was a diffrent Chandragupta, called Chandra Gupta I. His son's reign was very famous and is equivalent to European King Arthur's Golden Period - Chandra Gupta II (aka Vikramaditya). He battled Scythians and Huns and defended India and established the Gupta empire, Which was such a stable period in indian History that the Famous "Silk Road" began. So, This Timeline of Gupta Kings is acepted by Histprians to from 300 CE to 550 C.E.).
10:45 Bro not 500 BCE, the video is talking about Indua Valley Civilization, between 2500BCE and 1750BCE. Bro Indus Valley Civilization was way ahead of its time. It had proper toilets, sewage systems, proper grid shaped roads and town planning(you can see in the animation), used burnt bricks, not stones like others, pottery. In fact, INDUS VALLEY CIVILISATION WAS THE FIRST IN THE WORLD TO DISCOVER COTTON. Demand of cotton was hugeeeee among the Greeks and Persians. And these all happened between 2500 BCE to 1750 BCE.
Do you not see basic things in the video. The video is actually only talking about 500 bc and taking patliputra for example. You take it to be indus valley because it is the very same description of the cities. Same to same. 😂

Toilets and sewage are basic and common features in all ancient Indus Valley civilization cities. They were so greatly planned constructed and maintained that today's systems will appear inferior. But sewage system is still existing.
This public toilet is appearing more like Roman toilets and Turkish toilets. It is surprising because in most of ancient text there are descriptions of bathing on the banks of rivers and bathing areas built on the banks of rivers. But this kind of Hammams are not existent if I am not wrong

52:50 I think that many people have certain biases themselves and don't want to rectify it.
yep. They're not ignorant, just uncomfortable even considering counterarguments to their own frame of reference.
Yeah everyone is biased. It's a learned thing. But we can also learn to be unbiased
sri lanka not related to indian civilisation? dude im odia and many of our ancestors moved to sri lanka and developed into the sinhalas of modern day. they are mostly buddhists and buddhism started in india, culturally and in culinary many of our aspects are there in sri lanka. i have a few sri lankan frienss and they agree that they were influenced by us and descendants of us.
these ultra pro nationalists from india's neighbouring countries are heavily anti india and they ignore facts for their ideology to be stronger
Well even just a few thousand years ago the land would have been fully connected because of the sea level. And yes I know about Rama Setu, I'm talking even before this time
Sri Lanka was to India, what Korea was to China.
⭐ Let me clarifiy some doubts you have asked during the video,
- ancient indian currency is called "rūpya" (from this the word Rupee) came, rupee means silver coins, and the same word is now used in all the places where indian influence was there till today, and there are many names for currency used to be there during each era, but mostly they call it gold as gold coing and silver and other names in local languages.
Thank you so much for the explanation

You're correct. The deity with the mace is Hanuman. The mace is associated with Hanuman from the Ramayan and Bheem from the Mahabharat. Btw, my ancestral home in Kolkata where I grew up is a courtyard mansion.
I think you should dig through Indian Vedas .. Specifically ayurveda. That will blow your mind because in India we are also amazed how those things were possible 🫡

Megasthenese is not from mouryan era but from Gupta era around the time of Alexander
Yeah the video covered a wide frame of time
Megasthenese is fdom Mauryan dynasty. He was ambassador in Chandragupta's Court.

