Lovely images Mark and interesting first thoughts on the lens. It’s something I’m thinking about so will be waiting with anticipation for your final thoughts on it . Enjoy the rest of your stay on Mull , can’t wait to be back
The razorbill photos are absolutely gorgeous! Having sat in exactly the same spot just last Wednesday, I'm nearly sure I got the same immature puffin! I should have watched your video before though, to get more creative in terms of photography, but I was so overwhelmed by the vicinity of these birds I ended up just pointing the camera around. :) Thanks for prolonging one of my most memorable wildlife trips ever.
Hi Marc. Lunga looked a bit greyer and windier than on your first video! Amazing high-key, low-key and close-up photos of our beautiful seabirds. Yes, your experiments definitely worked! As a fellow OM-1 person, thank you for your initial thoughts and impressions of the new 150-600mm lens. I have been thinking about this. The extra reach appeals, the size and weight less so. I currently use the 100-400mm, occasionally with the 1.4x TC. Look forward to hearing your final conclusions in a future video. Richard
I bet that handsome fella walking by at 07:45 is really cool, interesting and also an excellent photographer ;). All joking aside though, nice video and loving those black & white shots 👍
Interested in your comment about chromatic aberration Marc. I have the 150-600 and overall very happy with it. However some images have shown pretty significant chromatic aberration - admittedly in quite challenging lighting etc. Would be very interested in how you deal with it. Not something I have noticed mentioned in other reviews etc of the 150-600. Many thanks.
thanks for the comment Iain. Yes, tbh the chromatic aberration issues to tend to occur in very high contrast situations. I run almost all of my images through DXO PureRaw, and click the setting that works on chromatic aberration - there's usually still a little that remains with this lens, so within lightroom i've been using the "manual" tweaking within the Lens Correction tab. Hope that helps
hi Marc your 300mm F/4 is significantly better in sharpness/resolving power than the 150-600. You certainly have more mm available, but you lose a lot of image quality. they have put a nice budget lens on the market. but they have compromised a lot in image quality. The weight of this lens is also significantly heavier. the 150-400 is more expensive, much more expensive, but also much, much better in the quality images it delivers.
Yes it depends on the conditions really - with good light, I have absolutely no issues with the sharpness of the 150-600. In fact, Mike Lane seems to think that the IQ is fairly comparable to the 150-400, however I wouldn't know as I've never had the chance to test that lens!
I will buy it if I can convince my wife. A Canon 1200mm/8.0 costs over 20.000 Euros and the "Olympus" has an aperature of 6.3 at 1200mm for 2500 euros. Now cames the full format "blablabla", but,but,but.....I`m not interested. The Lens is a zoom is faster and about 20.000euros cheaper. I don`t need to know more.
That was a lovely day on Lunga... Beautiful pictures Marc👍 really like the close-ups. I've become a fan of the razorbills...
Thanks Iris! Haha yes, I think Razorbills are my new favourite

Cheers Stephen! I'm hoping to get time to film a full review at some point this week, so hopefully you won't have to wait too long for it

Haha yes it was a tad! Thanks a lot for the kind words.
I'm hoping to find time to film a full review on the lens later this week :)
Love it mate. I’m a bit of close up fiend myself! 😬😬😂
Top man, thank you Andy 😊 haha, it's honestly not something I usually do, so it was fun to try out
Cracking shots Marc. Isnt that juvi puffin an adult going into winter plumage?
Thanks Rob! It could well be, but the photos I've seen of juvenile puffins look just like that one - but I'm no expert

hahaha, sorry you were well and truly papped! and yes, that man is all 3 of those things 😂 thanks for the comment Jochen!

Appreciate the reply. I was using Lightroom only, so thanks for the pointer to DXO Pure Raw.

haha always worth checking with your wife first! Yes, the reach is absolutely incredible - a very nice lens
