06:30 dude you had a beer can looted at the beginning of the video, alcohol works as well to sleep while in pain. An advice drink only 1/4 so you have 4 shots for each beer, wine you find
Very good point, and to be honest I don't know if I just overlooked it at the time, or it was an active decision or what. But I'll pin your comment because it's good advice.
If you find an axe, you can get logs and make a campfire. When you get to the crossroads you can just set the zombies on fire. If you don’t have a lighter or matches, if you have a saw, you can make notched planks
>kitchen not on fire >finds cans of food AND a can opener >goes to store finds cabbage seeds an a trowel >finds a duffel bag >forages a hunting magazine Yeah that start was absolutely super lucky.
There's a 4 part series that is much less lucky. I restarted multiple times untenable starts, and showed all the other locations I check when I don't get lucky. I may make another playthrough because this has been a common complaint, along with it being recorded less than a month before limping was introduced and people thinking it would change the run/routing.
Great video friend. Just followed your guide, I headed straight to the north farm and got a shovel there, which pretty much saved my run. Then I moved up north, then south to the abandoned house, got jumpscare and scratched, then to the train station, got zero from all of this except for the scratch. Then I headed to the shady trailer, got pretty much nothing of use while I was starving. Then I realized that I hadn't got the burglar trait, so no car for me. Since I already had x2 shovels and some good weapons, I headed to the trailer park to get some food and maybe a car. Fought my way in for 2 days but the zombie count was just overwhelming. I then escaped to the cabin west of the trailer park and got the idea to just walk to the final house. And that's exactly what I did. Blazed my way through the woods, got to the farm, got a little bit of supplies but the zombie numbers were also too much (all of this and I still got the cold, the groin injure healed itself after the trailer park). Then pretty much headed straight to the mansions by the river. By far the hardest, most fun adventure I've had in the 40ish hours I have on this game. Thanks for the guide, it literally saved me a few times.
It's so awesome you made it work! The zombie counts in CDDA are just absolutely nuts, but you, friend, clearly handled it like a champion. Here, I think you dropped this on your very, very long hike to the mansions 👑
This guy was helpful, thank you! For my build I gave myself “Gerald Williams” traits and made myself unemployed. My character is completely terrible but that’s what makes progressing with him more fun! I didn’t want to risk my character fighting all those zombies cause he is so weak, so after curing my cold on day one and getting some good loot, I walked past McCoy to the abandoned cabin to loot some more stuff and spend the night. Then I looted all the houses surrounding the permanent base you mentioned in the base and I’m just trying to survive now. Thanks for your help!
I'm extremely glad I could help you out! Hope all goes well, the hordes and respawns can be a bit nutty but embracing the "its a journey not a race" mentality helped me a lot with long term survival. Keep doing well!
@@WavesyGetsGood thank you so much! I’m considering looting riverside for a sledge hammer and other tools to help me progress but I’m scared of the hordes. Is it a good idea to check it out?
This guide is a life saver! Currently I've made the camp grounds my base and have survived 15 days there thanks to my Park Ranger build. But after watching your guide I will certainly be migrating to the mansions in West Point. The camp grounds are nice but it feels really unsafe due to how open it is - that being said I haven't seen a single zombie appear despite hearing distant gun shots every few days. I still don't feel completely comfortable knowing that I'm near a road with no fences.
@@WavesyGetsGood Yeah that is a good point, I survived the chopper event here with not single zombie in my woods. Perhaps I'm just being paranoid. Either way my character is depressed living in the woods with no cigarettes so an exodus is required.

@@WavesyGetsGood Hey mate! I've been playing on and off but I managed to survive winter thanks to your advice! I eventually moved to the houses you recommended and was able to start a potato and strawberry farm thanks to some lucky drops. Combine that with level 10 foraging and even in winter I could find pretty awesome loot and food. Am now looking to finally get a car and generator to further my chances of survival :D
Would it be a good idea to walk to Ekron to hit up the Farming Supply Store from the permanent base you mentioned in the video?I’m in desperate need of seeds as I’m not confident in my ability to make it through winter without the use of farming. I have a decent amount of food to help me on my journey, and I’ll be able to pick up more food and loot in the houses I find along the way. My plans for when I make it to Ekron is to A. Sneak through Ekron, get to the farming supply store, quickly run in and get some seeds/supplies and run out of there or B. Lure all the hordes in the town and burn them with Molotovs. Plan B will mean I get to loot the whole town but it’s really risky and I don’t know how big the zombie population is so it might do more harm than good. What do you think I should do?
Ekron will be pretty densely populated, but if you feel comfortable to pull and burn a huge horde, I imagine you could safely accomplish it and return back in 2-3 days. Make sure your car is in good shape and don't abuse it too heavily. Keep enough food and water in your backpack. Farming will be helpful but alternatively I would consider fishing and supplementing with looting runs. Either way, take it slow, plan your approach and your escape + back up escape, and go for it. Best of luck.
