      I'll be honest, spending hours and effort into making art just for some fake internet likes is not the way to go. You keep drawing because you want to improve for yourself, if all you care about is wanting to get hundreds of thousands of likes then that's just bad mentality to keep making art. Don't treat social media likes as the only reason to make art, treat it like a diary that keep track of your drawing progress instead. There are plenty of artists who made some good looking art that started off with barely any likes, but they still keep posting and eventually they gathered tons of audience.

    Honestly? I just feel bad for the fake beginner artist. Clearly they are very skilled but don't receive much attention nor support which is common for intermediate artists. For the people who genuinely don't understand why this person didn't just show their real art from the beginning, the answer is they probably did (on a dif account) but felt disheartened as people usually only interact with crazy good professional artists or beginner ones, that's just how the internet works.
    Edit: I think some people are misunderstanding my point a little bit. In no way am I justifying what this person has done! It is clearly the wrong thing to do but I also don't think this behaviour warrants a bunch of hate, hopefully it'll be a learning point for the artist:)

      I feel bad for them too, but really pretending to be something you're not isn't cool- on top of that making other people feel bad while doing it. Someone else said it's like faking illnesses to get attention and I 100% agree.
      I think this person only thought about themselves when they decided to do this which is.. Sad, to say the least. But it's not like a terrible crime. But all for some attention is crazy on the real
      Edit: forgot to add but I'm not hating, just giving my opinion. Moral of the story, you're never going to get big and popular by pretending.

      @@cosmic_ghostbruhwell you see, they were probably young and felt their effort deserves more attention, I get that, becoming mediocre at drawing (the "good enough for commisions" type) takes A LOT of effort and time, like years out of your life, even worse if you have no mentor to guide you, so I can see why would someone pull a stunt like this, but along the way to the mastery you just learn that you dont care about the audience, but rather for the craft itself and as your skill improves and gets to "actualy good" levels people would start paying a bit more attention

    • @Lazurikittie
      @Lazurikittie Месяц назад +12

      I mean, I do think it's possible to make that kind of improvement quickly because I did something similar. I never really continued drawing after my 6th one because it took so much work each time and it wore me down quickly but I also had people not believe at first that I was a total beginner because I had a similar jump between my very first drawing and my 2nd drawing, my first had pretty much no real shading/lighting, the lineart was awful and messy, the pose was nonexistent just a stiff board with no hands and arms glued to the side of her body, for the 2nd I basically spent 3 full days and nights redrawing parts of it over and over until I figured out how to make everything work to make a dynamic anatomically correct pose with decent lighting/shadows and good line weight, and none of my 6 drawings look like they were made by the same person or similar skill levels.

    The 170 followers on twitter I got is what I worked for 2 years to get. and I get jealous when people joined for less than a month, yet they got 4K followers and they're just a shitposting account
    I don't blame her for doing that, I'd quit an account a LOT of times because I am like any other people on the social media, I want attention. but I dont get the attention I want no matter how much I draw

    I feel for them, but no one is owed a social media following, no matter what level of skill they have. This clearly came from a place of a bruised ego, not a genuine experiment. What they did isn’t the end of the world, and I don’t think they should be bullied off the internet completely, but making people who supported what they thought was a beginner artist feel like they’d been duped or deceived is really shitty and probably going to bring more scrutiny on actual beginner artists who improve at a good pace now.

    • @glasperle77
      @glasperle77 Месяц назад +5

      It's not shitty. because it just proves what false snakes they all are and proves the person's point. you should ilke the ART and not pity someone not actually caring for the art but only for their status. it reminds me of the artists here who try to generate clout pushing "disabled artist does stream" and it turns out they have depression. wow. in that case all atists I know could use these terms. and people fall for it and pity them. not even caring for the art. that are fake people. similar to "i write you a comment if you write me a comment" trade without caring or really have intention to write because of the art.
      people who just pity someone because of their status or life situation, heritage, orientation or sickness in the art section don't deserve anything good. it's like false friends. so these people weren't harmed at all. they actually harmed with their behavior.

      @Archangel591 Месяц назад +14

      I honestly doubt they hurt their anything. Likely the opposite even in worst case scenario. They were sitting at 50 followers on their main account. If that level of art skill hadn't garnered them more followers, it's safe to say they were never realistically getting more without some serious social media marketing tricks.
      Even negative publicity like this is going to give them thousands of legitimate followers, as there will always be those who sympathize and those who simply don't care and want to see some cool art.
      If they continue posting art, in a few years there won't be anyone left who remembers or cares about the 2 week period where they faked being a beginner. Especially as they came clean and apologized.
      That's the sad reality of social media. If you're a complete unknown and nobody cares about you, then there's basically zero downside to negative exposure outside of mean comments and DM's. In terms of your social media presence, you will without a doubt see massive growth and retention, and actually get a chance to establish yourself.

    I can sort of understand why people would do this, because I feel like it's fair to say most artists aren't gonna pop off on social media just by the quality of their work; this is probably why people keep trying devious strategies like this one.
    The problem is that the hyper-sensationalisation of art like this just feeds the kind of environment that lead to the problem in the first place. The nature of social media is to demand this kind of grandstanding, but by folding under the pressure you are pretty much committing yourself and everyone else to an ever-escalating arms race of increasingly duplicitous and grandiose gestures like the one seen here/

      I'd reccomend to keep drawing. Obviously don't force it otherwise you probably won't improve much, but if you practice for even just 20 minutes a day you can improve pretty quickly.
      I'd also reccomend realistic goal setting. For me personally I always set goals way above my skill level when I was a beginner and it made art frustrating. To the point where I stopped enjoying it for months.