@vugbeshbara1103 I said that because town planning, covered sewage system, grid roads, burnt bricks, administration and lifestyle were all advanced since the IVC period not just 500 BCE. Do you not get basic things??
@@i.kaushik_san this video is not talking about indus valley civilisation. He mentions and refers to timeline of 500BC in many places
@@vugbeshbara1103 I know, I tried to point out that the things in the video are practised/found since IVC
@@vugbeshbara1103 Just like Westerners consider themselevs proud descenedants of Romans, We Indians consider ourselves proud descendants of Indus Valley people. Its the same Civilization in the same place, Just a different timeline.
Don't believe in Aryan Invasion bullshit spread by Communists and Westerners. Indus valley civilization has more things in common with HIdu Civiliation than anybody else !!! i suggest you read the Mahabharata, Hindu Epic which describes Game of dice, Culture, Capital Cities, Horse Carriage, Archery and Palaces with Bath-houses. The exact same themes appear in Indus Valley Relics found by Archaeologists.
If you still dont believe me, Look up the Indus Pashpati Idol. It is a man emditating while a Bull and Tiger are shown obeyting him. Who is this mysterous figure ? Its th HIndu God - Shiva !!! Shiva sits on a Tiger skin (The Tiger he slew) and has a Bull for his Loyal companion. Same themes.. Same Civilizaiton. Only a Westerner with prejudied views and Limited knowledge would deny any link of Indus Valley with Hindu Kingdoms of the past.
Riligious tourism was a big thing in ancient india, older people would travel chardham which is one of the goal of hindu belief and shakti pith.

Ancient India is generally considered around 5000 years ago and they used stones rather than wood from what I know from history. 8:10 Not only tourism but health tourism was a big thing in ancient India. Many royals from central Asia have been known to visit Indian cities for this reason. 10:00 You should read about the great bath in the mohanjodaro and harappa (not sure which one of the two it was because I learnt it about 20 years ago in school). 56:55 You don't know about the biggest university of India since 2014, a.k.a. Not all temples survived thousands of temples were destroyed by Islamic invasion but still many survived
The reason for survival of those temples is due to efforts of local population to restore it in the caeses were even restorations also failed temples are permanently lost
In South many temples survived compared to North because Islamic rule in South is not as prolonged as we see in North
Yeah, so many temples were destroyed. Good on the people striving to repair and restore them

I'm bit skeptical about his sources. Because....modern India is like totally opposite to what's said in the video
it has definately downgraded a lot but most of these info aren't wrong...even if you go 70-80 years ago from now...the housing system, the courtyard houses, the market system are very much more managed than current times and is in a way similar to how it's said in the vedio....if you follow up with The Book of Courtesans: An Anthology of Classical Writings on the Courtesans of India or alka pandey writings....you'll see many similarities....as someone who was very connected to the rural part of india...(i stayed in my grand parents house for 4 years)....the housing and drainage is advanced for the time it was build in....the architecture is really old and hasn't been reconstructed in a long time...ANCIENT INDIA WAS MUCH MORE CIVILISED THAN THE MODERN INDIA...AND MOST EDUCATED INDIANS AGREE WITH THAT SO SOMEONE WHO HAS ONLY SEEN THE CURRENT INDIA IT COULD SOUND SKEPTICAL
I think the British rule has a huge part to play in downgrading the area

From my understanding, FYI reldrik bro
I think these are accurate based on the sources they used . But problem is with the timeline.
They took the best out of each dynasties/Empire and merged it to create a Utopian world.
Eg: (Traveller's Record)
Megasthenes was during Chandragupta Maurya (300BC)
Fa Hien - Gupta Empire (300AD)
Xuan Tzang - Harshavardhana time(600 AD)
Idk if its true.. if it's im happy.
But my assumption is that they clubbed all the best things of each empires together to create this utopia

Toilets and sewage are basic and common features in all ancient Indus Valley civilization cities. They were so greatly planned constructed and maintained that today's systems will appear inferior.
But this video is about Indian cities between 500 BCE and 500 CE. During this time the knowledge of toilets is not that prevalent if I am not wrong. They might be a luxury.
But sewage system is still existing.
Bathing -
Separate bathroom? This might be a luxury. But bath area is common in every house, either it is mostly open area or open top room.
This public toilet is appearing more like Roman toilets and Turkish toilets.
It is surprising because in most of ancient text there are descriptions of bathing on the banks of rivers and bathing areas built on the banks of rivers. But this kind of Hammams are not existent if I am not wrong
Interconnected water lines are also seems to be exaggeration
Luxury or not it's still fascinating. It would be like magic compared to other cultures in different parts of the world at the time