I did this in a different way: 1) grab curtains and rip them, remove glass and bandage the wound, then run north to farmhouse, clear of zombies and get dressed 2) After some sleep go east to the dirt road, south to the paved road, then go east along the dirt road, there is a little wooden shack in the woods a fair ways west with a trailer with science equipment and gun cabinets in it 3) This area seems to be good for berry foraging so forage berries all day and then sleep through night until your cold is gone 4) Go back west until you reach the rail line, follow it south and south-west until you reach the part where it starts to turn south-east, at this point you should run west through the forest, bringing you close to the Muldraugh medical shop. Clear zombies careflly til you can get inside, get some disinfectant and a suture needle, stitch your deep wound and disinfect it, then make your way back to the forest cabin and forage around there til the wound is healed 5) Now you can play the game like any other run
This isn't a bad route, I might just have to give it a shot. Do you know about what day roughly you arrive in Muld? And how the heli event goes in that town? Glad to hear you're staying alive out there 🫡
@@WavesyGetsGood I have improved my strategy: Rip curtains to bandage wound and then crouch run north to the farm. Crouch run seems to be faster when wounded for some reason. Don't even bother to get clothes just get to the farmhouse, grab a weapon from the shed, kill zombies and get dressed. If you are lucky there are sleeping pills, take them and sleep immediately and the cold will be gone! Sleep for another day to be sure. If there are no pills then you will have to stay a couple extra nights to be rid of the cold. You hopefully at least found a tool for digging, there is a large zombie filled shed just a little north that might have one, then you can dig for worms to eat at least. In any case, once the cold is gone, walk all the way through Muldraugh to the medical place. If you were lucky with sleeping pills then you can have the suture needle and disinfectant on day 3. To safely loot the clinic just walk around outside it shouting and gather all zombies in the area into a big ball by walking around them in circles. Lead them down south 4-5 blocks then run back up north, climbing the tall fences as you go to confuse the zombies and prevent them following you back. You can hopefully now sneak into the clinic, rest your stamina back and get the meds you need, then just head back north to the farm. At this point its fairly easy to survive by foraging or looting. houses can be looted safely just be luring the zombies away then running back after breaking line of sight. Helicopter event happened while I was trying to loot the logging company, so I ran north to the area with 2 portacabins with a big chain fence and stayed there til it left. When I got back to the farm there were zombies everywhere so had to crowbar them all, could've lured them as well I guess. Luring is your friend in CDDA
is it just me or is this challenge way harder now? there are so many zombies while you are sneezing, but i think it’s especially hard now that we limp. i never see people limping in the videos
I uploaded a 4 part series with limping. By and large the route is the exact same. I don't show the resets, sometimes you just get bonked and nothing can be done about it. To make it easier, you can skip going to the convenience store, loot the neighbor's house and immediately head north to the farm house. It's challenging, but not impossible. Maybe I should do another short vid on it with the limping.
I think this is very luck reliant, but I agree that staying in the city sucks, it's either escaping or days upon days of burning neighborhoods (that respawn) and trying to win a war of attrition with them, and they have the advantage
It's a little luck reliant, but it maximizes your chances to get lucky enough to keep going. And I agree, staying in the city is just miserable. It's a ton of constant pressure from moment one.
But you need to go to crossroads in order to acquire a car, at least with this strategy. It's also a place to grab food, a freezer, and some other supplies. It is bypassable, but you lose out on some extremely valuable loot.
"luckily there weren't any zombies around"... Yeah, right. I've started 10 times now and it's f****ng impossible, thousands, figuratively millions of zombies outside every single time. AND, I changed my build around, but I always start as an already limping character.
It's tough to get a decent start, but as long as you get some shoes and something to bandage your wound, you can survive. As far as the limping, the strategies still work, but if you want to see the strategy with a limp, the episode 1 of the raw footage shows how I did it with a limp. If I can help in any way, let me know. I can probably stream tomorrow and chat if it would help. Best of luck.
every time I kill a zombie more come and more and more and more and I can never take clothes and rip sheets in time to bandage myself and because you limp because of your wound im too slow to get away from the zeds and eventually either die from scratches and bites or bleed out from the wound
The update has made it a bit rougher starting out. If you're really struggling, my best advice is to axe the idea of going to the convenience store, get a pair of shoes and and bandage your wound and immediately head north. You'll be able to get clothes at the farm house. What isn't shown in the video, and the raw stream upload of a second run, is that I do reset a lot til I get a good start. It's just kind of the nature of CDDA. Don't give up hope. Get your shoes and your wound patched and book it. You can do this!
