Love this episode it’s one of reasons I love Sam. It really made me understand him more. Freak is trigger word for Sam . Throughout the show we see this mainly with the whole psychic thing but in this episode we see it’s a deep rooted issue that been there since childhood. This arc really makes me understand him throughout the series despite some people’s hate for him.

The thing about Dean's character is that he sometimes says things about women/young girls that make him sound like a creep, but he _never_ acts on them. When we *do* see him interact with young girls (thinking s7, s10, the Wayward girls, s14, he is not only respectful, but protective & like a big brother/father figure. What Dean says & what he does are 2 very different things. It comes off as Dean _wanting_ to seem/sound like a stereotypical machismo guy, despite not being like that/the fact he'd absolutely knock out guy who actually went after high schoolers

“Hurt people hurt people” and it’s 100% true I was literally bullied by 4 ppl at the same time as a kid and I never fought back physically and my mom handled the situation her self and they had to receive therapy or I never seen them again I don’t blame Sam for fighting back it wasn’t his fault dirk did it to himself and flipped the script
Sam fought back against his bully, which anyone would try to do, I dont think it's his fault what happened but it's understandable why he would feel a little guilty

Dirk bullied other kids relentlessly, focusing on one to the point of ending his own life. It doesn’t matter how bad stuff was for him at home, I have no sympathy for someone like that. And he only got his butt whooped by Sam by REPEATEDLY attacking and provoking him. Yes, hurt people hurt people. But being in your own pain doesn’t mean you can hurt someone else without consequences.
Nah Nathan you have to realize your body won’t let you fake it before you’re dead. I remember trying to teach my friend how to swim and she panicked and tried to use me as a floatation device and the only thought in my head was “I need air rn” like you literally can’t pretend to stop moving. So I managed to get away from her and breathe and then I pulled her up and tried to calm her down.
I couldn't wait for you guys to react to this episode, it's another one of my favorites. I always love the flashback episodes and they really did a great job with casting Colin Ford and Brock Kelly as young Sam and Dean, respectively. In defense of Sam, he wasn't the villain in this episode. Sure he was a part of the chain reaction that caused Dirk to get bullied by others and ultimately turn to alcohol and drugs, which ended his life tragically at such a young age. But that's not Sam's fault. His goal wasn't to get other kids to start bullying Dirk, he was simply standing up for himself, and that's would anybody would and should do if they're being bullied. If anything, this episode made Sam look more like an inspiration and made him more relatable than the bad guy. And besides, if Sam didn't stand up to Dirk, then somebody else would've and the result probably would've been the same. In defense of Dean, he is just misunderstood. Can Dean come off asshole-ish at times? Absolutely, but that's not his whole character. And just as his girlfriend in the flashback said, the way that he acts is a façade. Here's a man who lost his mom when he was 4, started training at the age of 6, which in turn meant that his childhood and free will was taken away, and he was taken advantage of and manipulated by John amongst other things. What do you think that would do to him? It would cause him to create a persona where he has this hard exterior and showing emotions isn't an option. However, Dean has had moments where he has been empathetic and shown that he has a heart and that he is a good person. It's those conflicting sides to Dean that makes him one of the most humanized characters on the show for me.

I just kinda existed through Highschool. I wasn't bullied, and I wasn't a bully, but I just kinda did my own thing. I hung out with friends, I honestly felt kinda invisible, not in a bad way just in a way that no one bothered me. Like I graduated and passed classes but I wasn't smart enough to be recognized by the teachers, I was just kinda the one that occasionally talked while the teacher was talking and was told to be quiet. XD

The way I see it, Sam isn't wrong for defending himself and his friend from Dirk. On the other hand, he did they guy dirty by turning the rest of the school on him by starting that nickname that followed him for the rest of his life. If he'd let it go after beating him in the fight and just let him walk away, things might not have been so bad for him. But he went and sank to Dirk's level by rubbing salt in the wound once he beat him and made the guy's life much worse as a result.

My favourite young Dean actor was Dylan Everett who doesn't appear until season 9. IMO the actor in this ep felt like someone trying to play Dean whereas Dylan seemed to naturally channel Jensen Ackles as Dean. Colin Ford will always be young Sam.
I hate that line so much. I get it was a different time, but it doesn't seem so different that it would be okay. It's so gross and creepy. When the characters do this stuff I just have to sort of say okay gross and creepy and put it aside so I can still like them. LOL

Phenomenal episode. I love the whole bully backstory with the brothers. Truly touching. There's so much care to go around in this episode; to Dirk, to Barry, to that goated teacher.. It was all great. "Hurt people hurt people" Too true, Davion. Fantastic quote. This and the Christmas episode are two of the best, just because it brings back that heartwarming vibe of the brother dynamic, although we pretty much get that every episode. Awesome reaction guys! Omg I had the greatest idea thanks to you; fuel a fire with every religious books of every religion. I find it a bit dumb sometimes that we still are in a point in our life some people value religion over science. You can still have your religious belief without being in denial. We dont know what happens after death, but we do know a bit about life through science. For a religion to be proven, it would mean that this religion is scientifically proven.
