Louise Post was able to convince Richard Patrick and Brian Liesegang of Filter to reconcile. I love it. I think it's great when bands can put aside their differences and make music again.
I saw Veruca Salt at a midnight show on my 21st birthday at Empty Bottle. I also went to Columbia College in Chicago and for one of my classes, we had to break down their equipment at Chicago Dress Rehearsal Studios. Me and my best friend in the class got to meet them and we helped the road crew at a show that weekend and I remember the band “Hazel “ opened for them. Saw them with Dig and Juliana Hatfield at Metro too. I have American Thighs on vinyl, cassette, and cd lol. I also have the Minty Fresh 45 of Seether. I remember being so blown away by them and had the biggest crushes on Nina and Louise. Steve Lack was so nice to me and my buddy. His dad owned Lack Funeral Home in Chicago. Just really cool people.
I was at that Veruca Salt/Dig/Juliana Hatfield show at Metro too! It was 2/14/94. Somebody had given Juliana a PJ Harvey T-shirt she was thanking them for. Juliana had been quoted jokingly saying "Girls can't play guitar," so when she got on stage, she praised Veruca Salt, adding "I know I said 'girls can't play guitar,' but I take it back!"
Surprised he didn’t mention Post’s monumental contribution to the greatest song ever written, Everlong. That harmony over the phone is pure brilliance.

It was right there with Ministry and The Young Gods that I saw at the International Ball room in Atlanta. I still love Mazzy Star and since I am old school I keep their CD's in the car.
Read the title of the video and thought, “yeah, what DID happen to Veruca Salt?”. Always liked this band. So it’s (to me anyway) always fun to see where everyone lands. Enjoyed the video! ❤️💜💚
first time I ever heard the song "all hail me" I got shivers down my spine. Eight arms was a sonic masterpiece and the engineering was like gold. im still kicking myself for missing their last reunion tour. hate myself for that one
@@lesyeuxsansvisage1157 could've swore that's what it wss called. Not too far from the Space Needle. Maybe I'm off on the name after all these years but I definitely remember the concert.
I caught them in concert in Atlanta in 1997 quite by accident, but I really enjoyed the show. Local H was their opening act, making that show one of the most “late ‘90s” shows I’ve ever attended 😂
I also believe that this was at the same time that Louise and Dave Grohl had just broken up. And Foo Fighters was one of my favorite bands at that time, just murdering the charts with banger after banger (Monkey Wrench, Everlong, My Hero, etc).
Wow, Veruca Salt, Mazy Star, The Pixies, Sunny Day Real Estate, Pavement, The Breeders, Soundgarden, Nirvana; so many of my favorite bands mentioned all at once! Not to mention a killer pic of David Bowie with two others! 😎
Having grown up in Chicago in the 90s I've seen Veruca Salt live a couple of times including a really awesome show at the Riviera. I still love me some Veruca Salt, American Thighs is a really good album. Excuse me while I go put on Spider-Man 79
For sure one of my top 10bands of the 90's. They are like Black Sabbath with pixie fairies as vocalists, and their incredible vocal harmony sound is like aural honey to me. American Thighs was so good it changed my whole outlook on female-fronted bands. Saw them on the Volcano Girls tour and they were on fire. If you haven't heard the later track "Shutterbug" you HAVE to check that out if you ever liked them. Nina and Lousie are still hot, still great, and if you ever get the chance to see them, do it.
8 Arms is still their masterpiece.. Though a local Chicago band, when they did their '15 come back, it was rare to hear the new stuff on any Chicago radio station, even WXRT. They played a couple songs for like 2 months, and that was it. Still a big fan here though!
I got a chance to see the original line-up in Philly when they got back together. They were absolutely amazing! Ghost Notes is a deep album. It makes me happy and sad at the same time.
Louise Post is the back bone, common dinominator.... she kept it going with killer albums and band mates. She's also going on tour now with her own solo album. 2023 ❤
'American Thighs' is one of the best Rock albums of the 90's! 'Spiderman 79' and 'Wolf' are 2 of my all time favourite songs! And, oh man, i had a serious crush on Louise! 🎸❤✌
No doubt about this group of people having a unique influence on the industry beyond the 90's. There's something magical about a band that has such beautiful chemistry with each other and their fans, producers that transcends beyond description, ty for delving into some of their history @Rock and Roll True Stories
Jez, hearing the timeline on their story just makes me realize how freaking old I am. I was out of high school when they first hit the local Alt Rock station.
