Lars I have watched a bunch of "how to" catch Kokanee videos on You Tube and this is the best I've found. Clear and concise depiction and description of the terminal tackle/gear and great narration. Kudos to the videographer as well. I want to learn how to do this and get after the Kokanee in Lake DeSmet. Well done sir!

Hi Lars! I think I may already know the answer to my question but, is that a Penn 350M reel you are using on your lead core rig? If so, I have a question. I have 2 that I use at Shasta Lake here in California. One works flawlessly but, the other one has a problem with the spiral bar not rotating very well so, the line bunches up on one side of the reel. Do have service your own reels or do you send them out? Or do you know anyone who knows how to work on these reels? I keep running into dead ends. Thank you for any help on this subject. Jeff Wasson

Hi Jeff, you have a keen eye. I do service my reels myself but I too have had issues with that in the past. I use "Break Free CLP" and it should be available at any sporting goods store. It is often located in the gun cleaning supply area. If you can't find it there it is available online. If cleaning and servicing the reel with Break Free CLP doesn't work, I send my reels to a guy back east. He has done many of my reels as well as my dads. He does great work. His contact info is: John Malik; 175 S. Fulton St Woodbridge, NJ 07095. Good luck chasing "blue backs!" - Lars Alsager

Hi Lars, Thank you for the info! I will try the Break Free as you suggested. Those old Penn reels are something else, aren't they? Too bad parts are getting hard to locate. I do have a Penn Warfare size 15 line counter that acquired recently that I have used at Shasta in August and just last week with nice results. Too many spotted bass to count and only one rainbow so far. The CA DFW has been planting Kokes and Kings at Shasta and I am looking forward to March next year! Tight Lines (but not too tight)!!- Jeff Wasson
