  • This video is an overview on how to use the GM Tech2 scan tool to perform GM SPS Programming of calibration file updates for the ECU or any programmable module firmware on the vehicle such as the EBCM, TCM, PCM, VCM, or Radio that you may want to reflash. Of the different reflash programming approaches, this first video covers Remote Mode between the Tech2 and the Techline terminal PC running TIS 2000. And as an example we will flash a new calibration onto the vehicles PCM (powertrain control module). This procedure applies equally to the genuine Tech2 manufactured by Vetronix, HP, or Bosch as it does to any clone or knock-off model from China. This is the first video in a series playlist I have put together illustrating the various modes for SPS programming available with the GM Tech2.
    GM SPS Programming Series playlist: • GM SPS ECU Programming...
    WARNING: Pay very close attention to the instructions around power cabling and battery readiness as a power fluctuation during an SPS programming procedure can permanently damage a controller module. GM recommends use of their EL-49642 SPS Programming Support Tool attached to the battery to avoid this. You can also jumper cable another battery to mitigate this risk. But do NOT attempt to use a battery charger for this purpose though. I review an alternative tool here - • 1995+ GM SPS2 Programm...
    TIS2000 was deprecated by GM in early 2008, but was once the primary Techline Information System approach delivered to dealers via DVD media on a quarterly basis. Today we would use the subscription based TIS2Web as part of the ACDelco TDS server based offering to accomplish many of the same tasks, although Tech2 Remote Mode is no longer supported or offered by TDS for newer vehicles.
    NOTE: be sure your USB to serial adapter device driver is configured for 115200 speed on Windows using Device Manager and that you set the COM port it is assigned to within TIS2000 for communication to be successful between the PC and the Tech2. GM recommends the Tripp Lite Keyspan USA-19HS adapter (USB to DB9 serial).
    Applicable to OBDII model years 1996 thru early 2008 only, and for all makes under General Motors such as Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Hummer, Saturn, Opel, Vauxhall, and Saab.

    THANKS for this video. Really helpful. I wish I could triple Like this video.
    I have an unusual issue. A 1997 Chevy S10 pickup with a 1995 engine. This engine does not have Cam Shaft Position Sensor and so the truck is stuck with a Check Engine light.
    My assumption is that if I reprogram the ECU to be 1995 but keep the VIN then the Check Engine goes away and the truck can be successfully smogged in California.
    DrShock does this sound possible to you?

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  5 лет назад +3

      No, it doesn't but then I don't usually deviate from factory configs. Changing the VIN isn't going to change the behavior of the PCM (what you refer to as an ECU) but it may allow you to put a 1995 calibration onto that 1997 ECM, I just don't know. Depends on how compatible those two years were, how smart the GM SPS software is, etc. The problem here is you have a 1997 PCM connected to a 1995 engine. If it were me, I'd just put in a 1995 PCM to match and use the Tech2 to assign my VIN to that '95 PCM, presuming the rest of my 1997 options were compatible with that 1995 unit.

    Dr. Shock, Once again you take the time to give us detailed, useful information. I'm an engineer, student and professional tinkerer, but you bring this to a level of advanced professional. Clearly you enjoy what you do and know a lot about electronics, GM cars and the scan tools; I'm sure that list goes on. Please keep the videos coming. It took me weeks to get my GM eSI software working; now have a clear procedure. Thinking about a Tech2 Tool; however, the MDI arrives today. Funds limited as a student. I'll comment (ask questions) to your "Unboxing Review & Setup". Thanks again for sharing.

    Thank you very much. In deed it helps a lot. A complex problem that occured on my BiFuel Opel Combo CNG 2009 by wanting to activate the Cruise Control turned the Switch for Natural Gas / Gazonline useless. Car runs only on gazoline and not on CNG any more. Pressure Sensor for CNG reports 0 bar pressure (even though the tanks are full and at 200 bar). I know sounds unbelievable but it is ture and a fact. The OP COM Software had and has a bug on z16YNG Motors that was addressed (but only in Astra and Zafira CNG Modells) and not on Combo (since the Combo is listed as a Corsa in GM Systems) and now we are fighting to resolve that. :-(( I try to install GlobalTIS and OPCOM and liked your info on TIS2000 so I can talk with the dealer on eye level and have a better understanding.
    So today in 2022 the deaeler is able to REFLASH the Firmware in my Car for the EngineControllUnit and the BodyControllUnit much faster and without the need to download on a PC - transfer it to Tech2 and loading it on the car, right? He can flash it directly with his DiagnosticsTool over WiFi on the car.

