    Anna, thank you for using our quilter's light table on your video ♥ It was so much fun to watch your video and see you using our light table!! I called my husband right away to tell him!!! I now use Pellon SF 101 thanks to your recommendation. I have never tried Soft Fuse, so will try that too. Your videos are always so much fun to watch. I look forward to each new one. G's tunes always put me in a happy mood.

    Anna, I so enjoy your videos and usually settle down with a cup of tea because it is just like visiting with a good friend. I saw your video on the Buttermilk Basin pattern “Bringing Home the Trees” (is that the correct title?) and immediately got on their website and ordered the 1st block. BUT!! I have never worked with wool!! even though I have been quilting for about 35 years. So this video was very timely and I learned a lot about working with the wool. I have done some appliqué and the one thing that seems different with the wool is with cotton appliqué you sew the pieces down from the bottom up. I mean you lay down the piece that is on the bottom of the appliqué, like the stem, stitch that down and then layer the other pieces up in order. (I’m not sure I’m making sense there). But with the wool it looks like you fuse ALL the pieces and then stitch. So for example, the petals of the flowers are fused on top of the stem and the part of the stem under the petal is not stitched. Is that right? I guess I will have to take a Sue Spargo class😉 sometime soon.

You have me in wool mode now and have a truck kit on it's way from Buttermilk. Shopped for all those shiny objects. I love all you projects And clever tip so I am gonna spend the rest of my Sunday watching your videos.

    I’m a huge Yoko Saito fan, have most of her books & have taken classes with her when I was in Japan. I have never seen her work done in wool before. Does it make the quilt heavy? Her fabric is hard to find in Australia so I might try wool when I run out of the fabric I bought in Japan. I love her taupe palette & how she uses plaids. The flannel flowers in Yoko’s quilt are made from a plaid, she fussy cut the petals so the lightest colour was at the end & a deeper colour from the plaid at the middle. The fabric you chose for the flannel flowers will look much better than a plain fabric would.
    Greetings from Australia

    Hola!, adoro los diseños de Yoko Saito y tengo algunos libros de ella, el ultimo lo compre hace unos dias en la Feria Internacional de Patchwork de Sitges (Barcelona) . Yo aun voy despacito con el aplique pero lo voy practicando aunque me queda mucho para llegar a los suyos, le estan quedando preciosos y admiro su organizacion en la preparacion de su block, es usted una buena maestra.
    Muchisimas gracias por enseñarlo.

    Hi Anna, I really love your blog and videos, so thank you. Now, because of this video I purchased Yoko's book to do this quilt in wool. When I opened the pattern that came with the book the sheet only give half of the border patterns..... am I right in assuming that when I take it to the copy shop to have it enlarged I need to ask that to enlarge the pattern of half a border on the sheet and then ask them to make a mirror image then stick them together to make the full border. Thank you for any help or advice you can give.

    • @quiltroadies1695
      @quiltroadies1695  6 лет назад

      ....or if you didn't want to spend the money because it is a little spendier to get such a large copy you can use the pattern through the reverse side to make the other half :)

    I have made the “plunge” into wool appliqué! I have ordered BOM Primitive Garden from Pioneer Quilt Shop! I told Lorene on phone that you had inspired me after having watched many of your videos! Hope I am not in over my head toooo deep! I have done appliqué but not with wool. I will need to purchase my thread/floss and needles. How many strands do you normally embroider with if using the VALDONI? And I recall you use a chenille #24 needle. Glad and so appreciative of all your time and efforts to teaching this art.

    • @quiltroadies1695
      @quiltroadies1695  6 лет назад

      That is a stunning BOM!!! You are going to have a wonderful time :) With Valdani you just use it directly off the spool...no separating the threads :) and yes I use a chenille needle because of the large eye.

    Thank you Anna for another great video! I am jumping on the wool train and eager to begin a new projects after all your inspiring videos!! I wonder if you could give me some advice on selecting threads what brands/types & colors to purchase to begin with? I don't know where to start it seems overwhelming to me. Did you begin by purchasing kits for example or are there starter packs that I can purchase? I have already bought some wool/flannel pieces and Sue Spargo's book, "Creative Stitching" plus another book "A Cottage Garden" for ideas. Just need to get thread & needles! Thanks for any advice you can give me!!

    • @quiltroadies1695
      @quiltroadies1695  6 лет назад

      I did buy kits and still do...you get just what you need. Sites like Buttermilk Basin and Primitive Gatherings have notions you can buy. I usually use Valdani and I know that some times you can buy thread kits for projects on the Primitive Gatherings and Sue Spargo sites...so glad you are joining me in the crazy world of wool!

    Beautiful Quilt! I am a bit new so I have a question. Would you or could you use a wool quilt for the bed or is this something you would only do for the art? I have only ever seen art quilts for the wall but I do wonder if it would be to hot to sleep with?

    • @quiltroadies1695
      @quiltroadies1695  6 лет назад

      I think the bigger issue is cleaning a wool bed quilt. I do know that people use wool batting and it makes quilts warmer but I am not sure I would ever use a fully wool quilt on my bed. It would have to go to a dry cleaners and I know that would cost a small fortune!

  • @janetsandgran2062

    Love your videos. I have a question for you. Would you use SF 101 if you were fusing wool on flannel?

    • @quiltroadies1695
      @quiltroadies1695  6 лет назад

      most definitely!!! the reason I use the SF is 2 fold...first cotton or flannel is not as heavy as the wool and it help it hold up to the weight of the wool and if I am using wool as a back ground it is stretchy and it keeps the integrity of the wool so it doesn't look wobbly when I get done stitching all the motifs :)

      Joan Davies Oh I can believe it. I would have thought with Winnipeg being so far south that MAYBE wool applique would be at least KNOWN? Not. Grand Forks and Hobby Lobby, here I come! Do you go to Duluth?

      Luckily we're right on the border - we're a twin city with Sault Ste. Marie Michigan - no wool there either! We usually cross the mighty Macinac Bridge and drive further into mid Michgan where THERE IS WOOL....lots and lots of lovely wool. It can be a bit pricey still, and we have to watch the exchange rate, but we always manage to find some wonderful wool that just has to come home with us.

    Hi Anna, I am a new follower and love you video's. I also love Buttermilk Basin and I am a follower of them. I wanted to know what town are you driving through on the beginning of your video's? It looks like such a cute town. I wanted to put it on my list of places to visit. Thank you for your video's!

      Thank you! I have and my method is I gave up dieting of any kind, no counting, no cost but it is a lifestyle change. Whole Foods, Plant based...no processed foods...I am cooking a lot and am loving it. not for everyone but it has been wonderful for me and I feel fantastic. Check out the book How Not To Die (lol) and ruclips.net/user/NutritionFactsOrgvideos

      LMBO! Only a Nurse gets it! LOL! I live the same lifestyle, sort of, and have for years (childhood spent on Grandparents' farm makes me love only true, traditional food including raw milk and of course the Japanese good stuff ;) ). I love not counting or worrying about anything except baggy clothes LOL! I'm not plant based but I do only eat stuff I grow so it's all GMO, Horror-moan, Antibios-free and wormed w/DE which I also take daily and surprisingly lowered cholesterol counts for both me and hubby, WOO HOO! Anyways, you look GREAT! and you seem to have more "emergy" LOL! TFS! Cuz ;) (HUUGS) and keep up the good work, you know I'll be watchin! ^ _ ^

      ya know that was what I told G the other day...the lethargy is gone. Unfortunately for us growing anything around here is a challenge as the local landscapers eat EVERY thing in the spring!
