I'll be honest, spending hours and effort into making art just for some fake internet likes is not the way to go. You keep drawing because you want to improve for yourself, if all you care about is wanting to get hundreds of thousands of likes then that's just bad mentality to keep making art. Don't treat social media likes as the only reason to make art, treat it like a diary that keep track of your drawing progress instead. There are plenty of artists who made some good looking art that started off with barely any likes, but they still keep posting and eventually they gathered tons of audience.

Honestly? I just feel bad for the fake beginner artist. Clearly they are very skilled but don't receive much attention nor support which is common for intermediate artists. For the people who genuinely don't understand why this person didn't just show their real art from the beginning, the answer is they probably did (on a dif account) but felt disheartened as people usually only interact with crazy good professional artists or beginner ones, that's just how the internet works.
Edit: I think some people are misunderstanding my point a little bit. In no way am I justifying what this person has done! It is clearly the wrong thing to do but I also don't think this behaviour warrants a bunch of hate, hopefully it'll be a learning point for the artist:)

I feel bad for them too, but really pretending to be something you're not isn't cool- on top of that making other people feel bad while doing it. Someone else said it's like faking illnesses to get attention and I 100% agree.
I think this person only thought about themselves when they decided to do this which is.. Sad, to say the least. But it's not like a terrible crime. But all for some attention is crazy on the real
Edit: forgot to add but I'm not hating, just giving my opinion. Moral of the story, you're never going to get big and popular by pretending.

I mean, I do think it's possible to make that kind of improvement quickly because I did something similar. I never really continued drawing after my 6th one because it took so much work each time and it wore me down quickly but I also had people not believe at first that I was a total beginner because I had a similar jump between my very first drawing and my 2nd drawing, my first had pretty much no real shading/lighting, the lineart was awful and messy, the pose was nonexistent just a stiff board with no hands and arms glued to the side of her body, for the 2nd I basically spent 3 full days and nights redrawing parts of it over and over until I figured out how to make everything work to make a dynamic anatomically correct pose with decent lighting/shadows and good line weight, and none of my 6 drawings look like they were made by the same person or similar skill levels.

I feel for them, but no one is owed a social media following, no matter what level of skill they have. This clearly came from a place of a bruised ego, not a genuine experiment. What they did isn’t the end of the world, and I don’t think they should be bullied off the internet completely, but making people who supported what they thought was a beginner artist feel like they’d been duped or deceived is really shitty and probably going to bring more scrutiny on actual beginner artists who improve at a good pace now.

    • @loftikuss
      @loftikuss 4 месяца назад +11

It's not shitty. because it just proves what false snakes they all are and proves the person's point. you should ilke the ART and not pity someone not actually caring for the art but only for their status. it reminds me of the artists here who try to generate clout pushing "disabled artist does stream" and it turns out they have depression. wow. in that case all atists I know could use these terms. and people fall for it and pity them. not even caring for the art. that are fake people. similar to "i write you a comment if you write me a comment" trade without caring or really have intention to write because of the art.
people who just pity someone because of their status or life situation, heritage, orientation or sickness in the art section don't deserve anything good. it's like false friends. so these people weren't harmed at all. they actually harmed with their behavior.

I honestly doubt they hurt their anything. Likely the opposite even in worst case scenario. They were sitting at 50 followers on their main account. If that level of art skill hadn't garnered them more followers, it's safe to say they were never realistically getting more without some serious social media marketing tricks.
Even negative publicity like this is going to give them thousands of legitimate followers, as there will always be those who sympathize and those who simply don't care and want to see some cool art.
If they continue posting art, in a few years there won't be anyone left who remembers or cares about the 2 week period where they faked being a beginner. Especially as they came clean and apologized.
That's the sad reality of social media. If you're a complete unknown and nobody cares about you, then there's basically zero downside to negative exposure outside of mean comments and DM's. In terms of your social media presence, you will without a doubt see massive growth and retention, and actually get a chance to establish yourself.

I can sort of understand why people would do this, because I feel like it's fair to say most artists aren't gonna pop off on social media just by the quality of their work; this is probably why people keep trying devious strategies like this one.
The problem is that the hyper-sensationalisation of art like this just feeds the kind of environment that lead to the problem in the first place. The nature of social media is to demand this kind of grandstanding, but by folding under the pressure you are pretty much committing yourself and everyone else to an ever-escalating arms race of increasingly duplicitous and grandiose gestures like the one seen here/

@@kashsy-jc7624 not to be one of those annoying "erm.. actually" people who give unsolicited advice, but art isn't a talent most of the time, it's a skill. Yeah, there probably are a lot of artists with innate creativity and ability to put what's in their mind on paper, but most good artists on the internet had to learn to get their skill level.
I'd reccomend to keep drawing. Obviously don't force it otherwise you probably won't improve much, but if you practice for even just 20 minutes a day you can improve pretty quickly.
I'd also reccomend realistic goal setting. For me personally I always set goals way above my skill level when I was a beginner and it made art frustrating. To the point where I stopped enjoying it for months.