      Glad it helped. And yes the Tech2 remote mode was abandoned by GM many many years ago. So a dealer will not even have that option available to them. Both TIS2000 and TIS2Web are obsolete and discontinued. The dealers now use Techline Connect, which only supports the passthru mode I showed in a different video. And rather than using a Tech2, the dealer would be told to use the newer MDI running a Tech2Win emulator instead.

    Thank you for the video. I have a Tech 2 and a Windows 98 Laptop and my target vehicle is a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500 HD SLE with a gasoline engine. Your video appears to cover updating the ECU, but my objective is to add steering wheel controls to show tire pressures from TPMS that I enabled with the Tech 2. My truck did not have the TPMS option, but my 2005 Yukon Denali does have it, along with the steering wheel control option to show individual tire pressures. I added a passenger side window module enabling TPMS and tire pressure sensors. I now have TPMS in the truck with a low pressure indicator in the instrument cluster. Using the Tech 2 I was able to enable the TPMS and set tire pressures, as well as read tire pressures. But my truck steering wheel controls do not have the option of see individual pressures like my Yukon Denali. I swapped instrument clusters and the Denali will still read tire pressures but the truck will not. So the issue is not in the cluster. I returned the clusters to the original vehicles, and I was told that I need to "reflash" my BCM to enable the steering wheel option.
    I think, but I'm not sure, that TPMS was an option in 2006 for SLT and Denali trucks, but I can't find verification of that. My goal is to activate the steering wheel TPMS function if possible. Can I do that with the Tech 2 and TIS 2000? Your video explains how to update the software, but is there a way to get into the software to enable this function?

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  3 года назад

      TPMS is not an optional feature in the USA, so it would be enabled in the Body Control Module (BCM) by default for those vehicles that came with it off the assembly line. I've seen some sites mention that _some_ vehicles had it as early as October 2005 but it wasn't until 2007 that all had it. Bottom line, your BCM would have to support this option. Use the Tech2 to go into the Body section, Body Control Module and setup as if you were going to build the car. I have not viewed the menus for a Sierra, but on passenger cars in 2005 you would see in the Tech2 screen of that BCM setup menu all the vehicle options with an "*" next to the ones that were enabled. It's not SPS (ie, not re-flash). Simply changing the options, just like enabling/disabling cruise control.

    • @raykawal

      @@DrShock I again connected the Tech 2 and under Diagnostics, only under Chassis could I find Tire Pressure Monitoring in Special Functions. There I could Enable TPM and set all of my tire pressures and read all tire pressures. It even asks the Load Range. All of that appears normal, and, as I previously mentioned, the IPC light comes on for TPMS OK. But there is no option for reading the tires pressures on the IPC with the steering wheel controls - only a light on the IPC. Under Body on the Tech 2, there is a BCM section, but no setup section in BCM. No mention anywhere for Tire Pressure Monitoring.
      My 2005 (a year older) Yukon Denali has the TPMS as well, but it has the steering wheel controls option to display the individual pressures on the IPC.
      You mentioned my BCM would have to support this option. Since Tire Pressure Monitoring is controllable and enabled under Chassis, it seems logical that the BCM supports TPMS. But I don't know about steering wheel controls. About a week ago I read on a Chevy Truck Forum that one owner of a 2006 Sierra got his tire pressures to read on his IPC, but I think he had an uplevel SLT rather than my SLE.

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  3 года назад

      So yeah if it's showing up under special functions, and you are able to get readings then the BCM is communicating with the TPMS sensors. Though very odd you are missing the setup menu option - will be quite the deal breaker if you ever have to replace the BCM ;-)
      There are different BCMs on some models during these years, the most obvious difference I've seen is to support remote keyless entry (one BCM part number has the radio the other doesn't). Just a guess but perhaps that's what's going on here as well. Personally, I don't usually try mods that were not available off the line in the year the vehicle was made, so don't have much more to suggest for what you're attempting.