I've seen them a few times. Way better than that Hole. I like Nina's use of a delay pedal to make wild oscillating sounds that abruptly stopped, going into the next part. Just a cool trick that I tried everywhere for the next week.
Another great band from my youth, i used to listen to them non-stop! i remember being at a bowling alley of all places and they were on a TV set, with no volume on, in the background. It was their appearance at the Glastonbury festival. I remember just seing them perform and be like "who are these guys!? they look awesome"
I think I know what that private matter is that they are referring to. Back in November of 1997, I saw Veruca Salt at the Madison Theater in Peoria, illinois. A friend of mine who ran the lighting for the show that night told me that a big blowout occurred backstage between Nina and Louise, after it was discovered that one of them was screwing the other's boyfriend who happened to be a member of the opening band. Looking back, Louise seemed very disconnected from the live experience that night and chain smoked like crazy. But she did wear the Reo Speedwagon shirt that night as seen in this video.
This actually matches the rumor of that period. Louise probably had a secret affair with Blake Smith, member of Fig Dish, the band opening for VS in Peoria, Nov. 1997. But at the end of 1997 Nina had already dumped him, he was her ex-boyfriend (she was flirting and dating with Stacey Jones, the new drummer for the tour) ... but this fact did not lessen her enraged reaction to Louise's backstabbing and dude-stealing.
@@michelergo iirc, they had two openers that night, and they both sucked. I saw Louise sitting stage right watching the second opener with stink eye most of the time. Probably the band with mr. boy toy.
I saw them and PJ Harvey open up for Live at The Gorge Amphitheater in 1997...I really don’t remember what they sounded like though. The only thing I remember about PJ Harvey is the lead singer was wearing just a bra and panties with a see through fishnet dress over them that was neon orange and lit up by a stage light directly on her.
We saw them in 97 also at Star Lake Amphitheater in Burgettstown,PA with PJHarvey and Live.Great show .My dtrs first concert at 16 ! We got hit by a bottle of pee from some West Virginians behind us. It was a very memorable night 🌙 ✨. Lol
I’ve seen VS many times as the opening act. Nina had this cool part where her guitar would have an effect whirling around and she’d kill it setting up for a dynamic shift for her vocal to come in again. Clever. I liked VS more than Nirvana.
Um hi was in a major movie in 99. With thie hit Volcano Girls. Just saying cuz more than a one hit wonder in my eyes. But we are people who comment on RUclips. Meanwhile they are still collecting on Jawbreaker movie gig.
@@wilcross50 sure as long as you check your attitude. Bro have you looked at it out there above your screen? There are FAR MORE WORSE THINGS TO BE PISSED OFF AT! Obviously you dislike the band. Eh karma will get to you eventually...................Wait maybe it has since you bully on social media 🤔🎤
So we still dont know exactly what happened, only that it is private. Which is fine. I loved their music and always hoped they would reunite. I had a great time at their shows!
You should do a video on Patty Schemel leaving Hole during the recording of Celebrity Skin because the producer replaced her parts with a session drummer. Funny enough it's the same thing that happened with the Foo Fighters during The Colour and the Shape which was recorded around the same time.
@@daveg4236 Obviously. The point is in both scenarios the drummer for the band was determined not good enough when they were recording and their parts were scrapped. And in both scenarios the drummer ended up leaving the band because of this.
Cool video! And thanks for the info! I never knew much about this band. It certainly is a feel-good story at the end for a bunch of very talented people!
I saw The Donnas in Nov '04 in Denver and I was pinned up against the front of the stage. Allison's Marshall amp was aimed right at my head and was the perfect volume. I was in Heaven!! I did not get to meet any of the girls, but I got one of Allison's guitar plectrums. Torry Castellano wrecked up her wrists buy gripping the drumsticks too tightly and she got really bad tendonitis. She was getting Cortisone shots for about 2-3 years and finally, about the end of '07, she had to quit the band. She went back to the Bay Area and went to college. The Donnas tried to get another drummer to replace her but I don't know if they ever found anyone that truly fit well enough to stay for long. Since then, I haven't heard a thing from them............ where did they go? I don't know.
