I absolutely love Nimona. I’m glad Disney didn’t finish it off since Ballister and Ambrosius wouldn’t have gotten the relationship they deserved
Oh 100%. And even if they WOULD still be gay, it absolutely wouldn't have been executed that well.
and even if they make them gay, they will hide it or show is very stupid way, where you cant feel thier feelings to eachoter.. but dammm scene with GOLDEN SWORD and heart... almost broke me
I love Nimona too I think the film is amazing
I loved How they treated it like, rightly so ,like a normal relationship and how this time is important to the plot instead of being unimportant for the story and being able in this way to be deleted in bigots countries
At the beginning, I love they set up a rivalry between Ambrosius and Ballister from the media's perspective and then immediately pulled the rug and went "nope! They're in love" and I was so thrilled with that. I'm happy that they both *spoilers*
Lived in the end and got to be happy together
Someone had to.
I think that's why it's such a great adaptation. They have a very similar dynamic in the comics but it's a completely different story. You can go from comics to the movie or from the movie to the comic and get something new while still true to their story.
I was prepared to throw hands if they didn’t kiss at the end
I also like how the lgbtq rep wasn't just there for the company to make some cash, it actually benefited the story a lot.
I just finished watching this myself. It was one of the movies I was looking forward to this year, and ended up easily being one of my favourites of the year.
Definitely in the Top 3 for me so far!
I ABSOLUTELY ADORED this movie. I could seriously gush about it for so long. It's surprising how different it is to the source material yet still *feels* like Nimona. I never hated any of the changes either, and i think some of them imrpoved the story overall. I've seen people say that
*SPOILERS*
the ending would have been better if Nimona didnt come back, and maybe thats true from a narrative perspective but i wouldve been really sad lmao.
Spoiler Response!
It also actually makes sense, at least to me, when she came back in the end. She took the form of a Phoenix! It was very much on purpose, because phoenixes regenerate when they die! It explains why she wasn't concerned or scared when she went charging at the cannon. And why she said "Be right back!" before she went. So she did die. But she rose again from the ashes.
@@cryptid-arthaspoiler response response lmao
you’re so right! it also makes sense because in the comic her ability to heal herself is so strong that her head gets completely cut off, she fully dies, but then is able to shapeshift back into her teen girl form and is fine. I don’t think there was any doubt in Nimona’s mind that she would be able to come back. also i never made the connection to her turning into a Phoenix, turning into ashes, and being reborn again! that’s so cool!
To be fair Balister’s reaction to seeing her again was so funny I barely cared even if that criticism about Nimona not being gone forever isn’t a bad thing-
if anything the ending choice to have nimona come back, not only gives the ending a nice close-off sort of feeling, it also leaves it on a cliffhanger, giving the feeling that the story isnt over even if the movie is. heres hoping for a sequel in the near future.
@@harpinedoodles Nimona: Across the Nimonaverse would be METAL 🤘😝 heheh
This movie brought me to tears at some points. i'm 28 and was closeted until 24 now having a boyfriend of 3 years and wish I had more lgbtq+ representation like this in kids movies when I was young. 10/10 Disney really just missed out on having an award worthy original LGBTQ+ IP.
They wouldn’t have accepted it
I love the movie, I hope there is something more about this project, at least an animated short, the two main characters are very endearing and I would like to see them in more adventures✨
This movie art style had me convinced that some of the people who made arcane were involved with the animation.
I was fangirl squealing the whole movie, I loved it so much
[spoilers]
Don't forget the monster attack. Whenever she screamed it was a combination of a roar & the screams of a little girl. That was a beautiful touch. Reminding everyone that there's still a girl in their. A scared misunderstood girl. Def one of my favorite parts of the movie.
Not a girl. Nimona.
This movie far exceeded all my expectations. So good! So well made!
So damn good. SO DAMN GOOD!! The plot, the characters, the message especially!