      @@DrShock With my Tech 2, under Body Control Module, there are four options: Data Display, Special Functions, Snapshot, and ID Information. Under Data Display, there are four options: Data, Inputs, Outputs, and Security Data. TPMS is not mentioned anywhere in these options. The factory Service Manual for Sierra and Sierra Denali has a large section on Tire Pressure Monitoring and indicates it should show up on the DIC. The BCM schematics show a link to the IPC that includes both the TPMS light (which works) and the DIC (which doesn't work) in a dotted box titled "Logic". I'm guessing this logic that includes the DIC is not present in my BCM, perhaps because I have an SLE instead of the SLT or Denali. If that's the case, can the logic (including features) be changed with the TIS-2000? There doesn't seem to be a way with the just the Tech 2.
      I also reconnected my Tech 2 to my 2005 Yukon Denali, and went through the same steps as I did in the Sierra. Under Body, the BCM is similarly shown, with no Setup option present. Also, the TPMS is under Chassis, and the enabling of the TPMS details is done the same way in the Tech 2 in Special Features. But the DIC in the Yukon has the Tire Pressures option using the Odometer button on the steering wheel controls. This option is missing on the Sierra.
      If the BCM features can be enabled with the TIS-2000 software, I don't mind at all buying a subscription and trying it out. I will need to also buy a serial port to USB adapter to connect my Tech 2 to my Windows laptop - I have an extra older Thinkpad laptop that still has Windows XP on it. I'm not familiar with TIS-2000 at all, so I don't know what it can do besides what you explained in this video - basically reflashing a newer version of software. In my case, I'm guessing just a newer version of software for my SLE VIN number likely would not include adding the TPMS DIC feature. I would likely need to add that feature.

      You wouldn't need to subscribe to the current TIS2Web, as there have not been any SPS updates for 2005 since TIS2000 was deprecated in 2008. So you have all you need with the TIS2000 DVD that came with your Tech2 (if you have a Chinese knock-off version that is). All TIS2000 gives you is SPS (Service Programming System) so that if you need to update the calibration of a module (i.e., reflash) to get a newer version. There's no options or configuration there unless it was introduced as part of a new calibration. So I'd certainly suggest checking if there are any SPS updates, you can do that here tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web/ just by entering the VIN. You can compare the calibration ID for the PCM, for example, with what the Tech2 displays for it. If they are different, you might want to consider reviewing what was changed to decide if you want to upgrade your module. I doubt there are any BCM updates, in my experience most of the GM BCMs from this era were not updatable calibration wise but I suppose its possible so worth a check. You might also want to look up the BCM part numbers for your Sierra and see if there were other BCM parts specified for higher trim levels. There are several online GM parts places that would show this such as www.gmpartsgiant.com.

    @DrShock, when you said to make sure there is proper voltage to Tech2 (when programming), did you have the Tech 2 wall adapter plugged from the WALL and into the DLC ? Can't the cigarette lighter adapter setup the same way work just as well? Thanks in advance.

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  5 лет назад +1

      The AC wall adapter yes, the cigarette lighter adapter will still be subject to battery voltage drops during programming so no improvement over power thru the diagnostic connector on the vehicle itself. Technically you should also have the GM EL- 49642 SPS Programming Support Tool connected to the battery during this. It's a clean DC voltage maintainer, on the expensive side but a must if doing an SPS action that involves multiple modules in one go.

    Nice video instruction. Question- I have a tech 2 and just purchased a GM card. I need to calibrate a steering angle sensor on a 2008 Saab 9-7x (AKA Chevy Trailblazer). Does this require TIS 2000, or Global Tis? And, I presume that I need admin access for all of this. I have software already (Tis200 and Global Tis) for my 07 and 2010 Saab 9-3 vehicles, using the Saab card, with admin access. The 9-7x is new to me, and I know it is a Chevy Trailblazer with a Saab front end, essentially. I do have a CANDi module. Thoughts on this? Thanks!

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  Год назад

      Thanks. 2008 was the last year for TIS2000, most of the clone copies are incomplete for this year insofar as SPS goes, and really only usable for 2007 and back. If your VIN is in your copy of TIS2000 it's the cheapest route for a module reprogram.
      GlobalTIS and TIS2Web have been deprecated by GM since the end of 2021 though. The new tooling is Techline Connect with SPS2 and it does not support the Tech2 anymore for programming. You would have to have an MDI, or an aftermarket J2534 compatible tool, to use SPS2 now.
      The Saab vehicles have always been on the _odd_ side of Tech2 and TIS with frequent _issues_ from what I've read/heard. I do not have any hands on experience with this Euro model so your best bet is to hit the Saab forums.

I successfully updated the radio and PCM software, but now when I go into SPS to do the next module, the tech2 seems to have a power surge and reboot. it happens right during the Download Mode phase, it stays in download mode just long enough for my computer to read the vin, but then shortly reboots and is no longer in download mode, so my computer can't actually send the update files to it. It worked last week, any ideas on what could have went wrong?