How about a story on Wire and their first album, “Pink Flag,” released in 1977. For a band who was part of the first wave of UK ‘77 punk like The Sex Pistols, Clash, et al., their album completely threw the punk rock “rules” out the window and created the beginnings of post-punk and was a huge influence on bands like Minutemen, Mission of Burma and early 1980’s American hardcore thrash.
Veruca Salt has always held a special place for me....... primarily because my legal surname is in face "Salt" my wife used to pick on me in high school and say the girl with the coolest name. It kinda made me fall for her even back then. We didn't get together till our late 20's but yeah, cool ass band with a cool ass name. Love them.

@@johndef5075 You definitely hear it on the song Paradise Circus ft. Massive Attack. Spine chilling at best.
Loudest show I ever saw was Mazzy Star and the Jesus and Mary Chain back when Hope was dating the dude from JAMC. Outdoor show at the Masquerade in Atlanta. Holy shit was it loud.
Eight arms was a sonic masterpiece and the engineering was like gold. im still kicking myself for missing their last reunion tour. hate myself for that one
haha, seether! I am 90's chick. Im going to tell you right now, my 14 yr old self thought they were the raddest chicks around!
Totally radical! Gnarley dude!
This guy 👆🏼is a fraud
Great band! One of the very few from the 90s that I didn't grow tired of.
These videos make me feel old and young again at the same time!!
If you want a better explanation, google the Henry Rollins / Veruca Salt interview.
One of my favorite bands as a teen. I got to see Nina on her solo tour and it was great.
Nina and Louise are my idols
You must have low standards
Saw them at all 3 LA gigs. The Amoeba Hollywood in store was sick! The Roxy and El Rey!
I saw them play in Seattle back in '97 (or was it '98) at the Key Arena when they opened for Bush. Epic show!
@@lesyeuxsansvisage1157 could've swore that's what it wss called. Not too far from the Space Needle. Maybe I'm off on the name after all these years but I definitely remember the concert.
I dunno but I’ve been crushing on them since the 90’s
Their album Ghost Notes is amazing. Especially the song "Prince of Wales".
AMAZING!
Interesting description but really accurate, especially with the Blow It Out Your Ass...EP.
Shutterbug is my favorite song on eight arms.
8 Arms is still their masterpiece.. Though a local Chicago band, when they did their '15 come back, it was rare to hear the new stuff on any Chicago radio station, even WXRT. They played a couple songs for like 2 months, and that was it. Still a big fan here though!
I only like about 6 songs from 8 arms, but American Thighs and Ghost Notes i listen to start to finish on repeat
they played a free show in vegas 11-12 years ago, one of the best concerts i have ever seen
I got a chance to see the original line-up in Philly when they got back together. They were absolutely amazing! Ghost Notes is a deep album. It makes me happy and sad at the same time.
8 arms to hold you is a great album.
It's not even very good
@@docsavage8640 right?! That's what he said - it's great! :D
Volcano Girls is an absolute banger!
A feel good story. Veruca Salt is one of a kind! 😍
No doubt about this group of people having a unique influence on the industry beyond the 90's. There's something magical about a band that has such beautiful chemistry with each other and their fans, producers that transcends beyond description, ty for delving into some of their history @Rock and Roll True Stories
They're fantastic, I still listen to shutterbug often
I was in my late teens and early 20s through the 90s. The decade just friggin rocked!
I don't know what brought this band to mind, but I've been wondering about them for months. Thx for this.
Jez, hearing the timeline on their story just makes me realize how freaking old I am. I was out of high school when they first hit the local Alt Rock station.
I LOVE GHOST NOTES! It's my FAVORITE Veruca Salt record!
They still have it!
I agree, i thinks its their overall best album
It's a really great record, but it's second for me.
It’s a really excellent record.
Yes, another one of my requests! You're the best!
That first album American Thighs is really good.
One of my all time favorite bands. Thanks for uploading
I love Veruca Salt!! Thanks for this video! Speaking of Mazzy Star, could you do a video over them, too?
Probably the band with mr. boy toy.