100% the best movie if the year and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves. I love that they went more into depth with Ballister’s and Ambrosius’s relationship because it was in the book but you would need to look more into it.
I say everyone go read the book and watch the movie because they are amazing and even though there’s a few things from the book that are missing in the movie it both has the same line
I love when he went holy sh- at the end
i LOVE IT, Once again ND Stevenson is involve in something I unapologetically LOVE.....and this is just another W on animation this year and another L for DISNEY.
Yeah, honestly, Animation is doing pretty well this year. If everything goes as im predicting then apart from whatever Dreamworks is doing this year then everything else will be pretty good!
I'm LGBTQ+. I like that the "Dark Knight" and "The Knight in Shining Armor" are in a very loving and close relationship. Seeing Ballister grab on to Goldenloin (seriously c.c) and clinging in grief after he thought he'd lost Nimona was a beautiful scene because it abandons the idea that masculinity means not showing pain. The way that grief reaches into you, and tears out your insides, and leaves you hollow and bleeding... Anyone who doesn't feel that is not human.
But less commented on is an implication that Nimona could be argued to be gender fluid, in fact a great deal of her character supports this being an allusion to that, though she does primarily answer to she her pronouns, except for when he's a demon baby "And now you're a boy - I am today *grin*"
I find it interesting that the boy form she portrayed is dark haired, wearing all black, as is the form she takes when she falls to her grief, but her feminine forms are all pink, including the phoenix at the end. I wonder if this indicates that "the beat" is masculine... And also wonder if all masculine forms she takes bias that over all aesthetic. Don't really have any way of knowing so *shrug*
I think he only had black hair as a boy because Ballister asked him to "fit in" more, so they changed into a natural hair colour on purpose
Also the gorila form is also male, being bigger and having the iconic "silver-back" brighter fur, yet he is still pink.
I think the all black-white _not even the peach skin of the boy_ form is more a representation of empitness, following colour theory more than anything
@@Let_Toons Perhaps. All the best artwork is open for interpretation
About Nimona being genderfluid, the creator, ND Stevenson, a trans man, has confirmed that he based parts of Nimona's character of himself and his experiences, and he originally wrote Nimona back when he was in college and closeted.
When Nimona describes shapeshifting, you realize that it parallels how many genderfluid people feel when they change the way they present themselves to feel more comfortable with their current gender. And all the slights about "can't you just be a girl" suddenly has a lot more weight.
@@gailhanako I appreciate that confirmation.
I don't really "identify" as anything, I do consider my self gender fluid. The character resonates with me sooooo muuuuuch aaaaaaa..
I've always said if I could have one power I think it would be to shape shift... Like Nimona does. Being locked into one physical state feels so wrong and frustrating and ugghhhh *gag*
Yeah, I noticed the "Why can't you just be a girl" and "and now you're a boy - I am today!" ffffff i feel all of this so so viscerally...
This may come across as weird, but I even have this... uh... Impulse I guess. Like if I am in a hurry I have this urge to drop onto four legs like a cat or a dog and sprint that way to move faster... I can see it, my forelimbs darting out, just visible in my peripheral vision, the lower view point, using my tail as a counter balance when I turn the feeling of the air like wind in my fur... oh there is nothing like the feeling of wind against your body and just the feeling of running wild and free and I craaave it... and then click, I remember I can't do that... because the laws of the universe and shit like that ugh gross I hate reality x.x
Sorry, might have gone on a tangent there..
Had no idea this movie even EXISTED (let alone it’s whole graphic novel it’s adapted from) until like the day it came out. But as some one who was not anticipating the release of this movie, ITS PREETY FUXKING GOOD ITS AMAING I LOVE IT
I beg you to read the book version, it’s so different
I loved picking out the details missing from the show compared to the book. For example when nimona turned from the dark entity to her more conventional form, in the book she turned from such entity to a little girl.
Had zero clue of what I was going into when I watched Nimona. Never heard of the story or had any clue of what to expect. I've watched it 3x now. So well done and entertaining.