Absolutely! Next video I'll increase the audio further. I'm always afraid I'm going to have it be ear-destroyingly loud, but I'll crank it up some more next time, pinky promise!
Holy shit that's a silly lucky start. Food AND a can opener? No zombies near your home? Holy. I don't think people should try to go to the little convenience store since limping with 20 burning zombies on your ass that are faster than you. This was probably a great guide, but it's time for a new one :D Edit: still works, riskier but may well be worth it.
This guide is actually quite old at this point, I did upload a newer version somewhat recently that includes the new limping mechanic, as well as a few livestreams. TLDR, they changed how the deep wound affects your movement, but it's still manageable and the route still works.
@@miscellaneousman8364 I finished recording this in November, and you're right that since then, you do spawn with a limp. I tried a quick run, and the route and techniques were still viable even with the limp. If you run into any issues, let me know and I'll do my best to help.
@@WavesyGetsGood This guide is certainly outdated. Yesterday I had my best run yet, I cant even get close to any populated area without dozens of zombies swarming me. I ended up surviving 3 days before dying because my character re-caught the cold and drew in the hordes. Btw and I have survived several months on other saves so I wouldn't call myself a noob.
That is really unfortunate. In that case, I would forgo going to the north farming area and head directly east to the little cabin for your first night. It's riskier but in your case it would be your best bet.
@@WavesyGetsGood also what I usually do in cdda is just wear as much clothes as possible, run around in the house and after that speed up time to get rid of my sickness lol. I don’t see a lot of people do that
What I don't show is my resets 😅 you just have to get a good start, and that entails a bit of luck. I have considered remaking the video but it's a lot of effort and I don't think it would get much views 😮💨
The best spawn I got was burglar and the bathroom of the house was not on fire I grabbed sheets for rags then snuck my way to the farmhouse lucky I got a knife from zed and found sticks and rock to make hammer and axe but my luck end when I tried to find the small lake and was greeted by a group of zeds
The raw footage might be helpful. You might skip grabbing the trash bag on the way to the convenience store, or risk jettisoning it all together. But yeah, it is a little trickier now.
Yes, but you don't see the times I reset because of bad starts. It's better to set yourself up for success early and reset when youre a minute in, than have a sketchy start and waste an hour or two.
@@WavesyGetsGood Quite right. Ive attempted CDDA about 20 times or so. only once did i make it anywhere. set up at the Rusty Rifle. The respawn rate of the zeds made me depressed in the end. Now i have a successful solo character in Eary Country.
@@ditzyneko637 i agree with you about the density of zeds. CDDA would be a lot more enjoyable if population wasn't set to insane. After a while it's not even particularly challenging, it just becomes very tedious.
seriously? you picked underweight? the challenge uses the old settings from the "6 months later" challenge from B40. That means you will find little food and most of it will be low calories. Obese is the better pick as you can turn it into a positive trait instead of a negative one since you will have more fat on you to last you till you get a full food source.
Food didn't end up being a concern, but it's viable. Obese also reduces your movespeed in the early stages when it's very important. Clearly underweight is fine if it can stabilize, but it's a preference thing.
@@WavesyGetsGood I have no issue running away to the north farm from the spawn after tending to my wound with obese, you just hold shift and press "go to." Your charcter will do a quick start, which is much faster than just crouching and running while you have an unstitched deep wound. You just keep spamming that until you're safe.
@@WavesyGetsGood Also, before watching this, i tried to bolt to the southern convenience store, but i always died because the zombies just heard my coughing and would start breaking from all sides, and i would just get surrounded.
You can check out the 4 vods from start to finish, or the newer version of this for another perspective that includes the limping. The strategy and routing is essentially the same, though.
Yes, it was a joke about how super sprinters is significantly harder than CDDA. Those aren't the settings used, pretty clearly. The groin wound was changed after this video came out. I recommend watching the new video on CDDA, or the livestream upload for the updated mechanics regarding the groin wound.
This guide was made outdated from a content patch. There's a longer livestream upload with the limping mechanic, and the newest video on the channel is a new updated CDDA guide. Cheers!
@@Uraburra you can use shift to jog, and it slightly increases your movement speed. There's another guide on the channel about avoiding every horde, when you're limping/freezing/panicked, it makes it harder but the methods largely still work. Horde management can be difficult, but I have been uploading an unedited, raw playthrough of cdda that shows you how I have pulled it off. The reality is some starts are just untenable, and that's okay, better to reset right at the start and get a good start setting yourself up for success. Let me know if I can help in any way.
nice guide, lmao, "for some reasons" there was 0 zombie outside, while i got at least 5 in every of 20+ tries, for some reason ur leg is not injured also, lmao
So what isn't shown, and I mention in both this and a separate extended cut, were the amount of resets I cut out to get a good start. And this video was released less than a month before the CDDA changes. The extended should have the limping which ultimately does not matter and does not change the routing or strategies in any way. But maybe it's time for a new CDDA video and I'll tackle a different strategy, let me know if that's something you would be interested in.
