We always joke that when my husband travels for business, something breaks at home. Well, he left last weekend and on day one, my dishwasher stops! Ahh! When we figured out the 8-4 groove, we googled and voila. This video saved me the hassle of calling an appliance repair man. My 15 year-old got out the drill and watched this, identified the same problem, and within 20 minutes the problem was fixed. THANK YOU!

I used the wrong dishwasher soap after that I have the same code it was 8 - 4 . I clean the dripping tray at the bottom and problem resolved . thx

OMG - you saved my sanity. I'd looked up the "8 beep 4 beep" section in the manual -- I checked the filter (inside the dishwaster) and it said to "check the float" - but I *could not find* the float. I was going to remove the whole dishwasher looking for it -- and voila! You saved me all that headache. Thank you!

Thanks! this was the perfect solution to my problem. I accidentally used an Affresh Disposal cleaning tablet rather than a dishwasher cleaning tablet and there were lots of suds! Even after removing the suds and adding vegetable oil it was still giving the 8/4 code. This was so helpful and easy to do. I really appreciate it

You have saved me an extra headache. Your video addressed exactly what was wrong with my dishwasher... which turned out to be an easy fix... thanks to your tutorial. The drain well was full due to a leak I had yesterday.... so again, I say thanks... for doing a bit of extra work / research for us and putting it on video...👌🤛.

You just earned your 50th subscriber. I spent 3 hours this morning trying to fix this. Ended up calling KitchenAid, who said they can send out a local tech to take a look at it in EIGHT DAYS. I would rather not go 8 days without a dishwasher. I decided I would give myself one last try for 15 more minutes to try and fix it myself. Who knew a channel called "Liberty Lovin" with 49 subscribers and a potato for a camera would be the one to instantly relieve my stress and guide me to successfully fixing the issue. God bless you, and God bless the United States of America.

I'm from California so I don't know what "canning" is but thank God you were doing it. My wife was washing the dog in the sink and drained it while the dishwasher was running. It caused the same issue you had. Best Buy was trying to tell me I needed a new motherboard and that it would take up to ten days to get a tech out here. Thanks to you, I have my dishwasher running TODAY. I'll be buying you a drink with the other commenter here. Thanks sir!!!

Dude! This was EPIC! Thank you so much! I bought this dishwasher EXACTLY a year ago to the day on Thanksgiving. Our dishwasher was doing the exact same thing. Funny, I poured potato water down the drain when making them for mashed potatoes. I sat down to watch the football game and the beep started going off. I don’t mind fixing my own stuff but error codes aren’t my thing. You nailed it! Again, thank you so much. Back to the game!

Thank you! Like the person below I was concerned when this occurred barely a year after purchase and the warranty expired. My wife put the wrong soap in the dishwasher causing it to foam up, which apparently triggered this. At the time I was not aware of that and just thought it had broken randomly. I was so relieved when your video came up after searching and described such an easy fix, which worked for me perfectly.

I had the same issue. Washing dishes in the sink while the dishwasher was running so there must have been some back wash into the dishwasher causing a water leak which caused the "drip float" to trigger an error code. WTF - a drip float ! Why would a dishwasher ever leak when the sink is being used!! I will say it again WTF !
Thank you sir ! For exposing this massive flaw in dishwasher design. Kitchen Aid is usually a good brand. What happened to them? I did like you said dried off the drip float, put it back into position and pressed cancel and error code gone! Thank you !

Thank you so much for posting this! I had the dishwasher going when I dumped out a 2 qt sauce pan that I had soaking in the sink. Sure enough, ended up with a beeping dishwasher flashing F8 E4. I wouldn't have made the connection without your canning water mention. Now I know not to ever do that again!

Thank you! Same dishwasher model/booklet. I left a 5lb bag of ice sitting on my countertop overtop of the dishwasher for less than half hr. Naturally, it began to melt and drip out and over the counter edge and onto the push button surface. This water must have found its way to the drip tray. Same story...F8E4 error code. Had to do the same thing you did. Thanks for the visual!

If simply pouring water into your sink while your dishwasher is running causes a backwash into the machine, your dishwasher drain hose isn't properly installed. Some sinks have an air gap (anti-siphon device) - you don't see these too often today, or if the hose goes directly to your sink tailpipe or disposal stub, it will need to have a 'loop' before it does so to eliminate this possibility.

Thanks dude. I had the code 8/4 and beeping. Water in the drip tray was my problem. I had just refilled my in sink soap dispenser and I guess a bunch of soap was in a bowl that got put into the dishwasher. I only know that because I opened it (after it stopped) and there were soap suds all over the inside of the dishwasher. My guess is the soap started sudsing up inside the washer and overflowed down to the overflow tray. Just added this as another possible reason causing the error. Also, I noticed the tray, that the float sits in, can slide out as well. I just slid it out and emptied it in the sink. Thanks man!

I’m reading comments here….people thinking they fixed the problem by emptying the tray. If the tray is fulllf water there is a problem. Mine was a dripping fill hose connection. Had there not been a drip tray and switch. My subfloor would have rotted over time.
KitchenAid engineers saved me. The installers didn’t tighten the connection good enough.

Oh, and I saved myself a service call or doing it myself (not really an option) by procrastinating long enough that enough water evaporated (wintertime and house is low humidity due to heating) and lowered the float mechanism to where the machine allowed itself to function again.

Any idea what could be the issue if that entire drip tray and float is completely dry??
I’m getting this error, and every video says the same thing and the issue is actually the water in the tray they found. However mine is completely dry. Any ideas?
I disconnected and reconnected the sensor connection for the float and cut the power to the dishwasher and reconnected power to just let it restart. Going to run a quick cycle to see if that maybe fixed it. 🤷‍♂️ 😂