This movie was amazing, and watching it make people laugh, cry, and cheer is one of my favorite things ever.
It is so worth! I've been listening to and liking every first reaction youtuber I can find! So brilliant and every person should watch it!
100% agree! I'm an old straight guy in my 70s, and I loved everything about this movie. Turned around and watched it again.
I will watch this amazing film again
I enjoyed it. hope another one of this type happens again.
Finally someone mentioned Eugene's name ❤❤ he was so funny and great in this animation 🥰🥰
Im trans, and i cried multiple times during Nimona. It was everything i could have hoped for and more.
It feels like this movie very quickly became a Queer Event, as we all flock towards the affirmation and representation weve been starved for and its beautiful
Nimona was fantastic! I give it 10/10!
I SWEAR IT IS SO UNPREDICTABLE TOO, YOU DONT KNOW WHATS GONNA HAPPEN ALMOST EVERY SECOND!!
I love this movie
Uncommon Netflix w
Yeah this movie had ne blown away with how good the story was and how good the animation was. Good video!
About the LGBTQ+ themes. Holy. Fucking. Shit. It is so good, it captures so well how "the good gay" doesn't work. For a great part of the movie, Ballister tries to tell Nimona to be less. Less eccentric, don't shapeshift, don't do creepy things and people will accept you. It reflects well for nd people too, but the queer reading is just, perfectly fitting. Ballister represents the quiet, hardworking gay man, that can win other people's tolerance by constantly making his sexuality something that doesn't come into play for anything aside from his romantic life. Nimona represents the queer person, and let's face it, probably gender fluid person, that can't stop showing who they are, because being less means being uncomfortable in their own skin. The part of the movie that struck me the hardest was the one in the subway, where ballister asks nimona if it wouldn't be easier to just, stay in girl form and live a normal life, and Nimona answers with "Easier for who?". The people who are unapologetic about their identity are the people that force others to acknowledge their identity. "I don't like those gays that make it their personality" is often just a way of saying "I like gays only when I can pretend they're not and forget about it" (mind you, I'm not talking here about those who glamorize their sexuality, just those who are very outwardly proud). Ballister spends the whole movie trying to fit in the society that rejected him every step of the way. That is because to everyone there, he is a knight not as a peasant, but DESPITE being a peasant, representing how some people are often praised for being somewhere not despite the discrimination they face, vut despite being a marginalized group, jn my resding despite being queer, as if queerness itself was the problem and not the way society views it
Bro i loved this movie, and Nimona too ive seen it 3 times and at the end of the day its gonna be six, keeep cooking man this video deservers more attention.
Ik you probably won’t see this but damn you have a fire music taste the gallade battle theme is just so good fr fr
Thank God someone saved and finished Blue Sky's final film out of Disney's clutches. Though it is a Netflix original movie. It does feel like it can sit on the same shelf as the 1st Ice Age, Robots, Spies in Disguise, and The Peanuts Movie.
This was fantastic!
I'm seeing a lot of people mention Disney shutting down Blue Sky over the LGBT stuff but leaving out the shut down happened during the Covid Lockdown. A lot of movie and tv shows where delayed, shelved, or cancelled during that time. As easy as it is to fully blame Disney, they are not 100% at fault, more like 75%.
I dont think Blue Sky shut down because of Nimona having gay people. I'm saying thats probably why Disney didn't just finish the film they had full rights to themselves.
@@QuagFire101 I said 75% cause the movie was 75% before Blue Sky closed.
Looking it up, I do think someone at Disney did want to cancel the movie do to a gay couple. Mostly due to a certain magic girl show getting it's 3rd season cut short by a bigot of a CEO at Disney.
@@tristanmilner9511 My apologies, I was not familiar with your game.
@tristanmilner9511 I mean we got 3 episodes that were at no way shape or form cramped with character archs exposition and heartfelt of a whole season...😂
100% agree with u though
@@pixelgamerpro1597 Yeah. They totally didn't use a picture book montage to skip over what could've been episodes.