@@WavesyGetsGoodi just was new to the game and started cdda right after tutorial, got frustrated af and blamed here after 30 runs with 0 hope. Its actually pretty easy to escape in most starts if RNG not terrible
It's a viable option, but the downside if you can go a while without finding cigs or fire. And fighting with all the ailments + depressed/sad and anxiety makes things significantly harder. I generally wanted to give a solid foundation build that most people can just copy and use while learning the game mode.
It's about 9-10 months? If you want to see that exact change, there's a series on the channel called "The Raw Footage", and it shows a playthrough with the changes. Long story short is you have to be more cautious, but the strategies still wok.

This was probably a great guide, but it's time for a new one :D Edit: still works, riskier but may well be worth it.
Well you're in luck, my latest video is the updated version, convenience store included ;)
@@WavesyGetsGood I stand corrected. Works better than I thought, might be risky but that's the name of the game.
How can you run with the cut on the leg? My character always limps, running makes it a lot easier
This guide is actually quite old at this point, I did upload a newer version somewhat recently that includes the new limping mechanic, as well as a few livestreams.
TLDR, they changed how the deep wound affects your movement, but it's still manageable and the route still works.
From the title i thought it was a guide to Cataclysm DDA 😅
I'm sorry! The downside of trying to keep titles concise 😅 though it is inspired by Cataclysm!
Is this Guide outdated? I notice your character isn’t Limping at the start.
This guide is not outdated. Often you'll get a foot injury by stepping on fire, barefoot in the grass or by stomping your first zombie.
@@WavesyGetsGood My character spawns right in Limping, and this is Version 41.78
@@miscellaneousman8364 I finished recording this in November, and you're right that since then, you do spawn with a limp. I tried a quick run, and the route and techniques were still viable even with the limp. If you run into any issues, let me know and I'll do my best to help.
@@WavesyGetsGood Walking down that road is death on vanilla
@@WavesyGetsGood This guide is certainly outdated. Yesterday I had my best run yet, I cant even get close to any populated area without dozens of zombies swarming me. I ended up surviving 3 days before dying because my character re-caught the cold and drew in the hordes. Btw and I have survived several months on other saves so I wouldn't call myself a noob.
This is truly excellent
Thank you, America! 🇺🇲
So… my farm house was burnt down
That is really unfortunate.
I don’t see a lot of people do that
Btw every time I spawn there is a horde of zombie what do I do 😅?
What I don't show is my resets 😅 you just have to get a good start, and that entails a bit of luck. I have considered remaking the video but it's a lot of effort and I don't think it would get much views 😮💨
The best spawn I got was burglar and the bathroom of the house was not on fire I grabbed sheets for rags then snuck my way to the farmhouse lucky I got a knife from zed and found sticks and rock to make hammer and axe but my luck end when I tried to find the small lake and was greeted by a group of zeds
im on my 20th try, build 41.78 makes this challenge super fuckin hard :(
The raw footage might be helpful. You might skip grabbing the trash bag on the way to the convenience store, or risk jettisoning it all together. But yeah, it is a little trickier now.
you had an incredibly lucky start.
Interesting...
You can check out the 4 vods from start to finish, or the newer version of this for another perspective that includes the limping. The strategy and routing is essentially the same, though.
You're clearly running here mate plus right before the video starts there is a flashed screen of sandbox aettings?
Yes, it was a joke about how super sprinters is significantly harder than CDDA. Those aren't the settings used, pretty clearly.
The groin wound was changed after this video came out. I recommend watching the new video on CDDA, or the livestream upload for the updated mechanics regarding the groin wound.
Will do thanks @@WavesyGetsGood
I thougtht this was for cdda
This guide was made outdated from a content patch. There's a longer livestream upload with the limping mechanic, and the newest video on the channel is a new updated CDDA guide.
Cheers!
I think your guide is outdatet.
My character is limping
Also there are Zombies EVERYWHERE
Not outdated.
Guide still works.
Check the raw footage if you want to see it with a limp.
True, i hoped to get info on how to avoid hordes of zombies that constantly cutting you off, while almost jumping on one leg
But the fact that you didnt pick shortsighted and smoker confuses me, basically free points, or at least minus the underweight
It's a viable option, but the downside if you can go a while without finding cigs or fire. And fighting with all the ailments + depressed/sad and anxiety makes things significantly harder.
I generally wanted to give a solid foundation build that most people can just copy and use while learning the game mode.
Is the limp a new thing for CDDA?
It's about 9-10 months? If you want to see that exact change, there's a series on the channel called "The Raw Footage", and it shows a playthrough with the changes. Long story short is you have to be more cautious, but the strategies still wok.
