Engenheiros do Hawaii is a band with more than 30 years of history and approximately 300 the vocalist Humberto Gessinger is also the composer and has influence of Bob Dylan, progressive rock among others. It has more than 200 own songs. It has very complex lyrics that bring deep reflections. Humberto plays several instruments and has exceptional solo work in addition to being a writer. Strong hug.
The name "Engineers from Hawaii" was to mock the engineering studants that used to wear surfing brand cloathes at the time they're studying architeture.
Fun fact: Each time he sings this song he changes the "Julio Iglesias" part. On the video you chose, he says "Bob Marley". When he peformed in my city he said the name of a known artist from here.
Doesn't matter if you're a romantic, a rocker, a junkie, a metal head, have Italian or Chinese blood... Every Brazilian know this song. We usually say when we're born we already know this song!! "it's embedded in our DNA", we say.
Piano bar is a HARD song to understand at first, and probably Double as hard for a translated version. Interestingly enough, in Humbertos biography he explains this song is actually about his passing father and how he would feel remembering him. Humberto lost him as a child. He would walk alone late at night and see his dad for years. So the lines "everytimes we miss something, the invisible jumps at us, and its like falling deep into a dark pool" he describes how he felt when he kept seeing his father. At the same time, it was momentarily good to remember him: "The fire illuminates everything, for a very short time. And in a very short time the fire eraises everything, but eventually everything is light again. But everytime theres no light, the invisible jumps at us again!!". It plays with the word "light" as the light from the fire of seeing his dad's ghost - a light that illuminates but also burns - and the light of the day that make these memories go away, but eventually fades bringing back the night and the fire. He also states how he would see the loneliness in the "girl", but eventually realizes it was his own loneliness. Its actually a very heavy and sad song, one of their best masterpieces. Thanks for taking your time and doing this!

Live with him is always better than studio sound 😍❤️. Sorry, my english no good, i am used the robot Google Translation
The father of some one of the band was a very worker man. He always came late in the night, and his son always noticied this by the sound of his shoes. When he died, his son always waited for the hour he used to come back home and walk by the house with his shoes. Thats where came the "Quando nos falta luz, o invisível nos salta aos olhos".
It was 1986 when i won my first album of Engenheiros do Hawaii, I was 10 years old and i love do play Enduro from Atari listing 'Toda forma de poder' the first song of side A of the album 'Longe demais das Capitais'
Engenheiros do Hawai are from the same period of the great Brazilian Rock Bands, of the eighties.. Their lyrics are very well done. PS.: You look handsome in blue.
Engenheiros do Hawaii, as the other Rock bands born in the Brazilian South, like Nenhum de Nós and Acústicos e Valvulados, who came in the 80's and 90's, has a job much more inspirated in the pohetic from his lyrics, always bring to the public a fantastic message, hidden or not. But obvosly that the talent extends to the musical capacity. I really apreciates if you make another videos reacting to this band!
Piano Bar (Engenheiros do Hawaii) What you are requesting me I can't do Because if I do so, you lose me and I lose you Like a boat loses its course Like a tree loses its leaves in the fall What you can't do I won't ask you to About what you don't want I don't want to insist Say the truth, no matter who it hurts, Donate blood and let me know your phone number Every day I come to the same place Sometimes it's far, hard to find But when the neon light shines bright Every night is moonlight night In the (radio of) taxi that brought me here Julio Iglesias (he says Bob Marley in this concert) agreed with me News about sports, what's the time, crime, religion... Indeed, "nothing" is a word waiting for translation Every time the power goes off Every time we lack something the invisible pops up to our eyes It's a jump in the dark of the pool Fire enlights so much, for such a tiny little time and in such a tiny little time the fire extinguishes everything everything someday turns into light Every time the power goes off the invisible pops up to our eyes Yesterday night I met a girl It was already late, it was almost early day It was the beginning of a precipice It was my body falling down Yesterday night the night was cold Everything was burning, nothing heated She appeared, she seemd so lonely That loneliness, it seemd that it was my own Yesterday night I met a girl that I already knew from (way back) other carnivals dressed in different carnival costumes She appeared, she seemd so lonely That loneliness, it seemd that it was my own
Nice reaction! Sadly the most interesting thing about this band it is the lyrics which gets murdered in translation for they use quite a bit of language expression and they play with the words. For example the expression: “ “doa a quem doer” roughly translating would be “paining whoever it would pain”, the meaning of it is to do something regardless of the consequences, in the music it say “diga a verdade”(tell the truth) “doa a quem doer” (no matter how hurtful), then it plays with the fact that some inflections of the “to pain”(dor) verb is written the same as “t o give”(dar) and kinda nonsensically finishes the phrase with “give blood”. Knowing somebody from other carnivals is also another expression usually meaning that you know well the person and theirs true intentions, if you say something to someone and they reply they know you from other carnivals, they mean: you are not fooling me. He proceeds playing with this expression telling she used different masks, which gives a sense here that the girl is a sly person.
To "know something from other carnivals" is a brazilian expression that means you know something or someone for a long time now. On this song Humberto plays with this expression in order to mean that he knew this girl since she was a lot different from how she was last night, when he met her again. Humberto has this thing with his lyrics, in which he overuses a lot of "slangs", giving it a lot more meanings, which, particularly, makes me love almost all Humberto songs. When he says "when the neon is good", he's talking about night life, the neon lights on bars, nightclubs, etc, and by the way, he mentions that Julio Iglesias gave him reason on the cab that took him there but it doesn't mean he knows him. He's actually talking about being solo. This gets easy to understand if you listen to the studio version of this song, from the "várias variáveis" album. As i comented on your "infinita highway" reaction, it worths a lot to listen carefully and study this one and other albums from Engenheiros do Hawaii.