It's corrected on IMDB - Nimona was only 75% finished in layout when the studio shut down, not 75% of the whole movie.
But didn't Chloe Grace Moretz say in an interview that the movie was almost done?
This is a quote from an interview with the director I think: "The truth is that we were about 70 percent through layout. We had maybe five sequences into animation, and maybe two actually completed. But we had our story reels, we had all our models built, we had all the locations. All that kind of technical stuff, the front end, the design work, that was all done. We knew the story we wanted to tell.”
Metal!
As a queer person who was already wildly in love with the comic, I can say this is an amazing queer story. ❤
I love the movie soooo much and it needs more people to notice
Who could have expected that Eugene from the Try Guys turned out to be a decent actor?
Yea, just agreeing with everthing!!!!
Also love the realtion ship between our two lovers
At first i thought it would be like a rivals golden boy vs up an coming underdog with his name even resembeling goldenboy, making him feel like an spoiled little brat who everybody likes but is a huge dipstick but then getting slapped in the face in the secne when we see they are very much in love is just so much!!! ❤
It wasn't completed in 75% when Netflix became distributor.
So Metal!
i love this movie so much, it was a great surprise for me
It’s kind of strange that both Pixar & DreamWorks arcana flopping in the box office at this point and Studios like illumination, Sony, Netflix are rising up a little bit with their newest movies being The Super Mario Bros movie, Across the spider verse, and of course Nimouna
I love the movie. Especially Nimona.
No question, this one's winning a few Annies this year, it'll get the Oscars nod, and it actually has a chance to win in my opinion. Highly popular with critics and viewers, well made, and tackling a topic the Academy would love to highlight if only to stick it to DeSantis. I hope it's not a one-off, but if it is it'll still leave a lasting impact
It would probably get more than Best Animated in a year where Spiderverse and Miyazaki weren't both also making movies. Oops.
@@QuagFire101 Even with that, I think there's a good shot. Sequels don't have a great track record with the Academy, and neither do foreign films. As an American original at the same level, Nimona may have the edge. Annies are up in the air, I'll give you that, but Academy politics are in its favor
Actually the movie is going all around the media right now
less known? man it just came out
Such a good movie, I loved it.
Love, Love, Loved this movie!
this movie is a underdog, even while working on it didn't thought this movie is going to be this great.
Nimona is a BEAST!!!
I love it too. It was so good I give it a two tomes up, and I watch it last night. So worth it, I am very glad that Netflix give these movie a j unlike Disney who didn't and I still think that there homophobic even to these very day, they band the Owl house and the fans had to fight for there rights to watch it and they give Dina a very hard time for it and she had to fight for her rights to tell her story her way as well as fighting for her rights for her charterers to be gay and bi as well as rain whispers for being Binary. And how Disney didn't want her because of it. Not to forget that it taking years for them to let gay charterers in there shows as good guys and not just back ground charterers or worst bad guys like they did in my day as a kid. I am so very great full for Netflix for giving these movie a good j and that the fans fight for the Owl house in Disney, two great show would have never gotten there j if they fans didn't fight for there rights to watch just great shows and movies. Thank you
How did you post the video on 28th? Didn't the movie air yesterday?
The movie had a one week Limited Theatrical run the week before its June 30th release. Thats what the end was about. I drove to some bumfuck theater in NYC just to see this movie a week earlier.
this movie is up there with dungeons and dragons for me, so so damn good, fun and imaginative.
Agreed 👍
First off I’m gonna ignore the blue sky doesn’t tell good stories thing and second of all that movie was amazing honestly I might watch it again
The only Blue Sky movie I like for its story is probably Ice Age 1. Peanuts and Will Smith Pidgeon are better but I can't say it's because of their stories
@@QuagFire101 I like spies in disguise and Ice Age Continental drift
I'll be really honest, I did not enjoy this movie. I went in expecting a lot more connection between the graphic novel and the movie and I was pretty disappointed. The animation and such are on fleek but I didn't like how hard they deviated from the original source material, but I think that I wasn't coming at the movie with the right angle and so I had a less than enjoyable experience. I'm glad you managed to enjoy the film though!