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  Год назад +1

      You're commenting on the remote mode video, where the Tech2 is connected to the PC for the download not the vehicle. A reboot like that sounds like one due to a voltage drop situation. If you are using remote mode, and seeing this sort of problem I would first suspect a problem with the AC power adapter. If it's not the adapter itself, it could be the barrel connector for it. To test the latter you can connect power to the DLC jack end of the cables AC power port instead of the base of the Tech2 itself.
      If it's neither of those, then it can be a DC-DC converter failing on the circuit board if it's a clone unit. This is a much more rare issue, but I did a repair on one a few years ago here - ruclips.net/video/VAmGybyWfJ4/видео.html

      GMs legal department is pretty active in doing take downs, so finding that will be quite the easter egg hunt. You can find TIS2000 on eBay as used DVDs from time to time. And of course the Chinese cloners still stick a version in when you buy a clone Tech2 from them.
      Probably faster just to use SPS2/Techline Connect from www.acdelcotds.com.

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  5 лет назад

      Normally I'd say Google is how to find this out, but a quick check shows the search pattern to find info on this is not obvious because E37 is also a module code. Looks like this error is usually triggered two ways. If you're using TIS2000, it could either be not enough RAM on the PC or an unsupported version of Windows. When I run vintage software like TIS2000, I run it on an old Win2K or XP machine to avoid this sort of thing. The other source of error E37 seems to be from running a hacked version of the more modern TIS, and the solution here is you simply have to pony up and pay for the unhacked version of GlobalTIS for some modules. Try this Google search string with the quotes around E37: tech2 "E37" error

Or to adjust torque management or any other performance options to gain more benefits from the 2002-2005 Trailblazer/Envoy I-6 GM 4200 engines? Been looking at HPTuners to performance tune the PCM yet they cannot change tire sizes to re-calibrate the speedometer for larger tires. Have heard that the Tech2 with TIS2000 may be able to do all these things.

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  4 года назад +1

      Not generally, this is a GM dealer diagnostic and service tool only. It can't do performance tuning. I haven't done it myself, and not all vehicles have the Tech2 menu option anyway, but some vehicles do have a menu where you can change the tire configuration for the EBCM (ABS unit) with the Tech2. The only calibration files available match the OEM tires GM originally sold new with the vehicle though. The Tech2, as far as I know, will not let you alter the speedometer situation (though the dealer might be able to get a custom calibration file for a fee as long it was an OEM tire size option when new). Short of that you would probably have to have both a Tech2 and something aftermarket like EFIlive to do both.

      As long as the tire size was originally available from GM on that VIN, the process is pretty straight forward and does not require Techline Connect (when using a physical Tech2 handheld). Be sure you have correctly built the vehicle in the Tech2 before accessing the special functions menu; including product line code, engine type, and other specifics as those values are all important to successfully completing the function. So if SPS can read the module calibration, they block you from trying to re-install/re-flash the same module with the same calibration again. Now I have _heard_ GM goes a bit further and prevents updating a calibration on a module, even if it needs to be updated, if you already did that same module on that same VIN previously. I have not experienced this myself, not having had a need to deal with such a situation. But I can imagine it is GM preventing small shops from trying to buy one SPS VIN subscription and then trying to run thru many modules for multiple VINs _for free_ or such. • @DrShock
      @DrShock  Год назад +1

      First be careful on the memory cards. The Tech2 does *not* use PCMCIA, it uses a different kind of linear memory chip inside the card that just happens to use the same type of connector that a PC would. Cheapo Chinese cards might not last very long if they are the wrong memory chip type.
      A Tech2 will only allow you to setup a brand new BCM, so just keep that in mind. If you're trying to use an used module, you could be out of luck with a Tech2 since GM didn't want to allow that path so its very hit or miss. But setting up a brand new GM BCM, or an ACDelco remanufactured unit, would be just fine. You would just install the BCM and follow the service manual directions for programming. This varies across models and model years, so having the service manual, or service information online at www.acdelcotds.com, is best.

      Now there are _differences_ to be had, the circuit boards are built _much_ more cheaply, so if you drop a clone Tech2 on the shop floor it's likely toast vs the real Tech2s that are very durable for shop use. And while you can send a real one in to get repaired for $$$, you have zero repair options with a clone. The membrane keyboards on the clones crack and split after a few years of shop level use, whereas the real ones last decades. That sort of thing, build quality. That's what you give up with a clone, but not any functionality or software compatibility.

