For me, reindeer. It's quite expensive here in southern Finland but the taste is great. Also wild cranberries are very tasty. Good to hear that You liked it :)
As a Finn I would say reindeer. I love _poronkäristys_ (sauteed reindeer). If I had seen some smoked salmon, it would've been harder decision. I could eat smoked salmon every day. But all those foods you enjoyed at Nili Restaurant looked so yummy!
the dessert...wow that looked astounding... but ten I ate fresh mule deer tenderloin this evening with a juniper spruce red wine sauce.... we harvested mule deer yesterday.....liver and tongue tomorrow....mmmm.....living life well in the Montana Rockies....love you two sharing your world ...thanks
The reindeer head in the city layout is intentional. After the second world war the burnt Rovaniemi had to be rebuilt and it was designed by the finnish architect Alvar Aalto to resemble a reindeer head.
You are adorable and your travel vlog is awesome. 😊 That dessert you have enjoyed so much is so crazily simple and easy to prepare. Cheap too. Cranberries are everywhere and butterscotch sauce is whisked together in couple of minutes. 😎
I really love watching the food videos in your series. Everything always looks & sounds so amazing to taste. They're always my favorite part of your travels everywhere you go.
Hey Kevin! Seeing now that I missed replying to your comment here before! Sorry! We love our food videos too but editing can't be done on an empty stomach.... ;)
Stumbled across your channel while looking for vlogs from Palawan, where I’ll be traveling soon, and whaddayaknow! Now you’re in my old home town Rovaniemi 🙃
I love Finnish licorice when added to a sweet. Before you leave Finland you must buy a Karl Fazer chocolate bar with licorice . My absolute favourite!!
That was the best food face every, Marc!! I love that you described yourself as getting emotional about it!!! LOL!! Very cool that the town was laid out in the shape of a reindeer, too.
Seeing food excites me and I adore trying new foods in each new location I check out, it is great to see you guys are so open to trying to things too! All your dishes looked superb and you describe them so eloquently! Fantastic end to the day relaxing in the jacuzzi, I would love this place.
That dessert looked delicious! They way you described it, I'd really like to eat that. Great way to end such an evening in a hot tub. Little jealous here!
Wow! your room was in a hostel? It looks like a trendy hotel room! That museum looked like the logging museum in Portland. I've been to that one. It's kind of cool to see how some of that stuff works That food looks super yummy. It's in such a cute little restaurant too!
You haven't been in Lapland if you don't try traditional reindeer stew. I am a Finn and one of the best stews i have had in Rovaniemi at Arctic City Hotel restaurant (Monte Rosa is name if I remember right). I VERY STRONGLY suggest that you go to try that if you're still there.
A delicious meal that is also healthy a rare combination. The cranberries are particularly good for the kidneys. The smiling gave the place a real feel good factor.
Very wonderful that you guys enjoyed Rovaniemi. I've been there many times and about 6 years ago I took my American husband to meet my family in Tornio. We took day trip to Rovaniemi to see the Santa Claus. It was fantastic trip. I haven't been in that restaurant but I love reindeer very much and we got some dried reindeer meat which is fantastic. My only question is : Was that really cranberries ? since the Lingoberries is the berry that is pretty much always used in Finland and specially used with all reindeer dishes. Anyways enjoy Finland 👍💗🇫🇮
Marc's eyebrows on the eye mask 😉. I'm glad you weren't let down at the restaurant .. very different menu 🦌 You have to like black licorice for that dessert. I'm all about the jacuzzi! Cheers 🥂 Enjoy! 💕
It looks like you're enjoying my hometown there😄😄 City plan was made in 1945 by designer Alvar Aalto and it's made to look like reindeer👌😌 Nili has the best atmosphere if you're trying to find "lappish" feel in rovaniemi, and good food also😙
I don't think I have ever seen apartment balconies totally enclosed in glass like that before--makes sense though. Your room seems nice--are the beds really hard like all European mattresses seem to be? The reindeer dinner looks so tasty. That dessert is so different from anything I have ever seen before; would I like it if I do not like black licorice?