    I have a real story: I followed a then-hobbyist furry artist on Twitter. He didn't have a lot of skills or followers, but his characters looked nice. After about a year or two, in the month of October 2020, his art skills started to improve. At first, the improvements seemed to be nice and gradual and made sense. He was starting to learn more advanced skills and features in his digital software, but his style was still very similar. But then, something strange happened. Over the course of 4 weeks, every next piece he made, his skill jumped to a whole new level, up until it was indistinguishable from professional art from an artist who trained for years. It blew my mind. It only took four weeks for him to learn all of the anatomy, gesture, form, perspective, backgrounds, proportions, shading, color theory, etc. and with hindsight, I think he was learning and practicing these things long before his sudden improvement, even if only traditionally without showing any of that to the public. He could just actually have learned and improved that fast, but it takes insane talent and dedication to improve that fast, and I dont know how that's possible. Now, he is a famous NSFW artist with tens of thousands of followers.
    Did he fake his improvement? I don't know. But did this affect me mentally? Yes. It made me believe in some artists having a better brain or more talent, and was one of the things that made me stop using Twitter regularly due to the way it's built.

    18:00 No, This entire situation was not a misunderstanding. They did this entirely for attention all because their main art account wasn't getting enough likes. You cannot tell me they didn't plan this when they blatantly lied to their audience for several days and with false hopes that they can improve that quickly too. They lied about, got caught, and now they're suffering the consequences. Plain and simple.

    This kinda shit is why I stay away from social media now. My relationship with my art has become so much healthier, since numbers weren't a factor anymore. It's sad, that some artists feel like they have to lie to make their art seem worthwhile, when it already is, no matter how many eyes see it.

      But there's people like me who wants to make money with art and, in order to do it, I need more likes and followers.
      Sucks more to be an intermidiate artist rather than being a beginner as I can see.

    Social media is just making every community more fake and toxic. Even just four years ago things weren’t that bad (not to say they were perfect. The 2000s and early 2010s are infamous for minorities getting hated on online for just existing) but recently I feel like not even a small and niche community can’t go by a day without drama :/ I also feel like people are becoming less accepting cause of people like Andrew Tate but that doesn’t relate to the video

  • @Artiimoo

    when you decide to share art on social media, you have to do so with the understanding that your account is not likely to blow up and be "big". it has taken those larger accounts a lot of time and a lot of dedication to get where they are, it doesn't just happen overnight. for every medium to big account you have 50 small ones who go under the radar, found by chance. it sucks, it really does, but that's just what happens in the state of the community right now. you have to learn to be content just sharing to share. if you constantly post in hopes of being that big artist you admire, you're always going to feel unfulfilled and angry when it doesn't happen. learning to be content with your account where it is at any time is a HUGE part of being on social media that a lot of people ignore because they see shiny accounts "making it" and focus too much on the numbers. if you take off, that's absolutely amazing and i hope your account grows.
    please, though, don't do what candie did. do i think she should be chased off the web? no. does she need a timeout to reflect on her actions? absolutely. i hope she can come back and be an artist with integrity and be content sharing with the people who want to see her work, and maybe it'll grow from there. these bait accounts ain't it, and it's no surprised as many people were as mad as they were. this wasn't the right way to go about this at all. i hope this served as a lesson for candie. and she should call it what it is, which was a ruse to garner attention to be "big", not a social experiment. i hope she realizes how it wasn't worth garnering the attention she got in this manner. it's going to follow her for a very long time, so she's got work to do if she decides to come back.

    If anything, this person is what a lot, if not, ALL people want as they’re doing something they’re passionate about. They make an account in the first place. They want their pieces to be seen. They made an account to share their art 😭-
    I’m not even one to say “but they did…” no. It is what it is. People are acting like they ran over a group of children 💀. They’re young and were upset that they got no attention from art they worked hard on. I understand. I don’t even think it was to JUST get attention just cuz they wanted it.
    They “claimed” it was a “social experiment”. I’m choosing to believe they’re telling the truth. They just wanted to see what happened if they posted ‘beginner art’ instead of their more intermediate skilled art.
    And it’s sad that people do only give attention towards more…I’m gonna be honest, ROUGH looking pieces, than people who are a little more skilled. It’s usually people who are at the bottom or at the top. The people in the middle get no attention.
    It’s just like the eyes of a middleman…or being seen as “Mediocre” I suppose.
    I see what they did and I get it. I wouldn’t do the same, but that’s just because Im just not one to do that. Thats just me. The experiment worked out in a way that is both surprising and sad. But that’s just how to internet works.
    also the “beginner artists” that were looking up to them..honestly shouldn’t be taking it to heart at all. EVERYONE is different. Some people learn things in 2-3 months, others might be 2-3 YEARS. We all have different minds and time to learn. ❤

What about the other beginner artists feeling? When they see the drastic improvement for a week, beginner artists will probably start questioning themselves-and we who support them feel betrayed. I've been drawing in some way shape or form for 15 years and posting art online for roughly 7. Only recently have I reached 1000 followers on tumblr, which for me was a crazy feat. I get the feeling of being ignored when you spend countless time on a project, but taking away spotlight from actual beginner artists by claiming yourself as a beginner, even as a social experiment, just isn't the way to go.

    Positivite criticism
    Encouragement
    Sharing tips and tricks
    Should all be attributes in all art community sections. A safe place to grow is what beginners need most and even non beginners like me need that to cause all artists are still growing and honing their craft.