@druidofscosglen2868 my best guess is that it had to do with the fact his race was changed, which I really don't mind, though it might've indirectly changed Goldenloin's hair
I feel like the beginning of the film was mediocre, but getting closer to the end it got better 👍👍
nimona is my favorite movie this year because i couldn't watch any movies that released this year lol
but i guarantee nimona will be BEATEN the shit out of by the barbie movie.
Disney needs to grow a pair if they're going to gain back trust lost from keeping things safe for "The Children" in light that they should stay "innocent."
Its based on a comic
Why when i watch it the colors are different from what is shown in the trailers? she is purple instead of red. IS IT JUST ME????
That's likely because you're watching a poorly pirated version.

I really just don't know what's going on with them. It's like "yes, we'll greenlight all of the Owl House, including all the episodes with gay and lesbian kisses, but we'll also cut it short without clearly explaining why."
I just want good shows by these talented creators to get made, damn it! Netflix isn't doing great on that department either, * glares at recently cancelled Paranormal Park and Inside Job *
I never even heard of this movie, or any of the stuff leading up to it's creation until 3 days ago when a thumbnail popped up in my RUclips feed, that stated: "HOW NIMONA DESTROYED DISNEY" I clicked and now have watched the movie several times and much of the RUclips commentary about it. IT'S A GREAT MOVIE!!
It's a story about a knight thqt saves a damsel in (emotional) distress and then she saves him and everyone else :P
I'm sure some T.E.R.F.s will use the "I'm not a girl, I'm a shark" against transgender women. That's not a woman! It's a mindless killing machine out to consume your innocent cis girls body and soul!!! F#cking TERFs smh

@@QuagFire101 The red states
The only people you'll *hear* raise any hell about this movie are Moms For Liberty types and shitty GOP politicians catering to them for $$$.
There are plenty of people who will and do value this movie here in Red States. We aren't all a part of the christofascist oligarchy as a consequence of where we live. I think, perhaps arguably, that it's even *more* essential to make sure movies like this get seen by children (and adults) who are less likely to be exposed to ideas and themes that the radicalized institutions around them would negatively label "woke".
Kinda like what the whoooooole movie is about.
I'm from Florida and am the exact opposite of a stereotypical red stater and fucking love this movie for the LGBTQ+ themes. I can say we do exist, just kinda rare, especially in states like Texas and Florida
This is a nice review, but huge miss at not acknowledging that at its core, the movie is allegory for the trans experience. that's the entire point. hence why Nimona attempts at the end.
That is something I wish I brought up, but since the movie wasn't out for very many people when I was writing I think I overcorrected when trying to make it spoiler-free
This the movie Disney REJECTED and it had real LGBT content in it from the source material and decided to add useless LGBT content to movies that did not deserve it like Strange Worlds and Lightyear.
Ok is Disney homophobic ??
Hear me out, I was a hater, I thought nimona was overhyped overrated bs. I AM GLAD I WAS SO FUKING WRONG, NIMONA IS PEAK, AND IF A FUKING HATER LIKE ME ENDED UP LIKING IT, YALL WILL LOVE IT. The animation is easily the best part about this movie.
So, I tried reading Nimona awhile back. Holy. Shit. It was so fucking boring.
Let me explain:
-The plot drags a lot.
-The humor was very hit or miss (mostly miss).
-The art is genuinely PAINFUL to look at.
-The story itself is VERY slow and boring.
Overall, the comic is overhyped, at best.
That's perfectly fine! I haven't read the comic or the novel myself, so I can't really say much about it, but I enjoyed most of the story stuff in the movie. So that's fine!