Your smiles and happiness is contagious ☺️ did you like the raindeer meat? When I was a child I was often made to eat it so as a adult it is not my favorite, and Im vegetarian these days :)
Oh yeah, gotta love the reindeer meat. Especially the stew, made by my grandma of course. :D They have loooots of reindeers, and I remember from my childhood, that we always had reindeer for dinner whenever I visited there. :) Some of them just hung around in their yard and some of them even chased me around the house. :D
@@EileenAldis Yeah there were always some young ones around. 🙂 I just got a kick out of it running away from them. They would just poke me with their tiny horns. 😄
Have you tasted wood grouse, black grouse and hazel grouse? I have tasted those and they was super delicious! Do you know why I tasted those birds? Because I live in Finland
That's wonderful! Have you visited Finland? We loved it and extended our stay. We made a lot of other videos there if you'd like to see more: bit.ly/finlandplaylist :)
Roveniami looking for santa? I'm really following close your vlog this time. I've planned on going to the santa village, taking the raindeer sledge and catching some Aurora. Oh, crossing the Arctic circle line! But to stay in the glass igloo i think a bit expensive. Isn't it?
That's great! Santa and crossing the line will make an appearance in a video very soon... ! There are a lot of places that offer the glass igloos so it may not be as expensive as you think (also depends on the time of year) :)
The people in there are basically waking up every morning just hoping they can be of some assistance to a tourist. Yes, we like to give a good impression.
I have a similar 2:22 balcony with moveble glass panels, it makes the Finnish balcony season longer. Wow the dinner looks really good! Reindeer is the only red meat I eat, it's the most ethic meat you can find, Rudolphs are running free most of the year. Sometimes reindeer become a pet, this handsome boy thinks he's a dog: ruclips.net/video/VNZaR0z-kOs/видео.html
AWWW that reindeer is so cute! Thanks for sharing that video! The glass panels are a great idea. As a Canadian, I can definitely relate to wanting to extend the season haha :)
@@EileenAldis Actually no. I live in southern Finland, but those glass covered balconies are quite common here too. I think that they install them in new buildings while they are built. Aftermarket installation costs something like 1000-3000€.
@@Keinapappa Wow, that's not cheap but it must be worth it! Whereabouts in southern Finland? We took the train from Rovaniemi down to Helsinki. I miss Finland and could really go for some salmon soup right now haha. We made lots of videos if you're interested by the way: bit.ly/finlandplaylist. :)
So I can assume you are big Finland fans.....check out their biggest export item: a band called Nightwish. They are HUGE all around the world and their music is is just something you would never expect to be so enormous ( check out Ghost Love Score). Specially with the the Dutch front singer Floor Jansen it has exploded into a frenzy. Thank you for this amazing video.

I knew Rovaniemi had been terribly burned and rebuilt but didn't realize Alvar Aalto was involved - wow! It's such a great idea for the city :)
I love how positive with good spirit and open minded you guys were. That's the best way to experience a new country and their food culture. 👍💙
What a lovely couple you two are! It's great fun to follow your travels in my home country. Love from Mikkeli, Finland!
You are such a fun and lovely couple! ❤️ And Lapland is so serene and beautiful.

Hey Janne! Thanks for the tip! That's great to know for future reference :) We definitely noticed how popular reindeer-based dishes are in Lapland.
I think he means sauteed reindeer, not stew? Reindeer stew is not that popular or traditional.
Love how you laugh! 😊
Aww thanks ❤️
What a sweet couple! I am happily subscribed :) Re your question - the vodka cranberry drink!!!
Just saw your comment now! Thanks so much! ❤️We miss Finnish food (and chocolate/candy!) ;)

Why there is Russian food in thumbnail and the video is about finnish food?
I think food is Finnish if it's made in Finland even though original recipe can be from other country.
Food culture is not following state borders. And many of so called russian foods are familiar through whole Nordic.