      For anything newer model year wise or Windows version wise, you have to use an MDI or MDI2 tool with GMs Techline Connect. That's where you pay to subscribe to SPS2. Runs about $45 per VIN for two years access.

      Yeah the older trucks I would always recommend using a Tech2 on, with TIS2Web. But now that Techline Connect came out, they dropped support for the Tech2. I'm talking about the actual Tech2 here, the physical tool.
      They still offer Tech2Win, the Windows emulator of a Tech2, which is useful for older vehicles that do not have GDS2 support. But for programming, you'll have to give it a go with the MDI or some more modern J2534 tool. If you find a problem, ACDelco TDS support _was_ giving special one day access last year to the old SPS to use a Tech2. Not sure if they are still doing that here in 2023 though, you would have to call and show them it's not working with SPS2.

    • @DrShock
      @DrShock  2 года назад +1

      So the E665 is a communications protocol problem if the comms test is now successful. It's either the Tech2's serial port being defective (the lower quality clone may encounter a chip failure here), or the USB to serial adapter if you're not using an old PC with a native RS232 serial port (GM actually only ever certified a single USB adapter as compatible which I list in the description). To make sure the Tech2 serial port is ok, you can use the loopback test adapter that came with the Tech2 and use the diagnostics menu to test it out. Unlikely problem but easy to verify. If you are using a USB to serial adapter make sure the Windows driver for it is configured to match the settings in the Tech2 and it is either the one I list in the description that GM supports, or one of these known to work tech2wiki.com/content/tech2/tech2_using/connecting_to_techline/usb-to-serial/usb2serial_working.html as you can't just use any usb serial adapter. Two most common reasons for that error code from TIS. Either you are not using a compatible USB to RS232 serial adapter (the Tech2 is very picky about this as it was designed before USB was a thing). I link GMs only recommended adapter in the description, from Keystone. But you can google around and some folks have found a few other brands that will work. Or, it's because you are missing the security dongle. TIS2000 is copy protected software, so it looks for a security device plugged into the PC. Either a parallel port type or a USB port type. There's a link in the description for those as well. I'm not sure why the Chinese cloners do not include these, I guess by not doing so they skirt a loophole imports wise. If you are comfortable with it, there are software hacks you can google which mod the TIS program to disable this code, but you have to be familiar with Windows a bit to do those.

    • @DrShock

      You have to have both the security dongle and the serial connection both active or TIS2000 will not communicate with the Tech2 correct. The crack makes TIS2000 think that the security dongle is already installed. I would double check that the crack was correctly installed before suspecting the USB to serial adapter. I only use clone Tech2s, there's no reason to pay for the originals as these clones are 100% identical in *all* functionality. You might see folks post from time to time on forums with false dangers or fake news otherwise, but I've been using them for the last five years or so and never have ran into any incompatibilities over dozens and dozens of repairs including with TIS2Web (the online subscription service from ACDelco). The biggest difference is in quality of materials and build, so the clones really wouldn't hold up in daily pro shop use (one or two hard floor drops and they are likely done). But if you baby them environmentally (no rain, no drops, away from corrosive fumes, etc), they are a fantastic value for DIYer or small shops with low and pre-2008 GM volume.
      The two model years you mention are fine, the software that should come with a clone Tech2, TIS2000, was discontinued by GM in 2008 so only covers programming thru model year 2007. You can use it for diagnostics only (no programming) with a small handful of models thru 2013, with the CANdi adapter module that should be included with the clone, but only if those models came out around 2005/2006 and just happened to carry over the same electronics thru 2013. Most vehicles after 2007 need an MDI tool instead.