I met Louise at a party thrown by Urge Overkill. Didnt really talk much just "hi...how are you"... that was it. She seemed nice.
They could do a reunion show & play "Can't
Fight The Geezer "
G'old
😂🤣😂
🤣😂
And bring Geezer Butler up on stage?
LOL!! :)
Veruca salt and babes in toyland are still my favorite.
Lol
"Wolf" is the best song about a dead cat you will ever hear. Fight me.
do a video on helium!, such an underrated alt band
No thanks.
Still love them. VS4 is very underrated
I loved American Thighs, forgot about them when I gave away my cassette tapes
“All dressed up” really helped me during a dark time in my life.
Louise Post is who the Foo Fighters song “Everlong” was written about.
I didn't realize that the masters were lost, that sucks so hard. :(
You should do a video about Liz Phair's Exile In Guyville!
She went to my high school!!!!
@@straymusic you must be from money then 😉
@@larrydavid6852 no not really but i was fortunate enough to live in a nice neighborhood.
You're familiar with the area i take it?
@@straymusic no Sir, I had just been under the impression that she came from a pretty affluent background.
Lovely Liz..... still one of my biggest crushes and one of the sexiest women that ever lived!
I’ve seen VS many times as the opening act. Nina had this cool part where her guitar would have an effect whirling around and she’d kill it setting up for a dynamic shift for her vocal to come in again. Clever.
I liked VS more than Nirvana.
Let's go full circle and do a story on the band who took their name from Salt's most popular song...Seether.
Yes please! They're from my country!
Um hi was in a major movie in 99. With thie hit Volcano Girls. Just saying cuz more than a one hit wonder in my eyes. But we are people who comment on RUclips. Meanwhile they are still collecting on Jawbreaker movie gig.
@@BATMAN7666 Get your eyes checked
@@wilcross50 sure as long as you check your attitude. Bro have you looked at it out there above your screen? There are FAR MORE WORSE THINGS TO BE PISSED OFF AT! Obviously you dislike the band. Not asking you to agree with me on something you clearly did watch or listen to. You keep it up keyboard cowboy people like you are whats wrong with today. Eh karma will get to you eventually...................Wait maybe it has since you bully on social media 🤔🎤
@@BATMAN7666 Haha!
So we still dont know exactly what happened, only that it is private. Which is fine. I loved their music and always hoped they would reunite. I had a great time at their shows!
Ive watched that live Seether clip 100 times at least. Such a great simple rock song.
You should do a video on Patty Schemel leaving Hole during the recording of Celebrity Skin because the producer replaced her parts with a session drummer. Funny enough it's the same thing that happened with the Foo Fighters during The Colour and the Shape which was recorded around the same time.
Except Foos didn't use a sessions drummer
@@daveg4236 Obviously. The point is in both scenarios the drummer for the band was determined not good enough when they were recording and their parts were scrapped. And in both scenarios the drummer ended up leaving the band because of this.
Strangely enough Patty Schemel often plays with the “Louise & Nina of Veruca Salt” band nowadays in Los Angeles.
@@OriginalGrasshopper Ha actually didn't know that. Small world such as Patty knowing Louise's ex(Dave Grohl) years before they hooked up.
I would have left Hole because of fear about Courtney having me killed. Go to Justiceforkurt.com
Cool video! And thanks for the info! I never knew much about this band. It certainly is a feel-good story at the end for a bunch of very talented people!
I like the band, and i think their two first albuns are really good. Loved the vid!
Museum of Broken Relationships was a really solid comeback too.
Could you do whatever happened to the band the Donnas. There is not much on them but was really good
I saw The Donnas in Nov '04 in Denver and I was pinned up against the front of the stage.
'Eight Arms to Hold You' is a masterpiece.
It's not even very good
Still obsessed with this band!
Want more Veruca Salt look into the band Skating Polly
The lead singer Louise has a great sounding voice and she's cute♡
Underrated band. I think this is the chick that sang on Everlong by foo fighters.
Grohl wrote that song about Louise Post. And she's singing backup vocals in it.
Undercover it's their best album, really emotional and cathartic. Great band and great story.
I always loved "Volcano Girls", great song.
Nina Gordon looks so fine in the thumbnail. 💖
i love this band! even the albums without Nina are not bad but together they are way better.
Love them.