A lot of people use attention seeking as an insult, but if you're an artist on social media, then, of course, you would be seeking attention. That's how it works. No one posts art on the internet just because. They do it to have other people see it.
It's sad that they had to go so far to get engagement. I'm not mad at them. I'm mad at how desperate it's gotten to get noticed on the internet as an artist.

We have a lot of social friction as well, lately, over how information reaches far enough that anyone competitive is now competing with... what was it, 8 billion people? While you might have been the best artist you know in your area, or nearly the best but aspiring to be the best, if you suddenly add every other great artist in the world, you suddenly find yourself small and insignificant, which can make some people very... manipulative.

drawing for attention is a slippery slope.
it could put you in a mental state that isn't healthy. if you gain traction, it's not going to last forever. when you eventually lose traction or never gain any, it could deter you.
many years ago i did exactly this.
i posted my art back when DA was ehh... kinda okay. before i started posting some of my art, i was just doing it because i wanted to, to see how far i could go. and when i started posting art and started having expectations to gain interaction and seeing as i had exactly none for a long time (maybe 2-3 years?), i threw the towel in for quite some time.
it was effecting me as an artist because it made me think that i just wasn't good enough and should just stop wasting my time. it stunted my progress to becoming better for years.
i have only come back to it recently because i had managed to remind myself of why i did it in the first place. and even then it's not as fun or doesn't feel as accomplishing as it was back then, but it is getting better.
i'm not here to condemn the idea entirely, but to give a warning. the side effects of feeling how i did are why this video exists. (tho im not nearly as good as the artist featured lol)

is easy the why behind of this. When you start drawing and uploading the ugly phase of learning everyone suport you, giving you words of encouragement and motivation to keep working. Then when you reach a dead sea or plato, when you are not good enogh to be a pro but not a complete beginer no one comments your art. At the end, the beginer artist improves and no need to be more suport. I feel like that sometimes.

I have a real story: I followed a then-hobbyist furry artist on Twitter. He didn't have a lot of skills or followers, but his characters looked nice. After about a year or two, in the month of October 2020, his art skills started to improve. At first, the improvements seemed to be nice and gradual and made sense. He was starting to learn more advanced skills and features in his digital software, but his style was still very similar. But then, something strange happened. Over the course of 4 weeks, every next piece he made, his skill jumped to a whole new level, up until it was indistinguishable from professional art from an artist who trained for years. It blew my mind. It only took four weeks for him to learn all of the anatomy, gesture, form, perspective, backgrounds, proportions, shading, color theory, etc. and with hindsight, I think he was learning and practicing these things long before his sudden improvement, even if only traditionally without showing any of that to the public. He could just actually have learned and improved that fast, but it takes insane talent and dedication to improve that fast, and I dont know how that's possible. Now, he is a famous NSFW artist with tens of thousands of followers.
Did he fake his improvement? I don't know. But did this affect me mentally? Yes. It made me believe in some artists having a better brain or more talent, and was one of the things that made me stop using Twitter regularly due to the way it's built.

Though I wouldn't really call myself a "beginner artist", I still do struggle with poses, shading, and lighting! I won't deny that sometimes a person art style can change fast. Only just this year have I been getting out of the phase of drawing literal stickmen like what I've been doing for more than half of my life, and if you look at my drawing from March/May of this year you can tell theres been an improvement
But being able to alter your entire art style in the span of 14 days? Hell no. My slow ass couldn't even produce more than one drawing in that time frame and they completely changed their art in such a short time frame
Only silver lining is that at least they apologized and what seems like their actual art style seems to very good! And I fully agree with their statement about their art getting barely any likes. I post my art on my alt on youtube and tiktok account. I can spend hours, even days on an art piece and still go unnoticed. I can make a piece I am sincerely happy with, but have ZERO attention brought to it, meanwhile that one questionable requested piece be one of my most liked pieces.
I still like art for the sake of doing art, but it does feel like I'm isolated within the entire art community, I feel like a failure for my art not improving fast enough, I feel like I shouldn't even bother experimenting with different styles simply because the effort is not seen. It's an unhealthy mindset to have as an artist, but it's there, and it doesn't help when certain websites and formats don't really bring attention to these lesser known artists, and it just makes me sad, not just for myself but also for other artists.

If Candi had just used her skills to help other artists, she would have found the attention and popularity she wanted in the first place. Clearly there's a market for content which caters to beginner artists. Imagine how many views she could get making tutorials about the fundamentals like anatomy and shading, and demonstrating how those skills are used in her art! She could also use her platform to shout out underrated artists who deserve more appreciation, the same thing she wanted for herself.

The same issue like this has been an on-going thing in the miniature painting community for decades now. You'll see posts like "My first/second attempt at painting X" and they show you a mini that's clearly from someone who has been in the hobby for at least 5-6 months, considering all the advanced techniques they've used.