Engenheiros do Hawaii is a great band from Rio Grande do Sul. I recommend you to listening “Cachorro Grande - Dia perfeito”, another band from Rio Grande do Sul. The lyrics Piano Bar is some introspective. The part that his talking about “listening Julio Iglesias” or “Bob Marley” meaning the music is playing in the car and he seeing reason in the lyrics. Another part, when the lyrics showing that he know the loneliness from another carnivals is a commom phrase in Brazil that means you recognize from another times. By the way, this lyrics talking about a end of relationship and a meet whiff loneliness again. This is my favorite song by engenheiros do Hawaii.
The singer is the band lead (or owner, if you prefer). He plays many instruments, but in the band he’s bassist. “Infinita Highway” has beautiful bass lines that probably you”ll like.
There’s too many awesome songs from Engenheiros, included a version of a Bob Dylan song. If you notice, a great merit or virtue of Brazilian music is due to the quality of the lyrics and the poetic and creative capacity of the authors. But in their case, there’s also an interesting style of mixing in studio recordings. In live performances he usually sings something different, changing time, words, arrangements.

I'm addicted to this channel!!!!!!!
Thank you Frank!!!
best Brazilian rock band.
Frank, i'm so happy that you discovered this band, I love them so much
I love Engenheiros, especially the album Simples de Coração.
This singer is a genius.
Congratulations! You have chosen the most complicated songwritter to understand. Lyrics and melody. He's so incredible that he never does a show without changing the lyrics in improvisation in the middle of the song, it changes everything and it's like we're always in a new experience. Live with him is always better than studio sound 😍❤️. Sorry, my english no good, i am used the robot Google Translation
Gerar Song, great job Frank!
I Love Engenheiros!
Yeah man, great video, remember the great song never dies! Engenheiros forever dude!
Please Please!! React Renato Russo - Strani Amori
Diria QUALQUER UMA DE RENATO RUSSO/LEGIÃO
Engenheiros do Hawaii, as the other Rock bands born in the Brazilian South, like Nenhum de Nós and Acústicos e Valvulados, who came in the 80's and 90's, has a job much more inspirated in the pohetic from his lyrics, always bring to the public a fantastic message, hidden or not. But obvosly that the talent extends to the musical capacity. I really apreciates if you make another videos reacting to this band!
Frank! Pleas react to "Eu que não amo você" and "ando só" both by Humberto Gessinger, lead singer of Engenheiros do Hawaii.
Piano Bar (Engenheiros do Hawaii)
What you are requesting me I can't do
Because if I do so, you lose me and I lose you
Like a boat loses its course
Like a tree loses its leaves in the fall
What you can't do I won't ask you to
About what you don't want I don't want to insist
Say the truth, no matter who it hurts,
Donate blood and let me know your phone number
Every day I come to the same place
Sometimes it's far, hard to find
But when the neon light shines bright
Every night is moonlight night
In the (radio of) taxi that brought me here
Julio Iglesias (he says Bob Marley in this concert) agreed with me
News about sports, what's the time, crime, religion...
Indeed, "nothing" is a word waiting for translation
Every time the power goes off
Every time we lack something
the invisible pops up to our eyes
It's a jump in the dark of the pool
Fire enlights so much, for such a tiny little time
and in such a tiny little time the fire extinguishes everything
everything someday turns into light
Every time the power goes off the invisible pops up to our eyes
Yesterday night I met a girl
It was already late, it was almost early day
It was the beginning of a precipice
It was my body falling down
Yesterday night the night was cold
Everything was burning, nothing heated
She appeared, she seemd so lonely
That loneliness, it seemd that it was my own
Yesterday night I met a girl
that I already knew from (way back) other carnivals
dressed in different carnival costumes
She appeared, she seemd so lonely
That loneliness, it seemd that it was my own
Amo os engenheiros do Hawaii
The best brazillian rock band , so far
Yeah, this song is awesome , listen 14 Bis " Planeta Sonho" next time.

Linda juventude
Please ❤ this is awesome
Thanks, thanks, thanks😘
O verso " No táxi que me trouxe até aqui o Bob Marley ( Bod Dylan / Julio Iglesias' ) me dava razão "
I Love Engenheiros do hawaii
Frank The Italian community in Brazil is the largest out of Italy
Love this!
Engenheiros do Hawaii are the best rock band ever in brazil. Humberto gessinger is a genius

Congratulations.