GM continued providing this update feature via TIS2Web though, until version 33.004 of the NAO image which was the last one in 2013 as the MDI tool had taken over. Those Tech2 paths you're referencing are not vehicle specific, and the Tech2 does not expose all possible paths for all vehicles. Some of the tools functionality depended on capabilities of the BCM and/or PCM as well the individual modules themselves, and so for some vehicles you just don't have the tests available. Neither hadany special function ign. coil or ign. module test or bi-directionalcommands? But fuel injector tests, fuel trim, fuel trim learm plus 4or 5other fuel tests and bi directionl commands are present. One of the objectsof the Tech 2 is to diagnose the vehicle with out popping the hood.I am 67 yrs. old and been working on cars for 50 yrs. In that time the first thing I look at in a no-start condition is spark and fuel . No spark, no fuel, no compression, no-go. That is why the coil test should be theprimary test in every vehicle ,in every year. Just common sense!Also if you have 15 coil tests in the manual you should be able to access them don't you think? Lastly, 22 yrs. ago in 1998 there were no Chinese clone Tech 2's. The Tech 2 cost $3,000 and were owned by dealers only. If I paid that kind of money for something I expect itto do at least the basic functions. Today for $340. I expect the same thing.So I would like to ask you if you have ever come across any coil test[6and 8 cyl. engines are listed in the manual.} on any vehicle and if not why is there 15 tests in the manual?If anybody would know I figure it would be you. For the lack of parity in diagnostics tests across vehicle lines, I understand the frustration. But coming from software engineering as a career, I can certainly relate to the challenge th GM engineers had of trying to have one dealer tool cover every vehicle from 1993 thru 2013. It's a monumental task given the level of variability and variety across all of the vehicles of this range.

      Tendrá que comprar el GM Tech 2 original de un distribuidor de GM en ebay, tendrá que usar el inglés, porque será difícil encontrar el idioma brasileño, buena suerte, amigo

    DR. Shock , I need help, I have a 200 Chevy Silverado, that had a Hypertech Programmer Program in it, but my Programmer got stolen, so I cant return Programming back to stock, unless i get the ECM/PCM re-flashed... So i bring it to the Dealer, and they attempt to Update and fe-flash, but they Cant, because the Current Software in my truck is the latestest , up to date software, even though there is a Hidden Aftermarket Program that they cant see,,, And their Programmer, im guessing is a Tech 2 , will not update with the same Program... What are they doing wrong? Do they need to choose the option of a replacemant ecu instead of updating the current one??? AHHHHHH The reason im wanting it flashed is becasue i have a new Banks Programmer, and it wont program unless the ECU is clean, and has no other aftermarket programs in it, wich mine has, as the Banks programmer sees the Hypertech Program in the system and wont allow to program, unless it clean...Help!! I read somewhere that mabbe the Tech 2 cannot do what i need done and need a MCI instead? Thanks!

      Neither of the GM dealer type tools, both Tech2 or MDI, are able to deal with aftermarket programming. Neither of them will permit a flash when there is no update either. Both of them will look for a particular GM calibration number, check the ACDelco TIS2Web server and if the number matches what's already on the module they will not proceed. The only exception to this I'm aware of is for _some_ modules, like the PCM, if the VINs do not match the tools will correct that. I'm not familiar with these aftermarket programmers, but I had always heard they show up as a different calibration number to exactly avoid this sort of situation so you can roll back to factory stock. I'm guessing from what you're saying here that this Hypertech one doesn't.

      @@DrShock Having the Hypertech Program Hidden in my current Correct Calibration really isint the issue,,,The issue is that i need to Erase the PCM and re-flash, What if they choose the option of 'Replacing the ecm" instead of "updating current one" or whatever the language is in the options as your going through... Just reprogram with same vin ect... Its just amazing,,, they are able to find that you have after market software when your engine blows under warranty, but in my situation, they say, "no aftermarket software found" and correct calibration is installed....AHHHHH Yet it is indeed in there, and i need to remove it....

      instead choosing "Reprogram ECU" choose the option "Replace and Program ECU"....Would that work?

      Neither of those options would skip the calibrations match check and abort feature, but it is the choice you would make to get the VIN rewritten on those modules where it's allowed such as the PCM. Some modules even prevent changing the VIN (e.g., BCM, and DRR) and force you to replace the module with a new one.

      You may want to post this situation at the Hypertech-inc.com forum as its their product they would know best how to get out of this situation.

      Any particular seller or you recommend?
      I see the prices are all from 250-450 with minimal differences in “accessories”
      I’ve got a 97 suburban, 01 blazer, and 07 Malibu lt - each with their own needs for a tech 2 lol

      I haven't bought one of these in a few years, but as I recall it was down to only two factories in China making them still and both were pretty similar. I'd suggest buy on eBay, so you have a 30 day refund guarantee. And buy from a US based seller, so you're not waiting weeks or having increased shipping damage risk. I couldn't suggest any particular seller as so much time has passed. I will point out that the weak link in these is the clone flash pcmcia type cards that hold the firmware, they are really cheap and fragile so be careful inserting it and then leave the card alone. It won't tolerate more than a few insertion/ejection actions before crapping out in my experience.