I’m glad this is being talked about at all. Cause it always gave me really weird vibes, it never interested me in the slightest. I feel it sets a bad example, too. It makes artists look super petty. Like, “ooo but see, I’m actually super good, I totally had you fooled!” I dunno what’s to gain from it besides wanting attention and validation. It’s like pretending you’re helpless when you’re actually fully capable. Obviously it’s not the worst thing an artist can do, but it’s still super weird.

Crazy how TikTok became the app for brainrot and nonsense, like in 2020 when I first heard of the app it was just people doing dances, memes and stuff, it wasn't this way, how did we go from dancing, challenges, memes shortform content to now with all this stuff? What started the change? I'm so confused.

    • @n8pls543

Because it isn't the platform, but the people. As you add more people, you end up with people who feel the need to be louder, more manipulative, etc, for attention -- which is why I'm not surprised to see fake beginners on TikTok, because there are also fake beginners on RUclips. Then this only gets worse if there is money to be made, because then people will actively be competing to be the bigger, more terrible person.

The fact that the "new art" is literally just. Retracing of the card's in project sekai 😭😭😭😭 being in the fandom its very obvious that they just traced the art of official cards 😭

And that can be seen as she's still in the beginning stage, hence the tracing cause she doesn't know how to draw on her own. Ngl but the 'new art'is not at intermediate or pro level. hence a beginner, just not the absolute one.

I actually would’ve believed this. When I was younger, like elementary-early middle school age, I was drawing constantly. In just one drawing I would massively improve and my mom was more and more impressed with each drawing. I’m still not the best with anatomy, but I can draw from reference like nobody’s business and without a reference I’m not half bad. I don’t know if i got that good in just a week, but maybe a month to go from this person’s beginner level to their current level (if I drew every day). My drawings before looked really similar to these slightly improved ones.

We all know that real begginer artists wont say: "Ow man im so bad at this" **procceeds to draw either a bad thing or peak art**
Real begginer artists are like: "Nah bro my art is good now stfu" **Proceeds to draw a stickmen**
False begginer artists just try to get attention while bring pick me's.
Real begginer artists will not listen to your advice and rather just do their thing.

It's similar to the smurfs in the gaming community. They say they are terrible at the game, infiltrate the beginner ranks and find pleasure in destroying all of them, all the while, they are NOT bad and are actually an alternate account from the highest ranks! They wanted to have some easy fun and praise by farming the newbies. All it does is discourage people form wanting to play if even the newbie ranks are flooded with s rank ops.😓

i wouldn't consider myself beginner, but i am definitely somewhat underrated, and seeing these people fake being beginners just ruins my soul, it makes me kinda mad that these fakers get more attention for something they never put passion or interest to (faking the art), for example, candie- when they faked the beginner art, it wasn't beginner, it was rushed, and not looked over. it's not funny, nor good, its bad for some beginners

Tbh, I don't draw as often as I would like to because I was discouraged by how BAD my work was, when I really just couldn't figure out how to draw what I was envisioning in my head in the first place. I'm still struggling to figure things out, but can draw basic humanoid forms. If I had seen this kind of improvement when I was doubting the fact that art is slow to improve, that would have just solidified my thoughts and I might have never opened a drawing app again because I would be thinking that I was just so bad at it.

I've been drawing in some way shape or form for 15 years and posting art online for roughly 7. Only recently have I reached 1000 followers on tumblr, which for me was a crazy feat. I get the feeling of being ignored when you spend countless time on a project, but taking away spotlight from actual beginner artists by claiming yourself as a beginner, even as a social experiment, just isn't the way to go.

This is incredibly horrible, especially the fact that others believed it until the very end, imagine if some of those people who believed they were a beginner artist was a beginner themselves and started drawing alongside them to see their progress they will make together.
Only for them to get int insane levels of skill in four days, imagine that ACTUAL beginner artist, how horrible they will had felt.
    This is disheartening

18:00 No, This entire situation was not a misunderstanding. They did this entirely for attention all because their main art account wasn't getting enough likes. You cannot tell me they didn't plan this when they blatantly lied to their audience for several days and with false hopes that they can improve that quickly too. They lied about, got caught, and now they're suffering the consequences. Plain and simple.

As much as I feel for them, I feel like they also need to understand and accept that they will not get as much followers as they hope as an intermediate artist. I am I guess a intermediate artist, so I do understand why they would do that, but I've also just accepted that my art isn't going to get as much attention as big artists. Hell, one of my most famous shorts is a low effort shitpost, but I know that's just how it be. A good way to try and combat this is just accepting the amount of followers you have. You may have 2 followers, but that's still 2 people who take the time out of their day to see you. It may not be as impressive as say 20k, but you also have to realize that these are people that are following you (well, unless you get a bot) and 20 followers could be 20 people in a room, and that's a lot
