Seems like every time you play with random clubs, you play pretty well (I'm thinking about the preowned battle you do with Rick). There's something about when you drop expectations and play freely.

    • @FitFast8
      @FitFast8 6 лет назад +2

You could tell on the 5th hole you put more expectation on that putt instead of just being yourself and enjoying the moment, as you had with the previous shots. I didn't really believe you when you said it would be a bonus-you wanted it too much. You were also projecting into the future by mentioning the short par 4 coming up next. The self talk was also aggressive and stressful for you and that was translated into a faster snatchy down stroke. Same with the missed par putt. Also, if you were truly confident in that moment why would you need to say 'cummon' to boost yourself. Compare that with what you said over the previous putt you holed and the mindset surrounding it and the stroke it produced. You're technically gifted but mentally have a block for scoring low (you're associating it with success and failure instead of just having fun and being yourself). This is the source of all your poor strokes-I would recommend a life coach or a cognitive hypnotist to explore the meanings you associate with it, where and when it came from and to release the block. Good luck with the Open qualification.

G’day Pete, your video inspired me and my playing partner to give this a crack this afternoon, we live in regional NSW, Australia so we thought we would be pretty hard out finding quality gear....well, we were wrong!
    My bag looked like this
    Driver - Taylormade R540XD
    3 wood - Dunlop DDH-500
Irons - Peter Senior signatures 4-PW
    54deg wedge - Cleveland tour action 900
60 deg Lob wedge - Titleist Vokey
    Putter - Odyssey XG Teron
Grand total $61AUD so about £35
Holy smokes is the Cleveland tour action 900 an amazing wedge!
I’m a 13 handicapper and shot 16 over for 18 - not great golfing but amazing fun, thanks for the brilliant content!

Excellent video Pete! Forget the clubs for a moment.... I think a lot can be learned from the choices you made. There were plenty of shots that you chose in an attempt to play within the limits of the clubs that turned out to be shots well within the limits of your game. I think also that the clubs altered your mental approach to your round. Your focus seemed to be to put the best swing on the ball that you could, accept the results and then do it again. It seemed to free you to play more naturally and less stressed.

A bag full of Callaway for 25 quid! Unreal. It's great having so many charity shops in the UK. I moved to Germany in 2004 and you have to look hard to find one here. There's an Oxfam about 30 miles from me but that's pretty much it. After living in the UK with 6 or 7 in pretty much every medium sized town it was something of a shock to find the concept just hasn't caught on over here.
Great video Peter, reminded me a bit of the old Top Gear cheap car challenge. And that's a BIG compliment : ))

What I think I saw was knowing the shafts were regular flex your swings were Very smooth. I have one fellow that stops by the shop I cannot mention his name but he is one of the WLD guys. With a regular flex Excalibur driver shaft in a Cobra LTD he still hits it 360 + and a stiff flex Excalibur shaft in a Vega 7 iron he hits it between 219 and 229. Very smooth transition is his secret.

Lovely vid. I love shiny new things as much as anyone, but I also love it when old stuff gets reused and still proves its worth. It also is the most relaxed I have seen you in a course vlog for a while (which I think contributed more to the result than the clubs did).

I am reciting your bag verbatim to my parents we've had a new and recycled golf/sports store since 1993. This video was epic. I'm feeling a little sillier with my 0311's. Loved the heaven wood in have and college around 98 through 03 and still. Super stoked about the video!!!

This makes me feel pretty good about the half a bag full of Bertha's I just bought on eBay for £50 in my bid to take up golf after a 22 year break. I reckon I've given myself the best chance of having some fun and avoiding being angry at how much money I've wasted if I haven't magically got much better by not playing for a couple of decades. I think there might even be a bit of a cachet to being a dirtbag golfer.

Thrift shops will SURPRISE you sometimes! Wife's throw out/donate their husbands clubs ALLLL the time, I found a Nike SUMO driver (Square one) a month after they released at a goodwill for $9, I was literally going to buy a new one of the SAME model the following payday back then, what an awesome coincidence... even though I don't believe in coincidences!

don't bink Damn, They deffo do our electronics but not clubs, I only go there a handful of times per year but they usually have some decent golf stuff! But yeah, other thrift stores don’t do that, check those out.

This helps solidify you can play good golf for cheap. My set it use know consist of a full set clubs that cost $10 dollars Canadian and a $2 dollar sand wedge (both found in thrift stores). Other clubs or ball retrievers are left over from old sets we had (over 20 years old).

Great idea and execution for a video topic, very refreshing. How about you compare that against the most expensive clubs money can buy?

Great video!! Ha! bought two sets of blades for £20 - Dunlop Blue Flash and Lynx U.S.A. (I think from the 70's) - no woods. The Dunlop turned out to be left-handed so I donated to a kids golf program but the Lynx, well I cleaned the shafts and regripped (as best I could) and now use them - superb balance and lie - prefer them to my Wilson Ultras. My first set of clubs were in the 70's - Spalding Lanny Wadkins and since I gave them away, I've never felt comfortable with clubs and now I use the Wilson Staff woods and the Lynx irons and I'm a pig is Sh*t . Yep, you can find super bargains out there.

This video was absolutely splendid. Reminds me of the secondhand club challenge with rick. The fact that the sale of the clubs to benefit a charitable organization is just icing on the cake. Would love to see if something similar to this could be put together with rick, Matt fryer and others hosted by the company you do the secondhand club challenge with each year (sorry don’t know the company’s name; from the other side of the pond) but nonetheless, great video Pete. Easily one of my favorite golf professionals around.

Enjoyed the video. You are a fantastic golfer, so your final thoughts are right on regarding your skill level. I often believe lessons would do me much better than a new driver or changing up the set of irons .

I'm super jealous you got a set of Big Berthas! Those were the last set of irons my dad bought, and its the set I learned golf on. To this day, they were my favorite irons.
